My users complain that they cant run a CLR function. I am told that it cant get access to the local file system. I do not how to code these so from SSIS is there any way to let the users gain access to this. If this is a permission issue what is the lease privilege that I can configure for this to work?
ok. Here we go again. they got my Servers built yesterday and here I am on a saturday doing the installs
I ran SQL SERVER 2005 Standard Edition Setup on my Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with SP2
it ran through and installed Client tools, BOL and such.. but did not install an actual Instance. I never got the Advanced button to choose which components to install. What did I do wrong????????
I need to install a Named Instance on Both Server.. one will be DEV one Production. help?
I want to install SQL Server SP2 on the cluster (Active-Passive). This is my production server. Can anyone tell me how much downtime is involved while installing SP2.
How does sp2 installation works on the cluster? Does it install on the primary node first and then on the secondary node (i.e one node at a time).
I I know during installation it restarts the sql server service. So while installing on 1st node, does it fail over to second node?
I will be installing SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition for the first time and was looking for some hints...
unfortuntely, I don't know alot about what kind of applications they will be using the databases for.. but I do know that I have 400GB to allocate. My manager suggested a seperate volume for the SQL Server Binaries.. not sure why... ANY OPINIONS ON THAT???
This is what he suggested C: OS D:SQL Server application install E:datafiles F:Logfile e:tempdb
any hints, suggestions, opinions, things to watch out for... ???????
I was thinking more along the lines of c:OS and application installs (sql server etc..) E:datafiles and TempDB F:Logsfiles
All software is installed on a single development pc. I have a SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition Database that I am using to test a new Accounting System. SQL Server 2000 is the required format. I would like to start developing some SRSS reports against that database. It was suggested that I install the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, because I was told 2005 is less buggy and easier to use. I installed SRSS 2005, and only SRSS 2005, and used the Configuration Tool to get it configured properly, I think. I have green checks on everything except "Email Settings" and "Execution Account"
Now, I want to write some reports. BIDS is not under the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" program group, only "Configuration Tools". I was also told that I could use Visual Studio to write reports. I installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition. When I go start a new project, "Business Intelligence€? is not a project type or sub-type.
What do I need to do so I can either install BIDS or use VS 2005 to write reports?
I've just spent the most frustrating 4 hours trying to install SP2.
I kept getting "unable to start SQL Server service....see BOL ...re starting the service manually" messages; with the only options being to Retry or Cancel. Retry resulted in the same message. Cancel resulted in all components except SQL (sqlexpress) being installed - therefore totally useless
No mater what I did i could start the SQLservice as it did'nt show in the list of Services; nor did the SQL EE programme show in the Add/Remove Programs...evenn though the other components did.
I deleted/removed everything that was istalled; cleaned up the Registry; and tried again...
..and again
..and again
FIVE install / re-install failures; numerous registry cleanups!!!!
I was at the point where it looked like i'd have to reformat my hard disk, and completely re-install XP, all aplications i.e. Office 2003 etc in order for the thing to work.
I gave it one more shot, but this time, during install
- selected all components except SDK
- I unchecked the Start SQL / BROWSER at startup
- Checked the Enable User Instances and Add to Administrators boxes
Lo and behold....it installed!!!
I'm still very worried as the registry is full of "duplicate" entries i.e. Blah blah blah and blah blah blah.1
But at least the thing is installed.
Would interested to hear if anyone has had similar or other problems with the SP2 install/upgrade

For info:
I ran the install as Administrator
IIS not installed
Win XP Sp2 fully updated

Hi All, I have a problem with the Club Starter kit that I downloaded from the SQL Server Express Site. I installed the VSI into VS2005 but when I try to save the project, VS puts up a dialog with "Unable to complete Operation." The project runs OK within VS but any changes I make are lost when the app closes because it won't save.
I know this does not appear to be a SQL Server Express problem but I'm wondering if anyone else has used the starter kit and experienced the same problem, and more importantly, how to fix it.
I am unable to create the personal.mdf when I run my homepage. I get the following error Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. I am new at this stuff and any help will be welcomee. . thanks Seth
I am trying to get Classifieds Starter Kit work in SQL Server 2005. I did following:
1. Create DBs; The sql scripts came with the starter kit in the App_Data folder. 2. To create aspnetdb: aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S localhost -A mr 3. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager. Select "SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration | Protocols for MSSQLSERVER" then enable the protocols 'TCP/IP' and possibly 'Named Pipes' 4. My connections string <add name="classifiedsConnection" connectionString="Data Source=MyServerName;;User ID=user;Password=pass;Initial Catalog=ClassAds" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I still get the following error when I debug the application: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
We have written various applications that have a connection table for managing users logins, we have a connect stored proc that inserts the SIPD and the login time from sysprocesses.
From time to time we clean up our connections table by queryng against the SPID and login_time in sysprocesses and clear it if these don't match. This has been fine for a few years, howver we have found recently with a client that with some SPID's in sysprocesses that SQL server is changing the login time, this is unexpected behaviour.
The client is using SQL server 2005 and this has caused us problems, we have worked around it for now but wondered if anyone new why on this particular setup why the login time would change even though they have not disconnected.
We have other clients using SQL 2005 but have never seen this issue before, I wondered if there was a setting we have not seen that can cause this.
But am getting the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I am able to connect OK in both Server Management Studio (Server Name: SCastle, Windons Authentication) and clicking Connect to Database in Server Manager in Visual Studio (Server Name: (local)).
Have I got the connection string wrong or do I need to set up additional permissions in the database?
When I registered SQL Server Express I received an e-mail back showing all of the resources available to get started. There were 6 Starter Kits available, Teacher, Colection Manager, Amazon Enabled Movie Collection, and three others. When I click on the links to download the Starter Kits, the link comes back as invalid. Can you provide the correct links to use to get the Starter Applications, or can you e-mail me code? Thanks for you attention to this matter. Charlie Cappello CIGNA
I am new to sql server express editions. starter kits and Sample applications link provided in the sites are not working. Can anyone provide me the alternate link where I can dwnld them from
I'm trying to practice with the website starter kits using Visual Studio 2005. But so far, I haven't been able to run the mentioned websites because the connection they use is against SQL Server Express...
I don't have SQL Server Express. Instead, what I have installed is SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.
I'm not even able to use the new APS.NET WeSAT application to administer the sites because allway get the "Time out" error.
Do any of you know how to resolve this whole situation?

I have an identical SQL database on two machines (my machine and a webserver) that links to a database on a third server (S3). When I executea stored procedure on my machine that accesses a database on S3, italways runs without a problem. However, when I run the same storedprocedure on the webserver (via Query Analyzer on my machine, connectedto the webserver), the stored procedure runs without a problem forabout ten minutes, and then I suddenly receive the error "Login failedfor user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Serverconnection.". If I then connect remotely to the webserver via RemoteDesktop Connection and run the stored procedure there it works, andthen I can run it again on the webserver via Query Analyzer on mymachine, but the same problem will occur again after about ten minutes. The only difference between my machine and the webserver is that thewebserver is running Windows Server 2003, whereas my machine runsWindows XP. All settings in SQL on the two machines are identical, so Iwould love to know if anyone has a possible solution to this seeminglyrandom problem.
SQL server job or SP to deny access to an AD login for certain period of time to SQL server instance...i.e. to deny access to login ADxyz from 12 PM to 10 PM and revoke access to same login at 10:01 PM...
How to find last login date/time for user DML acitivity on databases on Instance?
Is there any way we can find our the last login date/time for databases?
Note: 1. We can find if the SQL Trace is running and store. This is not good solution         2. Audit logins off/on is also not good solution.        3. Using DMV's also not good option, if reboot sql server instance then historical values can not see.
Hi, Im getting this error when attempting to retrieve data from an sql database.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command. Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. Many thanxs.
I am using the MSDE to connect to my ASP.NET application. I get this error after clicking the login button of my login page. Anyone know why this would happen?
Thanks for any help,
Cannot open database requested in login 'DataSQL'. Login fails. Login failed for user 'serverASPNET'.
Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.
hi, so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them: "Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'" Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error. I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed' This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)
