Hi I need for my hosting company to send my db that I have convert from SQL EXR.2005 to 2000 and send them a backup file.
I have back up it (task> backup )and sand it over they cant open (restore) it and I do not understand why

I must be missing something, and its starting to fusterate me. Bear with me here.
I created a site for a ...client I guess you'd call it, and made this really slick newletter generator thing. The people from the web enter in their info, and if they want, they sign up for a newsletter -- all tied into a db, 1 table, 4 stored procedures, REALLY simple stuff. They insisted I used a certain webhost which, on paper, looks like it will fit the bill. I'm starting to question that.
On top of the newsletter thing, I created an aspnetdb for the "administration" side of it for her to log into and send out the newsletter so total, there's 2 dbs in the app_data folder. Locally, it works GREAT and on my test box (iis6) that is running 2k5 express. The webhost runs sql2k in (what I consider) a bastardized way. Can't use the management studio, can't use anything except a really weak web-based interface which adds to my fusteration.
Anyway, my questions : 1, is there a way to make the mdf files work with sql2k without having to re-do the whole thing and 2, if I have to redo it, does anyone have an example connection string that might help out?
Can I use database that i develop in SQL Server 2005 in hosting company that has SQL server 2000 installed?

I developed my first webpage using c#, VS2005 and SQL Express and it works fine in my Computer.
Tried to upload it to a hosting company, they have SQL 2005 Server.
I can surf through the pages but nothing that has to do with the database works.
Is there anything I should have done before uploading the site?

It is an ASP.Net driven site with membership roles and all the good stuff.
the latest theory is that I need to change the provider config in the web.config file from AspNetSqlProvider
to something else. Most of my complications and frustrations come from GoDaddy and no access to the
shared server (understandibly).

I have a problem that I haven't been able to solve it. At the end I am confused I need some clarifications.
Background:
I am using full back up recovery plan. I am getting daily full back up and every 15 minutes log_back up. I created these back ups by using Database Maintenance option. However I have been trying to restore the log_back up, but I couldn't achieve it.
Question1- When I take log back up do I have to activate "Remove inactive entries from transaction log" or not??
Info: When the log back up was done it deletes the latest 4th one. I have done this without no reason. Should I keep like that or should I allow the files being deleted right away after transaction logs backed up?
Question2- I cannot restore the log files I don't know why? I have followed every description that I read. After I restored full back up with NOREOCVERY the database hangs out says "loading" but it doesn't do anything and when I try to restore it doesn't accept the latest log back up file and it urges me to put newer file than I have but ıt is only latest log back up that I have Why does this happen?
I am so confused. Please help me

I had to transfer my database from one server to another. Both are running SQL 2000. I backed the database up and moved it to the new server however when I try to do a restore I get the following message:
The media set for database "xxx' has 2 family members but only 1 are provided. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
I did some searching and found a couple of posts that mentioned something about the back up including 2 files.
My problem is that the machine I backed this up from crashed when it was shut down and would not reboot so all of the data and the original database do not exist. Is there any hope of restoring this database. It is pretty critical.

Hi i am backing up a database, copying it to a shared folder on a different computer on same LAN, then restoring it on the different computer.
it used to work fine untill last few weeks.
I have also tried robocopy to copy the files....doesnt works.
the backup is 90GB.
It reports, insufficient resources.
I have rebooted the different computer too.
Is it possible to uninstall SQL 2005 and reinstall SQL 2000 if I need to? I would obviously have a backup copy of the database(s) from the SQL 2000 version. If so, is this a major ordeal to perform?

I need to back up a production database on one server and then copy it to a test server wherel it will be restored. The problem is that I don't know where to move the file to on the production server before I restore it. Is there a special folder I need to copy the file to? I see a folder named ProgramFilesMicrosoft SQL Server but beyond that I have no idea where to copy the file so that it can be restored?

hi, I would like to know the correct reaction for a crash in both senarios.
First senario,
I made a full back up at 6 am , then scheduled sql server to make transaction log back up every 2 hours (8,10,12,2 pm,4,6,8) . If I have a crash at 12:30. How would I resotre the data in the first senario....Can I restore the full back up done at 6 am then restore the last transaction log backup ( which is 12 Noon ) . I am not sure If I need to resotre the whole tran from 6 am till the time it was crashed.
Second senario,
I made a full back up at 6 am, then scheduled sql server to make Incremental backup every 2 hours (8,10,12,2 pm,4,6,8) . If I have a crash at 3:00 pm. How would I resotre the data in the second senario. ....Do I restore the full backup at 6 am then restore each incremental backup backwords ( 2,12,10,8)

I'm formatting my mirrored drives and installing a third drive forraid 5 to add more space. I have backup exec. Can anyone tell me thebest way to backup SQL so I can be sure it will restore properly? Currently it resides on a server. The problem is that on the server they are using sql server 2005. If I backup using 2005 and then try and restore this database using SQL server 2000 or 2005 on the laptop, I get an error message. "Too many backup devices specified for backup or restore; only 64 are allowed. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
What can I do to restore the database? Must it be backed up with SQL server 2000 and then restored with SQL Server 2005?

My server crashed but luckily I was not able to get back my files with help of recovery software.
Now, all I have from the database are just sql server database primary data .mdf and sql server databaseTransaction Log Files .ldf. I need to restore these data back to sql server.

I have some C# (.NET 2.0) code that performs back-ups and also can perform restores of back-up files. I would like to validate the integrity of a file prior to initiating a restore operation. In other words, I want to know, before I try to restore, if the file is just a random file (picture, work doc, zipped backup, etc.) or if it is a valid SQL backup file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But when I restore database from "C:" or local drive it alows to do so.

I have a SQL .bak generated by our existing hosting package at 1and1.com, I want to import that SQL .bak to our new hosting package at ixwebhosting.com.
ixwebhosting.com don't have a import feature in their control panel.
I have to maintain the SQL at ixwebhosting.com using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express since they don't have that feature in their cp. I don't see any import features in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express either.

Hello,I'm trying to create a simple back up in the SQL Maintenance Plan that willmake a single back up copy of all database every night at 10 pm. I'd likethe previous nights file to be overwritten, so there will be only a singleback up file for each database (tape back up runs every night, so each daysback up will be saved on tape).Every night the maintenance plan makes a back up of all the databases to anew file with a datetime stamp, meaning the previous nights file stillexists. Even when I check "Remove files older than 22 hours" the previousnights file still exists. I have a company table and a address table. I have created a linked table with two foreign keys from the company table and the address table respectively.
This set up allows me to apply more than one address per company which is fine. My problem is that I need a way to prevent a company from entering exactly the same address twice.
In the address table i have the following fields:
AddressKey - PK
CompanyKey - FK
Address 1 - 3
Town
County
Country
PostCode
In the company table I have the following fields.
CompanyKey - PK
FirstName
Secondname
And finally in the link table I have the following:
CompanyKey - FK
AddressKey - FK.
Now, if i entered the following into the address table Assuming that company id of 1 was already entered into the company table.
AddressKey - 1, CompanyKey = 1, Address1 = 11 Address2= Taylor
I need a way of preventing this from happening.
AddressKey - 2, CompanyKey = 1, Address1 = 11 Address2= Taylor
As can be seen the PK - FK values are unique and are correct for referential integrity, but the actual address is the same.
Any help we be mostly appreciated.

Vendor A may provide financial data, vendor b provides litigation data, vendor c provides ratings data. Our current structure has databases for each vendor with its own company table which basically makes all this data disconnected. Of course each vendor has its own proprietary company id to make records unique.
All of the data is based on companies so the grain of data would be at a company level. I would like to be able to link this information together by creating a dimensional model that has a single company table (DimCompany) and has facts populated based on the type of data we receive. Would this be the right sequence of events?
1. My initial load (historical) would have to look at all these data sources and create one company record in my DimCompany table. This table would then link to all other fact tables to provide a single view of company info. I would imagine this would have to be a fuzzy lookup since one company will be in all sources.
2. On subsequent loads (incremental) I would probably have to do a lookup of companies in the dimension via the proprietary code and add if the company wasn't there.
Any advice on tackling this issue would be greatly appreciated especially if SSIS was used in the process.
I'm developing an application that needs to handle several companies data one at a time.
I have a database called ROOT with the common tables like companies, users, etc. and all the stored procedures that I need.
Then I have a unique database per company containing all their info.
How can I apply the stored procedures that I have on database ROOT to the tables on each company's databases ?
The TSQL USE command do not accept variables.

I have a database that allows a client to have multiple addresses, could be a home, business, vacation, etc... I'm trying to deside if I should put the Company Name and Title fileds in the tblClientAddresses table or keep it with the tblClient table. We do mailings to clients and if the mail is going to a home address the company and title should be excluded. If I put them in the tblClients table I really have no way of knowing if we are mailing to a home or a company. If i put the company and title with the address it makes sence that this would solve the issue.
Looking for any thoughts or suggestions?
