Connecting To SQL On Network Machine

Hi,I'm trying to use one of my machines as a database server, just for local network testing/development etc. This machine/server is on my local network via a router.Can anyone advise me of how, when using VS 2005 Beta 2, to connect to my SQL Server 2005 installation on the server running on my network. ? In the 'add connection' dialogue, what do I put in the 'Server name:' field, (apart from server name...) is it the name of the machine or the IP address of the machine on the network ?Any and all advise appreicated.Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I have scheduled a backup on a remote machine. Everyday I FTP these backups from the remote machine to the local drive.
A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.
Can any one please tell me how to make this work?

I am hoping you will be of assistance to me and provide a little advice on what exactly is possible using SQL Express / SQL Server 2005 with regards to remotely connecting to a server.
I am a final year undergraduate student studying computing sciences in the UK. As a final year project I am attempting to create a client-server database, where the client (a WM5 PDA) can connect to an SQL server hosted on a different machine (a PC). However, I must be able to connect to the server when the PDA is being used on any Wi-Fi connection.
Basically I want the PDA to be able to connect to a database kept on the PC at home when you're out and about using the PDA's wi-fi.
Is this possible? If so, could you explain in 'dummy' terminology how one would go about this?
As my university is part of the MS Academic Alliance I have access to VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 for this project.

I have created and deployed an SSRS report, which I am able to access from the same machine using the URL. But I am not able to access the URL from a another machine in the same network.

Hi,
I am using an Enterprise Manager and i have created a Database Maintainance Plan, can anybody guide me as to how to create backup on a remote machine.
I also mapped that device(say M/c B) onto my server box(M/c A) but i am not able to see that particular location in my backup activity screen.
Can this be done in the first place ?

Two node AO cluster setup.
I found errors frequently in cluster events at logs as below
"Cluster network interface 'Node1 - 10.X.XXX.1' for cluster node 'Node1' on network 'Cluster Network 1' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges."
How to fix this issues? is it missing any patch OS or cluster side?

Hello,
I've built an application using c#, visual studio 2005 and sql server 2000. The database is sitting on another machine on the network.
When I test the application from visual studio, it all works fine - no problems connecting to the database etc.
However, If I publish the website and move it to the same server as the database and set up the site and users through IIS etc, I get the following error
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
my connection string is

Hello all
I am new with SQL server express 2005 and i dont know what i am doing wrong.
I have an MS access database want to migrate to the SQL server.
Wizard upsize looks okay so it works on my local machine in the network.
The application stays in MS Access but the data goes to the SQL server.
On my server i enabled tcp/ip and pipes and i opened the firewall for SQLSERV and SQLBROWSER.
I installed the SQL Native Client and not SDK on the other computer in the network.
When i try to make a connection with the native client in the ODBC manager it goes wrong.
I dont know what i do wrong.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I'm tearing my hair out over the basics when I should be spending time learning ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. I've searched the archives and a lot of people seem to be getting the same error as me, but when trying to connect from remote machines.
I'm getting what seems to be a standard message ...
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I'm not trying to connect remotely, I'm on my developer machine. The error comes up when trying to connect from within VS2005 (Tools, Connect to Database). It also comes up if I create a new web-site and go to the ASP.NET configuration tool (this is, I guess, trying to create the necessary database behind the scenes but is unable to connect to the database).
I suspect the error might be related to one or more of the following ...
September last year I installed VS2005 Express and SQL*SERVER Express. Both were fully un-installed when I bought VS2005 Professional before installing the new product.
When I set up SQL*SERVER 2005 Developer I remember choosing an option to have a separate user on my PC with administrative rights. Actually I don't recall much about what I chose but I can't find out where those permissions are managed from.
I've followed various instructions to check that remote access is enabled (despite the fact that I'm local, not remote). TCP and Named Pipes are both enabled (and I stopped then restarted SQL Server). I've checked that the service is started.
The odd thing is that I have had an application connect with the following string ...
SSLCon = new SqlConnection(@"Server=(local)SSLMJ;Integrated Security = True;" + "Database=SSLTESTRESULTS");
Though the application connection seems to work ok, I think I'm missing out lots of developer functionality because I can't get VS2005 to see the database or server.

I have a DTS that pulls a file from a networked drive (generally using the u: designation) for part of its process. Recently, the server has been dropping network drive connections, so sometimes the DTS will fail (I'm not certain why it's dropping the connections, nor do I have the access or control to figure out such.)
I've been told that I should change the DTS package to use an explicit path (i.e., \serverfolder1folder2file.mdb instead of u:folder2file.mdb) to work around this problem. However, Enterprise Manager doesn't seem to like using this for the "File name" attribute in the connection properties. (This is an Access connection, if that matters.)
Is there any way to get the explicit path (probably the wrong terminology here) to work with the connection properties?

I am working on a computer connected to a network. I am using SQL 2000/XP on my computer so I can manage other sql servers on our network (I'll call them S1 and S2, both running SQL 2000)
I recently received a new computer running SQL 2005 Standard/Vista. When I try to connect to S1 and S2, I can’t find them anywhere. Am I overlooking some settings in 2005/vista?
I am a little inexperienced at this, so please let me know if any additional information would be helpful.

I have read many posts and documentation on the subject but have not been able to find the answer.So I am posting here in hope that someone could give me good answer.
We are developing an ording system in my company and with weborderingsystem and an backoffice system. We use windows2k3 where sqlserver 2005 is installed and running with our database. Our webapplication is working with this database and is connected to it. This works fine. I am developing backofficepart whick is an C# application and point of this app is that user can check out sent orders, look up orders and customers.
i use C# express to develop this, and use database explorer to try to connect to my the database.
My machine is running WinXp pro and server is win2k3 with SQL Server 2005 on it.
I get this error:
"The file \810....... is on a network path that is not supported for databasefiles....
the path is this:
\810-sql2k5allkopiprivat.testAllkopiPrivatTest.mdf
Can anyone give me an answer to tell me if this is possible at all or give me an suggestion on how to go about hsi problem. I need my application to connect to another machine on the network that is running SQL server.

I'm trying to connect to a sql server machine from another machine on the network and I'm getting this error:

More information about the machines:
All machines are on the same private netwrok, all in the same workgroup.
Machine1: this is the DB server, Win 2003 server, it has SQL 2005 developer edition, .Net runtime 2.0.
Machine2: trying to connect to machine 1, Win 2003 server, .Net runtime 2.0
On the DB server, TCP/IP is enabled with port 1433, also named pipes are enabled.
I checked the ERRORLOG and it says it's ready for connections and it's listening...Also there are no firewalls between the machines, I also added the sql server service .exe and the sql explorere .exe to the windows firewall exceptions on the DB server (although it's disabled)...
I'm not sure what else to do, I checked all sources online, applied anything related to this issue but not luck. This has wasted 3 hours of my time, this was a task that wouldn't take you a minute in older versions!! , Microsoft thinks it's making our life easier but in fact, I spend more time now on trouble shooting than before...
Let me know if you have a solution..

Am new to SQL Server 2005...actually this is my first day with it
am trrying to connect to SQL Server which resides on a 64-bit machine from a 32-bit machine using ODBC with a DSN aliasing thing
it gives me error msg "login failed for user XXX" with error state indicating that password missmatch or sometimes invalid user!!
i dont use the password i keep it blank and checked everything i could possibly think of...

I'm trying to connect to an instance of MSDE 2000 from Visual Studio 2005 over a home network. Although I know how to connect to a database from Visual Studio, I'm pretty clueless about configuring Sql Server to allow the connection (I can connect with no problem when I do so from the same computer). Also, with experimenting I've created a bunch of instances of Sql Server that I don't really need and am not sure how to get rid of them. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know if this will help, but I've already tried enabling all of the network protocols in the instance. Also, I can easily connect to an Access database over the network.

I want to connect the 2 clients to the server database in a simple clientserver arch.

I have created a DTS package that pulls data in from Oracle into SQLServer. When I run it directly on the server (from EnterpriseManager), it works fine. When I run it from Enterprise Manager on aclient machine that does not have the Oracle client software, it doesnot run, giving me the error: "The Oracle client and networkingcomponents were not found...". I was hoping I wouldn't need to havethe client software installed on a machine other than the server whereSql Server is running. The problem here is that there are a number ofmachines from where I would like to execute this DTS package that I donot want to install/configure the Oracle client software. I don'tquite understand why the configuration of the client is importanthere. In my mind, when I am using enterprise manager from a clientmachine, I am using it sort of like a terminal services client toconnect to the server. I have a database of Sql server 2000 in one of my windows XP machine. when iam trying to connect that database from other machine i am getting sql server does n't exist message. I can able to connect the sqlserver through the Enterprise manager but i can not connect the sqlserver through code.
I already used the same code to connect the sql server in windows 2000 machine and i connected to the database without any problem. but iam facing the problem with windows XP machine.

hi there - I'm praying someone here can shed some light on this - after many google and web searches, I have found users with similar issues, but have yet to find a solution.
Problem: I have recently upgraded my desktop from Windows XP to Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install) and have migrated my local machine to SQL Server 2005. However I have a number of .Net projects that access databased on another server running SQL Server 2000 - prior to my upgrade to Vista, I was running SQL Server 2000 on my desktop as well. During the install, everything seemed to go well, and I also installed the SQL Server 2005 Service pack as instructed via the MSDN site. However, when attempting to test my .net projects on my desktop pc (ie visit http://localhost), I encounter the error:

Can anyone shed some light on this? I've tried enabling remote access on my local SQL 2005 install, but I'm fairly sure thats for servers that want to connect to my desktop, rather than my desktop attempting to connect to external servers. Any help is greatly appreciated - I'm pulling my hair out over trying to figure this out! :)

I have a VB 2003 .NET application that I wrote for a customer that connects to a named instance of SQL 2000. Until recently it has been working fine. Lately the program either pops a timeout failure within a few seconds or a general network error. I've increased the connection timeout settings to 90 seconds but the error still pops within a few seconds. I'm thinking something has changed in the environment that prevents a clean connection to the named instance of SQL server.
How should this issue be troubleshoot to determine the problem and what areas need to be looked at?

I have a msaccess linked server that I use to execute sql 2000 stored procedures from a front end in adp (access data project) format without any problem, if it is used on the same machine where the sql server resides (with any user logged on). In any other machine on the local network where I also need to use it, I get an ole/db error message saying that the microsoft jet database engine can not open the file because it's allready opened exclusivly or because it do not has permissions. I created the linked server with both UNC and normal path with the same result.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE]
field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as

The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other

I have enterprise version software CD1 and CD2 of SQL server 2005
when i try to run setup.exe..the following error pops -up
The image file Setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine
MY OS version is windows 2003 32bit Operating system...
I am suspecting the binarie may be of 64bit.. How do we check the binaries are 32 bit and 64 bit software

Hi to everyone,
I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.

One is a standalone machine and the other is on a domain network. How can I run a stored procedure/job on the standalone machine from the domain machine ?
running the procedure as a Domain user results in a failed job/stored proc.
also creating an sql login and attempting to run it as that user also fails. How can I solve this problem ?

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Should have 330 rows if it works right.

Hi
While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears.
Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

Hi Every one,
I am using .Net 1.1 for my web application.
And my database server is SQL Server 2005.
My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,
General Network Error. Check your network documentation
I have also searched many articles and tried following solutions but nothing working
- connectiontimeout = 0, max pool size = 7500/100, pooling = false
- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)
Can any one please help me to solve this error?
