Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))
Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"
„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')
and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!
Hello, is it possible to have both sql server 2000 and sql server express 2005 installed at the same box?
I currently have sql2000 installed its used for an application. But I want to install visual studio 2005 and with this sql server express 2005 also is being installed ( if you want to) now I wonder if this is possible, that is is it possible to both run sql server 2000 and sql server express at the same time on the same box?
Thanks
Lars
I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."
My upgrade of SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 is being blocked as follows:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding
FTCATALOGPATH
DEPRECATEDSP
FTCATALOGNAMERESTRICTION

Many thanks

Recently moved a SQL2000 database to SQL2005.
Collation on SQL 2000 database server was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
Colaltion on SQL 2005 database server is Latin1_General_CI_AS
After restoring the SQL 2000 database on SQL 2005 we observed that the database collation was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. We have altered the database collation to Latin1_General_CI_AS. We understand this will work for all new objects created on the database but existing objects (prior to the collation change) will continue to have the 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS' collation.
What is the best method to change the collation of the older columns to 'Latin1_General_CI_AS' -
1) Run ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN <colname> <datatype> COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS <nullability>
on each varchar/char column
or
2) For each table
BCP out data
DROP TABLE
RECREATE TABLE (taking the new collation Latin1_General_CI_AS)
BCP in data
3) Other methods?
Thanks in advance
David.
Hi all,
We do our development in SQLServer 2005. We want to backup and restore our database into the client's side who use SQLServer 2000. Backup and restore cannot work. We try to script the database in 2005 and change the option script to 2000. This fails also. What other option I can use?

Thanks in advance. What is maximum SQL Server database (*.mdf) file size with SQL Server 2000 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000? (Database files were limited to 10 GB in SBS 4.5 with SQLServer 7.0... has this changed?).

Hello people.
I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
I am aware of KB 906954.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;906954
I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
Can someone help me find a solution to this?
A stored procedure takes an IN parameter, an INOUT parameter, and returns an OUT parameter. When this stored procedure is defined in SQL Server 2000, the JDBC DatabaseMetadata method getProcedureColumns() returns three rows in the resultset:
one for the IN parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=1)
one for the INOUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=2), and
one for OUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=5).However, when the same stored procedure is defined in SQL Server 2005 (SP2), the getProcedureColumns() method returns only two rows in the resultset:
one for the IN parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=1)
one for the INOUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=2).No row for the OUT parameter is returned.
jTDS JDBC driver was used for both of the above tests. When the Microsoft JDBC Driver for 2005 was used against SQL Server 2005, the same behavior (only two rows in the resultset) was observed.
Has someone else run into such a problem? Is this a bug in SQL Server 2005 because the same jTDS driver works as expected against SQL Server 2000 but not against SQL Server 2005? Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
I have many sql 2000 DTS packages that I support from my development workstation running v2000 sp4. Packages are altered on the development machine and then go through a normal release mechanisms to production via testing servers etc.
I have recently installed the client tools for SQL Server 2005 on my desktop to evaluate the product. The 2005 DB instance is running on a seperate server.
So, I have dev edition of sql 2000 and 2005 client tools (including BI Dev studio etc) on my workstation.
I have recently had to make changes to a 2000 DTS package and used my 2000 enterprise manager to do so. No Problem- saved and tested fine on my workstation.
But when I try and release it to another server, or open the package using enterprise manager from another machine that does not have sql 2005 installed - I get an error message 'Unspecified error'. This I've seen before when trying to open packages created in v2000 , using v7 or where the service packs are different between machines.
Digging around my workstation and comparing some of the DLLs I know to be required to distribute DTS packages (from RDIST.txt) it seems that some of the SQL 2000 dll files have been updated by my 2005 installation.
E.g
DTSFFILE.DLL on my machine is 2000.85.1054.0 whilst on any 'clean' 2000 machine is at version v2000.80.760.0
Surely it cant be right that SQL 2005 has newer versions of components for SQL 2000 than is available with the latest SP for the actual product! Especially considering that the installation of 2005 does not even allow you to edit 2000 DTS packages through the management studio without a 'special' download' of the feature pack,(whihc by the way does not work very well either)
So am I to conclude that you can not run side by side installations of SQL 2000 and 2005 on a single machine and expect 2000 to run as it did previously !!!
Hi Everybody!!!!
Do I need to consider investing in new and more powerful hardware when migrating from SQL 2000 (or any other previous version) to SQL 2005?
I have a friend / client who migrated from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 sp 1. The performance of the server got really bad, and now he's trying to fix the problem by any means necesary.
I think it would be very understandable if investing in hardware would be recommended, as we all have seen that there are so many new platforms to use and integrate to (.NET framework, XML, soap, ADO.NET, etc, etc,) and keeping the old platforms as compatible as always (ADODB, ODBC, etc.)
Any feedback is greatelly appreciated!!!!

Apparently you cannot go backwards. Once 2005 Express is installed, even removing it does not allow you to setup MSDE 2000 again. So there is no "trying it out" option.
Unfortunately, our software does not use 2005 Express. I tried it out, and now have a useless testing workstation that can't have MSDE 2000 installed again.
Any ideas on how to break the chain here are welcome.
I need to change the name of the SQL Server on my development machine. Myclient's server name is "Server1". My development server name is"MachineName1ServerTest".I am writing a Visual Basic application. Everything is working great on mydevelopment system, but I have to go in a change the connection strings. Each time I change one, it takes about a couple minutes for the prompt tocome back saying it timed out trying to find the server. I want to renamemy server to be the same as my client's server so I won't have this time outannoyance in my development environment.I did a sp_dropserver and sp_addserver, but that does not change the machinename of the server. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi
We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.
If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?
Please help us.

Hi,
One of our main servers running on SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition which has transactional replications on it which replicates to other servers running on the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition as well.
Due to Hardware problems the server is being migrated to a new machine but the client has installed SQL Server 2000 standard edition on the new machine.
We will be using a two processor cpu with 4GB RAM and we are also not planning about clustering. Is there any problem if i migrate the server in Standard Edition will the replications work properly between Standard and Enterprise editions.
What other complications can be there if i switch over to standard edition from enterprise edition
Thanks in ADVANCE
