Code For Creating A Table In SQL From External Source
Nov 18, 2005I'm looking to create a table in SQL using data from the as/400. I need some code that extracts it from as/400 using odbc and I need it to loop and create that table every minute.
The file its retrieving is a live file but not very large.. I need to basically poll the data. Does anyone have code for something like this..

Jul 20, 2005Hi all,I am having real problems allowing a client to connect to sql 2000through enterprise manager.. I have tried all sorts but to no avail:From our local network all works fine.. Using the adsl line.. Even ifi try and connect to the external IP and use login details..(Asopposed to connecting local and using windows accounts) I can ping andtelnet the server and port.The server is behind a firewall so i opened up port 1433 and port1434(? is it needed).. To replicate the client i took the same laptophome that i use to connect in the office.. However using the exactsame config on my dial up at home i can ping the server but cannottelnet onto port 1433.. I think that this is the vital missing stepbut do not know hpw to resolve it..Any ideas anyoneCheersAnt

Starting A Job Based On External Source/event
Jun 6, 2003We run a weekly update on one of our databases from a download (FTP) from our mainframe. What I want to do is start the update job automatically after all of the files are downloaded.
I have a similar process in another database where the users set a flag in an application after they've made certain changes. The job fires daily at 18:00 and checks the value of the flag in the table. It then processes or goes back to sleep. This works great but there is no flag that the users can update in this application.

XML Source Doesn't Validate External Metadata Properly
Sep 26, 2007I have an XML file that my XML Source component is accessing. I have noticed that is possible to set a column in the external metadata collection to a certain datatype and the matching output column to a different datatype and this doesn't not generate a warning like it does with other source components (e.g. Flat File Source Adapter).
Try it. Set a column in your external metadata to have a datatype of DT_WSTR. Set the matching output column to DT_UI8. You will NOT get a validation error. I think you should.
This behaviour was noticed on RTM (i.e. no service pack installed) by the way.
I think this is a bug. Anyone agree?

XML Source - No External Columns Avail-- Syntax Error In XML/XSD?

Hopefully someone can help me with what I'm sure is a very simple question (new to the XML thing). I receive an XML file from "someplace" that I need to parse out using the XML Source in SSIS. I have SSIS generate me an XSD document, as one isn't provided for me. However, after I do this, SSIS does not show any available external columns to pull data from- the "Columns" section of the source is just blank. I'm pretty sure this has to do with a syntax error in either the XML file that is being provided to me, or the XSD doc that SSIS is generating. Below are both (obviously with data dummied up). Can someone take a look and let me what needs to be changed in either file to get this up and running? I'm looking to grab the AccountNumber, RecordNumber, ProcessedDate, Status, and StatusMessage elements.

Creating External Record Of All Subscriptions And Report Names

i have been tasked with creating a record of all the reports ( 200+ ) within each folder ( bout 20 ) and all the subscriptions (including parameters) for our SSRS i was wondering what the best way of doing this was (SQL query?)
i have tried creating a site map with visio but im struggling to get the subscriptions details
anyone done this before (or have any ideas) i would be very grateful

Loading Data Using Ole Db Source With Input Source Being A View
Dec 13, 2007I was trying to load data using SSIS, Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source, source was a view to a OLE DB Destination (SQL Server). This view returns 420,591 rows from Query Analyzer in 21 seconds. Row length is 925. When I try to executed the Data Flow Task from SSIS, I had to stop the process after 30 minutes, because only 2,000 rows had been retrieved. I modified the view to retun top 440, 000 and reran. This time all 420, 591 rows were retrieved and written in 22 seconds. Next, I tried to use a TOP 100 Percent. Again, only 2,000 rows were return after 30 minutes. TempDB is on a separate SAN Raid group with 200 gig free, Databases on a separate drive with 200 gig free. Server has 13 gig of memory and no other processes were executing.
The only way I could populate the table was by using an Execute SQL Task and hard code an Insert into table selecting data from the view (35 seconds) from SSIS.
Have anyone else experience this or a similar issue? Anyone have a solutionexplanation?

I have a SSIS package with a Data Flow task. This task transfers the data from SQL Server 2000 to a table in SQL Server 2005.
I deployed and tested this package on the Test Server. Then put this package in a job and executed it - Works fine.
On the production server- If I execute the package through DTEXECUI, it works fine. But when I try executing it through a job- the job fails and it gives me following error:
Description: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The "external metadata column "T_FieldName" (82)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection....
What I don't understand is, why are there no errors displayed when I execute the package through DTEXECUI.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

Severe Error Occurring When Creating Assembly With External Access Permission
Jul 11, 2006I had created a CLR function in my db and was able to execute it successfully a couple of months ago. But when I tried to execute it today it was throwing errors saying there was something wrong with the permissions on the assembly. So I decided to drop everything and recreate it except I can not longer create the assembly with EXTERNAL ACCESS permissions. Whenever I try to create the assembly I get the followng error:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

I also tried to create the assembly with Unsafe permissions and got the same error. Does anyone know why this error would be occurring now? I tried creating the same assembly on a different SQL 2005 server and it creates successfully and can be executed successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Set The Data Source Of Data Flow From External Application (C#)

I have a situation that needs to set the data source for a data flow from external .NET application ('external' means that the application will run on different process than the SSIS). I am trying to set the data source on which the data flow works from my C# application in a DataSet format. Ideal solution is not to save the DataSet to any file on harddisk (I know that will work, but has the overhead of writing, reading and managing the temp file). What I want to achive is that the business logic of picking data for SSIS Data Flow to process is controlled inside my C# application, the Data Flow just does what it does best - Transformation. Have any of you successfully done this before?. Thanks!

I have no clues on how to resolve this. Can somebody help me? I am stuck for long time.

now in my 'report' cloumn i have # with 6 digits ex. '111111' and 'part' has '1, 2, 3, 4,..to 50'

Question About Creating A View.
May 19, 2007I currently have a website with a page that displays the flags/ keys of the entire roster of guilded characters. Some more background is that I run a website for my Everquest guild, users can log in , create characters , and update their flags / keys.
There are 4 associated tables that are used in displaying the flags.
the Characters , Flags, Expansion, and Char_Flags tables. The char_flags table consists of 2 foreign keys and a bit field for enabled / disabled.
Char_flags = char_fk, flag_fk, enabled (bit)
The select statement I'm currently using to get information is as follows.
SELECT Expansion.ExpansionName, Flags.Flag_Name, Characters.Char_Name, char_flags.enabled FROM char_flags INNER JOIN Flags ON char_flags.Flag_FK = Flags.Flag_PK INNER JOIN Expansion ON Flags.Expansion_FK = Expansion.ExpansionPK INNER JOIN Characters ON char_flags.Char_FK = Characters.Char_PK WHERE (Expansion.ExpansionPK = @expansion)
That displays the information in a format like
Expansion Name, FlagName, CharacterName, Enabled. And there are usually 10 -15 flags per expansion so this lists the expansion 10 times, each flag name, then the character name 10-15 times, and wether or not the flag is enabled.
I would like to display the information a little differently and I'm not sure how to. I would like to display the inormation like this
Flag Name 1 Flag Name 2, Flag name 3, Flag Name 4, etc...
Char 1 X X X
Char2 X X X
Char 3 X X X X
Char 4
Char 5
etc
where the characters make up the first column, the flag names make up the first row(headers) and wether or not the flag is enabled is in the column under the corresponding flag.
This way the name of the flag, and the character name are only displayed one time instead of the flags and character names being repeated over and over.

Problems Creating A View
Jan 19, 2005I have a query on one of my pages that is just too large to keep in the page, so I need to reference a stored view in sql. I'm kind of new to this, so I'm having trouble getting the syntax right. The query is just a simple select statement using the results of several textboxes as parameters. I know how to do the query inside an asp.net page, but when I move it to sql, I don't know how to reference the textbox value i.e. @textbox. Here's what I have so far:

First of all, I know that where I declare @textbox is wrong, so where is the right place to declare it? Also, how do I reference the view from the webpage and do I still use:
cmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add . . .
in the page to establish the value. Anyone know a good tutorial on this. All the ones I've found were either in C# or didn't really apply. I need to know how to do this in VB. Thanks
