Changing The Default Drive And Folder For DB's

Nov 21, 2006

Hi;

I feel like an idiot to be asking this,
but how do I change the default drive and folder
in which new databases are created?

I've been looking all over Server Mgmt Studio,
and I can't find anything. I'm thinking that someone
can tell me this off the top of their heads,
or slip me a link to a web page.

Thanks,

Snapshot Folder Is On Network Drive, Which Requires User And Pwd Login

Jun 6, 2007

hi all

when my snapshot folder is on a network drive, on which "simple filesharing" is enabled, i can access that folder without typing a user and password and configuring login security settings.

but in fact the network drive on which the snapshot folder will be located will do have a login and password. (when i go to it with windows explorer, i have to enter my login and password).

won't this cause problems for the replication? as i don't see where to enter net network login when i configure the replication via the wizard.

Thanks for help

Changing HOME Folder Per User

Jun 18, 2007

I am wondering how I could do the following -

Right now the default folder is Home, what if I have two users User1 and User2, my folder structure is the following -
Home/User1
Home/User2

I want each user to only have access to their folder. That is easy to do.

Once both users have proper access to their folders they still don't have access to Home folder. In Report Builder when I do 'open file' it defaults to Home folder so I get an error. How can I specify the home folder to be User1 for that user and User2 for the second user? I know I can give them both browsing permissions to Home but it's not very elegant.

There must be a way to programmatically change the folder as soon as proper user logs in. Anyone knows how to do that?

Thanks.

Changing The Temporary Folder Being Used By Reporting Services

Dec 19, 2007

Hi everyone!

I have a problem regarding the generation of report using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services). As I've read from other forums, the said service need access to the Windows temp folder, which by default, is found in C:WINDOWSTemp. The said path is found in either the TMP or the TEMP environment variable. This means that there should be sufficient access to this folder, in order for SSRS to properly generate the report. The problem is that my client, for security reasons, does not want to grant special rights to this folder, using the ASP.NET account. Is there any way that we can change location of the temporary folder being used by SSRS without having to change the value of the TMP and TEMP environment variables? thanks in advance

How To Set SQL Server And VS Default Folder Paths?

Jul 24, 2007

Ive just installed VS2005 Pro and SQL Server Developer edition.

Now I want to set the default paths for project, templates, settings. But I want for both VS and SQL files.

For example, right now the default folders for SQL Studio are:

.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjects

.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioSettings

.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioTemplates

.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioBackup Files

... and so on.

For VS Studio:

.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Projects

.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Templates

.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Code Snippets

... and so on.

I would like for all sub-folders(from SQL Server and VS) to be in one same folder(Development), for example:

.My DocumentsDevelopmentProjects

.My DocumentsDevelopmentSettings

.My DocumentsDevelopmentTemplates

.My DocumentsDevelopmentBackup Files

.My DocumentsDevelopmentCode Snippets

... and so on.

I have tried changing in each application´s options the default path for each one, pointing to each folder I listed above.

My problem is that both VS and SQL Server still keeps creating folders in the old locations, for example: ".My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjects". This example happens when I create a new query, and try to save it, it automatically creates that folder.

It only works for a few of them, like the settings folder. Ive managed to create a single folder for SQL and VS setting files.

Is there a way I can join both Application folders? I want to keep both projects files in one folder, both setting files in one folder, and so on...

I hope I explained well my situation.

Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 :: Changing Alt Snapshot Folder For Merge Replication?

Sep 22, 2015

I have a merge replication. Currently works fine. Publisher & Distributor are on the same server. I need to change the location of the alternate folder for the snapshot files.

I’ll probably just change it through the GUI, but would I use sp_changedistpublisher or sp_changemergepublication if I were scripting everything?

My real concern is the subscribers. Do I have to ‘tell’ the subscribers where the alt folder has been changed to? Do I just run sp_changemergepullsubscription on the subscribers?

Changing Default Aspnetdb Name

Jan 2, 2008

Hi, can anyone help me please - I'm still struggling with my database.
My set up is: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005, SQL Express 2005, GoDaddy windows shared hosting.
On my PC I have a site which uses membership and the default database which was created after first compilation.
This works fine locally.
However, I need to export this to the GoDaddy server.
To do this I must rename the database (or recreate the project with a newly named database) and figure out how to alter any other settings.
I tried running aspnet_regsql.exe command but I really didn't have any luck.
I would have thought this would be a straight forward operation.
Can anyone give me guidance please.

Changing My Default Database?

Apr 27, 2007

Hi.

I thought I had this solved but after running aspnet_regiis again
I am having the same problem.

I can't log onto my sql server because the default DB is master.
The following command using sqlcmd gives me the master db:

Code:

SELECT *
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
GO

So, to try to fix this i ran:

Code:

EXEC sp_defaultdb 'sa', 'my_default_db'
GO

and no luck. I went over to the DB server and checked
the permissions under SERVER/SQLEXPRESS > SECURITY > LOGINS. All except NTAuthority and Administrators have
my intended DB as the default (including ASPNET).

This is frustrating because I know I have figured it out
before but I can't remember what I did. Help appreciated.

Thanks.

Changing A BIT To An INT Where There's A CONSTRAINT And A DEFAULT

However, no matter how much I wrangle with a script, Ican't find a reliable way to alter the column. Changing From Default Installation

Jun 27, 2007

Hello,

Our security center just scanned my database server and has asked that I change the database server from the default instance name and change the default port used. When installed MS SQL Server 2000 I used the default installation settings. I have installed SP4 and this is all running on a fully patched WIN 2003 Server machine. Is this possible without un-installing and then re-installing?

Thanks for any and all help.

Changing Default PORT Config

Mar 9, 1999

Hi, I'm supporting a SQL 6.5 application through a firewall & I'm new to NT & SQLServer.
What's the easiest way to find out what port SQL is listening on? It should be 1433 but
the NT guys say 1433 isn't in use. What's the easiest way to change the default port? A search through Books online talks about editing registry keys & I'd prefer not to do this if this can be avoided. Any tips would be appreciated.

Changing The Default Location Of A New Database

Oct 16, 2006

If you enter "Create Database test", the database files (mdf file & log file) are created, by default, in:-
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData
I want to change that to:-
D:Database Files
I sucessfully moved the model database to this location (using the instructions in BOL) assuming that all new databases would now get created in the same location, but they don't. They still get created in:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData

So how do I change the default?
(It's not satisfactory to have to move each database after it's created)

Thanks, Andy Abel
