Got this problem, ive setup some new roles and users through asp.net configuration and it creates ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data folder when ive got a DB in SQL server 2005 express.
Basically how do i change it so the tables created for the users and roles are created in the SQL Server 2005 Db? p.s I'm very new to sql server 2005

Jul 22, 2006I deployed a web site, and converted SQL Server Express to a single SQL Server 2005 database. I created all of the tables required for memberships and roles with aspnet_regsql.exe.
Real simple question - how can I populate the membership and role tables out on the server? When I attach VWD to it, the ASP.NET Configuration tool is gone. How do you maintain memberships and roles without the tool?

Reporting Configuration Tool
Aug 29, 2007I installed 2005 advance... install said all OK. I go to Reporting Configuration tool, try to set Report Server Virtual Directory,
set new to default... says number of errors 0 but the crashes with the "... and has to close" No details as to what the error is
and when I retry I cannot click on Report Manager Virtual Directory. Any Ideas?
Only Configuration Tool Downloaded, Why?

First of all, I am very new on SQL server express.
Today I downloaded and installed the SQL server express (from www.microsoft.com/downloads), but what I got is only: Configuration tool, (I can see from: Start -> Programms -> Microsoft SQL server 2005->Configuration tool).
I didn't get SQL Server management Studio express, SAL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, and Documentation and Tutorials.
I don't know where I did wrong, please help.

I am trying to configure reporting services using the Configuration Tool. I get all checks green except for Encryption Keys (Blue), Initialization (Grey), and Email Settings and Execution Account (both Yellow). I am not too worried about the yellow and blue ones because I have read that other people have the same, but I was wondering how to make Initialization available to configure. I am running SQL Server 2005 - Standard Edition.

The result is the following error when I click on the Security Tab:---There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) ---The hosting provider checked that my connection string is correct. They do not know why I get the error, though. Aug 3, 2007I just installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and reporting services (followed the video tutorial). Whenever I try to open the Reporting Configuration Tool, it gives me the following error:
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience.
My only options are to Debug or Close.
I'm not sure why I am getting this error. Can anyone help?

SQL 2005 RS Configuration Tool - Encryption Key Error
Mar 9, 2007I have SQL 2005, and Reporting Service has been uninstalled and reinstalled,
go through each step of confiugration until Encryption Key, for some reason,
the backup button is grayed out, only "restore" button is clickable, as well
as Delete, but we never backup the key before, so this is really strange
since we do not have backupkey, so we cannot restore.
we tried "Delete", then we got the following error:
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: The encrypted
value for the "LogonCred" configuration setting cannot be decrypted.
(rsFailedToDecryptConfigInformation)

I am positive that they are there somewhere collection/holding data but why doesn't they appear in the SQL Express management tool?

Nov 6, 2007 I've SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 configured on my system, but now I'm NOT Able to start the report server. I get this error on http://<serverurl>/Reports/Home.aspx:

FYI, I've modified the SQL Reporting Services account LogOnAs info, in Properties of "SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)" Service, in Windows Service Managment.
Earlier I had .useraccount as username, I modified it to domainnameuseraccount. And then suddenlt everything broke for reporting server.
SQL Express Datadase Not Visible To SQL Server Management Tool
Dec 18, 2005I have created a new database using Visual Web Developer and wanted to manage it using either the SQL Server Management Tool or MS Access via ODBC.
Niether of these tools will connect to the database.
The database file , called srx.mdf, the connection string is
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:InetpubwwwrootSRExchangeApp_Datasrx.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
I can however connect successfully to the master file, the conenction string for this is
Data Source=.sqlexpress;Integrated Security=True

Microsoft SQL 2005 Express Management Tool-errors
Sep 10, 2006Hi guys, I've tried to back a database from a server on the net ie: discountasp.net by using Microsoft SQL 2005 Express management tool.
After all the set up:
(1) the part "Destination", in the "Disk" radio button was cheked, the path for the backup file shows like: D:MSSQL.1MSSQLBackupmyDatabase.back; As I understand D: is the CD drive(?), so I put a CDisc in the drive, and kept going with the process. The Process went very well and inform that the Database has been fully backed up. But I never have found the "saved" or "backed up" that I backed up. Can anyone show me where this backup Database in that D: drive, and where is that D: drive anyway?
(2) In that "destination" part, if I clicked "add", and then typed in the path address part like: C:....mybackupDatabase.bak for example, the the tool gave me the error: ... not set to an instance ...; I counldn't even select the Browse to browse to the directory that I wanted to back up the Database.
Please help me for this.

SQL Configuration Manager And SQL Server Surface Area Configuration Tools
May 2, 2007I have just finished installing SQL 2005 Ent Edition on Win 2000 Adv Server, SQL2005 SP2, and SP2 Hotfix KB934458. After the installation, I could see and configure all services via SQL Configuration Manager and SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tools. This worked for a couple of days and now both configuration tools no longer detect SQL2005 components. SQL Server Surface Area Configuration issued an error that said "No SQL Server 2005 components were found on specified computer. Either no components are installed, or you are not an administrator on this computer. (SQLAC)". SQL Configuration Manager did not list any installed services. I don€™t know what caused this. Anyone has any idea? Please help! Below is the Installation Report which shows installed components.

Jul 23, 2005Hi all.I'm looking for a tool which should act like some kind of middleware/logical layer bewtween the SQL server and the webbased user interface.- It should be possible to easily create simple web forms (only datainput and output) without programming effort by "clicking" the fieldsand their order on the web mask within an admnistrative interface.- It should also be bossible to add "new fields" to the database,including field type, permissions, value lists etc. (excluding anybusiness logic) without programming effort by administration.I know, that most workflow tools or "Trouble Ticket Tools", based ondatabases have this feature to easily configure new masks and add newfields to the database, but i need it as an tool-unspecific layer forthe MS SQL Server.Thank you very much for your feedback, any ideas are welcome!Best regards, Heiko.

Jan 14, 2006It seems to me, that the best way is to have one Environment Varible containing the name of the SQL Server, so that you can look up the configuration in the SSIS Configuration Table when you run the package.
Is this the preferable way of doing it ? I would like to hear some positive/negative comment of why chosing a configuration type instead of another.
It seems to me that putting all of the configuration in the Environment variable is harder work but most secure (server breakdown vs table corruption/database error...)

I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Here's the current scenario:
I am creating a windows application to manage my ssis packages.
My SSIS packages use package configurations, and by default connect to the "SSIS Configurations" table in sql server.
However, I want it to connect to a view instead of this table, so i create a view "vwSSIS_Configurations" and point the package configuration to use the view in sql server.
The application SHOULD be capable of altering the package configuration's configuration and switch its connection between the default "ssis configurations" table, and the view.
Is this possible? I cannot think of a way which I can have my application switch the package configuration's connection.

I would like the tool to be able to compare schemas for at least two databases and list the difference in tables, sps, functions, and view. Even if the both schemas contain the same structures I would like to know what differences exist. Also, I would like to be able to type in a table field name and get a list of every place in the db that field is referenced. On another note, how do others go about maintaining a version history of db structures? Any tools available for this functionality? Currently, I use visual source safe for my app. code. I could place copies of my SPs in visual source safe and edit them within visual studio. I'm not sure how I would easily get the edited version into my sql database without having to create a script or copy the edited version back to the db. Any thoughts?Any information is appreciated.Oscar

I am using bcp to copy some data from a flat file to a data table using the format file that look like this.

There are 4 columns in total, however some rows have missing values for Column 4, and but given there are no field separators (all columns have fixed width and data is truncated if needed), how should the format be written to define a row terminator to apply to Column 3 if Column 4 is null.
