how can i copy entire data from sql server express and put it in another sql server express
I'm current copying data tables to other tables that don't, some which don't allow duplication of data, i'm dealing with about 40 tables. the insert errors when i try the full copy process, is there a way of saying copy the data if it's not there?
and if there is matching data ignore....... I have seen there is - if exist() would this work in this work in this case.
the only thing i can think of is to delete all the data from the table which in some case will lead to a loss of data- bad times :)
I'm trying to take data and push it into a new database.
This data was taken from a database where there were many contraints, FK etc. quite a complicated structure and now sent to us with just the data in the tables with none of these constraints, FK!!
This data now needs pushing into the original database structure, so all the data will live within the constraints, but using an insert SPROC throws some FK errors, what is the best way to push this data into it's structure!
somebody suggested DTS but this doesn't take into account the constraints, also we need to run this at anytime for a number different datasets. Can anybody help ?(if you can decipher my explantion)
Many thanks for reading, please indicate if you need more info.
I would like to copy my msde database so I can deploy it together with my webpage on another pc. Do I simply just copy the .mdf file or is there another way to extract it?
Hi,My questions is we want to make a copy of a database onto the sameserver while preserving the diagrams, stored procs, etc.We stopped the SQL service and made a copy of the data and log files. We attempted to ATTACH the file copies (after re-naming them), but theembedded file information tells SQL that the database already exists. Our database is a piece of junk, but we must use it. If we don't wantto use the IMPORT/EXPORT Wizard to Copy Objects (because we get someerrors during the transfer), how can we make an exact copy of theDatabase onto the same server while giving the "new" database adifferent name? Thanks:DHRUV
I have and ASP.NET and VB.NET application that needs to copy selected stored procedures from one SQL Server to another SQL Server. The scenerio is that the user will select a source server from a drop down list then the source database from another dropdown listbox which then populates a listbox with the stored procedures in the database. They can select multiple stored procedures from the listbox.
Once selected, they select a target SQL Server from a dropdownlist and then a target database from another dropwdown list. I have a command button that they need to do the actual move but I am not sure how to get the selected source stored procedures copied to the target database. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have an Excel add-in that connects to a SQL Server Express 2005database. I've decided to create a configuration piece for this add-inin Visual Studio 2005 Express. I added a data connection using the dataconnection wizard and all appeared to go well. Anyways when I attemptto open SQL Server Express to administer the database, it was corruptedand I had to restore it.I eventually got it to work correctly (I'm pretty sure I followedpretty much the same steps as before), but I was just wondering ifanyone had experienced problems like this? I find it a bit scary thatit may be that easy to corrupt the database by just creating a dataconnection.
is there any way that i can copy primary key(PK) value to another field in the same table .. say my PK is MemberID i want to replicate that into other field say SortID at the same time when the primary key is incrementing. First, I consider myself a novice in Mssql. I've recently began the revision of a website that uses MS Sql Server 2000. In a effort to set up a working environment on my pc, I asked to get a copy of the sql server database. The response was something like "I'm not going to do that!" or "that's too much effort" which left me baffled. Furthermore, the size of the database shouldn't be the issue.
In Access all that is needed is the .mdb file to copy a database. In Sql Server is it that more complicated? My questions are as follows
How does someone copy a sql server database to another pc? Were they expecting that I remotely test with Sql Server? Is that possible or practical? Isn't it prefered to have the db localized?
It looks like these options are only available in the SQL Server Management Studio? I installed SQL Server Management Express Studio and I can't even find the DTSWizard.exe on my machine.
Can you please help how I can import data from excel or where can I download the SQL Server Management Studio?
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.

I have managed to add the DTS wizard as a tool and saved the routine. However, I do not know how to schedule my PC to automatically run this DTS procedure. I have tried to use scheduled tasks, but it does not seem to want to start.
As you can see it just has all the 50 states and I have a datatable called HdrStateProv with three fields, stateProvID, stateProvNme, CountryID in my SQL Server Express. How would I import(map) this data there? I tried the sqlbulkimport KB article but does that not seem to work. Thanks for your time!
I have following all the steps but I am getting this error:
--------------------------- Microsoft Visual Studio --------------------------- The designer extension DATASET could not be loaded. Check the configuration file RSReportDesigner.config. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
I have doubled checked the edits I made to that config file. Rebooted, relaunched, etc. No matter what, I cannot get past that error message.
I am using a Win XP machine with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2. Just curious, but does express version support CDEs?
Hi all, Thanks in advance, I have to transfer data from sql express 2005 to sql mobile(.sdf).
Actually i have a sql server express 2005 (sqlee) in laptop... and the .sdf (sqlce) handheld device (ppc) that has been connected by activesync.
Can you please make it clear for my following questions? 1. Is it possible to write a query like " insert into ....sdf select from...sqlexp...." between 2 servers...? 2. Is there any copy command like a BULKCOPY .. to insert all records to .sdf (sqlce) from sql server express?
(or) 3. Is it correct to create a smart device application (CF 2.0) to transfer data between sql express and .sdf by using active sync...?
Hi there, i have sometimes trouble to write data to a table in a sql server expr. database.
i have a vb.net application that writes every 2 minutes data to a table. sometimes (no regulary phenomen) the error appears after some hours, sometimes after some days. then i cannot write data in the table. it seems that the database sleeps or is offline.
before i write the data i check if the connection is open and i can write data. if i cannot write the data i try several times and often after the third try i can write the data.
i have checked everything (no power save's on or other power off modes)
i have also test it with SqlClient.SqlConnection.ClearAllPools()
and many other things to find the bug, but no success at the moment.
it seems that the database or the table is away ?? or sleeps for some seconds ?!? i have no idea.
I have software that uses SQL Server Express as it's database. I am only able to import so many records until it stops and fails to allow me to import anymore.
I'm very new at this but, is there some type of limitation on Table size that's preventing me from importing anymore data?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me,

I would like to import an Excel file into my SQL Server 2005 Express db. I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage my db. I appreciate your suggestions,
Hi!I have this table:Units -id uniqueidentified (PK), -groupName NVARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, -name NVARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, -ratio float NULL and the stored proc that simply returns all rows:ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.ilgSP_GetUnitsAS SELECT [id], [groupName], [name], [ratio] FROM [Units] ORDER BY [groupName], [name]If I select 'Show Table Data' in Visual Studio 2005 I see all rows from the table. If I 'Execute' my stored from VS 2005 I get this:Running [dbo].[ilgSP_GetUnits].id groupName name ratio -------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- No rows affected.(1 row(s) returned)@RETURN_VALUE = 0Finished running [dbo].[ilgSP_GetUnits].And I don't get any data in my ASP.NET application. WHY?Thanks!
Well, what I want is to be able to do some tooling on a database (.sdf) on my WM5 device using C# Express 2008.
The problem is that when I select the "Tools/Connect to database" option, I choose my data source to be "Sql Server Compact 3.5" in the next screen, and when I press Continue, I am taken to the next screen, and here I cannot select the "ActiveSync connected device" in the "Data Source" section...it is disabled. The only option is selecting "My computer"...but I do not need that.
Is there something I need to install in order to activate that option?
I need to use the SQLDataSource in Visual Web Developer (VWD) 2005 Express websites. The SQLDataSource must have the .mdf data in the project application. But I have a volume of the .mdb data for evaluation by using T-SQL of the SQL Server 2005 Express and VWD 2005 Express program. Is it possible to convert existing data from .mdb to .mdf? If it is possible, please tell me what software program to use and how to do it.
I am trying to load data from an Excel spreadsheet file into SQL Server 2005 Express. I understand that DTS is the best tool for doing this but from my research it appears that DTS is not available with the Express edition and the import wizard that does come with Express is not well suited for this type of conversion.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to achieve this objective? Thanks for any help you can provide.
I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express, Windows XP SP2. I connect using Windows authentication.
The data source that I'm trying to hit is on a remote server. It's an OpenLink ODBC Data source, and the server is in another location. SQL Server 2005 Express and the ODBC connection are both installed/configured locally on my machine.
I can connect to the remote server. The DSN exists as a System DSN.
The DSN has its own proprietary configuration utility, which I can configure so that the server name is XPLILLEYGSQLEXPRESS. The configuration utility doesn't care; I connect successfully one way or the other.
When I open Management Studio Express, I can see my database (CMS) listed under the "Databases" folder, but there's no tables in there, other than the system tables.
I developed nice reports using custom data processing extensions. When I deployed the reports on my report server (I am using the express edition of SQL Server 2005) I was surprised to see that my reports were not rendering successfully.
After searching the web, I found this page listing the supported/unsupported features of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365166.aspx
On this page it clearly says €œThe Reporting Services API extensible platform for delivery, data processing, rendering, and security is not supported.€?
Is there a way to get my reports to work on the express edition?
If not, which minimal version of SQL Server should a buy to get it to work (workgroup, standard or enterprise)?
In ODBC Data Source Administrator, I add the SQL Server driver, complete a name and select my local SQL Server instance, select Windows NT authentication (the client configuration is set to TCP/IP, dynamically determine port) and on clicking Next, the following errors occur:
Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server error: 2 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory][ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
I note that in the Help it says: "The SQL Server system administrator must have associated your Microsoft Windows login with a SQL Server login ID".
Is this the problem? If so, where do I make this association?
