In my table I am using varchar to save a date like this 2-dec-2011. Now I have a requirement where i need to select employee who where present in a month so for that I need a query so that i can pull out all the employees who are present in dec like :
Code:
select * from emp_attendence where date = 'dec-2011'
But this returns nothing ...
I have a doubt ,while doing report, I have month column, I have passed 11 in month parameter, but I want to display month column as NOV not 11.

Year Month Productname
2013 11 ACB

I would now like to add another column called date and store these Year Month as a date to my existing table
Year Month ProductName Date

Is there a way I can do it for all the columns of the existing table ??
I am having a problem while converting datetime to varchar with code 106. Here is the code and result I get:
TSQL Code:
SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), GETDATE(), 106)
Result:
"26 10 2007"
My expected result:
"26 Oct 2007" or "26 October 2007"
Have you encountered this problem before? Is it related to the SQL server setting? Please help and thank you in advance.
Hi,
I try to create a string that represant a insert statement but I've some problems to concat :
Set @Insert = 'INSERT INTO DEMANDES VALUES (' + @AvionID + ',' + @DemandeID + ',' + @Consommation + ',' + @Vitesse + ',' + @TailleReservoire + ',''' + @PlageHoraireDebut +''','''+ @PLageHoraireFin+''','''+ @VilleDepart+''',''' +@VilleDestination+''');';
AvionID is a int
DemandeID too
Consommation too
Vitesse too,
TailleReservoire too,
PlageHoraire varchar and ville too.
Can you explain me how to concat these strings?
Thanks for your help!
Hi all,
I wonder if it is possible to use case sensitive varchar comparsion in a query?
As I have tried and the varchar comparsion is non-case sensitive.
Thanks

We have an in-house set of databases created by a member of staff who left the organisation in circumstances that mean he will not respond to queries relating to his work here. The programs he produced whilst in our employ are compiled and we have no access to the code, or the tools that he used (don't ask).
The programs allow the user to limit views based on various fields, but not the most useful field, a "memo" type field containing a textual description of work requests.
I only have Delphi 7 to use for the program development and have been using ADO, but my problem is I need to perform a case-insensitive search of a varchar(max) column based on text entered by user, but have been unsuccessful using LIKE and UPPER (which it appears you cannot use with a varchar).
Can anyone provide suggestions for what I am sure is a rather mundane and easy task for all of you.
Please note that I have only the Delphi, and no direct access to the SQL management tools.
Many thanks
Rob
how SQL 2012 would treat a literal string for a comparison similar to below. I want to ensure that the server isn't implicitly converting the value as it runs the SQL, so I'd rather change the data type in one of my tables, as unicode isn't required.
Declare @T Table (S varchar(2))
Declare @S nvarchar(255)
Insert into @T
Values ('AR'), ('AT'), ('AW')
Set @S = 'Auto Repairs'
Select *
from @T T
where case @S when 'Auto Repairs' then 'AR'
when 'Auto Target' then 'AT'
when 'Auto Wash' then 'AW' end = T.STo summarise
in the above would AR, AT and AW in the case statement be treated as a nvarchar, as that's the field the case is wrapped around, or would it be treated as a varchar, as that's what I'm comparing it to.
Hello what I'd like to display the following in a matrix report:
Parameter selected: 3 (March), 2008 (Year)
Monthly TO Summed up
ArtNo March <=March
1210 20,500 50,900
1220 21,200 64,000
1230 15,400 40,300
... ... ...
So, in the rows I have the articles and in the column the selected month via parameter. In another column I need to sum up all monthly values up to the selected month, meaning in this example the sum of jan, feb and mar per article.
following table global_usage
ID varchar (contains alphanumeric values,not unique)
Territory (combined with ID unique)
Total_Used int can be null
Date_ date (date of the import of the data)

ACASC CAL071287 2014-08-01
ACASC CAL071288 2014-09-01

Now the problem,per month I need the most recent value so I'm expecting
ACASC CAL071287 2014-06-01
ACASC CAL071287 2014-08-01
ACASC CAL071288 2014-09-01

I did something similar doing just record counts but this is far more complicated. I'm at a loss that this is even possible.
SUM(CASE datepart(month, tbFile.openedDate) WHEN 1 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS 'January',
I have looked far and wide and have not found anything that works to allow me to resolve this issue.

Any suggestions on how I can get the large string data in the varchar column in DB2 into the varchar(max) column in SQL Server 2005?
I am trying to create a store procedure inside of SQL Management Studio console and I kept getting errors. Here's my store procedure.

ELSE
SELECT * FROM [Outlook]
WHERE [Outlook].[contents] LIKE + ''%'' + @searchString + ''%''
END
And the error I kept getting is:
Msg 402, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sqlOutlookSearch, Line 18
The data types varchar and varchar are incompatible in the modulo operator.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why SSIS will not convert varchar data. instead of using the table to table method, I wrote a SQL query so that I could transform the datatype ntext to varchar 512 understanding that natively MS is going towards all Unicode applications.
The source fields from Access are int, int, int and varchar(512). The same is true of the destination within SQL Server 2005. the field 'Answer' is the varchar field in question....
I get the following error

DTS used to be a very strong tool but a simple import such as this is causing me extreme grief and wondering of SQL2005 is ready for primetime. FYI SP1 is installed. I am running this from a workstation and not on the server if that makes a difference...

Does anyone know how I can get last day of month
if I pass a function a given month and and given year.
@Month = 2
@Year = 2004
The result I would need is 29 because there are 29 in
the month of February in the 2004.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

I have a table that contains a lot of demographic information. The data is usually small (<20 chars) but ocassionally needs to handle large values (250 chars). Right now its set up for varchar(max) and I don't think I want to do this.
How does varchar(max) store info differently from varchar(250)? Either way doesn't it have to hold the container information? So the word "Crackers" have 8 characters to it and information sayings its 8 characters long in both cases. This meaning its taking up same amount of space?
Also my concern will be running queries off of it, does a varchar(max) choke up queries because the fields cannot be properly analyzed? Is varchar(250) any better?
Should I just go with char(250) and watch my db size explode?
Usually the data that is 250 characters contain a lot of blank space that is removed using a SPROC so its not usually 250 characters for long.
Any insight to this would be appreciated.
How can I change my T-SQL text editor from text sensitive to text insensitive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHello:
I have created an SQL server table in the past on a server that was all case sensative. Over time I found out that switching to a server that is not case sensative still caused my data to become case sensative. I read an article that said you should rebuild your master database then re-create your tables. So after rebuilding the master database, a basic restore would not be sufficient? I would have to go and manually re-create every single table again?
Any suggestions?
Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to search against a SQL Server 2000 using a case insensitive search when SQL Server 2000 is a case sensitive installation?
thanks in advance.
We need to install CI database on CS server, and there are some issueswith stored procedures.Database works and have CI collation (Polish_CI_AS). Server hascoresponding CS collation (Polish_CS_AS). Most queries and proceduresworks but some does not :-(We have table Customer which contains field CustomerID.Query "SELECT CUSTOMERID FROM CUSTOMER" works OK regardless ofcharacter case (we have table Customer not CUSTOMER)Following TSQL generate error message that must declare variable @id(in lowercase)DECLARE @ID INT (here @ID in uppercase)SELECT @id=CustomerID FROM Customer WHERE .... (here @id in lowercase)I know @ID is not equal to @id in CS, but database is CI and tablenames Customer and CUSTOMER both works. This does not work forvariables.I suppose it is tempdb collation problem (CS like a server collationis). I tried a property "Identifier Case Sensitivity" for myconnection, but it is read only and have value 8 (Mixed) by default -this is OK I think.DO I MISS SOMETHING ????

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a view where I'm using a series of conditions within a CASE statement to determine a numeric shipment status for a given row. In addition, I need to bring back the corresponding status text for that shipment status code.
Previously, I had been duplicating the CASE logic for both columns, like so:
Code Block...beginning of SQL view...
shipment_status =
CASE
[logic for condition 1]
THEN 1
WHEN [logic for condition 2]
THEN 2
WHEN [logic for condition 3]
THEN 3
WHEN [logic for condition 4]
THEN 4
ELSE 0
END,
shipment_status_text =
CASE
[logic for condition 1]
THEN 'Condition 1 text'
WHEN [logic for condition 2]
THEN 'Condition 2 text'
WHEN [logic for condition 3]
THEN 'Condition 3 text'
WHEN [logic for condition 4]
THEN 'Condition 4 text'
ELSE 'Error'
END,
...remainder of SQL view...
This works, but the logic for each of the case conditions is rather long. I'd like to move away from this for easier code management, plus I imagine that this isn't the best performance-wise.
This is what I'd like to do:
Code Block
...beginning of SQL view...
shipment_status =
CASE
[logic for condition 1]
THEN 1
WHEN [logic for condition 2]
THEN 2
WHEN [logic for condition 3]
THEN 3
WHEN [logic for condition 4]
THEN 4
ELSE 0
END,
shipment_status_text =
CASE shipment_status
WHEN 1 THEN 'Condition 1 text'
WHEN 2 THEN 'Condition 2 text'
WHEN 3 THEN 'Condition 3 text'
WHEN 4 THEN 'Condition 4 text'
ELSE 'Error'
END,
...remainder of SQL view...
This runs as a query, however all of the rows now should "Error" as the value for shipment_status_text.
Is what I'm trying to do even currently possible in T-SQL? If not, do you have any other suggestions for how I can accomplish the same result?
Thanks,
Jason
Hi I trying to find a way to determine the number of working days per month starting from the current date to the last day of the current month.And within the same store procedure determine the number of working days as normal (each month is independent from the next). For example: The store procedure is executed
September:
@CurrentDate = 9/10/2007
@EndDate = last working day 9/30/2007
Total# of working days = 15
October:
@CurrentDate = 10/1/2007
@EndDate = last working day 10/31/2007
Total# of working days = 23
November:
@CurrentDate = 11/1/2007
@EndDate = last working day 11/30/2007
Total# of working days = 22
etc.
Any ideas of how i can approch this?
Thanks in advance.

I am working on a C#/asp.net web application. The application has a text box that allows a user to enter a name. The name is then saved to the database.
Before the name is saved to the database, I need to be able to check if the name already exists in the database. The problem here is that what if the name is in the database as "JoE ScMedLap" and somoene enters the name as "Joe Schmedlap" which already exists in the database,but just differs in case.
In other words how do deal with case sensitiviy issues.
