Connecting To Sql Server (within Windows Domain) Through Linux?

Hi,
I'm planning to develop a small intranet to provide our organization
with documents online. I've decided to do this using jsp/servlets
using a tomcat server. For an operating system, I have chosen red hat
linux. However, I'd like to keep a small database on a sql server as
a datasource. However, this sql server is already part of our
organization's windows domain. I suspect I'll need to configure samba
so that other terminals on the windows domain will be able to reach
the intranet. What's the best manner in which to connect my linux
servlets to this sql server database? I suspect this may be
difficult, considering the sql server exists within a windows domain,
but as a beginner, what do I know. Perhaps someone could point me in
the right direction.

Am trying to connect to SQL Server 2000 from a Debian Linux installation. What would be the best place to get documentation on this? Is using Open-TDS recommended (is there any other way)?

I'm trying to run a test from my test environment which is a non-domain Windows 2000 server to access my domain 2003 with SQL2005. I have install 2005 tools to try to access the SQL server.
- I have try following the KB265808 - no success.
- Reading alot of blogs and it seems all are pointing to the same problem. "Remote access" but the settign is enabled.Error Message:

Question: Could Windows 2003 security be blocking access? I'm using sa account to access.
Also, sa account does not seems to work for remote access. It is ok when accessing locally.

Please help me to find the solution for following problem.
I have my web server (with .NET 2.0 Framework) in one Domain(DMS01) where i have deployed my application (developed in ASP.NET 2.0). I have to access the database (SQL Server 2000) that belongs to another Domain(DMS02). How could i connect to the database that belongs to domain DMS02 from Web Application belonging to domain DMS01.

I have Opened firewall port to access 10.108.22.19 from 10.10.225.19
While connecting the SQL server €œSystem2inst2€? from the client machine enterprise manager with the SQL authentication, I am getting error Login failed for user €œTestUser1€?
And I have noticed in the SQL server log the login attempt shows under System2 default instance ( no instance). Actually I want to connect system2inst2.
Please let me know the steps to connect.

We have a Windows server that has 64-bit SQL installed on it. It is placed in 'abc' domain right now.

Hi,
My server administrator has created a few users as domain user privilege for connecting SQL server from my application. However it faild to connect, and
with Domain Admin privilege, my app is running ok.
I asked admin person to upgrade domain user privilege to connect SQL server,
but he couldn't do this for security reason, and told it should work with domain user.
Is it true for domain user to connect SQL server without any problem?
Do I need to add the user, domain user, into Logins of Security inside SQL server Enterprise Manager?
Or inside users of my database section of SQL server EManager?

Hi everyone, We currently have a server running SQL server 2000 and 2005 instances on our domain. The servers are used for a couple of different applications. Our network manager is implementing a domain change in the next few months, but isn't familiar with SQL servers. I was wondering if anyone knew about any possible issues with changing the domain the database server machine is connected to. The computer name won't change, and neither will the server instances. I am currently runinng Sql Server 2000 on a Windows 2003 domain controller. I cannot access my local sql server using windows authentication. All i receive is a cannot generate SSPI context error. I understand this is probably related to a security policy issue on the domain controller. Also Sqlserveragent service will not remain running and shutdowns immediately after it is started. This also produces an SSPI context error in the error log. If anyone can help with my configuartion of windows server 2003 such that sql server will recognize a valid sysadmin role for my domain admin account it would be greatly appreciated.

I have an xp dev machine i use which has sql server 2005. I skipped installin sp1 on sql server and went to sp2 directly. I tried over and over again but getting following errors. Not sure how to fix it.

my domain was upgraded from nt to 2003 long time ago from phxnt1 to phxad1 which i dont know why it still try's to use the old account. The old domain is still online would this cause this problem not sure.

Subject problem has me quite vexed.
I am receiving the following error when attempting to access reporting services... to sum things up real nice and tidy-
I get three login prompts - then the access denied response. It is almost as if it is unable to authenticate the user... anyway... here's the actual error response, I'd really appreciate any input/insight/resolution.

Can anyone help me with a problem I have with SSRS 2005? How do I configure SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to deliver subscription e-mails to addresses external to my windows domain?
I've been having trouble configuring the Report Server e-mail delivery component to send subscription e-mails to addresses outside the domain on which the report server is hosted.
For e.g. since my local windows domain is named "smartsystems.com", I have found that the Report Manager does not have any problems sending subscription mails to "eawagu@smartsystems.com" but throws up an error whenever I include "eawagu@yahoo.com" in the recipients' list.
Any insights?

Can't get winmobile 5 to connect to my sql server 2005 (using vs2005). Here's the connect string:
"Data Source=tcp:XXXXXXdefault,1433;Database=YYYYYY;" _
& "Integrated Security=SSPI;"
This very same string, and variations of it, work in a vs2005 winforms app, but not a windows mobile 5. I'm (obviously) using system.data.sqlclient. MS documentation says it's supported on both platforms with no syntax changes. Any suggestions?

I am trying to pull data from an Oracle 9i database to my SQL Server 2005 sp1 database on Windows 2003 64bit Itanium server. Each time I try to use the import wizard, select the Microsoft OLE DB driver for Oracle, I get an error message telling me that the Oracle client tools are not installed. This happened after I had already installed the 9i tools, tested the connection using TNSPING and confirmed the tnsnames file was correct. So, I uninstalled the 9i tools and then installed the 10g client tools. Tested everything after the install and then tried the import again selecting the MS OLE DB driver for Oracle. I again got the error message that the Oracle tools were not installed.
has anyone ran into this problem and if so, were you able to fix it?

Hello!I'm migrating an IIS/SQL-Server application from Windows NT4.0 and SQL-Server 2000 to Windows 2003 Server and SQL-Server 2005.My problem is that it is not possible to connect local (IIS and SQL-Server 2005 are runnng on the same node) using ODBC. Running theapplikation on a remote IIS (XPPro) all works fine. I can't see anydifferences in the ODBC-configuration.Any idea?Thanks

I have installed SQL Server 2005 onto a server and then on my client machine I have installed SQL Server 2005 and the Server Management Studio.
When installing it on the server I chose all the defaults so have not setup an sql username or password to connect as I thought I could use Windows.
I go to the Server Management and registered servers, create a new one and enter the ip address of the server and choose Windows Authentication. The following error keeps appearing though and I am not sure what settings/where to check:
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I have checked and think port 1443 is open on the server, tcpip is enabled but when I choose Windows authentication I cannot enter a username or password as it is greyed out. It has completed the username but no password and these are not the correct ones to connect to the server - I wish to wish the same one I use for RDC.
Or should I try SQL Authentication and if so how would I set this up? Cannot see on the server in SQL Configuration where I could set this?
Hope someone who knows a lot more than me on this can help!

I have a scenario where I want to make a linked server query and report using windows service account credential. I can able to do link query if I RDP into the Server where linked server established using the service account and run query successfully  but local client SSMS with my credential fails connecting linked server or querying. Looks to be a sql double hoping problem if so configuration each client domain account to enable delegation will be challenging as mentioned in the following articles instead service account only might work if possible.

Hi All,
After I installed sql server 2005 64bit standard edition on Windows Server Enterprise 2008 64bit, I cannot connect to the sql instance using the sql management studio on the same machine!
I verified that:
service is running,
in surface area configuration: remote connections to local and remote are enabled, for TCP/IP and named pipes.
ran the command netstat -avn| findstr 49279 to make sure that the server is listening.
firewall is off, but this does not matter since I'm connecting locally to local instance
I'm using domain controller account to login to sql server / also tried the sa account.
what else can be wrong?

If a thief yanks (technical term) a hard-drive containing a SQL Server 05 database from a server and then installs it on a server in a different domain, is there any way he could connect to it? This question assumes that a hacker didn't somehow transfer the domain logins.
Could the local admin even add himself as a user to the database without having the admin login information from the previous domain?

Hi-I have a program that I am developing on a laptop, then deploying it on a server.I have the prgram running passing a username and PW in the connection object, but like the idea of using windows authentication MUCH better.I just joined the domain, so I am domain/me for example.If I log into the server, and look at securities, logins and added domain/me to the logins.I then try and set up a sql connection via both visual studio, and sql server magt studio, and get the dreaded "Cannot generate SSPI context" error. Anyone else have this problem? SHOULD V.S. be using domain/me to connect? TIA dan

Hi!
I have installed MSDE 2000 in "Mixed Windows and SQL mode authentication with network access" .following is the command:
setup.exe DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SAPWD="password" INSTANCENAME="TempInstance" SECURITYMODE=SQL
Then I created the database TempDB in it.
When I try to connect this database from my program running on my machine , it works fine. But when i try to connect to it from the same program running on a different machine on the same domain.It gives error:
"SQL Server does not exist or access denied ."
Even when i run the same program in my machine to access the same TempDB database on a remote machine that is not in my domain, it works fine.
this is my connection string:
Data Source={Database server's IP Address}TempInstance;Initial Catalog=TempDB;User ID=sa;PWD=password;

Hi,
I have a client running in a Domain A and a SQL server running in Domain B using Windows security. We don't want to put SQL Server in the mixed authentication mode.
I created a local group on de SQL server. Gave the group correct rights.
Added users from Domain A to that group. Although he prompted me for username password from Domain A it did work.
There is currently no trust between those domains. What kind of a trust should it be ? I believe that a one way trust where B trusts A should be enough.
Any suggestions.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to connect via SQL Server Management Studio to a server sitting on a separate domain. So here is the situation. there is Server B which sits in a domain called DomainB. If I am in DomainA, I could typically remote into that server utilizing an IP address in DomainB, and even transfer files to that server. But how do I connect via SQL Server Management Studio(basically login as a different domain user) to Server B in DomainB from DomainA. Basically when I choose Windows Authentication from the dropdown list in SQL Server Management Studio, it grays out the username field, which is where I could type something like this domainBusernameondomainB, similar to how you would connect to a share on that server. Please let me know if there is a possibly solution to this. Also, our customer doesnot allow SQL Server Auth/Logins, so that is not an option. Thanks.

I am trying to establish connection from different domain using ODBC driver with no luck!
I am able to do it within my domain from any place, but it fails from outside. I have two-ways trust established between domains. Users are able to see and use resources both ways.
When I create ODBC it doesn't matter if I use SQL or Windows NT authenctication, I am getting error:
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQLServer Error: 11004
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Connection Open (getbyhostname()() )
Connectio Failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 11
I tried to set it with TCP Static Port or Dynamic. No difference.
What should I look into?
Any ideas? Any help?

We have a SQL 2005 box that requires windows authentication but I have to connect a laptop that is not part of the domain. Is there any way to do this? Per company policy, the SQL server cannot be changed to use SQL Auth AND Windows Auth. Also per policy, the user's laptop cannot be joined to the domain since it's not a company laptop.
I've tried using the following command:
net use \SQLServerNameipc$ /user:DomainNameDomainAccount Password
and then using enterprise manager to register the sql server but it still says that the computer is not trusted.
Is there something else to this that I am missing or is this just not possible?

We are planning implementation of a currently Sybase db. The users (about 3600) will be i 5 domains and we want single sign-on through trusted connections. We want to use the database roles to define different user access on databases and tables. There will be around 2000 roles. We also want to add the users directly to the database roles without having to grant each user database access.
So I thought that I could add the user groups from all domains and then add each domain user account to specified database roles. Am I right here or what? The Windows authentication will lookup or check the users kerberos ticket during logon process and allow logon.
The documentation here is weak and I assume it's a windows authentication question but wondered if any of you guys had been down the same road.
For creating the groups I have the following options:
Create a domain group and put all the usergroups from the other domains in this group
Add user groups from all other domains directly into the SQL Server.
Any recommendations here?
