Can Not Login My Database When Published To IIS

May 14, 2007

hi,

i am tring to use the 'xcopy' way to deploy my web site, this is the connection string i am using:

"Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;INITIAL CATALOG=;AttachDbFilename='|DataDirectory|HotStage.mdf';Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"

it works when in debug mode, but after i depoly it to my XP's IIS, it can not login the database, the error message is :

Cannot Login to the default user database. Login Failed. Login Failed for user xxxASPNET

'xxx' is my computer.

i think this problem is cause of improper setting of security, but i really do not know how to set it in this situation, because the database is attached to the db system dynamically.

plz someone help, thx

SQL Express Database In Published Web Site

Mar 26, 2007

I have been working with Visual Studio 2005 and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit. All is well and working. My problem is that after the database is updated (as in uploading photos and album creation) and the original web site is edited and republished, the web site database is overwritten and all the work is lost. What is the proceedure to either copy the web database to the development site on my computer so updates will not be lost, or a method of publishing that will not loose the up to date content on the web server? I would much prefer to be able to copy the database to my development computer as adding tables to the database is something that needs to be done. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

My Published Application Can't Access The Database

Jun 8, 2007

Hi

I am nearing the end of creating my Windows App for work. So I tried to publish it, that was fine until I ran the app, from the same PC as I use to develop, with the same login etc. However when I use the published app I can't connect, to the database, return to VS2005 and run my app from within there and no problems. It is SQLEXPRESS (SQL Server 2005), but I have checked the settings there are correct (I assume VS wouldn't connect otherwise).

Help please.

Details...

Server = FRED database =Joe

Connection string (Data Source=FREDSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=JOE;Integrated Security=True

Server (Win2003) and my PC (Win2K) are on the same domain

Using TCP/IP

I can't see how to enable JiT debugging despite the 'help' at the end of this error details...
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Web Application Will Not Function After Being Published (database Problem)

Jun 27, 2006

Hello everybody,

Here is the case:

1 €“ When I make a web application with VS 2005 (on a Windows XP Pro SP 2 machine) using a database (with the included SQL 2005 Express) all works fine on my dev computer

2 €“ After publishing that application on my Web server (an old but fresh reformatted machine with Windows 2000 Server SP 4 - but without any special feature of server version such as active directory configured -, IIS 5, SQL 2005 Express SP 1 with Advance Services, both 1.1 and 2.0 frameworks installed on it). I have this error when I call the application from IE:

(Be kind as all my configuration and error messages are in French so I try to translate them the best I can but if translation is not clear tell me €“ and if someone knows how I can have those messages in English tell me also ;-)

Open session failure for user [my web server name]ASPNET

For information I have done/try all the following (and probably more; don€™t remember as I am stuck on this since nearly 2 weeks now ) without success:

- changing the SQL Server surface area exposition to remote connections for TCP/IP, named pipes and both (in fact even when the exposition is set to local I still have the same error€¦)

- adding a [my web server name]ASPNET account with dbo/sysadmin rights with SQL Server Management Studio Express, as well as other special accounts (IUSR and IWAM)

- manually attaching database under SQL Server Management Studio Express and mapping the above accounts to it (and of course modifying the ConnectionString settings in the web.config file accordingly)

- same thing with those 3 accounts but this time for folder and subfolders with full control rights

- publishing my web application with both Publish Site and Copy Site options from VS 2005 (which seem to do exactly the same thing). I am using the Remote site connection option (the one where you need to enter the IP address of the web site and have FrontPage extensions installed on it)

- and all other stuff as mentioned in an earlier post on this matter (http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPost.aspx?postid=505487&isthread=false&siteid=1&authhash=7399dc0a380f8452fd1aa40f4b530be62a7a8e70&ticks=632868985326044888)

I can give any complementary information such as error stack trace or web.config file if needed to help me.

For information, I have an older web application running (perfectly) on this server. This one was done with VS 2002/framework 1.0/SQL Server 7.0 database and is now running with framework 1.1/SQL Server 2005 Express on the server. I thought at first that application would be the one to give me headaches as the database was from an older version of SQL Server but I simply attached the .mdf file under SQL Server Management Studio Express and all worked perfectly and immediately€¦

I am not too bad in development but I must confess I am quite a noob as Windows/IIS/SQL server/network administrator so I really need a help on this as I am stuck since nearly 2 weeks and I think I won€™t have many hair left on my head if I don€™t find quickly a solution to that problem.

Thanks in advance.

Access SQL Server 2005 Database Using A Published Website

Jun 26, 2006

Hi all,
 I am stuck with a problem using ASP.Net website. I created a website which accesses a database table in SQL Server 2005. The default.aspx is a form which inserts/updates/deletes data from the database. After creating the website I published it to IIS (Inetpub -> wwwroot). When I use Visual Studio 2005 and build the website and start with debugging. the form comes up and i can insert/update or delete the data from the table as I want. Now, as I have the website published I can access the form from another sharepoint website using the url as
/Employee_Data/Default.aspx">http://<mydesktop>/Employee_Data/Default.aspx
the form shows up but I am not able to access any of the database. I do not see any errors either. Once I click on the button the page just refreshes but nothing else happens. I have my web.config as :-
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<appSettings/>
<connectionStrings/>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true"/>
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Am I missing something? I even have Anonymous access in the IIS inetpub properties. I can even the database as I am the administrator..... I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks,
Kavya

Cannot Open Database XXXX Requested By Login. The Login Failed. Login Failed For User 'xxx'

Mar 18, 2007

hi,
 so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login.  The login failed.  Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database.  I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account.  Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too.  But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database.  If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped.  Any ideas?

Cannot Open Database Dbname Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

May 29, 2008

I am getting the above error. On server1 I am running a dts package via a sql server job (sql server2005). This has been working perfectly for over a year. This package needs to access a database on server2. The database in question on server2 was recently restored from our produciton environment to refresh the data. Every since thsi time the job on server1 is failing with the above error.

Steps I have taken so far:

Cannot Open Database EBayTrader Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

Jun 8, 2006

Hello.

I'm using Visual Web Developer, .NET Framework 2.0, ASP.NET 20., IIS 5.1. on Windows XP Pro SP2.

I have assigned every possible user i can think of full permissions to the web folder, all of the subfolders, and the database files. This includes Administrator, Administrator Groups, ASPNET user, IUSR_Machine, Interner guest account, Network Group, Network Service Group, Power Users Group, Users.

I'm logged on as administrator.

When i run the web service from within VWD, i get this error.

Cannot open database "eBayTrader" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'DHJC2R91ASPNET'.

Does anybody know how to resolve this problem ?

I have been working on it for days. I will gladly pay someone to work this out with me over the phone/email. I'll send you a check before we start.

Thanks,

Tony

Cannot Open Database TestDB Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

Jun 2, 2006

I have created a new database within SQLServer Express 2005 and have an ASP page in IIS. Any time i attempt to access the database I get the following error:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "testDB" requested by the login. The login failed.

The ODBC connection that I have created works fine if connecting to the same table (literally three sample fields with two records) in an Access database.

The database connection that I am using is:

Set DatabaseConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
DatabaseConnection.Open "DSN=testDB;UID=EINSTEINAdministrator&pwd=password;DATABASE=testDB;APP=ASP Script"
Set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.recordset")
SQLString = "SELECT * FROM testTable"
rs.Open SQLString, DatabaseConnection
if NOT rs.EOF then
Response.Write(rs("testField1") & " - " & rs("testField2"))
end if
rs.Close
DatabaseConnection.Close
Set DatabaseConnection = Nothing

EINSTEIN is the name of the server, rs = Recordset. I have tried changing to just Administrator instead of machinenameAdministrator with no success. I have got SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP, and can log in fine to SQL Server using EINSTEINAdministrator.

Please can anyone help!

Login To Database Failed, But Login To Database Was Granted

May 16, 2007

See previous post with WCF connection working some times for additional info.

I'm checking the server log and my attempt to log into one database works. When I try to login to the second database I get this logged:

Login failed for user 'xxx' (Client {my ip address} )

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16

When I go to the database server and pull up the user, both the original and second database are checked in the User Mappings at the Server Users level. If I set master to the intial database, the first database, or the second database as the initial catalog....I can access the first database but not the second.

No I have not found one word written for SQL Server 2005 that I could find that states THIS IS HOW YOU ENABLE LOGIN FOR A DATABASE, however since I've not found anything different between the DB that works and the one that doesn't then I must assume I've done things right.

The only thing that is odd on the server is that there are two different logins created with different names but for the same user. I've made sure that database 2 is checked for both user records. I tried to purge the duplicate but I get a DROP failure and don't have the time to try and interpret SQL Servers' obscure error messages.

I need to get access before 3PM EST and would love any help on this brick wall ASAP. Thanks.

Cannot Open Database Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

Apr 18, 2007

I get that error.I'm sure you see this question alot, but i'm dumfounded by it. Problem is that i've taken the code directly off the live website, yes i've changed the connection string...  Private _connStr As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=EFM;User ID=*****;password=******;Trusted_Connection=true" and am using the database that was originally worked on... Only thing that has changed is my new computer.... had to reload everything... new VWD, new sql express, new sql servermanagement studio express... all semmingly working fine... ie i can see the database and edit it, i just cant connect to it through the localhost to test the program. Any Ideas? why does this error come up... how can i fix it? Thanks in advance  Cannot open database "EFM" requested by the login. Cannot Open Database Xx Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

Jul 20, 2006

Hi,
we are running a webapplication, using IIS6, Windows 2003 64 bit in classic Asp.
In the asp pages we connect to our SQL server (SQL Server 2005 64bit,windows 2003 64 bit), mirrored on a third sql server (same software setup as the first sql server).

The mirroring is without witness.

This works perfectly but sometimes we get the following error :

Description: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot open database
"OBJECTS" requested by the login. The login failed.

In the logs of sql, we see that the offending connection does not go the principal but to the mirror. Which would cause the problem of course..

The name of the database varies, and there is no consistent error. Most of the time there are no problems (95%), but sometimes we get these errors.

Connection from the asp to sql is done using ADO, using following driver in the connectionstring :

Driver="{SQL Native Client}"

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem ?
We can of course increase timouts for the mirroring, but is this the solution ?

Cannot Open Database Xx Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.

Aug 24, 2006

Hi,
we are running a webapplication, using IIS6, Windows 2003 64 bit in classic Asp.
In
the ASP pages we connect to our SQL server (SQL Server 2005
64bit,windows 2003 64 bit), mirrored on a third sql server (same
software /hardware setup as the first sql server).

The mirroring is without witness.

This works but sometimes we get the following ODBC error in our ASP application :

Description: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot open database
"OBJECTS" requested by the login. The login failed.

No error can be seen in the principal SQL error logs.
But a failed authorization can be found on the mirror server..
And this of course this makes
sense, as the connection does not go to the primary but to the
secondary, which is acting as mirror. And therefore can not be accessed.
The question is : why
does the connection sometimes jumps in stead from the primary server,
to the mirror server ? Nowhere in the code I give a secondary server as
reference.

Most of
the time there are no problems (97%), but sometimes we get these errors.

The moments that this error occures are random, as are the databases with which the error occurs.

The connection is made through ODBC in an ASP web application (IIS6) , simelar to :

Set oCn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
oCn.CommandTimeout = 180
oCn.Open lconstring

where lconstring is a dsn param : e.g. "filedsn=c:datadsnmastercon.dsn"
where the dsn file contains following info :

[ODBC]
DRIVER={SQL Native Client}
UID=myuserid
pwd=mypwd
Address=xxx.yyy.zzz.qqq,myport
Network=DBMSSOCN
DATABASE=MyDatabaseName
WSID=xxx.yyy.zzz.qqq
APP=Microsoft Open Database Connectivity
SERVER=xxx.yyy.zzz.qqq
Description=blabla

I tried the above without the DSN, so a dsnless connection string. Nothing changed.
I tried following drivers :{SQL Native Client} and SQLNCLI
Nothing changed

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem ?
We can of course increase timouts for the mirroring, but is this the solution ?
Before we started using SQL 2005 and mirroring this problem did not occur.

Aspclassic On IIS7 SQL 2005. ODBC SQL Server Driver[SQL Server]Cannot Open Database Requested By The Login. The Login Failed

Apr 16, 2008

Hi all,

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.

My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring

from this peice of code:

sub dbOpen()
set dbConnect = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cstring = "DSN=mysqldsn; Trusted Connection=yes"
dbConnect.Open cstring
end sub

I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)

I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?

Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Moved Aspnetdb To SQL Server - What Permissions Do I Need To Give The ASP IIS Service Account For That? (Getting: Cannot Open Database Aspnetdb Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.)

May 12, 2008

I am getting the error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.

Thank you.

EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role.  Is that correct?

More Efficient Way Than You Have Published

Dec 8, 2004

Sumanesh writes "Recently I read one article “Converting Multiple Rows into a CSV string

(http://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=256)

I have found one easy and more efficient way to achieve the same thing.
First I have a table called test with 2 columns (ID and Data)
And some data inserted into it.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].CombineData(@ID SMALLINT)
RETURNS VARCHAR(2000)
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @Data VARCHAR(2000)

SET @Data = ''
SELECT @Data = @Data + Data + ',' FROM Test WHERE ID = @ID
RETURN LEFT(@Data,LEN(@Data)-1)

END
GO

Then used a simple select query to achieve the same

SELECT DISTINCT ID, [dbo].CombineData(ID) FROM Test

Which achieved the same thing without using any temporary tables and Cursors. I am sure that you will accept that this is more efficient than the one that has been published.

Thanks

Cannot Connect From Published Site To My DB

Apr 17, 2007

I'm getting the following error:An error has occurred while establishing a connection
to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be
caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not
allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26
- Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Here's the setup: I have a website I've published on my server, but I haven't moved the SQL DB over to the server. For some reason the testing server can't connect with sql express on my computer. I have named pipes, tcp/ip both on, connections string is "Data Source=AMBA-176SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI"When I'm simply testing the site locally in visual studio it can connect just fine.

Altering A Published Table

Feb 12, 2004

Hi! I've added a column to a published table in the Publisher using SP_REPLADDCOLUMN. After doing this the replication triggers for that table(i.e. del_%,upd_%,ins_%) are doubled both at the Publisher and at the Subscriber. If i update anyone of the column in the table at the Subscriber; i get the following error:

Server: Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure upd_3E6DE124B82D42A5AEB169557C0D757C, Line 60
Invalid object name 'ctsv_3E6DE124B82D42A5AEB169557C0D757C'.

Any ideas, what has gone wrong????

I have the following SQL setup.
Publisher: Enterprise Edition, SP3.
Subscriber: Standard-Edition, SP3.
The error is at the Subscriber.

Published SQL Server Not Showing In AD

Aug 26, 2005

I've been unable to determine why several published instances of my SQL Servers are not showing in AD. I searched under the Computer container in the domain in which the SQL Server was installed and did not see any SQL Server folder. I have used both the GUI and T-SQL to publish various instances, and it appeared to have worked since from the GUI the "Publish" option no longer worked and I recieved no error from Query Analyzer after issuing the command. The version is SQL Server 2000 8.0 running SP3a.

I also ran a VBScript to query the directory for published instances of SQL server, but did not get any results returned in the recordset. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
