I want to check when a null value is being inserted in the column in my table using my existing trigger.
At the moment i have eliminated duplicates, but instead of saving the duplicate a null value is placed into the column if there is a duplicate entry.
I am trying to create a check command that ensures only A'B','c','D','E','F','G and s1, s2 can be inserted in the table, is this even applicable? Heres my code:
Create Table GRADE (
GradeVARCHAR2(1) CONSTRAINT pk_Grade PRIMARY KEY
CONSTRAINT check_grade
CHECK (substr(Grade = 'A','B','c','D','E','F','G')),
Salary_Scale VARCHAR2(2) CONSTRAINT check_SScale
CHECK (substr(Salary_Scale = 'S1', 'S2')),
)

Hello all,
I really need your help now, and I know I can always count on this group for tough answers to tough questions. OK, here's my dilemma. I have my trigger, which upon a record being inserted into db1.table1, inserts the same record into db2.table2 (SQL 7 db on the same server). What's happening is only a few of the fields are getting over there, but most are ending up NULL or 0. Everything besides the following records are inserting into the other database table properly:
EventName
EventStatusID
NumberofDays
NumberofStores
PreferredDate1
PleaseContactFlag
EventStoreSelection
EventClusterID
Note: The following fields have their Default Value set to (0)
SystemID
EventStatusID
Coop
NewProductFlag
TVSupportFlag
RadioSupportFlag
FSISupportFlag
RollbackPricing
PleaseContactFlag
Default Value set to (1):
KitInformationID
Here is the trigger:

I have a table with the following specifications:
[FutureArticleId] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[cFutureArticleTitle] [nvarchar](50) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL,
[cDescription] [ntext] COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL,
[gCategoryId] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[cKeyword] [ntext] COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL,
[bIsDeleted] [bit] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [DF_tbl_FutureArticle_bIsDeleted] DEFAULT ((0)),
[tOnCreated] [datetime] NOT NULL,
[tOnUpdated] [datetime] NULL,
[gCreatedBy] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[gUpdatedBy] [bigint] NULL,
After some insertions and deletion from the UI, obviously there are gaps in the FutureArticleId column which is an identity column.
However, sometimes while inserting the records the records are being inserted into the gap and not in the next available Identity value.
Is there any table setting which I need to do, to stop this.
Please let me know
Thanks

Am witnessing a very strange issue when i try to insert some records . I get the message in the SSMS like 5,10 etc rows affected. When i check for the same records in the table none of them is present.
This problem then automatically goes away after some time and all get backs to normal. I only have the access to that database no other user have the access. Totally confused about the all of a sudden new behavior of the database.
This is like the bug from hell. It is kind of hard to explain, soplease bear with me.Background Info: SQL Server 7.0, on an NT box, Active Server pageswith Javascript, using ADO objects.I'm inserting simple records into a table. But one insert command isplacing 2 or 3 records into the table. The 'extra' records, have thesame data as the previous insert incident, (except for the timestamp).Here is an example. Follow the values of the 'Search String' field:I inserted one record at a time, in the following order (And only oneinsert per item):airplanejetdogcatmousetigerAfter this, I should have had 6 records in the table. But, I endedup with 11!Here is what was recorded in the database:Vid DateTime Type ProductName SearchString NumResultscgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:48:26 PDT 2003 i null airplane 112cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:49:37 PDT 2003 i null jet 52cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:50:00 PDT 2003 i null dog 49cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:50:00 PDT 2003 i null jet 52cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:50:00 PDT 2003 i null jet 52cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:50:22 PDT 2003 i null dog 49cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:50:22 PDT 2003 i null cat 75cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:52:53 PDT 2003 i null mouse 64cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:53:06 PDT 2003 i null tiger 14cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:53:06 PDT 2003 i null mouse 64cgcgGeorgeWeb3 Fri Sep 26 09:53:06 PDT 2003 i null mouse 64Look at the timestamps, and notice which ones are the same.I did one insert for 'dog' , but notice how 2 'jet' records wereinsertedat the same time. Then, when I inserted the 'cat' record, another'dog' record was inserted. I waited awhile, and inserted mouse, andonly the mouse was inserted. But soon after, I inserted 'tiger', and 2more mouse records were inserted.If I wait awhile between inserts, then no extra records are inserted.( Notice 'airplane', and the first 'mouse' entries. ) But if I insertrecords right after one another, then the second record insertion alsoinserts a record with data from the 1st insertion.Here is the complete function, in Javascript (The main code ofinterestmay start at the Query = "INSERT ... statement):----------------------------------------------------------------------//Write SearchTrack Record ------------------------------------Search.prototype.writeSearchTrackRec = function(){Response.Write ("<br>Calling function writeSearchTrack "); // fordebugvar Query;var vid;var type = "i"; // Type is imagevar Q = "', '";var datetime = "GETDATE()";//Get the Vid// First - try to get from the outVid var of Cookieinctry{vid = outVid;}catch(e){vid = Request.Cookies("CGIVid"); // Gets cookie id valuevid = ""+vid;if (vid == 'undefined' || vid == ""){vid = "ImageSearchNoVid";}}try{Query = "INSERT SearchTrack (Vid, Type, SearchString, DateTime,NumResults) ";Query += "VALUES ('"+vid+Q+type+Q+this.searchString+"',"+datetime+","+this.numResults+ ")";this.cmd.CommandText = Query;this.cmd.Execute();}catch(e){writeGenericErrLog("Insert SearchTrack failed", "Vid: "+vid+"- SearchString:: "+this.searchString+" - NumResults: "+this.numResults, e.description);}}//end-----------------------------------------------------------------I also wrote a non-object oriented function, and created the commandobject inside the function. But I had the same results.I know that the function is not getting called multiple timesbecause I print out a message each time it is called.This really stumps me. I'll really appreciate any help you canoffer.Thanks,George

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have an app that uses triggers for auditing. Is there a way to know the order that the records were inserted or deleted? Or maybe a clearer question is.... Can the trigger figure out if it was invoked for a transaction that "inserted and then deleted" a record versus "deleted and then inserted" a record? The order of these is important to our auding.
Thanks!

Initially I had designed ETL using Dataflow task in SSIS , No I have converted into Store procedure using merge statement.
I am getting new records inserted, source records and deleted row count when I am running sqp manually.
In ssis simple I have used the rowcount transformation to capture the records.
below variable i have declared in SSIS Package.
User::etlArchiveLogId
User::sourcerecords
User::newrecords
User::changerecord
now I am incremental loading using Stored procedure below is the sp which is executing when task success and logs the records.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_LogArchiveBBxEndTime]
@EtlArchiveLog_Id int,
@RowsSource int,
@RowsNew int,
@RowsChanged int,
@Sucessful bit,
@Description varchar(500)
[code]....
Now I want to log the variable records which I have declared in my stored procedure .how can I log it in table?
When i debug a trigger is it possible to add a WATCHon the INSERTED or DELETED?I think not, at least I couldn't figure out a way to do so.Does someone have a suggestion on how I can see the values?I did try to do something likeINSERT INTO TABLE1(NAME)SELECT NAME FROM INSERTEDbut this didn't work. When the trigger completed and Iwent to see the TABLE1, there were no records in it.Are there any documents, web links that describe waysof debugging the trigger's INSERTED and DELETED?Thank you
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a sql sever 2005 express table with an automatically incremented primary key field. I use a Detailsview to insert new records and on the Detailsview itemInserted event, i send out automated notification emails.
I then received two automated emails(indicating two records have been inserted) but looking at the database, the records are not there. Whats confusing me is that even the tables primary key field had been incremented by two, an indication that indeed the two records should actually be in table. Recovering these records is not abig deal because i can re-enter them but iam wondering what the possible cause is. How come the id field was even incremented and the records are not there yet iam 100% sure no one deleted them. Its only me who can delete a record.
And then how come i insert new records now and they are all there in the database but now with two id numbers for those missing records skipped. Its not crucial data but for my learning, i feel i deserve understanding why it happened because next time, it might be costly.

Size, pieces, sizeID, sizecombID (SizeCombination Id)
S, 1, 1, 1
M, 3, 2, 1

XL, 1, 4, 1
Now suppose user enters all these 4 records which i will pass as xml string to my stored procedure.
Is there any way to check existense of all these 4 records in this table from the xml data which i pass by using one SQL statement ? Or what is the right way of checking it, Is it through using cursor ??
Finally after checking it should retrun SizeCombID for a existing record, and if record is not existent then it should add these 4 records in table and return the new SizeCombID.
Can somebody pls help on this..
I am trying to update one table when records are inserted in another table.
I have added the following trigger to the table “ProdTr” and every time a record is added I want to update the field “Qty3” in the table “ActInf” with a value from the inserted record.
My problem appears to be that I am unable to fill the variables with values, and I cannot understand why it isn’t working, my code is:
ALTER trigger [dbo].[antall_liter] on [dbo].[ProdTr]
for insert
as
begin
declare @liter as decimal(28,6)
[Code] ....
My example data as this:
ID code1 code2
1 a m
1 b n
1 c T
2 d m
2 e n
2 f n
3 g m
3 h n
3 i T
I would like to have a select stmt that check for all same ID and code2 does not contain T, then return the records
For example data: the query should return
2 d m
2 e n
2 f n
Is it possible to do this?
I have groups of records in a table, and I would like to set a necessary condition on each group. The condition is that EXACTLY ONE of the records in each group has a flag field set to True (bit = 1). I can naturally write triggers for update, insert and delete events that test for such a condition.
Something along the lines of this condition:
(select count(ClovekAutoID)
from TableOfClovekNames tCN
where JeHlavni = 1
group by ClovekAutoID
having COUNT(JeHlavni ) > 1) = 1In fact,
I tried this just on whim, but naturally, the SS engine told me to go roll my hoop, that subqueries are not allowed in constraint expressions.
I have a table with a column Capacity which is char(10) and gets populated from user files. I want to check records which have negative Capacity value. So i first checked if its numeric and then for negative.
select * from table WHERE ISNUMERIC(LTRIM(RTRIM(Capacity))) = 1 AND Capacity < 0
BUT still it checks for char fields too giving errors like - Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'asdf ' to data type int.
I'm kinda embarrased, it's been quite awhile since I've played with SQL or Access but here's my brain fart. I need to open an access DB by the name of eHomes. Inside there are two tables AD_IMAGE & PROPERTY. Property is the main table and stores most of the info. It has a field in it called AD_ID and others except for the image file name. The AD_IMAGE table just keeps the image file name and has 3 fields: ID - AD_ID - & Image1. The problem is when the ad is deleted from the property table the AD_IMAGE table record referring to the PROPERTY.AD_ID doen't get deleted. So, I just want the AD_IMAGE table cleaned up to match what's active in the PROPERTY table using the common AD_ID fields in both tables.
Thanks
I have two tables. Users and records. I need to select only the users that not has lines recorded in the other table. How could I do that?
Example:
ID| Name| Access 1|Access 2|
----------------------------
1 | Axel | True |False |
2 | Ivan | False |False |
3 | Bob | True |False |
4 | Sue | False |False |
ID| Points| Month| Year|User_1|User_2|
--------------------------------------
1 | 2 | 5 | 2015| 2 | 1 |
2 | 5 | 5 | 2015| 2 | 1 |
3 | 1 | 5 | 2015| 3 | 1 |
Then I want to run a select in the users table, only with the users that hasn't records in the second table.
In the example, the second table has User_1 as the user who receives the points and the User_2 is the user who give the points. Then I would know what user didn't receive 'points' yet.
is there any way of getting the identity without using the "@@idemtity" in sql??? I'm trying to use the inserted event of ObjectDataSource, with Outputparameters, can anybody help me???

I'm doing a data migration job from our old to our new database. The idea is that we don't want to clutter our new tables with the id's of the old tables, so we are not going to add a column "old_system_id" in each and every table that needs to be migrated.
I have created a number of tables in a separate schema "dm" (for Data Migration) that will store the link between the old database table and the new database table. Suppose that the id of a migrated record in the old database is 'XRP002-89' and during the insert into the new table the IDENTITY column id gets the value 1, the link table will hold : old_d = 'XRP002-89', new_id = 1, and so on.
I knew I can get the value of IDENTITY columns with the OUTPUT INTO clause, although I have never actually used it. And now I can't get it to do what I need.
Below is some code to set up three tables: the old table, the new one, and the table that will hold the link between the id's of records in the old database table and the new database table.
Code:
CREATE TABLE DaOldTable(
pkCHAR(10)NOT NULL,
a_columnCHAR(10)
)
CREATE TABLE DaNewTable(
idINTNOT NULL IDENTITY,
[Code] ....
Below I tried to use the OUTPUT INSERTED INTO clause. Beside getting the generated IDENTITY value, I also need to capture the value of the old id that will not be migrated to the new table. When I use "OUTPUT DaOldTable.pk" the system gives me the error: "The multi-part identifier "DaOldTable.pk" could not be bound." Using INSERTED .id gives no problem.
Code:
INSERT INTO DaNewTable(a_column)
--OUTPUT DaOldTable.pk, INSERTED.id link_old2new_DaTable--(DaOld_id, DaNew_id)
SELECT a_column
FROM DaOldTable
[Code] ...
--but getting "The multi-part identifier "DaOldTable.pk" could not be bound."
DROP TABLE DaOldTable
DROP TABLE DaNewTable
DROP TABLE link_old2new_DaTable
How can I populate a table that must hold the link between the id's of records in the old database table and the new database table? The records are migrated with set-based inserts.
