At work, we have a rather large VB project that uses MSSQL as the back end. This program was used to gather employee data and statistics. The author has since quit and I'm trying to add some functionality to the program. Unfortunately, there is no documentation on the db and there are about 80 tables. Is there any way to create a chart/Erwin Model of some sort that would show the primary keys/relationships between the tables?

I'm not aDBA, though I'm slowly picking stuff up.I discovered something yesterday that from my perspective is quiteserious and I wanted to verify that it is indeed an issue.I have bunches of tables and for some tables, I havetriggers...anywhere from 1 to 6 of them for a table. Yesterday, Inoticed that triggers appeared in SQL Query Analyzer that didn'tappear in ERwin and after a long conversation with CA tech support, itwas determined that ERwin doesn't properly support showing alltriggers for a table when more than one trigger for that tableperforms the same action; insert, uipdate, or delete. When it findsmore than one, it only shows one of them and ignores the others.As anyone found this to be true? There is a kludge workaround...useSQL Enterprise to script out the database, then perform a reverseengineer on the script rather than the database, but that sucks.Has anyone else noticed this?John Posada

I can set up the cube as a data source but when I look at the properties there is no option to "Generate Model".
I am running SQL 2005 DE SP2(CTP).

I need to create RDF files dynamically. As one example, I need to output a report that contains an OLAP table from an MDX query and will need to generate the RDL that represents the table on the fly. (Binding to a data source with any built-in control will not even come close to solving the problem. The actual requirements are extremely complex.)
In short... Rather than outputting the RDL XML the hard way is there an object model I can use to construct an RDL document with? Even if it's a bindhind-the-scenese, not-supported library?

I'm just getting started with Reporting Services and have a question.
I'm trying to set up a report model based on a UDB data source. However when I use the report model wizard, I get presented with:
[DB2/SUN] SQL0104N An unexpected token "SET TRANSACTION" was found following "BEGIN-OF-STATEMENT" ... SQLSTATE 42601.
I think that this is trying to set transaction isolation levels however this is not valid SQL for a UDB database.
Is there something that I'm missing with my configuration to make RS know that this is a non-SQLServer database?

in my report model project, i'm able to successfully create and deploy a report model based on a data source view that is in turn based on a table object in my data store.
but if i try to create a report model that's based on a a data source view that is in turn based on a view in my data store, well then, the report model that gets created comes up blank - i.e. shows no objects.
What gives? Is it not possible to create a report based on a view? that can't be right!

I have been looking at implementing a tabular model based on an OLTP database that's not dimensional. I know that this is possible but during my proof of concept I have encountered numerous problems ...
The things that I have run into are: After setting up the relationships I have found that measures filter context don't propagate along the relationships as I would expect. if the measure is coming from a target table and not a source then an ALL member is returned ( as in multi dimensional when a dimension isn't related to a measure group). Given the lay out of an OLTP database this will be hard to avoid.
One thing I have done to try an mitigate the above problem is to combine the tables used for measures in a view and using that in the source to connect to the rest of the tables. however due to the tables being of different grains this has then created duplication in some of the keys and measures. so the keys cant be used in relationships and the measures aren't accurate.
Are these things other people have come across? or should I give up the ghost and just recommend using dimensional models for the source? is tabular just geared towards a DW the same as multidimensional?
I had a SSIS Package which was developed on Beta Version Of SSIS, Now We have Standard Edition Of SSIS(Sql2k5) Installed.
In the Package we have One Flat file Source, One Script Component and A Sql Server as Target, We are programaticaly creating the package, Now When we open this Package in the Designer and Try to Run We get this error
"The script component is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Component Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated. "
Now when we just open the Script Designer and close it, The package runs.

From my understanding the problem is that in beta version, the script use to run at runtime, Now what they have done is that they generate a compiled code out of script and run.
My problem is that since i am using C# code to generate the package, How Will I Create a Binary Code out of Script.
In MS Visual Studio, when creating a new Report Model Project, after defining a datasource to an Oracle database (and successfully testing it), and a simple datasource view (1 table), when I click "Run" in Report Model Wizard, I receive the following error:
"ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }"
It does not appear that one can create Report Models from an Oracle database (since the SQL being used to query the Oracle database cannot be edited and contains syntax errors?). Is this the case?

One option is to column the descriptions, but that is not very elegantly. I was thinking of using bridge tables to model this but you have to always select a language in a filter (I think)..
I'm thinking of a technical solution, such that when a user logs on, the language is determined and a view determines whether to pick a certain product table specific for a certain language. But then I don't have the opportunity to interchange the different language specific fields in a report (or in my case PowerPivot).
We have the following scenario,
We have our Production server having database on which Few DTS packages execute every night. Most of them have Bulk Insert stored procedures running.
SO we have to set Recovery Model of the database to simple for that period of time, otherwise it will blow up our logs.
Is there any way we can set up log shipping between our production and standby server, but pause it for some time, set recovery model of primary db to simple, execute DTS Bulk Insert Jobs, Bring it Back to Full recovery Model AND finally bring back Log SHipping.
It it possible, if yes how can we achieve this.
If not what could be another DR solution in this scenario.

I have MS Time Seeries model using a database of over a thousand products each of which has hundreds of cases. It amazingly takes only a few minutes to finish processing the model, but when I click Mining Model Viewer to view the models, it takes many hours to show up. Once the window is open, I can choose model for different products almost instantly. Is this normal?

I just installed the enterprise edition of MS SQL Server 2000 in model database there are no store procedure. whereas in MS SQL Server 7.0 there are 18 SP so when I create the new db there is no SP only the one which I've created. Is it normal or did I miss something in installing

SQL Server 2000 SP3.
Prior to SP3 the recovery model was switched to simple during transfer (Copy object task) and changed back to the previouis setting after DTS was complete.
Nice thing because performance was increased and T-Log was keep small.
Now I assume that the recovery model is switched to bulk-logged causing the T-Log to explode, to be onest not in all my databases.
1.Is my interpretation regarding recovery model correct?
2.Does anybody knows the reason of this change?

The server was setup using Mixed mode. However, all the applications
(web and MS access) access the server using "sa" userid.
There are several databases in our server. Ex: (DB1,DB2,DB3,DB4 and DB5)
Application 1: need read/write access to DB1,DB2 and DB3
Application 2: need read/write access to DB5
Application 3: need read/write access to DB4 and DB3
Should I set up three userids and give them the dbo access to those
database that they need to use?

Hello, i have no specific problem but i just want to know your opinion on the issue. Last week I tested my recovery scenario and after installing new server i successfully restored master db. Then I tried to start server, but it wouldn't come up because physical path of model db in master..sysdatabases table didn't correspond to the actual location of db on new server, so that tempdb couldn't be created from model db on server startup. I started server without recovering dbs with exception of master using trace -T3608. Now I hoped that I could restore model using MOVE clause but it gave me error saying that restore operation needs to use temporary table in tempdb. To break this vicious circle I used model db files from installation CD and put them to the expected location. After two restarts server accepted the files and I went on restoring msdb and user databases. But I'm sure I must be missing something and there must be better way to do this but i haven't been able to find anything relating to this problem. Thank you for your input. mojza

* Restarted SQL Server 2K with the -T3608 startup parameter
* successfully detached msdb and model DBs
* moved the msdbdata.mdf, msdblog.ldf, model.mdf and modellog.ldf
files to their new homes
* successfully reattached model and msdb
When I take away the -T3808 startup parameter and restart SQL Server, I do not see the model database in the db list in enterprise manager eventhough my 'attach' seemed to work. Now I get the following error when i try and query against the Model database using query analyzer:
"Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'model'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly"
Also, when I look in the sysaltfiles table in Master, I see no reference whatsoever to the Model DB
What did I do wrong?
What would be the best Recovery Model for: a database which is 4 gig in size and imports via MSAccess queries and also stored procedures approximately 400,000 meg of data each month (and some other update queries are run against it) and it is also queried off of for totals on weekly basis?
The problem is that the SQL Server box only has 512 meg of memory and the tranlog on this database grows tremendously each import and when update queries are run against it. This tends to slow things down a bit on our other databases. We are getting a new SQL Server box but until then, what would be the best recovery model? I currently have it as Bulk-Logged and allow the tranlog to grow by 10% (with a base of 250 meg). The tranlog grows to up to 5-10 gig and in order to shrink it, I have to change the recovery model to Simple, and then back to Bulk-Logged in order to shrink it (I've tried all the dbcc shrinkdatabase, dbcc shrinkfile, dbcc showcontig, and dbcc checkdb commands as well as BACKUP LOG dbName WITH TRUNCACTE_ONLY and nothing will shrink it unless I change the recovery model to simple.)
