Is there a way to create a Batch file that will run an Update Statement and schedule it to run?I've used bcp to extract data to a txt file before, but i'm not sure if an Update can be performed.I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition so i don't have Server Agent available.
I want to update two tables in one page. So I created two FormView bound on two SqlDataSource controls, and I create a Update button on the bottom of page. And I writen some codes as below: btnUpate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e){ sqlDataSource1.Update(); sqlDateSource2.Update();} But, the records haven't updated. In SqlDataSource2_Updating() function, I found all the parameters is null. So, how to modify my code to do it.
I am having trouble getting a job step to execute an executable file. One of the options for a job step is to enter an operating system command. I have tried entering the following operating system command to execute a file:
'start c:myfile.exe'
For some reason this doesn't work. How can I get SQL Server to execute an executable file?
I have created a linked server that connects to "mpp" file, and it connects and opens successfuly returning a list of tables that exists in the linked server to the mpp file.
But the problem i am facing now that whne i write a select statment to get data from the tables in this linked server
select * from linktompp.testmpp.dbo.tasks
such that linktompp is the linked server name testmpp is the catalog name tasks is the table name i need to select data from
it shows an error that says
"Could not obtain a required interface from OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Project.OleDB.11.0'."

We have one table where we store all documents in one of the column called "Doc" with varbinary(max) data type.
We want to download those documents from sql table to windows explorer and i wrote BCP in sql 2005. And things were fine.
The format file I used there looks like this,
9.0 1 1 SQLBINARY 0 0 "" 1 Doc ""
Now we are in 2014 and when I try the same code with same format file, it hangs in the middle. So I changed the file to 12.0 instead of 9.0 but still not working.
I would like to create a backup file in SQP-Server Express and restor this backup-file in SQL-Server 2000. I am looking for the command that produces the .bak-file.
I am trying to create several Excel sheets using SQL 2000 views like so:
Select * INTO [Excel 8.0;Database="C:spreadSheetsaNew.xls"] FROM [aView].
When I try and execute this in my app I get the following - Specified owner name 'Excel 8.0;Database=c:spreadSheetsaNew.xls' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.
If I use the above Select statement with an OLEDB connection it works.
I am using Imports System.Data.SqlClient, instantiating a new SQlConnection object, opening the connection, etc..

I have just downloaded an evaluation version of SQL server from the microsoft website and installed it in my PC.
Now I want to create file data source.
I followed these steps: -From the control panel, ODBC datasource admin -click the DSN tab -click the add button -select the sql server driver, enter the data source file name -enter "local" in the server text box as I installed the sql server in my standalone PC. -click next After that I had this error. "Connection failed. SQL server does not exist or access denied."
But The sql server service is running.
Can anyone help me where did my configuration go wrong?? Thanks...

I have a table with 201 columns . I am importing 200 columns from a file using DFT. I want update the 201th column with the fileId of the file that just imported. I am storing the fileId of the file in varFileID .
How do I go back and update the 201th column ( column name sfileId) with the varFileID value?

I have a table dbo.Sales that contains all sales records. There is a column in that table called ItemNumber that I'd like to match with ItemNumber in a flat file and update the ItemCost based on the ItemCost column in the flat file.
So while there will be many sales records for each ItemNumber, I need to loop through and update the ItemCost in that sales record based on the corresponding ItemCost in the flat file. Does this make sense? I really need this for court and I can't figure out how to do it. I took a SQL course about 7 years ago but have forgotten everything.

I have used the copy database wizard, but I realized I had forgotten to shrink the transaction log file. So I canceled the wizard. My database, detached by the wizard, has now disappeared. The mdf file is still there, but when I try to attach it manually I get the "create file encountered operating system error 5 while attempting to open the physical file..." error.
Ok I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age,sex,race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.

Most job runs have no errors but the error file is created as a zero byte file anyway. If there are no error records I don't want the error file created. How might I accomplish this?
I have a record in an Excel format (Excel 2010) and I would like to bulk import that into SQL Server 2008 and also while importing, SQL Server will automatically create a new table based on the header fields or row of the source file.
I am not sure if SQL Server 2008 has this capabilities.
its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job) Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package. its working fine...
Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

Fields = Active, inactiveDate Active Field is of bit datatype mean conatins 1 or 0, 1 means the user is active, but when i change the active field to 0, and make the user inactive i want the date to be populated automatically to inactiveDate field when active field is changed to 0.
I have one table named as "Order", and other table as "Shipment". Now, I want to check if one column name "Status" in the "Örder" table has been changed (when it becomes status = 7) then I need to insert records in "Shipment" table.
Order Table: OID===Order_Product===Order_Description===Order_Status
But it inserts the records into Shipment Table every time the status field or any other field in the Order Table is changed. What I want is that, "When Status Column in Order Table is Updated to 7, then insert record in Shipment Table".
Hi - I know my way around VS but I am just exploring "advanced" SQL Server 2005 and have run into a challenge which I think a trigger could solve, but I am not sure and also don't know how to set that up. So any help or links to tutorials are highly appreciated. Here is the challenge: I have a table with a number of fields, among them RequestID (bigint) and Booktime (datetime). What I would like to happen is whenever someone writes a value different from NULL into RequestID, Booktime gets set to the current timestamp. When RequestID gets set to NULL, Booktime gets set to NULL. Is there a way to do this with a trigger (or an otherwise elegant way)? Thanks in advance for ANY help or ideas. Oliver
