: Fatal Exception C0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Feb 7, 2002

Hi guys

Recently, I noticed a monthly-run stored procedure (sp_insertAnnualRenewalLetterPrintedStatus) has been causing the aformentioned error, and it ended up creating all these .dmp files...
This stored proc was created 10 months ago, and the error only started happenin' for the last 3-4 months! Also, for approx. every one out of 10 times the stored proc ran OK!

Enclosed here is a sample content at the beginning of these .dmp files...
Anyone can shed some light? THANKS IN ADVANCE

SImon

Hi,

I want to share an experience

Here are our server specs:
Intel Xeon 3.40Ghz [Duo]
4 Gb Memory
Raid 1 120Gb HDD
Windows 2000 Server
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition

we tweaked the configuration in sp_configure

changed the following parameters
sp_configure 'max server memory (MB)',3000
go
reconfigure with override
go
--old value: 2002

sp_configure 'min server memory (MB)', 2500
go
reconfigure with override
go
--old value: 2048

sp_configure 'open objects', 2147000000
go
reconfigure with override
go
--old value: 2147483647

go
reconfigure with override
go
--old value: 0

sp_configure 'max worker threads', 255
go
reconfigure with override
go
--old value: 255

shutdown the database and out came this:

* Exception Code = c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 80 Generated Fatal Exception C0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Team
I keep getting this error every so often in the SQL Server(2005.90.3054.00). 2005/SP2/Hot Fixes. Windows Server 2003 SP2. I have researched the web, every one seems to have the same question and nobody seems to have an answer.
This somehow does not show up in the Profiler. The apps work normally too.
It is a huge eye sore in the LOGs.

How Do I Specify Catalogue While Querying A Linked Server?

Dec 2, 2005

How do I specify the Catalogue while querying a linked server?

For exmaple, I have a remote SQL 2000 server as a linked server on my server. I will refer to it as "ServerRemote." I was given access to that server through my Active Directory Domain account and the catalogue 'master' was set as my default database.

Aside from having the admin change my default database, is there a way to query a linked server and specify the catalogue in the query?

Right now I use the following code to query the default catalogue for the linked server:
SELECT * FROM ServerRemote...ViewName

I've tried various queryies for a different catalogue but always get a table not found error:

SELECT * FROM ServerRemote..DatabaseName.ViewName
or
SELECT * FROM ServerRemote.DatabaseName..ViewName
or
SELECT * FROM ServerRemote.DatabaseName.ViewName
all return errors

Linked Server Problem When Querying

May 29, 2006

I have a linked SQL Server on another machine which is created using a stored procedure that executes the following:

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'AchillesMixed', @srvproduct = ' ', @provider = 'SQLNCLI', @datasrc = 'ArchillesMixed', @catalog = 'DB_INTRANET'

The stored procedure executes successfully and I can also succesfully DROP the linked server. However when I try to query tables in linked databases using:

SELECT * FROM DB_INTRANET...Employees

I get the following error:

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "DB_Intranet" returned message "Communication link failure".

Msg 10054, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Line 0 Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

The logins are Windows Authentication and even if I use sp_addlinkedsrvlogin to map logins it still gives me the same error.

I have no problems linking and querying linked Access Databases but can't do it for the SQL Server DBs.

Does anyone have any suggestions please.

I would like to query a linked server and join that database to my local database. I finally was able to get it to work and I got this query to work:

select * from openquery([hcda-storagesrvlaserfiche], 'select * from toc where parentid=358')

I would like to join one of my tables from my local database to the query. How can I do this? Thanks!

Slow Connection. ASP Page Querying A Linked Server On MSSQL 2005

Dec 28, 2006

Creating a web application.  Running a simple query "SELECT username FROM vwCustomer"

vwCustomer is a view built on top of an Access DB which is set up as a linked server.  Within SQL Server that view responds immediately.  But when I try to access it from an ASP page it takes over 20 seconds to respond.

Used the following to create the linked server:

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'DBName', 'Jet 4.0', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:databasesdatabase.mdb'

GO

EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'DBName', FALSE, NULL, 'Admin', ''

GO

The view is simply(this works fine in SQL Server):

SELECT * FROM DBName.db.dbo.customer

The ASP page:

SELECT * FROM vwCustomer

Can anyone give me a hint as to where the bottleneck is?  Or how I can figure that out using SQL Profiler or something?

Please help!

Querying A Linked DB Through ASP.NET

Sep 8, 2007

Guys ...

I have a SQL SERVER 2005 running on my local machine. My local machine is also configure for web applications through IIS.

There is a remote oracle db, which is maintained by another department. They gave us read only access but they discourage web access over their oracle database.

Even if you try to access it through web ... they come to know that certain logins are trying to access it through web ... How ... i dont know.

Now what i did is linked that oracle database with my SQL server 2005 and developed an ASP.NET application which is indirectly accessing oracle database though my SQL Server 2005.

Whenever a user visits my web application on the backend the authentication done on my sql server but the query runs on linked oracle server... as I open connection to my sql server 2005

do you guys think that Oracle database administrator can ever know that his oracle db is access through a web application. whereas they allow us to copy required data on our machines through SQL Server 2005?

HELP: SQL Server Is Terminating Because Of Fatal Exception C0000005

Feb 28, 2008

Hi,

We're using SQL Server 2005 SP2, and got an error message of:

SQL Server is terminating because of fatal exception c0000005. This error may be caused by an unhandled Win32 or C++ exception, or by an access violation encountered during exception handling. Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart).

Does anyone know what is the cause of this error and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance, Maxim

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Within SQL Server When Running SSIS Package

May 14, 2007

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right forum, so please point me in the right direction if it isn't.

I'm getting an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION and a minidump in the SQL server logs when using the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.

The error occurs when I run an SSIS package non-interactively (using Package.Execute). The odd thing is that the package works fine when I run it from within Visual Studio. Also, this same bit of code was working fine a couple of weeks ago (it's part of my unit tests, it just started failing when I added a new, unrelated SSIS package to the project). The error occurs during the validation phase.

Here's the first part of the stack dump, which just shows that the provider is executing a very simple statement (SELECT * FROM [table-name]):

Code Snippet

* BEGIN STACK DUMP:
* 05/14/07 10:42:34 spid 56

* Exception Address = 01CBBF90 Module(sqlservr+00CBBF90)
* Exception Code = c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

* & & 02 80 03 00 00 01 26 04 04 04 80 04 00 00 01 26 04 00

I presume this is something for the SQL Server team; how should I go about getting this resolved?

Cheers Rich

Event Source:Microsoft Search
Event Category:Gatherer
Event ID:3036
Description:
The crawl seed <MSSQL75://SQLServer/78bedcc2> in project <SQLServer SQL0000900005> cannot be accessed. Error: c0000005 - A description for this error could not be found.

After that process I got ItemCount -2
using SELECT fulltextcatalogproperty('TestCatalog', 'ItemCount')

Services (SQL and MSSearch) running under LocalSystem Account and have correct BUILTINAdministrators with all privileges.

DB Engine :: How To Point Linked Server To Specific Database / Rename Linked Server

Apr 24, 2015

I am using Linked Server in SQL Server 2008R2 connecting to a couple of Linked Servers.

I was able to connect Linked Servers, but I cannot point to a specific database in a Linked Server, also, I cannot rename Linked Server's name.

How to point the linked server to a specific database? How to rename the Linked Server?

The following is the code that I am using right now:

USE [master]
GO
EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver
    @server = N'Machine123Instance456',
    @srvproduct=N'SQL Server' ;
GO
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'Machine123Instance456', 'false', NULL, 'username', 'password'

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Jul 18, 2001

Hello there,

I have a big problem on one of our servers here.
We have a server (2 processors) with sql7 sp2 (NT4.0 sp6) and 1Gb mem.

With help of client access (V3R2) we retreive data from a AS400 database.
This works well on a lot of out servers (20).

On this one server we get an "exception access violation" :

SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 12 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Server AA0001, Procedure TmpVwAC, Line 3OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure.

It runs well many times and suddenly this error occurs.

Has anyone any idea where or what to look for ?

Thanks in advance

Jürgen

Exception_Access_Violation Info

Sep 15, 1998

To all:
I have installed a new Compaq 7000 with NT4.0 sp3 and Sql Server 6.5 sp4 into production about two weeks ago.
Everything went fine until yesterday. Around noon I received 2 Exception_Access_Violation about a second apart
with two differend spids. About 20 mins later I got the Out of connections message and sql server stopped
reponding. I Could not stop sql server and had to reboot the server. I have configured the connections at 600
and generally we average a little over 400. Everything seems to be running fine now but I would like to get some
information from all the great minds out there!

What exectly is Exception_Access_Violation? Can I figure out what caused it or can I debug it? Do you think that the
EAV caused the out of connections error? Any help, insight would help greatly!

Thanks in advanced,
Glen Whitling

Hi all,
Our production server had a raid failure, which we fixed overnight.

This is where the problem started, at least i think.

Now all of a sudden(after the server was restarted) i am getting following error, when one of the stored procedure gets executed
(I have more then 200 Stored Procedure and they are all working fine)

It does not throw error everytime it gets executed, but randomly it will fail.

"SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 233 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process"

This error also creats a dump file in MSSQLLog and logs into SQL Error Log.

I also did DBCC CHECKDB suggested by many people on Internet and everything seems fine, in terms of data corruption.

CHECKDB found 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors in database 'XXXX'.

I even tried dropping and recreating the stored procedure, but same result and no luck.

My question is why all of a sudden or server re-start would trigger this errors?

By the way I am using VB.Net 2003 and SQL Server 2000. My only fear is that our SQL server does not have latest service pack.

Any ideas or suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Mits

DTS Package: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION When Saving

Aug 15, 2007

My team is getting this message when altering a DTS Package, using SQL 2000 DTS Designer. We have downloaded all the SQL updates (Backward Compatibility, and the one specifically for DTS Save problems. Have tried this in SQL2005 as well. Have uninstalled both of these programs, and reinstalled on local machines. No avail. Here is what happens:

1) Editing an existing DTS Package, such as a Text Change, or simple connection change
2) Saving the file creates the exact message below:

Package Error
Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package
Error Description: Code execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

3) Then you have to choose OK in the windows Popup Box.
4) The DTS is brought back to the original screen, or completely exited out of Designer.
5) From that point, the Package can no longer be opened for editing, unless you open a previous version (which means changes aren't saved.

We have also tried to SAVE AS another filename. This doesn't work either.

Our team has close to 75 DTS Packages, some simple, some more complex. We are corrupting these left and right. This problem happens no matter what is created in the DTS Package.

This is running into our business operations, and we are unable to find out a resolution...HELP

Any insight in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks !

Querying SQL Server Logs

Feb 17, 2005

I've been digging for a while to try to find something, even had a consultant looking for me, but came up empty haned.

What I want to do is this:

I activated the Security Audit level for all logins. I want to be able to report last login date for every user from the log, and all login events for SA or any other defined super users.

Is it possible to Query the SQL Server Logs to report this information?

This is for proposed Sarbox Database Security settings.

Querying Across Databases On Same Server

I know that a heterogeneous query joining tables from two different servershas performance penalties but is the same true when joining tables from twodifferent databases on the same SQL Server 2000 instance? We are looking at setting up a Data Warehouse using DTS on a SQL Server boxand I'm wondering about the best way to logically set it up; i.e. one bighonking db or several dbs determined by some logical organization. With thelatter there will still be some queries that would need data from more thanone db and I'm wondering if that will have worse performance than if theywere all in one db.I thought that was the case in older versions of SS, but I couldn't findanything in 2000's BOL that indicated a problem with that.TIA
