Creating A Database From A Form.

Feb 9, 2007

I've made a form and now all I want to do is save everything in the form into a new database file but I don't know how. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005. Somehow I'm guessing that I have to set something somewhere so when the submit button is hit, it knows to save it to a database file which doesn't exist yet so it would have to create it. It should be easy but I can't figure it out.

Creating A Form With Reporting Services

Sep 19, 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to create a form with reporting services. Basically I am trying to draw this form using lines that has 2 columns down the page. The problem I have is the fields can grow on either side of the page, so the lines will not line up. I have tried putting this in a list box and then text boxes inside of these, but this will not work. I have not been able to get just the line to work because it doesn't grow with the list either. Has anyone else been able to design a form like this? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks SQLNewbie1000

Form Variables Not Persisting In SSRS

Feb 6, 2008

Hello All,

I am a super newbie here.

I have a Form that submits to a new window with a reportViewer control in it.

I am using the request variables for the report parameters.

Everything works fine until I click a drill down link.

The error comes in the space where the viewer would be, and just says that the first report parameter has no value.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Creating A View Form A Sequel Query

Apr 18, 2008

I've written a Union query that joins 16 different tables. I need to somehow make this into a permanent view so that i can query directly from excel to extract specific data - i guess i can set up excel to pull straight from this view then ?

I'm used to running excel VB code to SQL via Access (linking access up) but want to cut out the middleman now.

Any ideas ?

An example of the Union Query i have built is below :

SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]

FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO Sweden$Vendor Ledger Entry]

WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%'

UNION

SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]

FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO Taiwan$Vendor Ledger Entry]

WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%'

UNION

SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]

FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO US$Vendor Ledger Entry]

WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%';

Thanks for any help you can give me.

InfoPath Form's Data To SQL / SSRS Database

Apr 11, 2008

Hi

In my current project we are dealing with a lot if Infopath forms of all sizes and complexities. currently they are being saved in Forms library of sharepoint.
We need to build a warehouse for SSRS which receives data either from content database or from infopath forms submit with minimum latency.
I thought of few alternatives, but, not sure which is most robust and economical.
1. Built c# classes to parse XML of infopath forms and then push data to SQL using ADO.net and SQL stored procedure while item is being added (ItemAdding) to Forms Library.
2. Use CAML queries to extract XML from forms library and then continue with C#/ADO/SQL..
3. Use SSIS APIs and webservices to massage XML and put it to SQL at ItemAdding event
4. Use CAML queries to generate XML files and stage it to FTP and rest will be done on SSIS.

I am currently looking for feseability information based of Besy Known Practise. Please feel free to suggest a totally new approach, if available.

Thanks

Creating A Form With A Drop Down List Of The Foreign Key Values

Jun 19, 2002

I have the following tables in an SQL Server database.

Contact
=======
NameID
TitleID
Name

JobTitle

TitleID
Title

I'm trying to make a form to add entries to the Contact table that lets me associate a job title to a name by choosing it from a drop down list. I have been able to make it so I get a drop down list of TitleID but I need the Title field displayed. I haven't been able to do it. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?

One Form To Update Different SQL Tables Based Upon Form Selection

Apr 16, 2008

Hello,
My company Intranet has a form that agents can use to post their comments about the company to upper management, but our customer service department would like to modify the form so that the agent has to pick from a comment type.
The dropdown options on the form will be as follows:
ComplimentsComplaintsGeneral CommentsSuggestions
Each dropdown option has a designated table in a SQL DB.Using postback on the same page, I need to change which fields of the form are visible based upon which dropdown selection the user chooses, and I need the fields to then be inserted into the table that corresponds with the dropdown selection item.
For example: If the Compliments dropdown selection is picked, I need a text box to show for the user's location, the name of the customer, account number, and the message box. Once the submit button is clicked, the characters in these boxes need to be inserted into the Compliments table using its data adapter.
However, if the user selects Suggestions, the name of the customer and the account number should not be visible, since these fields do not exist and when the submit button is pressed, the Suggestions table should be updated.
If you need more information, I will provide whatever is needed.
As always, thanks for everyone's assistance.

Creating Dynamic Columns In Ssrs 2005

Mar 26, 2008

Hi there,

I have one table which holds all the information for the forms and i have another table which holds list of all the form fields. Now these two tables are mapped and that table give me list of all the fields in any forms.

To get the information about the users who filled different forms first i need to query the tblFormsToFormFields and get the list of all the fields for that form and then use that fields list in the select query to get the result.

In my report i need to provide the drop down with the list of all the forms and then display the information for all the customers for that particular form with the list of the form fields.

Is there in SSRS 2005 i can use C# or any programming language to create Columns in the report dynamically as there will be different fields for each form.

Please advice.

Thanks

Reporting Services :: Creating Tabbed Report In SSRS

Mar 20, 2014

I am trying to create SSRS report with tabs. Something like this

Tab 1
Tab2
Tab 3
Tab4
Tab5

The end user will input a value which will be passed to all the DataSets (my case each Tab will display some information from a DataSet). So when the user clicks on Tab1, it will display relevant information form DataSet1 and when the user clicks Tab2, it will hide the Tab1 information and should display the Tab2 information from DataSet2.I am able to achieve the following:

1. Making the tab clickable
2. Navigating from one tab to another (dispalying relevant information for each Tab) - Using Go to BookMark or Go to Report Option in the Action Property

But I am not able to hide the inactive tab report data. I am building reports and deploying it in SharePoint 2010.

Reporting Services :: SSRS Subscription Creating Duplicate Job

Jan 4, 2012

We have this sporadic problem where when we go in to save an edit on a SSRS report subscription, it gives us a duplicate job number error.  When I look at the Jobs in the Agent, there are duplicates, so I need to manually delete both duplicate jobs, then the subscription save will work.  If we delete just 1 of the jobs, the issue seems to clear for a while, but then reoccurs.  This has happened to us on multiple reports, but not consistently.  The subscriptions look fine.

SQL Server 2012 :: Creating Pivot Table For SSRS Report

Dec 2, 2014

I have the following query that will serve as a basis for SSRS report

SELECT TOP (1000) d.Project_Name, d.Status, d.Country, d.Region, p.Period, p.Quarter, p.Year, d.Brand, d.Store_Opens_Actual, d.DA, d.DPN, d.StoreNumber,
CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), CASE WHEN ISDATE(d .Store_Opens_Actual) = 1 THEN d .Store_Opens_Actual WHEN ISDATE(d .Store_Opens_Forecast) = 1 AND
ISDATE(d .Store_Opens_Actual) = 0 THEN d .Store_Opens_Forecast WHEN ISDATE(d

[Code] ....

This returns a dataset, that I need to convert into a PIVOT table that should look like the attached spreadsheet.

Having trouble writing the PIVOT table query. I feel like I am missing something conceptually as I am not doing any summing or aggregation. I don't know if dynamics SQL is the solution here or which route to take. I don't know if there is such things as PIVOTING without aggregation. CROSS TAB came to my mind as well.

Programmatically Creating And Executing Data Delivery Extensions In SSRS

Nov 15, 2006

Hi All,

I have been stuck with this problem since few days, need help regarding the same. I am enclosing the problem description and possible solutions that I have found.

Can anyone please help me out here?

Thanks and regards,
Virat

Problem Description:

I have a requirement for which I have created a data driven subscription in
SQL Server 2005, the whole thing works like this:

I have a report on Report Server which executes a stored procedure to get
its parameters; then it calls another stored procedure to get data for the
report; then it creates the report and copies it to a file share. This is
done using data driven subscription and the time set for repeating this
process is 5 minutes.

You can assume that following are working fine:

1. I have deployed the report on the Report Manager (Uploaded the report,
created a data source, linked the report to data source) - manually, the
report works fine.

2. Created a data driven subscription.

3. The data driven subscription calls a stored procedure, say
GetReportParameters which returns all the parameters required for the report
to execute.

4. The Report Manager executes the report by calling a stored procedure, say
GetReportData with the parameters provided by GetReportParameters stored
procedure; after it has generated the report file (PDF) is copied to a file
share.

For each row that GetReportParameters stored procedure returns a report (PDF
file) will be created and copied to file share.

Now, my question is

1. How to I get a notification that this file was successfully created
or an error occurred?
2. The only message that reporting service shows on 'Report Manager >
My Subscriptions' is something like "Done: 5 processed of 10 total; 2
errors."
How do I find out which record was processed successfully and which ones
resulted in an error?

Based on above results (success or failure), I have to perform further
operations.

Solutions or Work around that I have found:

1. Create a windows service which will monitor the file share folder
and look for the file name (each record has a unique file name) for the
reports that were picked up for PDF creation. If the file is not found, this
service will report an error. Now, there's a glitch there; if a report takes
very long time to execute it will also be reported as error (i.e. when this
service checks for the PDF file, the report was currently being generated).
So, I can't go with this solution.

2. I have also looked at following tables on ReportServer database:

a. Catalog - information regarding all the reports, folders, data
source information, etc.
b. Subscriptions - all the subscriptions information.
c. ExecutionLog - information regarding execution of the subscriptions
and the also manual execution of reports.
d. Notifications - information regarding the errors that occurred
during subscription execution.

For this solution, I was thinking of doing a windows service which will
monitor these tables and do further operations as required.

This looks like most feasible solution so far.

3. Third option is to look at DeliveryExtensions but in that case I
will have to manually call SSRS APIs and will have to manage report
invocation and subscription information. What is your opinion on this?

My environment details:

Windows XP SP2

How To Make The SSMSE To Return Whole Records Without Any Close Query Form And Re-create Query Form Operation?

Dec 25, 2007

Hi,
I got a problem.
I installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 version.
And I created a Compact database.
I created an connection in SSMSE to connect the database and opened a query form.
then, i run the following sql:

Select * from Table1

It returned 3 records to me.
After that, I used program to insert record into this table.
Then i ran this sql again, it still show me 3 records.
I closed the query form, and re-created a new query form, then run the sql, it returned 4 records to me.

Why? It's very strange and difficult to operate, right?
Is there anyone know how to make the SSMSE to return whole records without any close query form and re-create query form operation?

Thanks a lot!

Can I Write SSRS 2008 Reports To Run On SQL 2005 SSRS?

Sep 12, 2007

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?

If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?

I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.

The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.

Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?

Thanks!

Help Me Form This SQL?

Mar 2, 2006

Hi all, this'll be my first post here, hopefully I'll get this right and someone can help.

I'm trying to generate a subquery that will take a set of one-column rows and concatenate them into a single cell.

I've adapted from this article (http://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=2368) the following code:
DECLARE @topicList varchar(200)

SELECT @topicList = COALESCE(@topicList + ', ', '') + MAB_topics.topic_name
FROM MAB_topics

SELECT @topicList
that produces a list of all the topic_names in the database seperated by commas. That's fine.

I couldn't follow all the code in this thread (http://www.sqlteam.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18363) but I was able to extract and modify this code:

DECLARE @topicList varchar(200)

SELECT MAB_topics.topic_name
INTO #tmp
FROM MAB_topics, MAB_articleIndex
WHERE MAB_articleIndex.article_ID = 76 AND
MAB_topics.topic_ID = MAB_articleIndex.topic_ID

SELECT * FROM #tmp

drop table #tmp
which returns the two topic_names that I'd expect. (Note: this is my very first day declaring variables and using temp tables.) So I keep thinking that the following code would combine the two above working functions. But, when I run it in Query Analyzer, it just returns "(2 row(s) affected)" instead of a recordset.

DECLARE @topicList varchar(200)

SELECT MAB_topics.topic_name
INTO #tmp
FROM MAB_topics, MAB_articleIndex
WHERE MAB_articleIndex.article_ID = 76 AND
MAB_topics.topic_ID = MAB_articleIndex.topic_ID

SELECT @topicList = COALESCE(@topicList + ', ', '') + #tmp.topic_name
FROM #tmp

drop table #tmp
What am I doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple but I've been reading and trying and reading and trying for a few hours and haven't gotten it yet. The ideal response would figure out what I'm trying to do as well as what my mistake is and explain how I'm misthinking. A close second would be just fixing my code. :)

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Form Problems

Jun 10, 2004

Can anyone help me with this problem? I have a form with three drop down lists. From these lists, the user selects an accountID, the territory that ID is from, and the territory that ID is transfering to. Upon submission, that account number is inserted into the table, along with the TerritoryID, RegionID, DivisionID, and EmpID associated with both of the territories selected. However, upon running this, the accountID and ToTerritory info are inserted once, but the FromTerritory data is inserted tens of thousands of times. Although they are not entered into the same record, which i eventually want to happen, i do want to figure out why so many duplicate entries for the FromTerritory are entered. Here is my code and the stored procedure to enter the FromTerritory. I would appreciate any help.

Form With 20,500 Fields

Jan 27, 2004

I'm running SQL Server 2000. I have an interesting form I am creating for a client which has on it literally 20,500 fields that need to be stored in the system which I then have to create reports off of for statistics and trends.

I'm not sure how I should go about storing that large amount of information in SQL Server with the limitations of the size of a table. Would it be best to create 20 some tables to store it, or is there a better fashion to store it. 90% of the fields are numbers ranging from 0 to 100.

Thanks for any suggestions you can come up with!
