Data Access :: MS Access ADODB Connection To Stored Procedure - Cannot Retrieve Data

Sep 22, 2015

I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend.  As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code.  My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus). It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code. The Stored procedure is:-

USE [VMSProd]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

How Do I Change The SQL Server For Access ADP?

Jul 23, 2005

I have MS SQL Server 2000 evaluation version on my desktop PC. I havethe SQL Server client tools (only) on the laptop. The two computers arenetworked. I had an Access MDB database on my laptop, but I convertedit with the Access upsizing wizard to an Access ADP database with theAccess front-end on the laptop connecting to the SQL Server on thedesktop. Now I want to move from this test environment to the "real"server. How do I go about this? Do I make the change from the laptop orthe desktop? Do I use the Access drop-down menu, Tools > DatabaseUtilities > Transfer Database? Or maybe from the desktop with: SQLServer Enterprise Manager > Copy Database Wizard?

Data Access :: Management Studio To Access Data On Laptop?

Jun 30, 2015

I have a client who has SSMS installed on her laptop.  She is able to connect to the SQL server via SSMS in the office and query data on the server.

She needs to be out of site often and doesn't have internet access.  She asks if the data tables can be "backed up" or saved on her laptop, so she can look at them without worrying connecting to the server.  I am not sure if this can be achieved, as SSMS is built for accessing a server, not a desktop.  Myself never have this need.  If I really need it, I would go to Microsoft Access and create an ODBC connection to the datatables. But this client thinks that Microsoft Access is beneath her.

Error Message Given Using Access 2003 Adp File To Change A Stored Procedure

Sep 17, 2007

The following error message is displayed when trying to modify a stored procedure.

This version of Microsoft Access doesn't support design changes to the
version of Microsoft SQL Server your project is connected to. See the
Microsoft Office Update Web site for the latest information and downloads
(on the Help menu, click Office on the Web). Your design changes will not be
saved.

However, if you save, close and re-open the stored procedure having made the required changes, the changes have been saved.

Is there any way to suppress the error message / hotfix available from microsoft since the error message appears to be completely erroneous ?

Have I provided enough detail as this is my first post ?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Change Data Capture(CDC) For Data Warehouse / Reporting?

Aug 12, 2015

I have a requirement to implement CDC for 50+ tables to implement incremental data changes warehouse/reporting rather than exporting the whole table data. The largest table is having more than half a billion records.

The warehouse use a daily copy of OLTP db (daily DB refresh). How can I accomplish this. Is there a downside in implementing CDC just for the sake of taking incremental changes on the tables?

Is there any performance impact if we enable CDC on OLTP db?

Can we make use of the CDC tables on the environment we do daily db refresh so that the queries don't hit OLTP database?

What is the best way to implement CDC to take incremental changes for reporting.

SQL Security :: Making Data Change In Read Only Database Without Letting Other Users Update Data

Aug 6, 2015

I want to make data changes in read_only database , that's why i must set database read_write. While database is at read_write mode, i want to be sure that no one makes change in database.

For this aim, i write the code below, but i suspect that after setting the database read_write, till the setting database
single_user ,is it possible get DML script from another user. Is the code below enough for this operation. Or is there another way?

Reminding: Read_only database can not be set single_user mode. That's why, first you must set database read_write.

The code;

use master
alter database xxx set read_write
with rollback immediate
alter database xxx set single_user
with rollback immediate

use xxx
update  tablexxx set columnxxx=yyy
use master
alter database xxx set read_only
with rollback immediate
alter database xxx set multi_user

SQL 2012 :: CDC (Change Data Capture) Is Not Capturing Data Correctly

Apr 21, 2014

I am using SQL Server 2012 and to me a part of data captured by CDC is not making sense.

I have a table called 'Schema.Table1', and I enabled CDC on it by running 'sys.sp_cdc_enable_table'. I see that a table called 'cdc.Schema_Table1_CT' got created which now gets an entry when ever I Insert, Update or delete a record in the original table.

Till this point every thing works fine.

My original Table has a NOT NULL INT column called 'AuditTrackerUserID' with a default value of 1996. My application does not provides a value for this column, but because the column itself has a default value, records get inserted without error.

When I try to execute the following Query I see multiple records with __$operation of 3 and 1.

SELECT * from cdc.Schema_Table1_CT where AuditTrackerUserID IS NULL

My expectation is that I should not ever see any record returned by this query because AuditTrackerUserID is a not null column, but I do.

Data Access :: Server Rejected The Connection - Access To Selected Database Has Been Denied

But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013.  The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.

I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

Data Access :: Insert Rows To MS Access 2013 Without Listing Column Names

Nov 12, 2015

We need to insert data/rows from a SQL Server 2014 database into MS Access database.  The problem is, there are so many columns (100+) in the table and there are so many insert transactions of this kind (from different tables) that it is not very easy to write the code in VB.NET that lists all column names.

Both the Access and SQL Server tables have the same number of columns and the equivalent data types, so inserting is not really the problem.  It's just that is there a way to do an insert statement in T-SQL that does not name all the columns?

Multi-user Access Through A Data-access Layer/remoting Server

Oct 30, 2007

Hi guys,

I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time.
I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:

- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server.
Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines??
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE

- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server?
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE

Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways

Thanks,
CP

Change One Data To Another

Oct 18, 2007

Maybe a strange query here for you guys but I would like to create a database where a user enters a code then they are transferred to another code - some explanantion:

SCD = Sony CD - expensive stuff
PCD = Phillips CD - expensive stuff
CCD = Cheap CD - cheaper stuff

User enters SCD then automatically the database would change SCD to CCD but it can also be that the user enters PCD and the database would change PCD to CCD. So when looking at the results for this table i would have 2 entries for CCD and also another 2 to say the user entered SCD and PCD. - hopefully that makes sense.

I need to know and understand how i should design the database to accomplish this so i can avoid any "gotcha" mistakes. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Can't Change Data Structure

Nov 14, 2014

I have a database (MSSQL). To demonstrate the problem let me show a fictive Tablestructure. I don't want to discuss about how to save the data differntly, because the structure is fix and I can't change it.To get this result I would do a sql query with a lot of joins like that:

SELECT firstname, lastname, email.value, phone.value
FROM Customer
INNER JOIN
(
SELECT Customer_Properties.id, Customer_Properties.value
FROM Customer_Properties

[code]...

I don't think that this is really performant and the SQL-Queries get very complicated. Give it a other methode for that? I can't change the data structure.

Change Data Capture

Jan 13, 2006

Again, looking for the best way to do this with SSIS.

I have a source table and I'd like to load it to a database daily, capturing what changed.

This is not a dimentional table but a fact table.

So, what I;d need to do for each record is to see if the record already exists (using business key) and if it does - compare some of the data fields and of there are changes - register it somehow and if not changes ignore.

Right now, the only two ways I see to do it with SSIS:

- Use Slowly Chaging Dimentions transformation

- Use Lookup and customize SQL, adding something like: WHERE key = ? and (field1 <> ? or field2 <> ?...)

I was wondering of there an easy way.
