We are migrating data from old DB2 systems to sql server 2012, the DATE FORMAT in those systems is in decimal format with 7 digits. CYYMMDD format.
I need to convert this into DD/MM/YYYY format.
New to SQL and have a hopefully simple ???I have a select statement that returns a date field in the yyyy-mm-ddhh:mm:ss format. I would like to find a way to strip off the hh:mm:ssportion and return the date only. Thanks for the assist

Hi,
I have a question regarding the date format.
In product table, we have 'received date' and 'sales date' and the following is the format:
'2007-02-06 00:00:00.000'
I want to convert this format to week like : 'W 50 -2007'
And the following is the syntax :
Code Block
SELECT 'W'+' ' + convert(varchar(2),d.week_number)+ '/'+ convert(varchar(4),d.year_number)
FROM Product p
INNER JOIN Date d on d.full_date = p.received_date
I can get the right result but is there any function to convert date to week so that I can avoid to use join to date dimension?
Any kinds of advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
i am trying to convert a string like this 'le dd/mm/yyyy' into a datetime.I have removed the 'le ' part and used covert(datetime, 'dd/mm/yyyy',103) to convert into datetime. This works for example for 'le 22/11/1799' but for 'le 09/11/1716' it does not work.
select convert(datetime,RIGHT('le 22/11/1799', LEN('le 22/11/1799') - 3), 103) -> it works
select convert(datetime,RIGHT('le 09/11/1716', LEN('le 09/11/1716') - 3), 103) -> it does not work
Hoe to convert date format
My table contains date as " 13FEB2015:08:54:45 " need to be change in datetime or date.
I have a date "4/25/2007"
but the requirement is to have data as "04/25/2007" in datamart.
if month is single digit it should have leading zeroes, same with date,
can some tell me how to convert this.
Is there a way of converting a datetime data type in the form [DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS] to an integer containing just the time in the form [HHMMSS].

The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.
here is sample query:

I am using SSIS to load raw files into database. In my files I have columns Date which has format
1/1/2010 12:00:00 PM.
I want to load this column in format 1/1/2010 24:00:00. I mean in 24 hour format.
I've a text file which having a datetime column value like YYYY-MM-DD-HH.MM.SS.XXXXXX. I cannot convert this is to datetime format from text file using BCP utility.
Presence of hypen "-" between DD and HH, the SQL server does not accept this is as Datetime.
Is there any option to covert the date value in format file in BCP.
I am converting an Access 2003 database into SQL 2005 Express for purposes of evaluating the SQL server environment as a future home for my data. One of the motivating factors in the conversion is the integration of LINQ with VB 2008.
Assuming that there was no conversion tool to migrate Access forms for use with SQL and VB 2008, I converted the Access data table and used the VB 2008 form designer to databind textbox controls to fields in the converted SQL database. Here are some basic questions:
The conversion from Access to SQL apparently did not include the default numeric formatting (currency, percentage, etc.) which was part of the Access data table. Is there a place in the SQL server environment to supply a default data format so that forms and reports referencing the field do not need to be manually formatted for each reference?
After converting the data table and spending 2 hours designing the dataform for the 80+ fields, I inadvertantly changed the table structure and found that the dataform was not happy (oops). I corrected the databindings manually for the few errant field references, but wonder if there is some wizard to do this automatically?
Is there a way to print out the dataform itself? I used the following code snippet in my Access form code-behind and I wonder if there is an equivalent VB 2008 function:
Code Snippet
DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acEditMenu, 8, , acMenuVer70
DoCmd.PrintOut acSelection
Finally, Access can instantly change from dataform to datasheet presentation screens. Can this be done in VB 2008 with two views simultaneously presenting the same SQL data?
Please excuse my naivete, but in contrast to Access 2003 where program functionality is encapsulated into readily apparent controls, menus, and dialogs, the SQL server environment seems foreign, spartan, and all the words are different. Thanks, -BGood
Can anybody please answer this :
From SQL Server, how to generate a text document which can be read in StarOffice Writer ??
SQL Server may call another application to do it, but how ?
I have no clue -- please help.
Note: The text document should NOT be an MS Word document.

What exactly it means for the primary and secondary?
I have been working with a BI colleague to access the readable secondary through SSRS. For some reason it keeps complaining that ApplicationIntent is not recognized keyword. I am starting to think it's something to do with the driver for SSRS.

Hi guys, im having bigtime problems transfomring a list of working hours into a readable report.
I got a db with a table that looks like this:
Userid Login Logout
22006-11-20 13:22:002006-11-20 22:31:00
22006-11-19 12:31:002006-11-19 17:31:00
22006-11-18 10:31:002006-11-18 17:31:00
I need to transform that data into this:
Weeknumber Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
46 0 0 0 0 0 7 0
47 9.15 0 0 0 0 0 5
All i got so far is this query:
SELECT DATEPART(ww, login) as weeknumber , DATENAME(dw, login) AS day, DATEDIFF(minute, login, logout) / 60.0 as hours
FROM timeliste
WHERE userid = '2'
Which isnt even close to what I want, can anyone give me some clues on what I should do to get it right?
I have a table that contains the following two columns:BITS (image(16))BIT_LENGTH (int(4))When I look at the table, I see "OLE Object" in the BITS column. Whatsyntax should I use in a SELECT statement to convert the binary imageinfo contained in "BITS" into simple text that I can read? What roledoes the BIT_LENGTH field play?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello,I am receiving a text file that is produced from a mainframe that isout of my control. I am attempting to find a (hopefully clean) way toimport it into a SQL Server database in an automated fashion. I amnot really concerned about how many tables it requires or what theschema looks like as long as the data remains related and ends up inits respective fields (I will probably use scratch tables for this). The data is given to me in a format that is meant to be printed outand read by human eyes (in a text file). The format looks somethinglike this:Begin File:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------1234 1234 1234 1234 XYZ Company 01/01/2003.......More stuff related to XYZ company for a couple of lines ..............(this stuff can easily be parsed by position).......MCARD VISA AMEX DISC-------------------------------------------------------------------------------TOTAL 11111.11 4444.44 5555.55 30.01TRANS FEE .20 .20 .15 .15TRANS AMOUNT 2222.22 888.89 833.33 4.50DISC .0165 .0165 .0365 .0355-------------------------------------------------------------------------------ANOTHER HEADER............More stuff related to XYZ Company................End File:Well, this isn't the exact format, but just an example. The point isthat all of the data in each column is related and should end up inthe same record which is related to the parent record of XYZ Company(or all in a single record in a single table if that is the closest Ican get). Also, the rows are not always present. For example, if TRANS FEEdoesn't apply to anything in the row, then the entire row willcollapse and TRANS AMOUNT would be the next line after TOTAL.I was looking at the bcp utility and dts, but dts doesn't seem to havethe performance capabilities (or reliability for that matter) I amlooking for. Bcp seems like it might work if there is some advancedformatting commands that I can't find in the documentation - Anyone? The best I can come up with is to use a high level language such as C#or VB.NET to parse the text file into another text file that is commadelimited, and then use the bcp utility (or bulk insert) to import itinto SQL Server where I can then use TSQL to manipulate it how I want.I am trying to eliminate the high level language parse and just gostraight from file to database. Does anybody know an easier route?TIA

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
We have a large database table with an IMAGE field holding documents of < 1MB size.
Over time this table has become quite large and operations on it have become slow.
My question is, would changing from IMAGE to varbinary(max) make the binary storage more efficient thereby making the table operations faster.
Also, would the table size be smaller with varbinary(max)?
Thanks
Can anyone tell me what varbinary casts to ?? can I do this int[] temp=(int)DataReader["varbinaryColumn"]. Or is byte[] temp the appropiate protocol.

i want to do something with this database but i don't know how:
there is this column that is varbinary and i want to replace just one part of its content, for example:
this is its content:
'CC08FF806785'
and i just want to change the FF for AA.
i tried using query analyzer with this:
update table
set column=replace(column,'FF','AA')
but it says something like conversion isn't allowed from data varchar to varbinary and that i should use the function "convert" but i don't know how to use that!
does anyone know how to do that?
thanks!
I want to store JPG files in my table... So far I know varbinary datatype can be used to store large object types like images, documents etc.How do I add records for this data type in table

HiI moved to SQL Server 2005 (from 2000) and noticed there is a bettervariable to deal with binary arrays.I hava a table that hold 9 columns of images (BLOB). each array has adifferent size and can be larger than 4k.I've changed the column data type from image to varbinary(max). After the chnage, the size of the table grew from 22MB to 26MB.Any idea why? I though the new variable should be better.I have another table where there are 3 columns with binaries, the sizeof the arrays there is much smaller and vary from 32bytes to 150byteslong. when I changed the data type to varbinary the size of the tableshrunk by half!!now I'm completely confused...Gilad.

Hello,
Would you please be kind to answer my question !
I have developed an ASP.NET Web application using SQL Server Express 2005 in my local PC where I have used VarBinary(MAX) for an image data storage. It is working fine in my computer. Now, I have configured my SQL Server 2005 in my production server using MyLittleAdmin, I found that, I can not set the value MAX for VarBinary, so I am forced to enter the value of varBinary = 8000. Now, When I insert image to this field more than 8KB, I get the following message,
"String or binary data would be truncated."
So, what does it mean, Is it not really possible to store image or file data in VarBinary which is more than 8KB ? if yes, then how can I configure my table for that using MyLittleAdmin ?
Regards
I have been instructed to setup a database that will allow the storing of files in binary format. I have looked at using the varbinary(max) data type on a column to store the information. I am not sure based on books online how much information this can store. I have files that could be as large as 5-10 GB in size. Will SQL 2005 support storing these in binary format with that data type?
