i have installed mssql2k in win2000 server. since it was for my personal use, i did not give a password for the 'administrator' user in win2k. later on i cahnged the admin password, but my sqlserver did not start due to login failure.
Hello! We are running MS SQLServer 7.0 with ASP on Win 2k Server.Today suddenly the Web server couldn't connect to the DB Serverbecause the password for sa was wrong. We found out that the password was changed. Is it some kind of hacking thing or just normal password expiration? The same thing happended several month ago.Thanks.Sam
I am trying to adapt a vb6 application to support sqls 2005 features. I am using SQL Server Authentication and want to support the feature which forces the user to change his password on the next login. Using an SQLOLEDB connection string, on trying to log I get an error saying that the password must be changed - fair enough - but how can I do this? I would have expected to be able to supply both old and new passwords in the connection string, but there does not seem to be any such feature. Am I missing something obvious?
Couldn't able to login with sa account, seems someone having admin account have changed this sa password. Is there any way to determine who and when have changed this password. It is known that SQL can't log this information in its log, is there any other ways.
Dear AllI have a problem ,as i created the new user itspassword became changed.I logon SQL Server as[color=blue][color=green]>> Server Name: localhost>> Server option : window athentication[/color][/color]then i created a new user[color=blue][color=green]>>user name = test>>password = 123[/color][/color]then,i refreshes the serveras i click on the test userits password become too long as ************what is the reason
I changed the login password on my computer today, and now I cannot connect to the SQL Server instance I have on that same machine. I am using Windows Authentication. I would think that, if I can log on to my computer, I would be able to connect to the database, since I have been "authenticated" by windows but, that does not appear to be the case. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I just installed VS.NET 2005 on my computer and along the way SQL Server Express edition got installed too. What is the default sa password right out of the box? I actually want to use Windows authentication but was not able to set my domain account in there w/ administrative rights. I'd appreciate some help here.
If someone can tell if it is wise change the SA account password after all of your databases have been set up using NT Authentication for login. Also, by using the sa password at login are you providing more security and and who should have access to that password (Your developers or your Administrators?)
Hi there, i have a test sql server. personal Edition Sp2. i loggoed on with a domain account that is part of local admin group. i was surprised when i found that i don't have enough access to work on the database like create and restore databases i tried to log on with sa but password not succeeded i don't remember that i had changed the password or put a difficult one. i also tried from the local administrator i also couldn't get the permission !! what could gone wrong ? thanks god its only a test server :S
I have a reporting server that needs to be utilized now but the person that set it up is no longer with the company. We have no idea what login he used to install the server and nobody was granted admin rights to the server. is there anything we can do to give someone admin access without having to reinstall (I don't think that is an option)??
I am using SQL server 7, all service packs. We recently changed the NT Administrator password because of staffing changes. After doing so, I have 2 scheduled DTS job that are failing with an "unspecified error" -2147008507 (80074005). All other scheduled DTS packages succeed (about 20 other jobs including 1 DTS).
I have not found this error documented. I am assuming this has to do with the password change, but I have not been able to resolve it. The DTS packages run fine by hand (manually). I recreated the scheduled jobs several different ways but they still fail.
Any information on this is most appreciated! Thank-you!!

If I install an instance with Windows Only authentication, and then change it to Mixed Mode, if I enable the sa login, the password has already been set. What is the default? If it's generated, how secure is it? Is the password generated? What algorithm is used for that?
After publishing report on server and accessing it from URL its prompting for the USER ID and pAssword of Admin user of the server. Have tried to find the Virtual Directory of the Reporting server on IIS - which is not available. or unable to find the same. Apart from this have saved the Database credential in the report itself.
if possible i want a flexibility wherein i should b able to give the gp_code and all the items in tht gp_code should b displayed in above format where in the starting monthh will b the current month .
We are using Ms SQLSERVER 6.5 on NT 4.0 service pack 3 I have joined in as a new DBA and don't know much about MS-SQLSERVER & it's replication. What I have observed out here is that one of the databases was being replicated betnn Tokyo and Kawasaki and suddenly after 22nd Feb stop replicatiing without giving any errors. I have checked the max job_id in MSsubscriber_status on distribution database as well as max_job_id in MSlast_job_info on subscription db.They seem to match.I have also tried to drop and recreate the unique clustered index on the subscribing database. But nothing seems to work.
Hi Every body, I have newly joined this group. I am new to DB administration. I wanted some information as to if my Server crashes (which has) & i reinstall SQL server, will restoring master database restore all my permissions & security which was set before crash. It would be great in anybody can help me on this. Regards, Krishna
Just a query, I have several tables that have bigint identity columns, I need to know what will happen when it reaches the upper limit. It will be most likely that earlier id fields have been deleted by the time it reaches the upper limit, so will it reuse numbers?
Q--Is there any feature of sqlserver-2000 by which we can restore the database with minimum time by using the parallel processor? if the answer is yes wht is the statistics with example
For example
Time reqd for restoring 20GB of database 25minutes.
with configuration of Xeon processor,1GB memory and no users are using the server.
Basic purpose of my question is i need to give a solution to the client by using which he will be able to restore 20GB of data in 1 minutes .Is there any 3rd party utility which is available in market or can we achive this in mssqlserver2000, itself by increasing the resources like memory, cpu etc.
I have connected to Database using my credentials by checking remember password option. After few days I forgot my password. How can I recover the password as SQL remember it. Is there any way to recover my password instead of resetting it.
I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure! However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it. If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.
I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.
This is driving me insane! I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..
The code I use is: DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
and I get
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF
although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.
Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?
I want to set up a database role so that users can use sp_readerrorlog through SSMS. It does a check on membership in the securityadmin role.
I have tested it and can see you can grant execute on xp_readerrorlog but the SSMS GUI uses sp_readerrorlog.
I thought I could create a user/certificate and add the signature to sp_readerrorlog but it's not permitted (likely because it's not a normal database object).
So the other solution is to add the users to the securityadmin role but then explicitly deny alter any login (best done with a custom server role in 2012+ but otherwise just manually in 2008). I tested this out and it works, I'm not able to alter any logins or increase my own permissions, I also did a check of what's reported from fn_my_permissions(null, null) and it shows minimal permissions like I'd expect.
I am receiving the following error message when attempting to create a new SQL Authenticated login id.
Password validation failed. The password does not meet the requirements of the password filter DLL. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15119)
I have four servers all running SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP1. Of the four servers, only one received the above error message using the same TSQL below.
CREATE LOGIN TEST_LOGIN WITH PASSWORD = 'pvif9dal' MUST_CHANGE, CHECK_EXPIRATION = ON
All four servers are in the same domain, which if I understand correctly, the password policies are therefore inherited at the OS level by the domain. The password being used is within the password policies of the domain.
I tried to install an ALLDATA database which run with SQL Server 2005 express edition. The data base fails to install becase of the following code that come up which is related to AS password requirement. The error that come up is:

I am trying to install this database in a network server operating under Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please let me.
On the login prompt for Report Server, there is a checkbox option to "Remember my Password." I check this, login successfully... but when returning to the Report Server, I am again prompted for the password, although the user name is saved. No matter how many times I do this, the password will not save in IE7. I have tried this on 3 different computers with IE7. In IE 6, I do not even get the checkbox as an option, just the user name/password prompt. In Firefox, the password saves fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?
I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:
PHP Code:
$sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";
Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.
