I am very new to SSIS though I have written hundreds of SQL 2000 dts' with all kinds of active scripts doing all kinds of things. I am now trying to convert them to SSIS and since scripts don't come through the migrator I am doing them by hand once again. I have the package created, but one of the input fields on the text file is YYYYMMDD , but the database field it is going into is a datetime so I need to convert it to a valid date format so that the conversion will take place. I tried data conversion task but that doesn't work, now I'm assuming I need to use the derived column, but not sure and don't have a clue how to use that, can anyone help? Thanks bostonrose

I am trying to import a txt file that has a string for it's date. How do I change it over in the import wizard I've tried going to advance then changing from string to date or date time but I get an error.
I have a calendar parameter in one of my reports. The values of the calendar are of the form 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:mms'. And they are string values.
Now when I generate the report I have a textbox that takes the parameter label (e.g., parameter!calendar.label). However, I would like to format (or trim) the label as just 'yyyy-mm-dd'. Does anyone know how I can do this? I tried to change the parameter value format to datetime but this just throws an invalid datatype error...
The source is a flat file with a column where dates are stored as: 07/12/2006 11:35am. In some cases the column is blank.
I need to import this into a table with a datetime column. In the data flow task, I get the error that conversion b/w String and DB_Timestamp is not allowed. First question is why does SSIS think its a DB_Timestamp column? Shouldnt it be DB_Date or DB_Time. Anyway, when I add a Data Conversion Task in the Data Flow, and cast to the source column to either DB_TimeStamp, DB_Date or DB_Time I get an error.

I've imported a CSV file into a table in SQL Server 2012. It's a large file, 140,000+ rows, so I couldn't covert it to Excel first to preserve the date format due to Excel's row limit. In the CSV file, there were 3 column with date data in "31-Aug-09" format, and the import automatically transformed these in "31AUG09" format (varchar(50)) in SQL Server. Now I need to convert these 3 columns from varchar to datetime so I could work with them in date format.
All source and target date fields are defined as data type "smalldatetime". The "select" executes without error though when used with "insert into" it fails with the error:

I have been trying to read a flat file which has a birthdate field. The field is string and the format is "011594". I have been trying to convert it to a date field in the following format "01/15/1994". Using the forum I was able to write the following expression but I am still keep getting error messages.
I also noticed few records are missing birthdate and few do not have the complete birthdate which means some birthdates are missing year and some are missing month. For example, some are completely missing and some are partially missing, like " " or "0312 ". Could this be the reason I was getting error message since the following expression does not include null and incomplete date of birth?

In my package , I am used CDC Source transformation and received the Net changes then insert into Destination. But whatever Data coming from CDC source data type Varchar value needs to Converting Non Unicode string to Unicode string SSIS. So used Data conversion transformation to achieved this. I need to achieve this without data conversion.

I am trying to upload data from CSV to Sql table. I have a column as 'arrived_date' value '13:45' etc and while trying to load data i am getting error as "data conversion failed ,truncation may occur while loading data". In flat file connection this column datatype is string but in my table datatype is as time(). There is a error with conversion. I tried to change data type in advanced editor but no use. Using data conversion after flatfile makes my error disappear but it is giving error right at the file not even going through from file?
We are using lookup transformation in SSIS 2012. The lookup transformation queries a table with two date columns. When we hover the mouse over the two columns in the 'columns' tab of the lookup transformation editor, the two columns show as DT_WSTR instead of DT_DBDATE. Hi,We have stored proc name proc_test(str nvarchar(30)). So far this prochas been invoked from a .NET application assuming that only Englishcharacter strings will be passed to it. The calls are likeproc_test('XYZ')We now have a requirement for passing Chinese strings as well. Ratherthan changing the calls throughout the application, we would like tohandle it in the stored procedure so that it treats the string as aunicode string. Can we apply some function to the parameter to convertit to unicode so that we don't have to call with an N prefixed to thestring?Thanks,Yash

I am trying to convert a decimal date value to a date value that I can use in formulas but am having a lot of trouble.My date value currently shows in decimal format YYYYMMDD. I want to convert this to a date so I can then find the number of days between two dates.I have tried convert (datetime, convert(varchar(8),left(qhstdt,8))) with qhstdt as my decimal date field but I receive the error message below:

I have also tried converting it using (year(QHSTDT)*10000+100*month(QHSTDT)+ day(QHSTDT))) but when I convert the dates using this formula, I can get an incorrect number of days when I try to subtract one from the other.What formula can I use to convert my YYYYMMDD field to a format that will allow me to compare number of days between two dates?
I have a fixed-width flat file that I'm importing to a SQL table in a data flow task. The first field is an ID field, of length 12, that I'm told I can assume is an INT datatype. Obviously, it's a little silly to shove an integer that can be a max of 10 digits into a 12 digit field... but that's my situation.
I set the columns on the flat file connection manager to be inputColumnWidth of 12, and datatype of DT_I4. When I try to run the package, I get the error (understandably): The data conversion for column "ID" returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
What are my options here? I'm going to assume that even though the width is 12 characters, only an integer will appear in those spaces. I attempted to use a derived column and a type cast, but to no avail. Help would be appreciated... thanks!
