I'm trying to write a script that will check is a MemberName belongs to the Db_Owner role and if it doesn't I then want to add that membername to the role. Does anyone know how to do this?
I have managed to list the Db_Owner MemberNames by using the sp_helprolemember stored procedure, and I can use the following:
SP_addrolemember 'db_owner' , 'ASPNET'
to add the membername to the db_owner role, it's just conditional only do it if it doesn't exist that is causing me grief.

Sql2005 Express 'windows NT User Or Group Not Found. Check The Name Again.
Feb 26, 2006I have installed visual studio 2005 with sql express. My tutorial book asked me to do the following to be able to use sql.
sqlcmd -S mycomputernameSQLExpress -E
which worked and then I get
1>
where I am to put in
1> sp_grantlogin [mycomputernamemyusername]
2> go
after this i get the error.
Msg 15401, Level 11, State 1, Server mycomputernameSQLEXPRESS, Procedure sp_grantlogin, Line 49
Windows NT user or group 'mycomputernamemyusername' not found. Check the name again.
I used Local System for the user name as that is what I think I am seeing as the right user account.
Help?
How To Xfer Db_owner From User Back To Where It Belongs?
Aug 22, 2007OK. I screwed-up. SS2005. I gave a user ownership of schema "db_owner" and now I can not change it back to what it was (unknown) so I can delete the user. So how do I change ownership of "db_owner" back to what it was so I can delete the user???

Problem In SQL Developing As Restricted User (member Of User Group)
Nov 19, 2005Greetings,VWD EE and other Tools do not have problems working O.K. on my machine, when I am logged-on as restricted(limited) user, both environment and local web server are functioning, and it was MS effort to do it right.BUT the Problem is, when I try to connect to database->new DB connection(either through vwd or management studio etc). I get an Error - which should be written to event log (according to msg) but it isn't - that I can't connect. I am sure that it is because NO SQL SERVER2005EXPRESS instance is running, which I think is the only prerequisite to have it work (I do not need sqlbrowser service I am doint local development).SQL2005express service is configured on MANUAL start. I can start it as administrator through SQL config manager, but it is not convienient and what I want. I need to start it ONLY as a developer user, I do not want it to be running all-the-time for everyuser using computer. It was congigured as Network Service logon, I tried Local Service logon, and I even tried configuring it to logon as -my developer user- account, e.g. with limited user name and his password.In every case I can't start the service as member of users group and this developer. Then I added limited user to SQL2005EXPRESS group. Still NO help, won't start either.My question is, If I want to start developing ADO2.NET application and I need to have running SQL2005Express instance as a develper, how can I start it? I think I do not have some rights to masterDB or something. Do it allways need to be running when computer starts? Isn't there any other way, to start it JUST when I think I start developing?I know of user-mode of accessing SQL2005express DBs, but it also assumes that SQL2005Express service is already running, what I am trying to prevent. I do not want to have it running for everyone who uses computer, just for someone who neeeds it.Any help explaining me the right way HOW TO SETUP WORKING ENVIRONMENT when developing as limited user welcome, I read the the documentations and haven't found the answers.THANK YOU !

Previously I could check the system table msdb.dbo.backupset but this is not available for copy_only backups.So I wonder how people are monitoring that their full backups have been successful?
Do you just check that the SQL Agent job that runs the backup was successful?
Or do you search the SQL Server Error Log for entries like "Database backed up. Database: xxx" where database xxx is in an Availability Group?
Or is there a better method?

Row groups: Facility --> Category Type --> Category
Column groups --> year, quarter, month
I want to be able to programmatically update the table content if Category rows are not visible (Category Type row group is collapsed).

The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Can I declare a cursor with "EXEC sp_helpuser @UserName"? I'm not having success with this.
What about SELECT [GroupName] FROM EXEC sp_helpuser @UserName WHERE [GroupName] = @GroupName? Again, syntax error.
Is there already a better way that someone knows of?

I need to check the user security for each record that I read from the ProdTable against all entries in the AuthTable for the current user.

One way I tried before is to get all the users and stored the names in an array for comparing in my program, but can not figure out the SQL command (to get the database users), if there it is, please kindly tell me.
Or if I can just pass the current user to check?

Oct 26, 2006I have some script which creates/grant priveleges to windows/nt users to DB but i frequently get the message below:
Windows NT user or group '<user or group>' not found. Check the name again.
I understand that this is because the said user/group is indeed not present in the environment I'm running the script (ie. testing and production environment).
But is it possible to have some sort of checking whether the user/group exists in the environment so that I could determine whether or not to call some lines of code?

How to identify an object using its objectid. In profiler and activity monitor we see objects like
1:12345
1:2345:453454
and so on...
I am sure they are not tables or indexes and I guess they are something related to pages, rowids etc.,
how do i interpret these objects (ids) and point back to the table (if it belongs to any table)
to summarize what I want
how to identify the type of object is being shown in profiler/activity monitor
how to identify to which table/index that object belongs/associated
where can i get object name for any object id that is shown in profiler/activity monitor. some time it shows some object ids in 100s of thousands for which i don't see any entry in sysobjects/sysindexes

We are using Microsoft Sequence Clustering both "manually" via Visual Studio (SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio) and "programatically" via AMO and ADOMD.NET (using C#). We use AMO to build and process the MiningModel, and ADOMD.NET (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient) to browse through results.
Everything is working fine except for a very important detail: we can't find where the MiningModel stores cluster membership. The MiningModel.Content contains a column NODE_SUPPORT which shows how many sequences there are in each cluster, but we can't find which sequence belongs to which cluster.
In Visual Studio, the Microsoft Sequence Cluster Viewer is able to show this in Cluster Profiles (a right-click on a cluster followed by Show Legend lists the sequences that belong to that cluster).
Question is: where does the Viewer get this information, and how can we get it via ADOMD? Or via AMO, if that's the case?
Would appreciate your assistance.

May 17, 2000If I have an NT User created as a SQL login - and an NT Group as a SQL login, and then I revoke access to the Group - can the user still get in...? Should they be able to - since their specific user account is not locked, but the group is....?
I guess the real question is - when using NT Authentication, does security behave like NT - if you are denied one place - you are denied all places...?

Mar 8, 2015I've been running the Ola Hallengren maintenance script for the last five months without missing a beat. Today I find an error stating the UserDatabase Integrity check job failed last night. This is running on SQL Server 2014 BI edition w/64 Gigs.
I ran a DBCC CHECKDB on each database manually and all worked until I tried it on the biggest one that is about 18 gbs. It just keeps running and I eventually stopped it so I'm guessing it is memory, but doesn't make sense considering it has 64 gbs. I have it set to 64/4 max / min. Again, this was never an issue until last night.I've been looking up all morning, but not seeing much on this error "The operating system returned error 1453"?
