Calling Store Procedure From Aspx

Jun 7, 2004

hi , I would appreicate your help, I have created a store procedure in MS sql server 2000 to be called from aspx page.

The store procedure will have multiple functions:

checking if a file exist in c:data

if file exist, it will use zip file command line to unzip the file and then run DTS package to upload the database.

The issue I am having is when I run the store procedure from MS query analyzer,I get a confirmation that the whole procedure ran successfully, but when I call the same procedure from aspx, althought the store procedure ran successfully, but I did not get any confirmation to the user in the aspx page to notify the user that the process successed.... here is my code in where I think is not working,

CREATE PROCEDURE p_on_demand_dts_sales_option_price_report_3_ftest

@id int , @msg_output varchar(28) output

as

declare @varcmd varchar(255),@FileExist int

select @varcmd = null

select @varcmd ='dir :Data_on_demandsales_option_price_report.csv' -- check if file exist

EXEC @FileExist = master..xp_cmdshell @varcmd

set @msg_output = 'The file exists'

Return 44

+++ The above store procedure use command line to check if the csv file exist, its suppose will return a output parameter and a return # BUT it did not. To my surprise, when I modify the above store procedure like this, it work

-----

CREATE PROCEDURE p_on_demand_dts_sales_option_price_report_3_ftest

@id int , @msg_output varchar(28) output

as

set @msg_output = 'The file exists'

Return 44

The second procedure does not do anything, except take input parameter and return a message output and return, this work.

since the second procedure works, it means that the code in aspx is correct, but I have no clue why it does not return output parameter and return # in the first procedure.

I would really appreciate anyone who could help.

thanks

Execute Xp_cmdshell From Store Procedure (called From Aspx)

May 21, 2004

Hi, I have been searching for an answer to allow me to execute xp_cmdshell from withing store prcedure by calling the store procedure from an aspx via click on a button. This is what I found from my reserch but was not able to know where to set the rights and what each of them means:
"To run xp_cmdshell for a non-system administrator user, you must grant the following rights.
MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent Services
Act as part of the Operating System.
Increase Quotas.
Replace a process level token.
Log on as a batch job."

The above quote was from the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;264155

The bottom line is to be able to call a store procedure from an aspx page to execute the code which contain xp_cmdshell command, an example of such command is like:
------------------------------------------------------------
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'dir d:BT_importDatasales_option_price_report.csv'

Thanks for your help

Calling The Same Store Procedure Repeatly, But Only Work In The First Time

Apr 18, 2006

I had try calling a function, that call a store procedure, repeatly using a for loop, but I notice it will only get the expected part_id in the first time, and return an empty string sub-sequentially without throwing an exception. So I had try using a sql query instead, but the same thing happen. Below is my function, can you point out to me what's wrong?
My original version that calls a store procedure
Public Shared Function getPartId(ByVal part_supplierserialnumber As String) As String
Dim mySqlCommand As New SqlCommand
Dim mySqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(GetERATSConnectionString())
Dim myPart_id As String
mySqlCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
mySqlCommand.CommandText = "getPartId"
mySqlCommand.Connection = mySqlConnection
mySqlCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@part_supplierserialnumber", part_supplierserialnumber))
Try
mySqlConnection.Open()
myPart_id = mySqlCommand.ExecuteScalar()
Catch ex As Exception
myPart_id = ""
Finally
mySqlConnection.Close()
mySqlConnection.Dispose()
End Try
Return myPart_id
End Function
My Store procedure
create procedure getPartId@part_supplierserialnumber as nvarchar(50)as
select top 1 part_id from tblPtSingapore where part_supplierserialnumber = @part_supplierserialnumber order by part_datecreated desc

GO
The new version I tried which happen the same thing
Public Shared Function getPartId(ByVal part_supplierserialnumber As String) As String
Dim myPart_id As String
Dim strSql As String = "select top 1 part_id from tblPtSingapore where part_supplierserialnumber = '" & part_supplierserialnumber & "' order by part_datecreated desc"
Dim mySqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(GetERATSConnectionString())
Dim mySqlCommand As New SqlCommand(strSql, mySqlConnection)
Try
mySqlConnection.Open()
myPart_id = mySqlCommand.ExecuteScalar()
Catch ex As Exception
myPart_id = ""
Finally
mySqlConnection.Close()
mySqlConnection.Dispose()
End Try
Return myPart_id
End Function

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Calling SSIS Package Through Store Procedure

Dec 4, 2014

I am calling Store Procedure from my C# Code and inside the SP, I am calling my SSIS Package.It is working fine. On my local because I have all rights to run xp_cmdshell COMMAND. Now I have to transfer this SP to QA and Prod and I don't have rights to run xp_cmdshell COMMAND.

Here is my SP.

declare @cmd varchar(1000)
SET @ssispath = 'SSIS Package Path where my .dtsx package'
set @ExcelF = 'Passing My source file name and full path'

select @cmd = 'C:"program files (x86)""Microsoft SQL Server"100DTSBinnDTEXEC.exe /F "' + @ssispath + '"'
select @cmd = @cmd + ' /X86 /SET Package.Variables[User::ExcelF].Properties[Value];"' + @ExcelF + '" /X86 '
exec master..xp_cmdshell @cmd

My question is, is there other way to run/execute above Store Procedure/SSIS without XP_CMDSHELL Command?

Asp.net Page Is Unable To Retrieve The Right Data Calling The Store Procedure From The Dataset/data Adapter

Apr 11, 2007

I'm trying to figure this out
 I have a store procedure that return the userId if a user exists in my table, return 0 otherwise
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Create Procedure spUpdatePasswordByUserId
@userName varchar(20),
@password varchar(20)
AS
Begin
Declare @userId int
Select @userId = (Select userId from userInfo Where userName = @userName and password = @password)
if (@userId > 0)
return @userId
else
return 0
------------------------------------------------------------------
I create a function called UpdatePasswordByUserId in my dataset with the above stored procedure that returns a scalar value. When I preview the data from the table adapter in my dataset, it spits out the right value.
But when I call this UpdatepasswordByUserId from an asp.net page, it returns null/blank/0
 passport.UserInfoTableAdapters oUserInfo = new UserInfoTableAdapters();
Response.Write("userId: " + oUserInfo.UpdatePasswordByUserId(txtUserName.text, txtPassword.text) );
 Do you guys have any idea why?

Stored Procedure To ASPX

Apr 28, 2004

Hello,

I have a stored procedure that is used to create a DataDictionary for the database. Basically, the sproc generates HTML and you can then run it from Query Analyzer by Saving to a file.

What I want to do is to run this from an aspx page.

The sproc uses PRINT to create the text.

Like this.

PRINT '<html>'
PRINT '<head>'
PRINT ' <title>SQL Server Data Dictionary Report - ' + @strDatabase + ' </title>'
PRINT '</head>'
PRINT '<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" link="#008000" vlink="#008000">'
PRINT '<a name="Top"></a>'
PRINT '<div align="left">'

Is it possible to get the text that is generated from this sproc?

What do I need to do to get the text that has been created and display it on a page?

Thanks a lot.

Timeout Expired When Run A Stored Procedure From Aspx Page.

Mar 2, 2004

I have a stored procedure when query a big table about 500,000 records. When I run the stored procedure in the query analyzer, it is very fast and it only takes 2~3 seconds. However, when my aspx page try to call this stored-procedure with a Command's ExecuteReader method like bellow:

SqlDataReader myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();

I always get timeout expired exception. I try to set the connection timeout and command timeout to 100 seconds. The exception is gone but the average execution time is about 25 seconds! While the stored-procedure only takes about 2~3 seconds in query analyzer with the same parameter.

What could be the problem?? I tried to figure this out for a couple days but still no clue.

Thanks.

Stored Procedure To Update/refresh Aspx Page

May 5, 2004

Hello,

I have a table which gets updated roughly every 6 seconds with data. I have setup an aspx page with a datagrid to meta tag refresh every 3 seconds.

Because the data sometimes stops for a couple of minutes or even hours, I was thinking of a way to update/refresh the aspx page only when the table data gets entered ( to stop page flickering every 3 seconds).

I was thinking about a stored procedure and using an on update procedure.

Does anyone have any preffered methods or suggestions on the best way to accomplish this task.

I use VB.Net

Thanks

How To Create A Stored Procedure Of This Code (inline Sql In Aspx) ?

Jun 2, 2006

I have some SQL code as inline SQL (bad habit, I know). Now I want to convert this to an sproc, but I'm pretty much out of ideas here. The code looks like this:
string SQL = "SELECT * FROM MyDBTable WHERE 1=1";
if (txtMyField1.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField1 = @MyField";
}
if (txtMyField2.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField2 LIKE '%'+ @MyField2 + '%'";
}
if (txtMyField3.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField3 LIKE '%' + @MyField3 + '%'";
}
I have an search page built on ASP.NET 2.0. Based on what the user has entered to the form fields, the SQL in constructed on the fly. Since this is now inside codebehind file (aspx.cs), I want to get rid of it and move it to an sproc. But the question is how ? Some simple SQL clauses are easy to convert to an sproc but this is causing me lots of issues.

As far as I can tell this is because it is unable to read the location of the package despite it being a file system location within Management studio. Also I can run the package manually within Management Studio, but when I try to call it via the job it fails.

(Could Not Find Stored Procedure ''.) When Calling A User Defined Procedure

Feb 4, 2008

Hi,I'm tring to call a stored procedure i'v made from a DNN module, via .net control.When I try to execute this sql statement: EXEC my_proc_name 'prm_1', 'prm_2', ... the system displays this error: Could not find stored procedure ''. (including the trailings [".] chars :)I've tried to run the EXEC statement from SqlServerManagement Studio, and seems to works fine, but sometimes it displays the same error. So i've added the dbname and dbowner as prefix to my procedure name in the exec statement and then in SqlSrv ManStudio ALWAYS works, but in dnn it NEVER worked... Why? I think it could be a db permission problem but i'm not able to fix this trouble, since i'm not a db specialist and i don't know which contraint could give this problem. Also i've set to the ASPNET user the execute permissions for my procedure... nothing changes :( Shoud someone could help me? Note that I'm using a SqlDataSource object running the statement with the select() method (and by setting the appropriate SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure ) and I'm using the 2005 sql server express Thank in advance,(/d

Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)

Please help and advise.

I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

12 SET @dagverslagdetailID = SCOPE_IDENTITY()
13
14 -- Insert statements for procedure here
15 BEGIN TRANSACTION
16 INSERT LogDetail (LogID, CategorieID, Inhoud)
17 VALUES(@logID, @categorieID, @inhoud)
18 COMMIT TRANSACTION
19 END

Now i would like to call that stored procedure in my previous method, so i've changed it to this:
 1 public void AddDagVerslagCategorie(int logID, HistoriekDetail historiekDetail)
2 {
3 SqlConnection oConn = new SqlConnection(_connectionString);
4 string strSql = "insert_DagVerslagDetail";
5 strSql += "values(@logID, @categorieID, @inhoud)";
6 SqlCommand oCmd = new SqlCommand(strSql, oConn);
7 oCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
8 oCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@logID", SqlDbType.Int)).Value = logID;
9 oCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@categorieID", SqlDbType.Int)).Value = historiekDetail.CategorieID;
10 oCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@inhoud", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100)).Value = historiekDetail.Inhoud;
11
12 try
13 {
14 oConn.Open();
15 int rowsAffected = oCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
16 if (rowsAffected == 0) throw new ApplicationException("Fout toevoegen historiek detail");
17 oCmd.CommandText = "select @@IDENTITY";
18 oCmd.Parameters.Clear();
19 historiekDetail.HistoriekDetailID = (int)(decimal)oCmd.ExecuteScalar();
20 }
21 catch (Exception ex)
22 {
23 throw new ApplicationException("Fout toevoegen historiek detail: " + ex.Message);
24 }
25 finally
26 {
27 if (oConn.State == ConnectionState.Open) oConn.Close();
28 }
29 }

Do i still need the lines 17                   oCmd.CommandText = "select @@IDENTITY";
                                 19                   historiekDetail.HistoriekDetailID = (int)(decimal)oCmd.ExecuteScalar();
Because i've declared the identity in my stored procedure

Out Vs. Ref When Calling Stored Procedure

Apr 8, 2008

Hi, I have a stored procedure, and it is expecting an output. If I declared the passing varaible as ref, it compiles fine, but it is not returning any value. If I pass the varaible as out, and add the paramater
MyComm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@ReturnValue", returnValue));  it gives the following error.
Compiler Error Message: CS0269: Use of unassigned out parameter 'quoteID'.
 And if I don't supply the previous statement, the following error occurs.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure 'CreateData' expects parameter '@ReturnValue', which was not supplied.
How Can I fix this? thanks.

Calling A DTS Stored Procedure From ASP.NET

Dec 15, 2003

I have a stored procedure that calls a DTS package to grab a text file that has been uploaded to the server and merge it with a table on the database. The DTS package works woderfully in SQL, as does the the file upload. The problem arrises when I create a stored procedure to run the DTS package. I know that you have to shell out and do a command line on the SQL server (and I think that I got the syntax correct) but its calling the Stored Procedure in the ASP.NET app that is causing me hardship. Here is the code that I have so far:

Stored Procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE spSampleData AS exec master..xp_cmdshell 'dtsrun /SZEUSsqlServer113 /NdtsPackage /UuserID /Ppassword'
GO

VB to run DTS:

Dim myCommand As SqlCommand
myCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
myCommand.CommandText = "spSampleData"
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but any help would be great.

Thanks!

Calling Stored Procedure

Feb 6, 2004

I am trying to set up a call to a Stored Procedure to do an Insert. Here is my code snippet:

<%@ Page Language="VB" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %>
.
.
.
Dim loConn as New SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionString"))
Dim cmdInsert as New SQLCommand("AdminUser_Insert", loConn)
cmdInsert.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

Dim InsertForm As New SqlDataAdapter()
InsertForm.InsertCommand = cmdInsert

cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@RETURN_VALUE", SqlDbType.bigint, 8, "Account_Number"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@RETURN_VALUE").Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue
cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@UserID", SqlDbType.varchar, 50, "UserID"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@UserID").Value = Request("UserID")
cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Password", SqlDbType.varchar, 32, "Password"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@Password").Value = Request("Password")
cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@First_Name", SqlDbType.varchar, 32, "First_Name"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@First_Name").Value = Request("FirstName")
cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Middle_Name", SqlDbType.varchar, 32, "Middle_Name"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@Middle_Name").Value = Request("MiddleName")
cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Last_Name", SqlDbType.varchar, 32, "Last_Name"))
cmdInsert.Parameters("@Last_Name").Value = Request("LastName")

loConn.Open()
command.ExecuteNonQuery()
loConn.Close()

I get the following error:

Compilation Error
Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.

Compiler Error Message: BC30451: Name 'CommandType' is not declared.

This error happens on the line: cmdInsert.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

Any help would be appreciated,
Greg
