Check If The Database Is Currently Being Backed Up

Sep 26, 2007

How can I check if the database is currently being backed up?

Seems like that should be a property, but it's not an attribute of the DATABASEPROPERTY function.

Thanks

Transact SQL :: Determine When Database Was Backed Up Without Using MSDB Tables?

Apr 22, 2015

I was wondering if there was another method to determine when a database was last backed up without using the backup history tables in msdb? whether using DBCC DBINFO, DBCC PAGE on a specific database page...etc.

Also, when restoring a database, is there a trace flag you can use to force restore details to be written to the error log?

Help !!! None Of My Transaction Logs Are Getting Backed Up

Jan 19, 2001

Hi all,

I have set up a maintenance plan to backup my databases but when I view the maintenance plan history the transaction log backup steps have a success tick but a message saying :

"Backup can not be performed on this database. This sub task is ignored"

I have looked in my backup directory and only see *.BAK files and no *.TRN.
The transaction logs are supposed to back up at 1AM and the databases at 2AM

All my databases being backed up have the truncate log on checkpoint option set. Is this best practise according to my backup schedule ?

Help !!!!

Regards,

Tim

Do SS Transaction Logs Have To Be Backed Up For Recovery To POF?

Aug 17, 2006

Coming from a (mostly) Oracle shop, I am unclear how SS transaction logswork as far as up to point of failure recovery goes.I have the few MSSQL databases I look after in full recovery mode, and Iset up maintenance plans to back these up online on a daily basis. Inthe research I did it was recommended backing up the transaction logs aswell on a frequent basis to ensure recovery to POF or point in time.I had assumed that they work like Oracles archive logs, in that oncethey are full they are archived to disk in case they are needed, toduplex destinations if need be. Does SS do this, or do I need to bebacking up transaction logs on an hourly (or shorter) basis? In lookingat enterprise manager I see that it does not look like the transactionlogs are archived anywhere, but overwritten once filled up, similar toOracle noarchivelog mode, in that if you lose your online redo logs oranyone of them has recycled since your last backup, then you can onlyrecover to the last good backup. Is this a correct assumption? Should I be backing up transaction logshourly to make sure I can have PIT or POF recovery?thanksTG

SQL 2012 :: Transaction Logs Not Backed Up On AGs Although Flagged As Successful

May 13, 2014

We use AlwaysOn availability groups, which has 2 SQL nodes configured (version: 11.0.3373.0), my full and differential backups are working for all my databases, however I am unable to perform any LOG backups.

I have double checked my Availability Group settings, and the backup preferences is set to: 'Prefer Secondary'

I've tried creating a maintenance job as well as using Ola Hallengren's maintenancescript job to back them up, but nothing is written to the drive. All jobs return successful every time, and take less then 3 seconds to run. There are no events being written in the SQL error log or event log.

Power Point :: SharePoint Feature Failing After Site Collection Was Backed Up And Restored

Sep 9, 2013

I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works fine for several days. One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine. Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(

I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data".When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature.

Check For Database

May 6, 2008

Hello,

I am performing a number of queries on a database and inputting the results of those queries into a target database.

These queries are performed inside a number of data flows.

I would like to do two things:

1) Check that the target database can be seen before entering the dataflows. If not, wait X minutes and then retry.

2) If, for some reason, SSIS loses connectivity to the target database during the process, I would like to, is possible, roll back any current transactions and start over.

Unfortunately my knowledge of SSIS is very limited, so if anyone could lend a hand I would appreciate it.

Best regards,

Simon

Check Current Database

Jun 18, 2007

I was wondering if it was possible to check what server database you are currently connected to, using T-SQL, when executing commands in Query Analyzer. Even though you choose the server and database when connection, sometimes by habit you may connect to the wrong server & DB, and execute an .SQL file. Is it possible to put a line of T-SQL at the beginning that performs this pseudo-code, as a safety feature:-- While in Query Analyzer with a certain .SQL file open:If current server <> 'TheCorrectServer' and current DB <> 'TheCorrectDB' then cancel this .SQL file execution.

How To Check If A Database Is A Snapshot

Oct 31, 2007

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a way to check to see if a database is a snapshot or not. You can for example check different properties of a database by running the following:

SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX('databasename','Recovery')
SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX('databasename','IsInStandBy')
SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX('databasename','Status')

So I am trying to see if there is a way to check for a snapshot

Thanks,

Ok so that's simple, but how can I return a true or false if '1' is a value that exists in the db?

Check Database Integrity

Jan 22, 2008

im trying to set up maintenance plan for the check database integrity...

In sql 2000 you get a nice little log in SQL Logs
DBCC CHECKDB (WSS_Search_db3) executed by xxx found 0 errors and repaired 0 errors. Elapsed time: 0 hours 0 minutes 1 seconds.

But in SQL 2005
Im not getting a nice log of this but getting it against some system database and not the database i selected

Date1/22/2008 5:19:43 PM
LogSQL Server (Current - 1/22/2008 5:19:00 PM)
Sourcespid84
Message
DBCC CHECKDB (mssqlsystemresource) WITH no_infomsgs executed by XXX found 0 errors and repaired 0 errors. Elapsed time: 0 hours 0 minutes 1 seconds.

Anyone got this to work?
Trying to get the same message i got for SQL 2000 or at least so i can confirm it ran.

Hi,

I have no way to test this. If let's say the database has logical integrity errors, will it throw back an error to the Check database integrity object such that, the error arrow (the red line which is the error handler stuff) will be triggered for notification purposes?

Check Database Integrity

Mar 6, 2008

what does check database integrity in maintenance plan do.

i heard that the transactional log growth in sql server should be fixed to maximum available disk space and must be monitore the threshold through maintenance plan.how can it be done. please advice me through maintance plan instead of
shrinking the log as it is unnecessary IO to the disk.

How often is the check database integrity scheduled. is it daily or weekly.

Check For Inactive Database

Sep 21, 2007

Hi

I am working at a site that has no dedicated DBA, and our Sql Server 2000 environment has recently been playing up. There are several databases on the Production server that should be inactive (for applications no longer used).

What is the best way for me to see if there has been any recent activity on these databases (short of taking them offline and waiting for screams). Please keep in mind that I am a Sql Server novice.

Cheers

Database Integrity Check

Aug 2, 2006

I have a database hosted that doesnt passes the integrity test. Here is the error it gives :
Executing the query "USE [db_cs]
failed with the following error: "Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'db_cs'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

Any idea whats wrong and how I can let the integrity test pass for this db.

Thanks,
