I have created one table and one stored procedure for to insert/delete/update the data in that table.
So,I was trying to move the scripts from one database to another by Generating Scripts options in SQL Server.
Generating Scripts:
Object Explorer --> Databases --> Database --> Tasks --> Generate Scripts
The generated script output is in a order of stored procedure first and then table.
REQUIREMENT: My stored procedure is dependent on table. So, I need the table script first and then stored procedure.
Note: I can generate two separate scripts for table and stored procedure, But in a just curiosity to know, Is there any way, can we re order the Generate Scripts output in SQL Server.
Is there a way in SQL server that can generate stored procedures for select, insert, update, delete on certain tables?

I need to generate some variables , like var1, var2, var3 ....
It's determined by how many records in my database.
I want to write a for() to do this. But how?
For example
for(int i=0; i<datatable.rows.count; i++){ String vari = new String;}
This is not a right way in C#, does anyone know how to?
Thanks!!!
I generate SQL scripts on a regular basis for my database and it's objects.
Is it possible to run a job in SQL or make windows do this automatically on a periodic basis?
Anyone done this before?
Hi,
How can I generate rows automatically?
The number of rows is generated according to an input from the user!

Hi, all,
I have a question about adding a unique key column to an existing table.
what i trying to do is that: I have already created a table, now i wanna add a ID column to this table, and generate the values for ID column from 1 to the existing row number. How can I get this done?
Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance.
Hello!
I'll try to explain what I'd like to do. On my SQL Server 2005, SSAS contains a mining model (In fact a cluster one).
I'd like to show a detailed diagram build from this model on a web site. This diagram (and this is why I need automation) would depend on the user who's consulting it.
For example, a firm A will see the number of its customers in each cluster, and this information will be different for another firm B
So, I thought about several steps to perform:
1) Feed the model with the data for each firm
2) Build a Visio diagram from the previous data using the DM addins for Visio 2007
3) Generate HTML using the Visio export wizard
4) Publish HTML
And (important) this should be done automatically.
I made some experiments:
Step 1 is easy to perform with SSIS
Step 3 is also easy to do with the Visio SDK (using, among others, the exportAsHtml control) and Step 4 is trivial
I failed to perform stage 2, even with the SDK, since creating a diagram from a DM template requires the user to fill a wizard. By code, I'm able to create a document from a DM template, Drop a DM Stencil but when the wizard appears I'm unable to get a handle on it. And even if I was, I dunno if it would be a "clean" way of doing.
So my question is: first of all: isn't there an easier way to generate HTML from Mining Models automatically? And if my approach to this problem is the best (or the "least bad"), how to generate datamining Visio diagrams from code automatically?
last couple of months we're getting automatically generate jobs under sql server job event. causing occupy the resources.
in daily basis i've to remove mannualy. i've do disable the job no of times from properties, but it generates again.

This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.
Thank you in advance for any help on this matter
Using SQL 2005, SP2. All of a sudden, whenever I create any stored procedures in the master database, they get created as system stored procedures. Doesn't matter what I name them, and what they do.
For example, even this simple little guy:
CREATE PROCEDURE BOB
AS
PRINT 'BOB'
GO
Gets created as a system stored procedure.
Any ideas what would cause that and/or how to fix it?
Thanks,
Jason

I am using SQL 2005, and I am wondering if there is a way to set up a role such that when a new stored procedure is created, the role will automatically be given "execute" permission on that stored procedure.
We have our own dedicated server, but I also administer a database on a shared server (on DiscountASP.net), and they have it set up that way -- when a new stored procedure is created, the user set up by DiscountASP automatically has EXECUTE permission on that procedure.
I keep trying to duplicate this on our dedicated server, but to no avail. I would like to make it so a specific role always has execute permission on every new stored procedure, without having to explicitly add permissions to the role using the properties of the stored procedure.
Is this possible? It seems like it should be, but I can't figure out how. (I'm primarily a programmer, not a DBA, so apologies if this is a dumb question.)

I need to develop some crystal reports on some .NET ado datasets. This is easy to do if I actually had data to work with. It is mucheaser creating reports with you have data. Therefore, I would like to run the stored procedure that the .NET adodataset is built on and generate an XML file. I could run the projectand try to figure out where the developers are making the call to thestored procedure and insert a line to writetoxmlfile. I would rathernot have to mess with their code.Is there a way working with SQL Server (either query analyzer orenterprise manager, dts, or whatever) that I can generate an xml file.I see that I can run a stored procedure and get an xml style return inquery analyzer, but I don't know how to save that as an actual file. Thanks for the help.Tony
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I search for and print all stored procedure names in a particular database? I can use the following query to search and print out all table names in a database. Seems like I'm stealing all the threads here, : But I need to learn :) I have a StoredProcedure that needs to return values that other StoredProcedures return.Rather than have my DataAccess layer access the DB multiple times, I would like to call One stored Procedure, and have that stored procedure call the others to get the information I need. I think this way would be more efficient than accessing the DB multiple times. One of my SP is:SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, S.Name AS 'StatusName', S.ItemDetailStatusID, S.InProgress as 'StatusInProgress', S.Color AS 'StatusColor',T.[Name] AS 'TypeName', T.Prefix, T.Name AS 'ItemDetailTypeName', T.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails I INNER JOIN Item.ItemDetailStatus S ON I.ItemDetailStatusID = S.ItemDetailStatusID INNER JOIN [Item].ItemDetailTypes T ON I.ItemDetailTypeID = T.ItemDetailTypeID However, I already have StoredProcedures that return the exact same data from the ItemDetailStatus table and ItemDetailTypes table.Would it be better to do it above, and have more code to change when a new column/field is added, or more checks, or do something like:(This is not propper SQL) SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailStatusInfo I.ItemDetailStatusID, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailTypeInfo I.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails IOr something like that... Any thoughts?

I have MSSQL 2005. On earlier versions of MSSQL saving a stored procedure wasn't a confusing action. However, every time I try to save my completed stored procedure (parsed successfully ) I'm prompted to save it as a query on the hard drive.
How do I cause the 'Save' action to add the new stored procedure to my database's list of stored procedures?
Thanks!
I need creating a store procedure which generates custom IDs for each asset. I am programming for Fixed Assets in VB6 with SQL Server 2005. For example, when a new Asset is added ,I need to auto generate the ID based on existing IDs. New ID should not exist in tblAssets table.
Table Name : tblAssets
Fields : AssetID > Int,Primary Key,this is internal ID (identity seed)
AssetExtID >nvarchar(50),this is external ID, need to generate/user entered.
Below is the example of data in tblAssets :
AssetID AssetExtID ProjectID ItemName Qty UOM UnitCost .....
1 PROSP-00001 PROSPERITY SPLIT-AC 2 NOS $200
2 PROSP-00002 PROSPERITY LAPTOP 1 NOS $500
3 UNIII-00001 UNION III LAPTOP 5 NOS $400
4 UNIII-00002 UNION III RECEIVER 2 NOS $312
The AssetExtID depends on the ProjectID which is in tblProjects.
I will take care of the first 5 characters to generate. But the number part I need to generate by checking existing data. The AssetExtID should not be duplicate. Its unique for each asset.
We need to create a pdf file from SQL server preferably from a stored procedure. Application will call the stored procedure and it should generate pdf. From my research it appears it can be done using various external tools with licensing/costs. But is it possible to do this within sql server database without additional costs? I read that this can be done by SSRS in SQL server but not sure if it is a good solution and if it is additional licensing..

We recently upgraded to SQL Server 2005. We had several stored procedures in the master database and, rather than completely rewriting a lot of code, we just recreated these stored procedures in the new master database.
For some reason, some of these stored procedures are getting stored as "System Stored Procedures" rather than just as "Stored Procedures". Queries to sys.Objects and sys.Procedures shows that these procs are being saved with the is_ms_shipped field set to 1, even though they obviously were not shipped with the product.
I can't update the sys.Objects or sys.Procedures views in 2005.
What effect will this flag (is_ms_shipped = 1) have on my stored procedures?
Can I move these out of "System Stored Procedures" and into "Stored Procedures"?
Thanks!
Hello friends......How are you ? I want to ask you all that how can I do the following ?
I want to now that how many ways are there to do this ?
How can I call one or more stored procedures into perticular one Stored Proc ? in MS SQL Server 2000/05.
Hello
I'm start to work with SSIS.
We have a lot (many hundreds) of old (SQL Server2000) procedures on SQL 2005.
Most of the Stored Procedures ends with the following commands:
SET @SQLSTRING = 'SELECT * INTO ' + @OutputTableName + ' FROM #RESULTTABLE'
EXEC @RETVAL = sp_executeSQL @SQLSTRING
How can I use SSIS to move the complete #RESULTTABLE to Excel or to a Flat File? (e.g. as a *.csv -File)
I found a way but I think i'ts only a workaround:
1. Write the #Resulttable to DB (changed Prozedure)
2. create data flow task (ole DB Source - Data Conversion - Excel Destination)
Does anyone know a better way to transfer the #RESULTTABLE to Excel or Flat file?
Thanks for an early Answer

There is SCPTXFR.EXE script that has an option to create a script for all DB objects in one file or create separate files for each DB object - one for tables, one for SP-s, one for triggers, etc.
Is there a way to generate:
1. Separate script for each stored procedure (not from Enterprise Manager but automatically from command line or otherwise);
2. Script all DB objects excluding stored procedures in one file.
Thank you.
Hi,
Do you know how to write stored procedures inside another stored procedure in MS SQL.
Create procedure spMyProc inputData varchar(50)
AS
----- some logical
procedure spMyProc inputInsideData varchar(10)
AS
--- some logical
--- go
-------
I am writing a set of store procedures (around 30), most of them require the same basic logic to get an ID, I was thinking to add this logic into an stored procedure.
The question is: Would calling an stored procedure from within an stored procedure affect performance? I mean, would it need to create a separate db connection? am I better off copying and pasting the logic into all the store procedures (in terms of performance)?
Thanks in advance
John
