is there a way to get a count of records for each table in a database by table in one query? I can query each table using a count, but this is pretty tedious when you have 50+ tables. Anybody have any ideas?

So basically I need to read the records in Table1 using Groupid and each time there is a Groupid then select records from Table2 where Table2.Category in (Select Catergory from Table1)
and Table2.Dimension in (Select Dimension from Table1)
In Table1 There might be 10 Groupid records all of which are different.
Is there an easy way to count all records in a database?

I have a table with three fileds
1 - SmsTime (datatype = datetime)
2 - MsgCnt (datatype = int)
3 - Message (datatype = varchar)
Here MsgCnt means it will give the number of sms part (70 charector is equal to One SMS).
So in each row MsgCnt may be vary. Some time it may be 1 or 3 or 5 or 2 etc.
Now here I need to count how many MsgCnt is received on Today. Its not to count the rows but counting the MsgCnt fild value.
Is there any sql way to find it.

We have an helpdesk sytem on SQL 2000. I am trying to show how much calls have been assigned to each parent category plus it's child categories in a single row. The thing is when I run my query it display parent and child categories and each on it's own rows. I do get the call totals for each row, but I would like to add the totals of the rows together and display it on row. The new table must have then 6 rows (because there is 6 parent categories) with the total of all calls for that parent category, as well as it's childs. Example:

I need to establish a Type Count. The business rule to do the count is -
For a particular type, take a single year and add up the price. If the price is greater than zero then count = 1 else count = 0. After completing the counts for all the years for a particular type, add up the counts.
Based on the business rule for the above sample data I should have the following count.
Count -
Type A = 1 (For Year 00, price = 300.00 so count = 1 and for year 01, price = .00 (105 + 105.00 - ) and so count = 0. add counts to get a total of 1)
Type B = 2 (For Year 00, price = 300.00 so count = 1 and for year 01, price = 105 and so count = 1 and for year 02 price = 00 so count = 0. add counts to get a total of 2)
How do I implement this count using a query. I am free to add any indicator columns that may be required to perform the counting.

I have an incident reporting management application. People are supposed to report incidents by this application and every time some one reports an incident, they also select thier employee#(reqiured field). so how can write an sql statement that returns only the Top 5 incident reporters i.e going by employee number. Iam thinking of applying a COUNT function on the incident_id and grouping by Employee# but then how do i make sure that only the top 5 incident reporters are returned.

How can I detemine how many records in table B reference each unique A_ID in table A?

Ok, I'm really new at this, but I am looking for a way to automatically insert new records into tables. I have one primary table with a primary key id that is automatically generated on insert and 3 other tables that have foreign keys pointing to the primary key. Is there a way to automatically create new records in the foreign tables that will have the new id? Would this be a job for a trigger, stored procedure? I admit I haven't studied up on those yet--I am learning things as I need them. Thanks.

I have a Audit tables database. I want to archive the Audit Tables data to another new database in the same server and remove the data in the Actual database but continues with the table seed where it's the primary ID.
Example:
I have a AuditProducts Table with AuditID as BIGINT and auto increment value.
contains10,000 records in AuditTable Database.
I want to archive the tables to a new database: Audit200707
After archived, the AuditProducts Table in AuditTable database will remove all the records and continues with 10001 in the next record.
How can I done the whole process using T-SQL so that it can schedule and run for every month? BTW I am using SQL Server 2005 SP2.

So, how many Distinct SawRunNumbers had no passing wafers? In trying to do this I've come up with:"SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT SawRunNumber) AS BouleCount FROM dbWafer_Slicing WHERE (SawDate >= @MinDate) AND (SawDate <= @MaxDate) AND (Pass = 1) HAVING (COUNT(DISTINCT WaferID) > 0)" but that doenst work. It still counts records where pass = 0 for distinct SawRunNumbers even if one record within that SawRunNumber is passing. From the above sample data I should get a result of 1 not 2 or 3. Select statement joining file1 to file2. File 1 may have 0, 1, or many corresponding rows in file2. I need to count the corresponding rows in table2. Table2 also has a Boolean column and I need to count the number of rows where it is true. So I need to count the total number of matching rows and the count of those that are set to true. This is an example of what I have so far. I had to add each column being selected into a Group by to make it work, but I do not know why. Is there some other way this should be set up.

I'm currently running a reorganize on a large table of ~60 gig. I started the reorganize when I noticed the fragmentation was 97.95%!!!
Well the reorganize has been running for 25 hours now and apparently bulk inserts cannot happen during this time since my SSIS package just bombed trying to prepare for bulk insert.
Anyway, my question is can I cancel this reorg? I didn't start the reorg through the query analyzer. I saw this cute little reorganize button when I right clicked my indexes, properties, fragmentation in the SQL 2005 management studio. I clicked it and then clicked ok.
I know I should have done an alter rebuild but I wasn't comfortable with the process and did the one click solution that is now killing me.
What happens if I go into task manager and shut down the process? Am I risking a serious side effect of corruption or will SQL just stop so I can rebuild the index properly?
