View 5 RepliesHi there.
I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).
I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.
The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?
Please advise. Thanks.
Best.

Hi,
I have a table where this one column(varchar) has rows of data with a period at the end of the string. Is there any function I could use to remove all the periods?
For eg:
bhjio.
shtpl.
should become:
bhjio
shtpl
Thanks
I have a string like aaannbbghtgggbbaa, I want a query to get count of characters in string like :

Hi
Is there any function to seperate a sting (VARCHAR) into two based on a character in the string (e.g. '-').
In short is there "InStr" or "split" type function in T-SQL ? If not what is the alternative?
I have a column called "Range" (VarChar) in the table which has ranges like 1-14 or 15-49 etc.
I need to select records by compare a variable (numeric) against these ranges.
So for instace if the variable has 15 its in range 15-49.
I was thinking of spliting the range field into two so that comparison is possible.
Any suggestions?
thanks
I have used a query statement with the following WHERE string to 'Fill' a dataset.
"AND (A.ApptsDate > '" & strApptPreDate & "' OR (A.ApptsDate = '" & strApptPreDate & "' AND A.ApptsTime >= '" & strApptPreTime & "' ))" & _ and strApptPreTime is defined as:Dim strApptPreTime As String = SomaShared.strPadTime(CStr(dApptCalcNewDate.Hour) + ":" + CStr(dApptCalcNewDate.Minute))
Somehow, the dataset showed only the ApptsTime after 10 am. After more than 2 weeks of debugging, I still can see a dataset watch for > 10 amAppsTime only. Now I am guessting, the problem is 9 is different from 10 - 16, it all because 9 is single digit. Then I check the data type settings for these variables. Here are what I found:
In SQL Server Agent job, the ApptsTime data was 'inserted' by @NewApptTimes, which is declared as char(5).In SQL Server database, the ApptsTime was defined as nvarchar(15).
My question are: 1. The reason why there were no 9 am data for the dataset, is becasue 9 am of nvarchar(15) is not > 8:30 of strApptPreTime? 2. If the answer to the quation 1 is yes, how do I define AppsTime and/or strApptPreTime?
TIA,Jeffrey
I've been trying to return hex data in a way that can be concatenated.
I need the actual hex info (e.g. 0x6E3C070) as displayed
since it contains info about the path to a file.
So I can turn it into D:6E3C 7 to get the path to the file.
In searching around I have come across a way to do this but can't figure out how to get it to run through a column and either display or insert into a table multiple results.
-Here's the user function that converts an integer into a hex string-
CREATE FUNCTION udf_hex_string (@i int)
RETURNS varchar(30) AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @vb varbinary(8)
SET @vb = CONVERT(varbinary(8),@i)
DECLARE @hx varchar(30)
EXEC master..xp_varbintohexstr @vb, @hx OUT
RETURN @hx
END
GO
-Using this table-
create table
XPages
(PageStoreId int null,
HexString varchar (30) null,
VolumePath varchar (60) null, )
--'PageStoreId' contains the data that needs to be converted into the editable hex string
--'HexString' is where I'd like it to go so I can parse it later.
--I can run the below select and get the hex string. But am stuck on how to run a select or update that would run through the 'XPages.PagestoreId'
column and insert the hex string into the 'XPages.Hexstring' column. 'XPages.PagestoreId' could have 100's of entries that need to be converted and placed in the relevant the 'XPages.Hexstring' column.
SELECT dbo.udf_hex_string(1234)
Thanks

Hi Everyone-
i woder if someone know Built in function to search the occurence of char in string in T-SQL
and iam not talking about the Index of the first occurence (e.g CHARINDEX )
but it is more generic
i want to send to the function to ask about the index the second or the third or N occurence of the char.
and i wonder if it is built in for performance reasons
example
getseachIndex("M|d|d","|",2)==> the result is 4
Hi
Is it possible to have SQL Server recognize the following character field as a date using convert or cast (or anything else):
2001-03-25-02.27.55.365252
so that I can do date comparisons such as
select * from table where [char in above format] < getdate()
declare @new table(
id int not null identity(1,1),
dat char(10))

Hi,
What is the difference updating a null value to char/varchar type column
versus empty string to char/varchar type column?Which is the best to do and why?
Could anyone explain about this?
Example:
Table 1 : tCountry - Name varchar(80) nullable
Table 2 :tState - Name char(2) nullable
Table 3 :tCountryDetails - countryid, state (char(2) nullable) - May the country contain state or no state
So,when the state is not present for the country ,i have two options may be - null,''
tCountryDetails.State = '' or tCountryDetails.State = null?
Is there a way to extract the date part (11/27/2012) of a datetime/time stamp column (11/27/2012 00:00:00.000) and keep it in a date format?
The code i have below extracts the date part of a timestamp column and converts it to a char field. This becomes a problem when I joing the resultant table with a SAS dataset which contains the same column but is in a date format. The join process generates an error saying the column is in different formats.
convert(char(15), process_date,112) as process_dt
Is there a SQL command that will change a Date&Time string to just a Date?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the following
Column Name : [Converted Date]
Data Type : varchar(50)
When I try and do month around the [Converted Date] I get the following error message
“Msg 241, Level 16, State 1, Line 2

My Query is
SELECT
month([Created Date])
FROM [FDMS_PartnerReporting].[Staging].[Salesforce_MarketingReporting]
SELECT * ,[Due]

Where Due >= getdate() +90
This returns the error: Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string
Why would this be? How to cast or convert this so that it will work?
Using DTS package in 2000 version, I am dumping TXT file contents into SQL Table,
I have one column having date in format YYYYMMDD(20070929) and corresponding column in SQL is datetime, but it fails on data type mismatch.
I have no choice of making date column in SQL to string or Varchar etc,
is there any way to make that date column in SQL to convert the value upon transformation from format (YYYYMMDD) to M/DD/YYYY (9/29/2007).
many many thanks,
I asked this question below, but the answer was that the conversion will take place automatically, but I can't get that to happen. I have a flat file with an 8 position field that I identify as string (and I also tried date) that is yyyymmdd and it needs to go into the database field that is datetime format. IS there something I am doing wrong with the definition of it, or do I need to add some kind of conversion, and if so, what and how would that be done. I'm a dts Sql2000 expert, but the SSIS thing is driving me crazy. I have a ton of dts' to convert and the migration tool doesn't work because there are a lot of active X scripts in them. thanks for your help. Boston Rose
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I Have this simple convertion in a Script component
Dts.Variables("dateOfProcess").Value = CDate(lineMCF.Substring(30, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(28, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(24, 4))
this works fin in my development environment which has a spanish version of SQL Server and uses "DD/MM/YYYY" as date format.
but the production environment has an english version of SQL Server and "MM/DD/YYYY" date format, so the package crashes in this server.
How do I convert the string to date not depending on the SQL server language.
thanks.
Hi,
I have a string like (Mike,David,John...). How can I change this string into a proper syntax of
('Mike','David','John'...) so that I can use it in an "IN" statement some where else.
Select * from TableName where Customer_Name In ('Mike','david','john',...)
Any function? Any Idea?
Thanks
I have a table in which a date value is stored as varchar.some of these values are stored ina dd/mm/yyyy format and other values are stored in a yyyy-mm-dd format..Now I wish to retrieve some data by querying between two dates. However I need to convert the varchar date value to datetime in order to do this but since the date value is in two different formats, the following doesn't work.
select date_value
from my_table
where CONVERT(DATETIME, date_value, 103) between @date1 and @date2
How can you convert the date value to datetime when its stored in mutiple formats. I can't change the table itself as I dont have admin privelages.
We got data from a dns server that looks like:
some columns.... |121.12.250.2.somestring......|
The ip address should look like 2.250.12.121:
We could use charindex, substring and len to cut the 4 parts of the ip and rebuild it in the right format.
Starts with
SELECT
CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn)
,LEFT(mycolumn, CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn) - 1) as part_four_of_ip
,CHARINDEX('.', SUBSTRING(mycolumn,CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn) - 1),len(mycolumn)
as position_of_second_dot
........ and so on.....
This will cause an awful long code. How to shorten that code?
I have a SSIS Package which I developed on my own my database server.
But now the package is to deployed on 3-4 different computers pointing it to different databases.
I do not want to change the connection string for each and every instance because in future there may be more number of instances running.I tried using the Configuration file and add that file in to the configuration window but that also did not work. Please can anybody help me?
Hi,
I am looking to dynamically change the connection string in my SSIS package, to avoid changing the connection string each time I want to run in different environments.
Thanks in advance
I've recently uploaded my website, http://www.bigredsongbus.com, to my host. Unfortunately, they don't support the use of SQL Server Express. So, I've purchased an addon through my host - discountasp.net. I've attached my database file to their server, now all that I need to do is to change the connection string in my .config file so that it points to the SQL Server. I don't know how to do this. Any help, please?Jeffrey Way

I have a query which runs exactly as I want it to. Let's say it returns this in a table:
IDNumber
123
212
312
I want to change (find and replace?) all the number 12s in the 'Number' column for a string. I want to change the 12s to the word: HelloWorld. I don't want to update the table, merely the table that is being returned in the query.
HiWhen we installed SqlServer2000 we left the default collation name(Sql_Latin1_General_CPI_CI_AS).The user defined databases we created afterwards were defined with adifferent collation name in order to be able to accept the character setwe use, Hebrew. We are looking into switching DTSs that we use to copy data from ourmain system , that uses an Ingres database, into OSQL scripts. Althoughthe DTSs successfully copy the Hebrew letters when I copy data with OSQLit comes over as jibberish. After looking into the matter I came to the conclusion that while DTSrefers to specific databases and uses the destination database'scollation name , OSQL refers to the remote server and destination serverand therefore uses the collation name of the server and not of thedatabase. In order for it to successfully copy the Hebrew I need tochange the default collation name of the installation. Is "rebuild master" the way to do such a thing ? (this is a productionserver so we are wary of doing a "rebuild master")Has anyone else run into similar problems when transfering data betweenservers using OSQL ?ThanksDavid Greenberg
