Hi all
i am beginner with sql server 2005
and i need good books for good beginning
i found many books but i dont know which book i chose ...
what is the books you advice me to read for stability begnning ??
thank you
I am trying to determine a couple of books that will help me understand SQL Server 2005 from a few of perspectives:
Optimizing databases, specifically from SQL 2000 - I have a recommended book Pro SQL Server 2005 Database Design and Optimization
Developing SQL Server 2005 based applications using VIsual Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0 - I have been unable to narrow down to a specific book here. I learn best by example, so I was hoping for a book that basically goes through implementing a "real world" project from scratch to finish. I am going to be using the full-blown enterprise edition of SQL 2005, not the Express Edition; but a book that uses the Express Edition trumps any other book, I would be open to it. Any suggestions on such a book?
Understanding T-SQL and Stored Procedures from a SQL Server 2005 perspective -- Any suggestions? A book that spells out the differences from SQL 2000 would be an added advantage.
Windows 2003 Server x64, SP1SQL Server 2005 x64, SP2Installed Books Online Feb 2007. Error displayed when launching Books Online: 'Microsoft Document Explorer cannot be shown because the specified help collection 'ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9' is invalid.'
Work-around detailed in KB here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913392/en-us) does not work.
Un-installing Feb 2007 BOL and installing original makes no difference.
I am trying to install sql server 2005 books online but I am failing and I am getting this message "This installation pakage could not be opened.Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"
am I doing anything wrong or has the version of books online changed? Do I have to install anything else before installing it? or does my operating system not support it?
I downloaded and tried to install the file "SqlServer2K5_BOL_May2007.msi" and got a message: "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." Please advise.
Can some one give me detail instruction to installing the SQL Server 2005 Express Books Online. I am new to SQL Server and want to install the MS training material.
I am not new to the SQL Server world, but am somewhat new to the SQL Server 2005 world. I am just getting into the reporting tool. By just messing around for about an hour or so, I was able to get what I wanted somewhat. Basically, I'd like to get up to speed on the reporting side of things fairly quickly. So I am looking at some books, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on any.
Here is a few that caught my eye:
-MS SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by Brian Larson -MS SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services for Dummies -Professional SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by Paul Turley -The Rational Guide to SQL Server Reporting Services
I am thinking the 1st two would probably be my best bet, but wanted to get you folks suggestions.
Let me know as soon as you can as I am planning on going to the book store tonight or this weekend.
Hi All - I have come across the need to use a cube in AS 2005 for an application. Unfortunately this will be the first time writting an ASP.Net application which uses one. I was wondering if any of you had any good books or references that I could look at to get an idea of how I should approach this issue. Thanks in advance.
Well, after having a crash course on backups, tlogs and some other good stuff, I pretty much made the decision that I need to get some good books to further help me progress in my database admin path.
Right now, we are running SQL 2000 SP4, but we are planning on upgrading to 2005. With that, and the fact I am pretty new to databases, what books are recommended?
I want to get a book that will help me:
-better administration -write SQL query code as well as understand it (what is difference between SQL programming and SQL query (such as on the sqlteam bookstore)
I feel that my career path is going to start heading down a Database path, so anything that you recommend with that is great as well.
I can't thank everyone enough for the help and input here. Everyone has been great!
Can anyone recommend books on SQL Server 7.0 Data Transformation Services? Looking to find info on importing data from a Sybase server to SQL server (need good examples). Thanks.
Can anyone suggest good books on exclusively sql server development..Not for the beginners but at intermediate to advanced level.. Books which gives good understanding on Stored Procedures, Triggers, Cursors, Functions...
There are between 10 and 15 books in the set. I recall an index, developer's book, administrator's book, and two T-SQL reference books. I don't remember what the other books were. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I had these books at my disposal at my last place of employment and I'm trying to get the same books here. If this sounds familiar to anyone, can you point me in the right direction? Thanks
Hi, I am new in this dbforums. i working on SQL SERVER REPLICATION. I need some books related to only SQL SERVER REPLICATION. If any body konwn then reply me
are a mess, reminiscent of the structurless "goto" programming of days past. One of you brainiacs need to erect a "real" getting started section, with procedural steps on how a first time user can successfully download, install, and use SQL Server Express. Not all of us are working in corporations where the guy in the next cubicle can answer questions for newbies.
I will try once again, nicely, to ask a question about installing SQL Server Express Edition SP2 onto a Windows Vista machine. That drama will take place in another post.
I just downloaded the SQL Server Express w/ Advanced Services and did not see a specific Books On Line for this edition. I know there is a new SQL Server 2005 BOL - I downloaded this as well, and will use to complement the old SQL Server Express BOL.
I was looking for specific information about the differences between SQL Server Express and the Advanced Services edition. I think the Microsoft sites are pretty vague - why is the advanced services edition better for multiuser applications?
My uncle runs a small networking company and has extra licenses for Windows 2003 Server as well as SQL Server 2000. Since I just graduated from college and have started working as a database programmer (for a different company) I'd like to setup a small server at home to learn more about SQL (as well as networking, but SQL is my primary concern). I know I can setup SQL Server 2000 on my main PC, but I'd still like to set everything up in a server environment.
So, what I'm wondering is if any books (or web sites?) exist that walk you through setting up Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000. I've actually set these up before (it's not very complicated) but I'm not sure if I did it the "correct" way.
Ideally if any books exist on O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf that would be even better.
I am an Oracle DBA with over 7 yrs of experience.I am new to sql server 2000 and am given the responsibility of sql server 2000 production databases in a few weeks.I already have the sql server 2000 DBA survival guide.
I would like to know if there are any good books out there for
Hi,I have been trying to download the latest update to SQL Server BOL forquite some time without any success. I have tried downloading around3-4 times. I would like to know what book is considered the best when it comes to optimizing SQL Server configurations and troubleshooting SQL Server problems encountered in the error log.

I have to buy two books for the MIS dept for sql server 2000. Which one do you recommend? We are still on sql 7.0 and migrating to 2000 soon. All developers have good experience with sql server 7.0.
Want something that gives you recommendation about better practices for performance issues for writing SPs.
I read all the reviews on amazon and b&N . It's confusing to choose only two.
