Copy Sqlce Database Structure To Sqlserver Database

Jan 6, 2008

Hi,
I have a complicated sql server mobile database (.sdf) and need to create a SQL SERVER database with the same tables. How can I do it without scripting the whole thing? I thought of using the views.information_schema databases, but it is still a lot of coding.

thanks

Copy Database Structure

Apr 13, 2000

Can anyone tell me;

Is there anyway to copy an entire database structure (layout of column definitions and character formatting)?

Or do I have to delete the relationship, then the child first?

For testing purposes, if I screw one up, I would like to be able to start with another copy.

Thanks

Copy Database Structure

Nov 1, 1999

Hi all,

I want to copy a production database schema to an archiving database, only
the structure : tables, views, defaults, rules,UDTs. For achieving that
I am trying to use SQL/DMO functions, "CopyAllTables" for example. My script works with no error but unfortunately the destination database
contains no objects. Why, have I missed something ?
Does anyone know how to do that?

Many thanks for your help

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

Apr 18, 2008

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Thanks!!

Copy Just The Database Structure Not The Data

Feb 19, 2007

I have been working on my windows app, using SQL Server 2005 (& C#) but I now have loads of junk data, so I want to copy the structure without any data to a new set of files that can become the production version.

I assume I can use backup and restore in future when I want a copy of my production data to use for future testing.

How would I take just one table from my test database and add it to my production database without retyping the design?

Apart from the size limitation is there any advantage in buying a version of SQL Server over using the Express edition?

Copy Database Structure But Not The Data

Feb 13, 2008

I'm looking to create a new version of a database but with completely reloaded data - so I want to retain the database structure but none of the data.

Is there an easy way (read: without a DBA on staff) to copy an existing database structure - preferably with views and stored procedures - and not take the data along for the ride?

Thanks in advance for suggestions...!

SqlServer 2005: How *best* To Copy One Database To Another

May 16, 2007

Hi;I thought I would rephrase a question I asked in another post to morequickly get to the heart of the matter. My apologies for anyone whois offended by what appears to be a repetition. My company has two identical web sites. One copy is for our customer, and one copy is for us to test our code changes on.We developed a hard to isolate bug in the copy of the web stie for ourcustomers. We believe the bug might be data related. We would like to replace our test database with our productiondatabase to try to reproduce the problem without interrupting ourservice to our customers. The test database and production database have all the same tables andstructures, but the names of the databases are slightly different. We have tried dropping tables from our test database and importingtables from our customer database in Management Studio. We got thedata but the identity fields were turned off as identities. We canmanually turn them back on in Management Studio, but we have severalhundred tables. In the end we just want to the data from our customer db to be in ourtest db with the test db name being the same, and have our identityfields preserved. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks in advance for anyinformationSteve

Cannot Find SQLCE 3.5 Database

Apr 8, 2008

hi,
I am developing a PDA project using Windows CE 6.0
I develop an Application using VS 2008 and create a database using SQLCE 3.5 in VS2008.
I run the Application in Mobile 6 Emulator, it is correctly.

When I integrate it in My Custom OS, there is an error to connect the SQLCE 3.5 Database.

My CE 6.0 customed OS included: All 'File System and Data Store' Components.
I also Include the 7 DLL: in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact EditionV3.5Deviceswce500armv4i
-sqlcecompact35.dll
-sqlceme35.dll
-sqlceqp35.dll
-sqlceca35.dll
-sqlceer35EN.dll
-sqlceoledb35.dll
-sqlcese35.dll

Also, I include the three CAB Files:
- sqlce.dev.ENU.wce5.armv4i.CAB
- sqlce.wce5.armv4i.CAB
- sqlce.repl.wce5.armv4i.CAB

I first Run the three CAB files in My PDA Emulator.
Then I run the Application located: Windows
All the files I imported in my OS is located in Windows

When I run my Application, there is an error prompted:
"The Database file cannot be found. Check the Path to the database.
[Data Source = WindowsTest.sdf]"

I try to use The Query Analyer to open the DB:WindowsTest.sdf,
The Error Message shown:
Error: 0x8004005 E_FAIL
Native Error: (25046)
Interface definning error: IID_IDBInitialize
Param 0 : 0
Param 1 : 0
Param 2 : 0
Param 3 : WindowsTest.sdf

I, then, create a database in my PDA Emulator using isqlw35.exe (Query Analyzer)
and located in WindowsTest2.sdf.
After create the Test2.sdf, I use the Query Analyzer to re-open it. It is correct with no error!
I use my Application to open the WindowsTest2.sdf, and it is correctly too!

Therefore, the problem would be: The SQLCE 3.5 database I created in VS2008, named 'Test.sdf'
cannot be opened in my customed ce 6.0 OS. However the database I created in my customed OS 6.0
emulator ,named 'Test2.sdf' works fine.

Is there any difference or what's wrong when I create a SQLCE 3.5 database and integrated in Windows CE 6.0???

Compact Sqlce Database

Apr 26, 2007

Hi, there;

I got a SqlCe2.0 database here called JOB.sdf, size is 260K. When I tried to compact it, it took very long and that JOB.sdf.tmp was created with 27.7M!!!, I can still open table in the database, but I found that there is some invalid data (unreadable square boxes). It looks like database was corrupted. My application gave error:

Apart from compacting database, is there manual job or tool we can do/use to fix a corrupted database caused by power failure? (e.x: all data saved successfully before power failure)?

Thanks

SqlCe Database Corruption

May 4, 2007

Hi; there;

I know that power failure can corrupt a sdf file (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296076/en-us)

Apart from that, is there any other reason can corrupt a SqlCe2.0 sdf database?

Another problem I found in my sdf database is corrupted record. There is a record in the database has all field with "null" value. When I tried to compact this database in "Query Analyzer", it has cursor there forever. I can still open the database and view those record. I tried to delete this record by saying "delete from job where ... is null", that database is fixed!!! I can compact that dataase again.

Note: I have transaction when writing data to database and my application has quite a lot database corruption issue which is nightware now.

Does anybody know what causes this and how to avoid this problem?

How To Create An SQLCE Database From An XML Schema?

Oct 11, 2007

Greetings,

I've searched through this and other SQLCE newsgroups, and it would
appear that whenever this question is asked, it is deflected or left
unanswered. I'll try again:

Is there any way to create SQLCE database tables from an XML schema
(preferably in .NET with C#)? Of course this can be done with the .NET
DataSet, but there doesn't appear to be any way to get the DataSet to
create the tables in the SQLCE database (although the reverse can be
done). I won't go into long explanations of the application, but it
does not ever have any connection to an SQL server, and we don't want
to create the SQLCE tables in code. We *only* want to create them
using an XML schema. Is the only option writing our own code to do this?

TIA

Does SSIS Database Copy Overwrite Existing User Permission To That Database?

Sep 24, 2007

Hi guys,

I've been assigned the task of setting up access to our SQL Server 2005 box. A consultant developing for us has accessing to 2 databases and I've set this up fine. It appears however that one of these databases is re-copied over to the server every night to keep data reasonably current.

I'm not interesting in changing this method as I'm not the maintainer (as yet).

Basically I would like to know if I've setup access to this database (it works fine), when the database is updated (with an SSIS package) the account seems to get deleted. Do the original permissions from the source database overwrite those of its destination?

Cheers

Database Failed To Update SqlCE With Visual Studio 2008

I use visual studio 2008 to design a database application.
I am in the peak of finalising the program but I have a snag with updating data in the database.
I could create new rows, add rows and new rows of data to the table but whenever i try to change the data in a cell
it returns an error "Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."
I have tried all possible solutions, using table adapter, commands etc but wont get it.

This situation also applies to changes made directly on the data grid and also when using the binding navigator buttons
to edit and save data.

please help me.

The Remote Copy Of Database X Has Not Been Rolled Forward To A Point In Time That Is Encompassed In The Local Copy

May 11, 2006

Hi,

I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:

alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go

The error message is:

The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.

I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)

1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1

2. backup database log

3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2

4. restore db with norecovery

5. restore log with norecovery

6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2

CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]

STATE=STARTED

AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)

FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)

7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2

:connect SQL2

alter database DBmirrorTest

Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';

go

8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1

:connect SQL1

alter database DBmirrorTest

Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';

go

This is where I got the error.

The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy

Thanks for any help,

Database Structure

Sep 25, 2007

Hello I am a final year student and for my final year project I have decided to try and create a price comparison website due to the fact that i feel it would be a good project to work on and develop my technical skills in C# and microsoft sql server 2005, since these are mainly the two programs I would say i have more experience with. Basically I want to create a website such as www.pricerunner.com. At this point in time i have started playing around with how i feel the database will look, in terms of tables and columns, below is what i have produced;
Company
 Company_ID
Company_name
ADDRESS
 Website link
 contact
Products
Product_ID
Product_name
Product_Category
Product_Price

I am now stuck as how i will link each company with a product bearing in mind a company will stock different categories of products, also do you think i need any more columns in any of the above tables, as well as am i missing out on anything, I am hoping someone with more knowlegde than myself can shed some knowledge on my problem, thank you.

Getting SQL Database Structure From Here To There

They work as far as links etc. Now, the next step is to create my SQL database on their server as they instruct, which I have done in name only. (Oh, if it makes a difference, I access the hosting service using Plesk control panel.) Is there any simple way to get my database structure from my PC to the host server? All responses welcome. Database Structure

Nov 1, 2004

This is a sort of database structure question that could I guess apply to any type of database...

Say I have 4 production lines and I want to log serial numbers on the start of every line and off the end of every line.

Is there any advantage in having a separate table for each Production Line and serial number logging point? (i.e. t_Line1Start, t_Line1End, t_Line2Start etc) or is it just the same as having one big table and having a LineNumber field and a StartEnd field?

Is SQL Server just as happy dealing with fewer transactions to several tables as it is to many transactions to one table?

Database Structure Q:

Jan 11, 2008

I'm designing a web application that acts as business management software for many small autobody shops. This method was chosen because it creates a central point of administration for the software and I believe that a properly configured cluster of services will meet performance requirements. Using SQL Server 2k5 as my backend, I need to structure my DB(s) so that performance and size are kept to a minimum.

That being said, the first problem I encounter is in creating a structure that supports multiple businesses, each with their own unique dataset.

For example, each business will have work orders specific to their business. This necessitates a uniqueness constrained by businessID (hereafter titled "BizID") and WorkOrderID (WoID). The first solution I happened on was the simplest: A composite primary key composed of BizID (int) and WoID (int). The unfortunate consequence of this, as I soon realized, was that *every* table containing multiple business' data would need this composite key structure. The second problem with this method is that there is no such thing (to my knowledge) as a composite identity. I could identify WoID as the identity column, but it would not iterate WoID for BizID x properly if any other Biz added a work order to the table. (i.e. biz 1 adds three work orders (identitied 1, 2, 3), biz 2 adds one work order (would identity as 4) and Biz 1 adds another (would identity as 5), leaving us with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 across two businesses, rather than 1, 2, 3, 4 for biz 1 and 1 for Biz 2)

The second idea I considered was one DB per business. I didn't consider that for very long, since I assumed size considerations would be blown out of the water if I had 50 business and 50 DBs. I could be wrong, as I am decidedly a novice at this. It does benefit from not putting all my eggs in one basket though and makes backup/recovery/troubleshooting much simpler.

The third idea I considered was one table per business. This suffers from the same issues as #2 above with not as many of the benefits.

Both ideas 2 and 3 would need a master table relating logins to the DBs they belong to, which would not be hard to implement at all, but the implications of using this method are unknown to me.

So quite obviously, I'm a novice at this. Perhaps I took a project on that was too big for my britches, but just getting out of college puts me in a good place to take a risk and I will learn a great deal from putting a complex (is it so?) system like this into action.

I appreciate any and all responses, thanks in advance for your replies!
