Code That Return Correct Number Of Record When Run Without Aggregate Function

Nov 26, 2013

I have sql code that returns the correct number of record when run without an aggregate function like count(myfield) and group by myfield. It always returns 86 row which is correct when Select DISTINCT is used. As, expected when DISTINCT is not used I get double the number if rows or 172. But when I count(myfield) and group by myfield the count is 172 and not 86. The strangest thing about this is that when I am grouping a set of items

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

The other group sum up correctly while others don't. What can explain this? Here is the code.

Select DISTINCT ws.p4Districtnumber, ws.cycle, ws.worksetid, count(msi.MeterSessionInputKey) as ASND
from fcs.dbo.WorkSet as ws
left outer join fcs.dbo.WorkAssignment as wa
on ws.WorkSetID = wa.WorkSetID
left outer join fcs.dbo.MeterSessionInput as msi
on wa.worksetkey = msi.worksetkey

Return Error Code (return Value) From A Stored Procedure Using A Sql Task

Feb 12, 2008

I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.

I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT)
The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.

I have two parameters mapped:

tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO.
returnvalue output long 1

I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.

The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.

CREATE procedure [dbo].[Marketing_extract_history_load_TEST]

@table_name varchar(200),

@i int output

as

Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.

Stored Proc Won't Return Correct Value.

Oct 18, 2007

I am using VS 2006, asp.net and C# to call a stored procedure. I want to return a value from the stored procedure into a variable in my C# code. Currently this is not working for me, and I can not figure out whatthe problem is? Can someone please help me out?
I really don't think the problem is in my stored procedure. I can right click on the stored proc and run it withsuccess. If I trace into the C# code though only a negative one (-1) is returned.
On line 5 I have tried the alternate lines of code but this has not worked for me.
     mySqlCommand.Parameters["@TotalRecords"].Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;     mySqlCommand.Parameters["@TotalRecords"].Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue;
Can someone please help me out. I have spent to much time trying to figure this one out.

'Return' Statement In A Function,Get,or Operator Must Return A Value....Question

Aug 28, 2007

I'm a Reporting Services New-Be.

I'm trying to create a report that's based on a SQL-2005 Stored Procedure.

I added the Report Designer, a Report dataset ( based on a shared datasource).

When I try to build the project in BIDS, I get an error. The error occurs three times, once for each parameter on the stored procedure.

I'll only reproduce one instance of the error for the sake of brevity.

[rsCompilerErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the query parameter 'UserID' contains an error : [BC30654] 'Return' statement in a Function, Get, or Operator must return a value.

I've searched on this error and it looks like it's a Visual Basic error :

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8x403818(VS.80).aspx

My guess is that BIDS is creating some VB code behind the scenes for the report.

I can't find any other information that seems to fit this error.

The other reports in the BIDS project built successfully before I added this report, so it must be something specific to the report.

BTW, the Stored Procedure this report is based on a global temp table. The other reports do not use temp tables.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks,

Not Calculating The Correct Number Of Pages In Report

Mar 5, 2008

When viewing a report our users see that it is x number of pages, however when they print the report is actually y number of pages. For example once a report is ran, it says that it is 43 pages, however in actuality it is 62 pages. If they only want to print the last page, they choose to print 43 from the print dialog box, but that gives them a page in the middle of the report not the last page. Is there a way to remedy this?

Thank you,

Inserting A Record For Each Separate Aggregate (solved)

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,As I wrote my message the solution came to me, so I thought I wouldpost anyway for others to see in case it was useful:Here is some sample DDL for this question:CREATE TABLE Source (my_value INT NOT NULL )GOINSERT INTO Source VALUES (1)INSERT INTO Source VALUES (2)INSERT INTO Source VALUES (3)GOCREATE TABLE Destination (value_type VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL,value INT )GOI would like to fill the destination with a row for the COUNT, SUM,MIN, and MAX. My own problem is of course much more complex than this, but this is the basic stumbling block for me now. So, the rows that Iwould expect to see in Destination are:value_type value---------- -----COUNT 3SUM 6MIN 1MAX 3The solution that I came up with was to add a Value_Types table:CREATE TABLE Value_Types (value_type VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL )GOINSERT INTO Value_Types VALUES ('COUNT')INSERT INTO Value_Types VALUES ('SUM')INSERT INTO Value_Types VALUES ('MAX')INSERT INTO Value_Types VALUES ('MIN')GONow the SQL is pretty simple:SELECT V.value_type,CASE V.value_typeWHEN 'COUNT' THEN COUNT(*)WHEN 'SUM' THEN SUM(S.my_value)WHEN 'MAX' THEN MAX(S.my_value)WHEN 'MIN' THEN MIN(S.my_value)ENDFROM Source SINNER JOIN Value_Types V ON 1=1-Tom.P.S. - I know that I did not include primary or foreign keys in my DDL.I'll leave it as an excercise to the reader to figure those out. Ithink the code adequately explains the concept.

How To Aggregate, Preserving Starting/ending Record Ids?

Can I do all of this in an Aggregate Transformer, or do I need to derive some columns first?

Problem - Number Is Correct In The Dataset, Coming Out As Zero On The Report

May 15, 2008

I'm having a very frustrating problem that no amount of formatting via properties and/or expression seems to be clearing up.

I have a column in the dataset that is data typed decimal (6,4) (from the SQL query). The numeric value is, for example, being returned to the data set as 0.6500.

The problem is the report wants to just show zero. Formatting efforts to date have only yielded, '0', '0.00', & '0.0000'.

I have no clue. Anyone have any ideas?

Single Value From An Aggregate Function

Mar 19, 2006

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a way to insert a count of a set of records into a table and then read that table and produce an XML file from that dataset.  The problem that I'm coming across is that when you do this type of query you have to specify one of the values from the table and then get a count for the number of records of that particular range of values.
The table that I am trying to get the data from will look something like this:
ItemID   ModuleID   Description ......1              2869             blah blah blah2              2869             blah blah blah3              2869             blah blah blah4              2690             bit bit bit5              2690             bit bit bit6              2690             bit bit bit
So I count the 2869's and 2690's and place the ModuleID and the count of the ItemID's in another table.
Then I need to extract the data from the table and put it into an XML file that is readable by the ReadXML method in ASP.NET.
So far I've got the SPROC to do only one record at a time but I would like one that does the whole table rather than one at a time using a parameter.

Product As Aggregate Function?

May 22, 2008

Hi guys,

Does anybody know a convenient way to return the product of a column, similar to something like the 'sum' function?

If I have a table of form id-date-value, I'd like to do something like:

select id, date, product(val)

If not, does anyone know of a way one could structure this as a subquery?

If all else fails, I suppose I'll have to resort to a loop or cursor, but I'd rather not.

Any help would be much appreciated.
