Create A Duplicate Row
May 13, 2015
Here is my Sample Data (Below SQL For Create Sample Data)
ID,Fname,Lname,Amount,Visit
1,Smith,D,125,1
2,James,C,145,3
3,Norman,S,121,1
4,Sam,P,111,2
Here is End result Looks like.
ID,Fname,Lname,Amount,Visit
1,Smith,D,125,1
2,James,C,145,3
2,James,C,,3
2,James,C,,3
3,Norman,S,121,1
4,Sam,P,111,2
4,Sam,P,,2
What I want to check Visit column If Visit is more then 1 then create a duplicate row. First row with all Information i.e (4,Sam,P,111,2). However, Second row should be without Amount (4,Sam,P,,2) Because we don't want to calculate the same amount twice. how I can accomplish this one in SQL or SSIS.
Here is the SQL
Create Table InsertMore
(
ID Int
,Fname VARCHAR(50)
,LnameVARCHAR(50)
,AmountMoney
,VisitINT
[code]....

Hello Everyone:
I am using the Import/Export wizard to import data from an ODBC data source. This can only be done from a query to specify the data to transfer.
When I try to create the tables, for the query, I am getting the following error:
Msg 2714, Level 16, State 4, Line 12
There is already an object named 'UserID' in the database.
Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 12
Could not create constraint. See previous errors.
I have duplicated this error with the following script:
USE [testing]
IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users1]', 'U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1]
CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1] (
[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,
[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,
CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)
)
IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users2]', 'U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2]
CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2] (
[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,
[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,
CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)
)
IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users3]', 'U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3]
CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3] (
[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,
[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,
CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)
)
I have searched the "2714 duplicate error msg," but have found references to duplicate table names, rather than multiple field names or column name duplicate errors, within a database.
I think that the schema is only allowing a single UserID primary key.
How do I fix this?
TIA

this may sound like a weird one, but i need to create duplicates of all rows that satisfy a condition.
using asp, i am able to select rows from a databate using a recordset, only to insert it straight back into the database, thus assigning it a new unique id.
but is there any one to perform this action just using sql?
thanks,
goran.

I have a table in a database that keeps getting duplicate records added to it.
Is there a way to set a rule so that if someone tries to add a duplicate record for that field, it will stop the record from going in?
I know creating an index would be the proper way to do this but:
1. The application does not belong to us.
2. Duplicates already exist in the table for the database.
Basically I am trying to do the most without making alot of changes to the database.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am writing a db conversion for a retail grocery chain. This chain uses pricing zones to designate what stores get a certain price
Example:
Cheetos
Zone A: $2.79
Zone B: $2.89
The pricing data in the tables is listed by zone. However, the new product uses pricing by store.
Zone A contains stores 1,2,4,6,7....
Zone B contains stores 10,11,12,14.....
I need to be able to duplicate the rows in a manner that I can take the row containing a price for Zone A and duplicate it for each store in the zone. I have a table of stores with corresponding zones.
So I'm looking to go from:
Zone UPC Price
A 1234500000 2.79
B 1234500000 2.89
To:
Store UPC Price
1 1234500000 2.79
2 1234500000 2.79
10 1234500000 2.89
11 1234500000 2.89

Hi there ...here comes a tricky one.
I have a database table which needs to make the Index "ParentREF, UniqueName" unique - but this fails because duplicate keys are found. Thus I now need to cleanup these duplicate rows - but I cannot just delete the duplicates, because they might have rows in detail tables.
This means that all duplicate rows needs an update on the "UniqueName" value - but not the first (valid) one!
I can find those rows by
SELECT OID, UniqueName, ParentREF, CreatedUTC, ModifiedUTC FROM dbo.CmsContent AS table0
WHERE EXISTS (
SELECT OID, UniqueName, ParentREF FROM dbo.CmsContent AS table1
WHERE table0.ParentREF = table1.ParentREF
AND table0.UniqueName = table1.UniqueName
AND table0.OID != table1.OID
)
ORDER BY ParentREF, UniqueName, ModifiedUTC desc
...but I struggle to make the required SQL (SP?) to update the "invalid" rows.
Note: the "valid" row is the one with the newest ModifiedUTC value - this row must kept unchanged!
ATM the preferred (cause easiest) way is to rename the invalid rows with
UniqueName = OID
because if I use any other name I risk to create another double entry.
Thanks in advance to whoever can help me

I've begun to get the above error from my package. The error message refers to two output columns.
Anyone know how this could happen from within the Visual Studio 2005 UI? I've seen the other posts on this subject, and they all seemed to be creating the packages in code.
Is there any way to see all of the columns in the data flow? Or is there any other way to find out which columns it's referring to?
Thanks!

I created a cursor that moves through a table to retrieve a user's name. When I open this cursor, I create a variable to store the fetched name to use within the BEGIN/END statements to create a login, user, and role.
I'm getting an 'incorrect syntax' error at the variable. For example ..
CREATE LOGIN @NAME WITH PASSWORD 'password'
I've done a bit of research online and found that you cannot use variables to create logins and the like. One person suggested a stored procedure or dynamic SQL, whereas another pointed out that you shouldn't use a stored procedure and dynamic SQL is best.

I'm new to using SSIS and have been reading and learning slowly how to use it. I'm trying to create an identical copy of our database for reporting. I've used the Import/Export wizard, but have had some issues with foreign keys and with sql_variant columns.
I've tried searching for anything but haven't had any luck as of yet. I guess I don't even know where to start or what to look for.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
I have currently a problem with setting up the permissions for some developers. My configuration looks like this.
DB A is the productive database.
DB B is a kind of "development" database.
Now we have a couple of users call them BOB, DAVID, ...
who are members of the db role db_reader and db_writer for the productive db a but they should be allowed to do nearly everything on db b.
Therefor I added them to the db role db_owner for db b.
For testing purposes I tried to "CREATE" a view TEST as BOB in database B but I received the error message
'Msg 262, Level 14, State 1, Procedure Test, Line 3
CREATE VIEW permission denied in database 'b'.'
I cross checked the permissions on db level and I even granted all available permissions on db level but nevertheless I receive this error message.
What's my mistake?
Of course it worked fine when I give them sysadmin rights but then they have far too much permissions.
Regards,
Stefan

Hi Minor and inconsequential but sometimes you just gotta know: Is it possible to define a non-primary key index within a Create Table statement? I can create a constraint and a PK. I can create the table and then add the index. I just wondered if you can do it in one statement. e.g. I have: CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT])which creates a table with a PK and unique constraint. I would like (pseudo SQL):CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE INDEX NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT]) No big deal - just curious :D Once I know I can stop scouring BOL for clues. Tks in advance

How can I compare numerous rows in the same table that have the same fname, lname and access_id but different identity values (and other columns) and then keep only the one row which is the most current based on a date col?
This seems so easy, but today I just can't come up with it. Do I have to use a cursor of some kind?

I have a stored procedure that inserts records into a table with a Unique Clustered Index with ignore_Dup_Key ON.
I can run the stored procedure fine, and get the message that duplicate keys were ignored, and I have the unique data that I want.
When I try to execute this in a DTS package, it stops the package execution because an error message was returned.
I have tried setting the fail on errors to OFF, but this has no effect.
I found the bug notification that says this was corrected with service pack 1, and have now updgraded all the way to service pack 4, and still get the issue.
I tried adding the select statement as described as a work-around in the bug, and still can't get it past the DTS.
I have verified the service pack, re-booted, etc.....
I am trying this in MSDE 2000a.
Thoughts or comments? Thanks!

from Tab1 A, Tab2 B
where A.col1 = B.col1
group by A.col1 , b.col2
having count(A.Col1) > 1

Now - The problem -
I have to join this table to another table Tab2 to get the other details.
My Tab2 is a table from where I have to pull the Customer DEtails like name, address etc.

Now, I'm a pretty new DBA, so I want to know, what are the advantages/perils of removing the redundant single column indexes?
