I'm trying to write a program in cold fusion to check the existance of
fields and data types according to requirements
I was looking at the syscolumns table for some of this information but
I've discovered that in my playing (creating and deleting tables) thre
are multiple entries for a field that is in table that is created then
deleted then created again.
Is this a problem? Is there a better way to get at the information ie
the table, field, and type exist in a database?
Using SSIS, I want to check if a specific file exists on an FTP server or not. If yes, then i'll go with a flow, and if not, i'll go with another flow. Any help with that?
I have a table that tracks some dates, and I am looking for an SQL statemet that will check all of the fields to see if a prespecified data range is true. For exampe you enter a start and end date and then then the SQL statement would check about 12 different fields to see if any of the dates are within that range. I am trying to use an or statement, but to no avail. So if you have any help it would be greatly appreciated.
I am going to be writting a script to add columns to a given table. Can anyone advise me how i check if the coulmn exists in a table before i modify it?
Hi, I remember seeing a fancy query that checked for multiple fields in a table (I think using a select statement in the where clause but not sure), but can't remember how to do it... here is what I want to do (and maybe there is a much easier way). Thanks!
Table1 id item color 1 shoe red 2 shoe blue 3 coat green 4 coat black
Table2 item color shoe red coat green
I want everything in Table1 where item and color are not a match.
So my results should be: 2 shoe blue 4 coat black
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question... it's been that kind of a day!
How do you determine in a (SQL table or view) calcualted field (yes/no) if a file exists.
Specifically, I have a view with a field (column) that calculates a filename (path plus file name from another field, plus extension. I want to determine if that calculated file name represents an existing file.
Also, if you could consider replying to this as well: How to determine file existance in ASP, when the file is not on the same server as the internet service (which is easy), but resides on another server, or when a URL is given for the file location.
how do i check if a temp table of a given name already exists on the current connection?
in the application i am working on, some reports are very complicated and use temp tables generated on the fly. these tables do not get cleared up sometimes and the next table generation statement bombs. i do not want to touch that code.
Hi, I need to test for the existance of a stored proc on a specific database(s) on a server(s), and get the user assigned permissions/roles. Is there a built in system proc that returns such information? Thanks,
Within the execution of a t-sql script how do I check for the existance of a temporary table associated with the session or a global temporary table?
My understanding is that the table name doesn't get placed in the current database sysobjects table - it goes into tempdb. But the object name is cryptic (so as to be unique) and I see no way of associating it with the current session (@@SPID).
I've been writing this stuff for a while, and can't seem to come to the conclusion of how I should be retrieving data and assigning this data to variables.
Since i'm using SQL Server, I'm convinced that I should be using the datareaders GetSqlDouble (or whatever) function, but this would mean i need my local variables to be one of the SQL types. The problem with that is, that there will have to be lots of conversions done by me to be able to use a SQL type in my application.
For instance, I have a class where i'm retrieving dates. In order to retrieve them correctly (Null values included), I need to retrieve them with GetSqlDateTime(), then when it comes time to display the date in a table, i must first check for nulls, then convert to a string. This seems to be very cumbersome. Would I be better off just using GetDateTime(), and the .ToString method, and ignoring Sql Types all together?
so, basically, how are you guys using your sql server data? with the supplied sql types, and doing all of the post-processing work manually? I feel like i'm having trouble conveying my issue...hopefully someone knows what i mean....i'd just like some direction to save trouble in the long run, since i feel like there's got to be a better way...
I am trying to add columns to several tables in a singular database. I want to check to see if the column exists in a given table first before executing the alter table command so that I can skip that command if the column already exists, and avoid aborting my script prematurely. I can't seem to find a way to check for the column's existance. Any suggestions?
Let me apologize in advance for what I know is a very basic question, but so far I'm not being terribly successful trying to find sample code to learn from.
I'm trying to write (my first!) .Net Script in SSIS to check for the existance of a file (since that seems to be the only way to do it).
I've created the Script Task, with the following settings:
PrecomplieScriptIntoBinaryCode = False (it complained at one point in time (possibly on validation))

I´m exporting an ms-excel file, then I use a lookup transformation to get a field from a SQL Server 2005 table. The Lookup transformation editor, after selecting the table, shows a warning that says:
at least one mapping between a column from available input columns ans a column from available lookup columns must be defined on the columns page.
So I try to make a relationship in the Lookup transformation editor's column tab where I find the Available input columns and the available lookup columns but I get the following error:
The following columns cannot be mapped: [Department, DEP_CLEGALCODE] One or more columns do not have supported data types, or their data types do not match.
The field in SLQ Server is varchar(10) and the input field is a derived column transformation; I have tried different Data Types but I always have the same error.
The DataFlow is: ExcelSource --> Derived Column --> Lookup --> Flat file destination
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
How can I create a Table whose one field will be 'tableid INT IDENTITY(1,1)' and other fields will be the fields from the table "ashu". can this be possible in SQL Server without explicitly writing the"ashu" table's fields name.

I am using MS SQL 2012. I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it. Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:
I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:
I would like to search a table for a phrase, or for a partial phrase,eg on table product - for name or description, or name + descprition. How does one say select * from product where name + description like%phrase%or contains phraseCurrently I can get where name, or where descriotion like %phrase%,eg, where name like krups, or where description like coffee makerBut if I search for where name like %krups coffee maker% i get noresults. krups is in the name field, coffee maker is in thedescription field.Thanks,-M
Pardon me if this question is too elementary. I am trying to create a trigger that will cause certain datafields to be updated with values from other data fields in the same row when a certain column, created specifically to fire the trigger, is updated. The purpose of this is to reduce data entry by field personnel.I think I have the create trigger statement correct, but I'm a little confused on the update statement.
In a nutshell, how can I write something like: UPDATE "TABLENAME" SET DATAFIELD1 = DATAFIELD2 WHERE RECORDNUMBER = (THE SAME RECORD NUMBER)
I do know that I have to ensure that sp_dboption Recursive Triggers value is set to false, thanks.
I have a list of items in one table and a field (pageName) in another table that may contain one of the aforementioned items somewhere within that field. There is no fixed position within the field where the itemNo may be so I can't just use SUBSTRING(pageName,2,5) in(select itemNo from tblItem).
Logically, it's like I need to combine IN and LIKE: select pageName where pageName LIKE IN %select itemNo from tblitemNo%..LIKE can only handle one comparison string.
Hi people My users are having troubles with link to default drillthrough report when reports are exported to excel (they REALLY don't like this behavior ), so I decided set all of them disabled in report model, this work fine, but calculated field in reports has this drillthrough link.
Let me show you the situation. Entity Product has an UnitaryCost field, I set the EnableDrillthrough Property in False so when I export a report with this field, no link is shown.
But if I create in the report a calculated field Round(UnitaryCost) this field has a Drillthrough Link
Is this the standard and expected behavior? or its simply a BUG?
Have I done something wrong in my model? and in this case, How I can correct this?
As you can see Col1 & Col2 ONLY do not make up the PK. I need to include Col3 as well. My concern is I am not sure if I have a row like.. 1...........2.......A......X reapeated lower down the order. So how do I figure the PK out?
Can someone show me some C# code for detecting if a SQL row exists or not? This seems like a very typical action and I cannot for the life of me find a tutorial online that explains this step. In my code I'm either going to INSERT or UPDATE a record. I tried sending a SELECT command through a ExecuteNonQuery, but only got -1 as a response. Apparently ExecuteNonQuery does not work with SELECT. I then saw that T-SQL has an EXISTS keyword, but I cannot see anyway to use that from within C#.So...can anyone share the typical code they use to identify if a row exists or not within a database. I guess I was execting there to be some method available to do this sort of thing.
i want to check a value in 2 tables. the 1st table i want to check if the value exists and from the 2ed table i samething. i came up with this but when it's doing the second if i get error on the page. Dim ReturnVal As Integer Dim ReturnVal2 As IntegerDim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("imacstestConnectionString").ConnectionString) Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT [ReportNumber] FROM [AppraisalSummaryBlue] WHERE ([ReportNumber] = @ReportNumber)", conn) 'To check if the # is registered.Dim cmd2 As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT [ReportNumber] FROM [t_RegisterInfoTemp] WHERE ([ReportNumber] = @ReportNumber)", conn) cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ReportNumber", txtReport.Text)cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ReportNumber", txtReport.Text) conn.Open() ReturnVal = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.ExecuteScalar()) conn.Close() 'This checks if the # is correct. If ReturnVal > 0 Then 'This checks if its registered with someone else. conn.Open() ReturnVal2 = Convert.ToInt32(cmd2.ExecuteScalar()) conn.Close() If ReturnVal2 <> 0 ThenServer.Transfer("regccinfo.aspx") Else lblError.Text = "the # is registered with someone else." End If Else lblError.Text = "the # does not exists." txtReport.Focus() End If
Good morning everyone I am writing a windows forms application that will work similar to the windows messenger popup. I need this application to display a message to the user whenever a record is added to table in my DB. Any help would be appreciated in explaining how I can check the DB for new records.
I've forgotten the character set that I've chosen when I was installing the SQL Server 7. Is there a way to check?
I'm currently using US English version of Windows NT4 and SQL7. But interestingly, all the data is in Japanes characters. It's actually for a Japanese website, and the front-end application is written in ASP. I remember reading somewhere that it is impossible to do certain type of sorting (by some particular order for the Japanese language) as it is limited by the choice of the language of the NT OS.
The type of sorting that I'm looking at is the grouping of 5-characters. One example is in http://www.forest.impress.co.jp/aiueo.html
Would this be possible with my current setup? Or would it help if I migrate over to Windows 2000? (I'd rather not move to Japanese NT4)
Your feedback and advice would be very much appreciated!
Just a brief question. I have a script which does a number of insert statements. What I would like to do is determine if the insert statements were all successful. Aside from checking @@ERROR after every insert, is there a way to check if all the insert statements completed successfully?
