I would like to know if there is any trick to convert numbers to csv files. I don't have any control to format the numbers.
Source: Sql server
for example:
select cast( 1 as float)/ cast(201 as float)
Destination:CSV file
the output of the file is 4,9751243E-3
i don't want to have scientific notation on the number. I want the result to be 0,00497512437810945. how can i do it?
I tried to change the type of destination columns to String or numeric but nothing works. what is the influence of changing data type in the destination columns e the output to files?
I tried using convert but with the same results.
Can it be because of local settings or something else?
I have an excel export with numeric values. When the SSIS package writes into the excel it treats all data types as strings and attaches an apostrophe in the beginning. I tried formatting the excel sheet with the number data type and saving it . It doesnt work.
Other strange thing is that when I go into the advanced editor for the excel destination and look into the properties of the external columns all of them have the data type as Unicode String[DT_WSTR] irrespective of what the data type is from the input. The UI allows me to change it to numeric for numeric columns without any error but the value is not saved at all which is very frustrating. I also tried changing it in the xml file of the package, it some how seems to overwrite it after validation. It would be really nice if it threw an error saying that it cannot be changed.
Anyways there seems to be no way of changing the destination data type if it s an existing file and if I create a new excel sheet there is no way of formatting data. Is there any way out?
Is there a recommended file format (csv, xml, txt) when choosing a file destination for SSIS? Does a file format impact the performance in terms of loading? Let's say i have chosen to use a .csv as my file destination (this has 15million rows and 50 columns with 2 bigint and the rest binary(32)) and later on, i would need to reload them back to table using SSIS. Is using csv faster than e.g. xml when reloading? Does it have performance impact at all?
Hello Nice simple T-SQL question that will no doubt prove totally uncontroversial :) Anyone know the easiest way to get from:123456789to123,456,789in T-SQL? Currently I cast my int as money, use convert to varchar with style 1 and then lop off the .00. Is there an easier way? Two things before you get all upset and start squealing about front ends:1) These are admin functions that I am running from SSMS. I don't want to go to the bother of creating an application when SSMS is perfectly adequate for what I need (namely to-a-large-degree unformatted result sets).2) I'm not too fussed about it just curious. Ta & tra la!
Hi all i'm having an issues when i trying to do a report:
i make a report and there is a field which contains data that can be numeric and numeric with letter: "77756" or "345WS" when i export my report to excel i and i open it i get like a make in the upper left coner of the cells that have only numbers asking me to convert this to numeric format, but this think is that i need this values to be string so i can apply filtering. is there a way that i can format my cell to string so the excel take it like that and allowme to do the autoifilter.
To be able to tell the Period number ([PD]) to change from an integer to a var_char so that it can be concatenated with the Fiscal Year. I.e. Fiscal Year || Period number to produce the following results.
2006 01
2006 02
2006 03
Etc……
Status of Problem:
The issue is that I can only get it done to the point to where the Fiscal Year || Period number yields the following results:
20061
200610
200611
200612
20062
Etc….
This is as issue since I am trying to get all the information from the past to a certain year and period. Using a filter that says
Fiscal Year + Period Number <= ?Prompt_Fiscal_Year? + ?Prompt_Period_Number?
So if I enter Year: 2007 Period 3
I should get:
2006 01
2006 02
2006 03
Etc…….
2006 11
2006 12
2007 01
2007 02
2007 03
Can you please let me know if my thinking is off or if my SQL is wrong, Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Program Descritpion: Our product allows our customers to enter their product catalogs into our ASP.NET pages and we save the data using SQL Server 2005. Customer use GridViews to edit their data and teh data is broken into manageable groupings (called Field Groups) stored as meta-data in SQL Server Tables. Then when a user wants to edit a set of data they choose the Field Group and we dynamically generate a data source and a gridview, bind them together, and our users update their data. A bit more complicated but that's teh gist. Another thing they can do, and where our problem occurs, is they can print reports or do exports into excel using this data. Since there are so many fields, they use the Field Groups to select which fields they want included so everything needs to be built dynamcially, at runtime, using the Field Group meta-data. Essentially, I want my grid to have these 10 fields. Problem:For the export we generate an XML data source using FOR XML in SQL Sprocs. The xml is pulled into a xmldatadocument, trasnformed with an xsl file into an Excel XML Spreadsheet. Our problem is that FOR XML is generating our XML real numbers in scientific format. The xsl "format-number" function does not recognize scientific format and returns NaN (not a number) instead of the value in my spreadsheet. If I leave it blank I get the scientific number but Excel doesn't format it correctly, the cell has an error tag that wants me to choose Number stored as text or convert to a number. I need it to show up on teh Excel form already formatted without that message. I can't change the DataType of the field in SQL, too many other things depend on it and it needs to be a real. I can't use CONVERT(decimal, fieldName) in SQL because the SQL string is dynmically generated using Dynamic SQL and most of the fields are not real. When we build the Field List we just have field names, we can't check anything to add CONVERT functions to only real fields. Is there any way to force the XML output to not be scientific for the entire document? Or another function in XSL I'm unaware of (pretty new to xsl)? Or perhaps something I can do in the XML Spreadsheet tags to force the conversion?
/* Format strings for fractional Numbers and Currency values
Return Values: VARCHAR Parameters: @n Specifies numeric expression to format. @sFormat: Specifies one or more format codes that determine how the expression is formatted.
The following table lists the available format codes.
Hello, I'm having problems with a column of numeric string data coming from a tab delimited CSV file. When a number in the column is negative, it is expressed this way; 1,240.52-
The negative symbol occurs at the end of the numeric string. The destination column is in a SQL Server 2005 table. I've tried to change the data type of the table column, and three or four different data types in a data conversion task, but nothing has worked so far to bring the data over.
I have table with 3 columns: record_id (int), car (varchar(50)), amount (decimal(18,4)).
I created dimension for drillthrough action. Also I set Amount's column FormatString to '##0.00' but when I use Drillthough column Amount values is shown like:
.0000 15.7900 18.4100
Is there any possibility to change that values would be shown as follow:
I have designed a package that works perfectly well, exporting data to an excel file from an ole db source. The problem is that in the excel destination file, columns of data that originally were numbers, are formatted as text. It would be just annoying if it weren't because I use those figures in a pivot table that operates with them.
Any idea on how to tell Excel that those columns are numbers?
Need to know how I can get the dynamic filename created in the FlatFile destination for insert into a package audit table?
Scenario: Have created a package that successfully outputs Dynamiclly named flat files { Format: C:Test’Comms_File_’ + ‘User::FileNumber’+’_’+Date +’.txt’
E.g.: Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt etc} using Foreach Loop Container :
* Enumerator Set to: “Foreach ADO Enumerator” with the ADO object source variable selected to identify how many total loop iterations there are i.e. Let’s say 4 thus 4 files to be created
*Variable Mappings : added the User::FileNumber – indicates which file number current loop iteration is i.e. 1,2,3,4
For the DataFlow task have a OLDBSource and a FlatFile Destination where Flat File ConnectionString is set up as:
I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination. In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:
Data as of: 08/25/2015
if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same Data as of: 08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).
I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of: 08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:
08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package runs only once.
How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of: 08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.
I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.
Currently, this is what I have: FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank
For Each Loop Container Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.
Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(User::FileDestinationPath?).Value = dts.Variables(User::FileDestinationPath?).Value & ? Month & _? & Day & _? & Year & ?) which gives me C:TestFiles 9_14_2006?.
File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.
Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that days date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I cant hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the Variable FileNameAndLocation? is used as a source or destination and is empty.?
Let me know if I need to clarify further...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am stuck at one place, where I have to convert CSV format file data into SAP IDOC format file. In SSIS we don't have any such SAP adapter (though we have .NET Data Provider for mySAP suite [SSIS SAP Adapter] but this is still not fully supported by Microsoft, plus it doesn't have feature to convert data into IDOC format) that can do this. Can someone here please provide me some pointers on any third party adapters available in market to do this job or if anyone has already developed some custom approach to achieve this task?
Your quick response on this is highly appreciated.
I am running my package in sql server 2012, in which i am giving network path for flat file destination. And its working fine. But if i give m local path, its giving me error " cannot open data file" ...
I have a report with a column which contains either a string such as "N/A" or a number such as 12. A user exports the report to Excel. In Excel the numbers are formatted as text.
I already tried to set the value as CDbl which returns error for the cells containing a string.
The requirement is to export the column to Excel with the numbers formatted as numbers and the strings such as "N/A' in the same column as string.
1. Flat File Source 2. Conditional Split, Case Good = !ISNULL(KEY) Case Error = ISNULL(KEY) 3. Case Good -> Writes to Good Flat File (with timestamp in the title) 4. Case Error -> Writes to Error Flat File (with timestamp in the title)
Most job runs have no errors but the error file is created as a zero byte file anyway. If there are no error records I don't want the error file created. How might I accomplish this?
I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.
I was wondering if it was possible to add an identity column to a flat file data source as it is being processed in a data flow. I need to know the record number of each row in the file. Can this be done with the derived column task or is it possible to return the value of row count on each row of the data?
Is it possable to have control which name the flatfile has? F.ex. have the same process created files with the name: filename_2008-01-01 filename_2008-01-02 filename_2008-01-03
I am transferring data from an OLEDB source to a Flat File Destination and I want the column width for all of the output columns to 30 (max width amongst the columns selected), but that is not refected in the Fixed Width Flat File that got created. The outputcolumnwidth seems to be the same as the inputcolumnwidth. Is there any other setting that I am possibly missing or is this a possible defect?
Similar to a previous post (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=244646&SiteID=1), I am trying to import data into a SQL Table.
I am trying to program a small application that will import product data obtained through suppliers via CD-ROM. One supplier in particular uses Fixed width colums, and data looks like this:
Example of Data
0124015Apple Crate 32.12
0124016Bananna Box 12.56
0124017Mango Carton 15.98
0124018Seedless Watermelon 42.98 My Table would then have: ProductID as int Name as text Cost as money
How would I go about extracting the data with an XML Format file? I am stumbling over how to tell it where to start picking up data for a specific column. Is there any way that I could trim the Name column (i.e.: "Mango Carton " --> "Mango Carton")?
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I've been calling SQL from my code by doing this:
Code in C# Form
SqlConnection SqlConnection = new SqlConnection(global::SQLClients.Properties.Settings.Default.ClientPhonebookConnectionString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();
SqlConnection.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); SqlConnection.Close(); RefreshData(); I am running Visual Studio C# Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005.
Hi,I am trying to use BULK INSERT with format file. All of our data hasfew bytes of header in the data file which I would like to skip beforedoing BULK INSERT.Is it possible to write format file to skip these few bytes ofheader before doing BULK INSERT? For example, I have a 1 GB data filewith 1000 byte header. Except for first 1000 bytes, rest of the data isgood for BULK INSERT.Thanks in advance. Sorry if it is really a dumb question as I am newto BULK INSERT and practicing still.Bob
Hi, I am exporting a table to an excel format. The package should change the name of the destination file everytime the package is executed(preceded by date). I need to deploy this urgently.
Hi, I am new to SQL Server. Trying to convert a pc sas program to a SQL Server 2000 DTS package. Need fixed format comma delimited destination text file from a DB2 data source. Problem: SQL wants to make financial field 19 bytes long but I want it to be 12. Tried casting as a DECIMAL(7,2) but SQL still wants it to be 19 bytes long. Tried converting to CHAR but then it is still left-justified. I need decimal to be in the third byte from the right. Is this possible?
