SQL Server 2005 For Two Applications With Different Collation Setting On Same Platform?

Nov 13, 2007

Hi ,

We want to install 2 applications that run on SQL server 2005 but the requirement of database installation are different Collation setting ( One require Dictionary order, case-insensitive, for use with 1252 Character Set and other require Dictionary order, case-sensitive, for use with the 437 (US English) Character set).
So the question here could I install both two applications successfully on same platform ? and if yes how?

Thanks and regards,

Reporting Services :: Background Patterns And Exporting To PDF

May 16, 2012

I have a report with a chart that utilizes both colors and background patterns to distinguish various pieces of data.

The background patterns work great (they are very clear and provide excellent contrast) when viewed in the report viewer or printed straight from the report viewer.

However, when I export to PDF, the background patterns become compressed and small, almost to the point of being too small to distinguish that there is a pattern at all. The result ends up being what appears to be just a different shade of the background color. This is particularly a problem when you then print the PDF on paper, since hatching patterns are similar to how printers create different shades in the first place.

I am somewhat suspicious that this might have to do with resolution settings for PDF exports. If I could lower the resolution, perhaps the patterns would not become so tight and compressed. Below are examples of what I'm describing:

Background Color Differences Between Visual Studio && Reporting Services

Apr 18, 2007

I'm trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services, but I've found that there's a behaviour difference Visual Studio and Reporting Services with the Matrix control for the subtotals.

For the background color for the "textbox" on the cells, I've used the folowing expression:

=Iif(Fields!ID__vs_YAGO.Value < 1, "Red"

,Iif(Fields!ID__vs_YAGO.Value < 1.02, "Yellow"

,"GreenYellow"))

The individual cells alternate colors, based on the value in the cell. In Visual Studio, the Subtotal cells also alternate colors (which is correct). But when the report is deployed to Reporting Services, The Subtotal cells have a transparent background. (Incorrect).

If I set the same expression into the background setting for the Subtotal cells, the expression is evaluated once for the entire row and the entire row has the same color (different Subtotal lines will alternate). This is the same in both Visual Studio and Reporting Services.

I'm using SP2, 2005 (32 bit for Reporting Services). To ensure full compatibility, I've editted / deployed the report all on the same machine.

Does anyone know of this problem and how to resolve it?

Additional: In testing the various output formats, it seems to be a bug in the HTML rendering engine. PDF amd TIFF work fine. I believe Excel export uses either part of the HTML rendering engine or pieces of the same code base.

P.S. I'm detecting other reporting differences between Visual Studio and Reporting Services, such as how "null key records" (from Analysis Services) are handled in groups. Is there a compatibility list published somewhere?

Reporting Services :: Background Color Formatting In Matrix Control

Oct 20, 2015

I have a matrix report:

My Expression in the data fields inside design mode is:

IIF(Fields!Row_num.Value mod 2 ,"White","LightGrey")

I am using a Dense rank Function at the dataset level in order to group id column wise. So Fields!Row_num.Value  comes from that set.

Earlier it was BLANK values: Please see below for reference.

Tried IsNull on SQL Server already and does not work because there are no NULLs in the data I am retrieving. The empty cells happen when the matrix creates the crosstab report - where there is no data for a column. Everything else works well except the BLANK values being not colored as you see in the screen shot, im using ISNOTHING function to achieve those 0's if NULLS inside the report. But though we have a value inside the cell coming from report it does not colour the entire group.

My requirement is coloring the entire column group irrespective of the NULLs' or Blanks.

Have also tries several functions, but of no use. I am missing with a tiny thing I guess which I am unable to figure out.

Other Functions Tried:

=IIF(VAL(ReportItems!ROWCOLOR.Value) MOD 2,"WHITE","LightGrey")
=iif(RunningValue(Fields!City.Value,CountDistinct,Nothing) Mod 2, "LIGHTBLUE", "SILVER")
=iif(RunningValue(Fields!DQLogDateTime.Value,CountDistinct, Nothing) MOD 2, "LightGrey","White")

Reporting Services :: Change Background Color Of Columns Depending On Previous Value

Sep 22, 2015

I have a simple report that looks like this:

                January    February   March      April
Sales        1050         800          750         1100
Units Sold  50            40            41           60

I want to change the background color to yellow if the value is less than the previous month. For example for the sales row, February sales is less than January and March sales is less than February so I would want the values (800 and 750) to have a background color of yellow. The columns is grouped by month.I've tried experimenting with the Previous function but I run into the following error message: The BackgroundColor expression for the text box has a scope parameter that is not valid for an aggregate function.  The scope parameter must be set to a string constant that is equal to either the name of a containing group, the name of a containing data region, or the name of a dataset.

How To Setup User Security For Reporting Services Used Inside ASP.NET Web Applications?

Dec 13, 2007

I'm working on a project that requires integration of SQL Server Reporting Services with ASP.NET 3.0 Web Applications.
I'm working on Visual Studio 2005, with SQL Server 2005 on an XP development workstation.
SQL Server, Reporting Services, and IIS are all running on my local machine.

I'm trying to prototype two approaches, one using the Report Viewer control, and the second using the Reporting Services Web Service. I have the two examples setup in projects in Visual Studio.
The sample reports and data sources work fine in Visual Studio. I can access the report using the Reporting Services URL like this: http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fBTT_BDS_DEV%2fCustomers; Report works fine.

My problem is, that when I try and access the report using the Report Viewer inside an ASP.NET page or from the Web Serivce hooked up inside an ASP.NET Page I get a security errors. I have chosen Windows Security for the Datasource, and ASP.NET pages. In the case of the Web Service, I'm passing in my local domain user name as the credentials.

I'm prototyping this on my local workstation, but I need to design this to be used on our corporate Intranet using Windows Security.

My questions are:

1. How do I need to setup users on my local development workstation to get this to work.
2. How should I plan for user security for enterprise deployment, i.e. using Reporting Services inside a large ASP.NET Web Application?
3. Can anybody give me some links to some good developer type working examples of doing this. I've looked but have not found the answers
to the "how do I setup users" part of the question specifcally related to ASP.NET apps?

Below is the code example of the Web Services example app I'm working with which came out of a book I have on
Reporting Services. This example compiles and seems like it would work but doesn't. Also following are a few of the
error messages I get when experimenting with the example apps:

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 Background Color Format By Expression When Exporting To Excel

Mar 28, 2013

We are using SSRS 2012. We have a report that conditionally formats a background color for some cells. The report renders properly in a browser and in Excel 2003 format. In Excel format all cells after the first one that meets the condition are highlighted, even if only one cell should.

The sample expression that triggers this condition looks like this:
=IIF(Fields!VIOL_NOTE.Value="Internal","Green","No Color")

All cells after the first one that meets the condition Fields!VIOL_NOTE.Value="Internal" have a green background.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2014 Report Manager - Customize Standard Title And Change Background Colors?

Where can I make those minimal changes in SSRS 2014.

Reporting Services :: Exporting SSRS Reports To PDF With Background Pattern - Pattern Not Visible?

I tried creating one simple bar chart report in SSRS, with background fill with pattern "UpwardDiagonal", the stripes on the column when viewed insider report viewer control is quite prominently visible, whereas when exporting the same report to PDF the lines are very thin and dense and hence makes it very difficult to differentiate between one column with pattern inside and one without. I have even tried various other pattern like "LightUpwardDiagonal" and "WideUpwardDiagonal" but all have same result when exported to PDF.why?

Setting Up Report Services : Please Help

Mar 24, 2008

Hi, I am using SQL 2005 and I have just installed Report services.

I set this up once before and when I finished I could navigate to a URL that took me to a screen
that showed the different Folders where I had stored different types of reports. From this screen I could also
manage the access of users to which reports they could access. Almost like a report management interface I guess you could say.

Now, with this install, when I navigate to http://localhost/reportserver I only get a screen as follows.

localhost/ReportServer - /

Sunday, March 23, 2008 5:23 AM <dir> Report Project1

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.1399.00

Can anyone help me with this ?

Setting Up Reporting Services

Dec 3, 2007

I have a general question regarding setup. We have a small to medium size company and our reports will need to be accessed over the web/remotely. It seems to me that it would not be a good idea to have reporting services, the database, etc., all on the same server. Correct?

Is it more secure to have a web server running IIS installed with reporting services and then a separate box with the database? If so, is web server in the DMZ and the database server on the local domain or standalone? Also, does having the reporting services server separated in this way from the database create any access issues in terms of problems with performing certain types of reporting functions, etc? It seems like I read something about that a short time ago.

Would anyone care to comment on this setup issue/considerations?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Setting Default Dates In Reporting Services

Mar 26, 2008

Thought I'd help some folks with rs and dates..

here is some scalar valued functions:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_date_only] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, GetDate()), 0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(ms, -3, dateadd (m,datediff(m,0,
dateadd(m,1,@date)),0))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(m,datediff(m,0, @date),0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN

END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_noon](@date datetime)

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS

END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_end] (@weekday tinyint,
@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS

END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, -1, datediff(d,0,@today))
END

Then create a Table-Valued Function like so:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udfCommonDates] (@date datetime)
RETURNS @t table (week_start datetime,
week_end datetime,
lastweek_start datetime,
lastweek_end datetime,
month_start datetime,
month_end datetime,

yesterday_end datetime,
today_start datetime,
today_end datetime,
thisweek_monday_start datetime,
thisweek_monday_end datetime,
year_start datetime,
year_end datetime,
tomorrow_noon datetime,
today_noon datetime,
date_only datetime)
BEGIN
INSERT @t
SELECT
dbo.get_week_start ( @date ) AS week_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( @date ) AS week_end,
dbo.get_week_start ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_end,
dbo.get_month_start( @date ) AS month_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( @date ) AS month_end,
dbo.get_month_start ( DATEADD(m,-1, @date) ) AS lastmonth_start,

dbo.get_tomorrow_noon(@date) AS TomorrowNoon,
dbo.get_today_noon(@date) AS TodayNoon,
dbo.get_date_only(@date) AS DateOnly
RETURN
END

Now the RS folks might be thinking but how does this help me as I need a dataset and a dataset can only be based on a Stored Procedure or a direct table. No problem create the following stored procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspCommonDates] AS
begin
set datefirst 1
declare @date datetime
set @date = getdate()
select * from dbo.udfCommonDates(@date)
end

Now you've got a stored procedure to use as a dataset...Now in reporting services add a new dataset:

Now go to the report parameters section of the report:

Now pick that dataset dsFunctions (or whatever you called it) and then pick any of the value fields from the scalar functions such as:

Now when you run the report it uses the scalars:

If you have questions feel free to ask :).

Hope this helps someone

Reporting Services :: Setting Up A Visual Studio

Jun 29, 2015

Windows 7.We are preparing to introduce some of our folks to designing reports in SQL Server Reporting Service (SSrS).  I want to do some preliminary testing on my laptop.  I believe we should use Visual Studio (free version), the Business Intelligence tools for VS,  and a local instance of SQL Server.  I want to be able to install a sample database in the local instance of SQL Server and be able to look at the sample database's table structure.

To set up a local test environment, should I use VS, Business Intelligence tools for VS, and a local instance of SQL Server?  Or is there some other set of tools I should use? What version of VS should I use (I saw VS Community 2015 RC is available)?Where might I get a robust sample database from which I can create SSrS Reports to test? What tool can I use to look at a local instance of SQL Server?  These "express" versions don't seem to come with SQL Server Management Studio.

Setting Visibility Attribute In Reporting Services

Oct 4, 2007

I have two textboxes. Based on the value in one textbox I want to show the value in other one or not. So

If Textbox1 has null value (from db) then Textbox2 shoululd be blank.

So I go to the properties of Textbox2 and write this code in the visibility tab for the expression radio button.
Suppose Textbox2 holds Fields!NewValAmt.Value from db

=IIf(Fields!NewValAmt.Value is nothing , False, True).

But this code never sets the visibility to true even if there is non null value for that field.

Any help will be appreciated.

Deploying Reports And Setting Up Reporting Services On A Clustered Server

Mar 19, 2007

Hi

I have two questions:

1)

I need to deploy reports to a server in Spain, which I do not have direct access to. Is there any way that I can simply deploy the reports to a server here, that I have access to, and then copy the reports to the server in Spain??? Or is there any other way? I cannot expect the customers in Spain to be able to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 themselves to deploy reports (they do not even have access to the tool).

2)

How do I set up reporting services on a clustered server? I have configured reporting services on both clusters, but somehow I cannot initialize both of them. Only on will be initialized at a time. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanx :-)

Integration Services :: Cannot See SSIS Package In Drop Down List When Setting Up Job

May 26, 2015

I have an SSIS package created on SQL Server 2005. I have moved this to a SQL Server 2008 R2 server and amended the package on this new server to point at the correct databases.

The package runs manually. However, I cannot see the package when trying to schedule a job. The dropdown list does not contain the package.

I imported the package by right clicking on MSDB and selecting the package from the file system. The package then appears under this folder (SQL Server Integration Services). I then create the SQL job but cannot see the package I just created.

Integration Services :: Setting Delay Validation Property To True In SSIS?

May 19, 2015

I have a main package calling another package through the Execute Package task.

The main package is passing the Job Instance id as a parameter to the other package.

When i execute the Execute Package task the concerned package is not showing any execution progress. However when i set the Delay validation Property to True , I saw that the package executed instantly and the desired result was obtained.

I am not sure how the Delay Validation property worked for the cause , as in my package I had no scenario of a temp table being called or any other temporary variables being used which needed a Delay Validation.

Reporting Services :: Setting Data From Custom Library Not Working In SSRS

Sep 22, 2015

I have a SSRS report that uses a custom library. The custom library returns a string values, and I have tested this with a windows application. In the SSRS report. I have set the expression value for a text box as  =CodeReportingLibrary.CodeReportingFunctions.GetImage(1232)

However, when i preview the report the text box value shows as #ERROR. I checked the error list and I get a warning message : Warning 1 [rsRuntime ErrorIn Expression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘Textbox5.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Attempt by security transparent method 'CodeReportingLibrary.CodeReportingFunctions.GetReferenceImage(Int32)' to access security critical method 'Microsoft. TeamFoundation. Client. TfsTeamProjectCollection..ctor(System.Uri)' failed.  Assembly 'CodeReportingLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' is partially trusted, which causes the CLR to make it entirely security transparent regardless of any transparency annotations in the assembly itself.  In order to access security critical code, this assembly must be fully trusted.

I have updated the rssrvpolicy.config in ReportServer folder, to include my custom dll.

<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="1"
PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Name="CoDeMagSample"
Description="CoDe Magazine Sample. ">

Reporting Services :: Available Parameter Values And Setting Defaults On Report Server

Jun 3, 2015

I have a report with a subscription enabled and the default values that are selected for the report frequently change.  I have our report server locked down so that the users can't change the defaults, but I now want to empower them to maintain this on their own.  Here is my dilemma.  When you have the available parameters set up to pull from a query, the defaults on the report server have to be keyed in manually, which is not an option.  The only way to get a check box there, is to explicitly specify the available values.I need my available values to be database driven and I need to be able to select my defaults on the report server using check boxes.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 - MultiValue Parameter Throws Error On Setting Up Default Value

Aug 3, 2015

I have a multi value  parameter called "Location" and this depends on another multi valued  parameter value. The default value for the parameter "Location" comes from the another another multi valued  parameter. Now say when the default value is set for the parameter Location like the below:

The Location parameter data set has values from the Query and default values has been set as shown below:

=Iif(array.IndexOf(Parameters!Program.Value,"A")>-1,nothing,"N/A")

I get an error on preview saying that . The Default Expression for the report parameter "Location" contains error:

Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Array'.
