Contains Keyword For Integer Field Type

Feb 17, 2007

I have a field ID of type integer, I want to put two numbers in that field: 3 and 7, so what I do is just store the number 37.

Now, is there a command in SQL server which checks if the ID field contains a number I look for, say 7.
Something like a CONTAINS keyword...

If there is, could someone please tell me what it is AND tell me a bit more about it :memory usage, (dis)advantages etc.

Conversion From Type 'SqlInt32' To Type 'Integer' Is Not Valid]

Jun 30, 2007

Hi all,
I am developing ASP.NET 1.1 application using VB.NET & SQL Server, on my machine I am using SQL Server 2000, and everything is working just fine.
The problem appears when I uploaded the site to the Host, they are using SQL Server 2005, is there any reason for this, I am using casting in the code, and I am sure there is something wrong with the hosting settings.
Any suggestions.

Execute Sql Task To Set Output Parameter Of Type Integer

Jun 1, 2006

I'm having a heckuva time with creating output parameters based on a query.

Here's what I'm doing. Every day, we copy rows from our mysql table to our sql server table. We only want to copy those rows that are new, so as to not have to recopy the entire table.

So I have a DataReader Source set to Ado.net/odbc provider that connects to the mysql db.
The destination is an OLE connection to the local sql server.

I create an Execute SQL Task.
The connection is set to the OLE connection
The type is direct input
The SQL Statement is "select max(id) from copy_table"

In Parameter Mapping, I create a user variable called maxId that is an int64. That variable is now used as the Variable Name. The Direction is Output. The Parameter Name is 0.

Whatever data type I use for the mapping does not work with the variable type. If the parameter was set to ULARGE_INTEGER, here's the error
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "SELECT MAX(stats_id) AS max_id FROM copy_table" failed with the following error: "Type name is invalid.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

If parameter is set to LONG:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "maxId": "The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::maxId" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object. ".

I found that if variable and parameter were dates to use datetime for the variable and DBTIMESTAMP for the parameter.

There are an awful lot of combinations between all the possible variable types, and the possible parameter types. Does anyone know the secret combination for your typical integer?

Thanks,
Lori

Type Cast Error Converting From Integer To String

Oct 30, 2007

I am attempting to convert an integer value to a string using the Derived Column transformation with the following expression on the field:
(DT_STR,10,1252)prod_id

prod_id is an integer. I was able to do this before however, in the past couple of days, this has failed with the following error:
"An error occurred while attempting to perform a type cast."

To my knowledge, I have not changed anything about this particular data flow within the past couple of days. I have verified that the value is coming in as an integer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bit Field Vs. Integer With Nulls

Aug 27, 2004

If I have a field where 99.9% of the time the answer is going to be "No", would I be better, in terms of disk space, using:

A bit field

OR

A tiny int field, with a NULL for the 99.9% that are "NO", and a 1 for those that are "YES".

I'm using SQL Server 7.0.

My application developer has no preference.

Getting An Integer Range Out Of A String Field

Oct 9, 2007

We have account numbers that are string values, looking like: "01.02.02.00.0040.000.000".

We need to parse individual segments and pull out a range of values treating the segment like an integer. For example we would like all accounts that have the fifth segment ranging in values from .0040. through .0060. inclusive.

We've been trying to do something with the like clause: LIKE '__.__.__.__.[0-0][0-0][4-6][0-0]'.

We want 40 through 60 but we're getting 40, 50, and 60. If we change the last bracket to [0-9] we get 40 through 69.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to either fix our like clause or another approach?

Thanks.

John

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Blank Space In Integer Data Type Column View

Apr 4, 2014

I am dealing with what I believe is Oracle that is the source of a SQL View.

I am seeing a data type of Integer in the View, but I am not able to see what makes up that View. When I query the View, I can see that an Integer data type column is storing a blank space. I use ISNUMERIC(ColumnName) = 0 and there are a lot of rows that show as a zero length blank space, or text, or something. I just know that it is not an Integer.

I have attempted to CAST and Convert this value, but it will not. I have changed the data type on the table that is being inserted in too, and it still fails with a Conversion error. I have tried REPLACE(), but still the same conversion error.

Informix Date Type Field To SQL Server Datetime Field Error

Oct 17, 2007

I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part

I tried a couple of things:

Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.

Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.

What options do I have that will work?

DB Design :: Convert Integer Date (MMDDYY) And Integer Time (HHMMSS) To DateTime Format?

Jul 20, 2015

Working on a new database where the Date and Time are stored in a Date Time Field.

Then working on an OLDER database file within the same SQL Database contains these 2 items as integers:

transDate = "71615" (July 16, 2015)
transTime = "12345" (01:23:45 AM)

How do we convert both of them into a single SQL DateTime field such as "2015-07-16 01:23:45.000" so that it can be used in a join restricting to a date time in a different SQL File that properly has the DateTime in it?

This works well for converting the transDate Part in the select statement:

   dbo.IntegerToDate(at.transDate) as transDate

   * That returns: "2015-07-16 00:00:00.000"

* The resulting data must work directly in a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Query using either using the "on" statement or part of the "where" clause. In other words, NOT as a stored procedure!

Also must be able to be used as a date difference calculation when comparing the 2 files Within say + or - 5 seconds.
