Hello all. I was just wondering how I could add the current date and time to the name of the .bak file. I perform a full backup daily and would like to keep a weeks worth of backups, but everytime I run the job, it just overites the previous one.
The command in the wizzard is:
BACKUP DATABASE [snl] TO DISK = N'C:Backups_for_FTPSNL_Full.bak' WITH NOINIT , NOUNLOAD , NAME = N'snl backup', SKIP , STATS = 10, DESCRIPTION = N'SNL Backup', NOFORMAT
Thanks,
Parallon

I need to move specific files from a server to another server on a monthly basis. Â There are hundreds of files that are in the source directory and I need to move approximately 40 of those to the destination server. Â I would like to easily add or delete the file list as needed. Â I have seen where several variables were created for for each file name (and one for the path) and the ForEach Loop would go through them. Â With 40 or more I was thinking that I could make a connection to an Excel spreadsheet or text file with a record for each file name and read in and and move to the next record and make that value become the content of a "FileName" variable. Â Then if I wanted to add another file name I could just add another record to spreadsheet/text file or remove and the package would handle automatically....

I'm performing a full backup of a database, and the file name that I am creating for the backup is truncating. This keeps happening and can't figure out why.
I have a stored proc that I run:
CREATE PROC usp_Backup_old_srvra_to_srvrb
AS
DECLARE @DOW varchar(10),
@Filelocation varchar(50)
--Get Day of Week and set backup file name
SET @DOW = DATENAME(dw,GETDATE())
SET @FileLocation = 'SERVERAE$MSSQL7BACKUP'+ @DOW + '__old_BKUP_SRVR_0418_0800.bak'
BACKUP DATABASE TEST
TO DISK = @FileLocation
WITH INIT,
STATS
RETURN (0)
The backup file that was created ended up being:
THURSDAY__old_BKUP_SR
Any idea why it didn't pick up the whole file name that I wanted?

Sorry if this question had already been answered previously. I was unable search the forum on this topic. How will I merge these and then configure the first row as Column names (As this helps to map to the destination column names automatically)

Hello,
I have a huge table of around 6.2 billion rows in Oracle and I need to load this table to SQL Server. I am creating multiple raw files based on contact_dates in the table. I have used conditional expressions to branch out and create raw files. I need to specify static file names for each branch or I have to create multiple variables for each branch and use expressions to create file names.
My intention is to create only 1 variable and evaluate the expression based on the conditional expression description. Is this possible?

RH

Hi all-
I was wondering if you had created a default for data/time (I'm looking to create one that will insert the equiv. of time()). When I try to make one and set the value to time() it tells me the value cannot be anything except a function, constant, or var. What's the deal?
Thanks.

creating the missing records in a date/time range.
However, I need to return different groups for each span of records.
here's some data....
aaa1
aaa7
bbb2
bbb5
bbb6
The numbers are the hour of the day.
I need to return
aaa 0 0
aaa 1 1
aaa 2 0
aaa 3 0
...
bbb 0 0
bbb 1 0
bbb 2 1
...
and so on.
I've got a numbers table and I can left join with it but I just get nulls for the missing hours instead of having it as above.....I can't think of a way of repeating the groups for each of the 'missing' hours - other than creating a length insert statement to fill in the gaps....unless that is the only way of doing it.

Hi,
I have created a certificate and now have taken a backup of this file by the following code:
backup certificate EncrProdCode to file = 'C:BackupCertEncrBackup.cer'
with private key(file = 'C:BackupCertEncrPrivKeyBackup.pvk',
encryption by password = 'EncrPrivKeyBackuppwd')
Now i want to create a certificate IN DIFFERENT DATABASE from this file. i m using the following database:
create certificate EncrFromFile from file = 'C:BackupCertEncrBackup.cer'
with private key(file = 'C:BackupCertEncrPrivKeyBackup.pvk',
decryption by password = 'EncrPrivKeyBackuppwd')
But is showing error:
Msg 15232, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
A certificate with name 'EncrFromFile' already exists or this certificate already has been added to the database.
No certificate with this name exists. why i m getting this error. and how can use the same certificate in other database. Is there any other way to create a certificate from an existing certificate file.
Thanks
Gaurav

I'm trying to create a trace file with the file as part of it's name. For example, I'd like to create a file called FailedLogins-20050428. Sofar I haven't been able to figure out how to get the name of the fileand the date together (I'm sill very new to SQL Server and tracing). What I've done is:declare @rc intdeclare @traceid intdeclare @maxfilesize bigintset @maxfilesize = 50exec @rc=sp_trace_create @traceid=@traceid output, @options=0,@tracefile=N'C: racefailedlogins', @maxfilesize=@maxfilesize,@stoptime=NULLif @rc > 0 print 'sp_trace_code failed with error code ' +rtrim(cast(@rc as char))else print 'traceid for the trace is ' + rtrim(cast(@traceid as char))I can create a trace file on C drive without difficulty. I've triedcreating a file like this:exec @rc=sp_trace_create @traceid=@traceid output, @options=0,@tracefile=N'C: racefailedlogins + convert (varchar,getdate(),112',@maxfilesize=@maxfilesize, @stoptime=NULLBut what I end up created is a file on C calledfailedlogins + convert(varchar,getdate(),112).trcI have no doubt what I want to do can be done. I just done know how todo it.If anyone could tell me where I'm going wrong, I'd really appreciateit. Thanks in advance.

We have an application group that wants to pull date from SQL Server and write it to text file on the server. They want the file format to be 12100_YYYMMDDHHMM.fr1 for one set of data, 12100_YYYMMDDHHMM.fr2 for a second set...and so on. The '12100' is fixed, but the rest of the file name will always have to include the system date/time. Is there an easy way to do this within a DTS package (when writing to the output file)? I would really appreciate help on this. Thank you.

Hi
I am trying to move a flat file to an archive folder and then rename the file to include the date and time of runtime.
I have set up a File System Task to move the file which works fine and a second File System Task to rename. The IsDestinationPathVariable is set to TRUE and the DestinationVariable is called User::Error_Log_File_Rename. There is an expression as follows:
@[User::Error_Log_File_Rename] = "Y:\SSIS_PUD_Upload\Error_Log_Archive\Update_Error_Messages - " +REPLACE((DT_WSTR, 30)(DT_DBDATE)GETDATE() + "-" + (DT_WSTR, 30)(DT_DBTIME)GETDATE(),":","-") +".txt"
which is the required file name.
If I go into the expression and evaluate it it will give me the current date and time. However when I run it as part of the package say 10 minutes later the file is renamed using the same date and time from 10 minutes before when I evaluated the expression. If I wait another 10 minutes and run the package again it still retains the original date and time.
Is there a way to get the expression evaluated with the current date and time during execution of the package?
Thanks in advance
Scott

I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file. The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.

E.g. I create a file named ABC.TXT daily. How do I get this file to have the current Date stamp so that the file name is ABC121201.TXT without any user intervention.

We are using an ADO.NET provider in SSIS to read data from a SQL Server 2000 table that contains DateTime columns to write to a Flat File Destination. When the date values are written to the file they are formatted in TimeStamp to the 10th decimal position; e.g.€œ2006-04-24 12:00:00.123000000€?. Since SQL Server supports values to Timestamp(3), we need to truncate the last seven zeros to put the data in this format €œ2006-04-24 12:00:00.123€? to keep the file as small as possible.
Since we have several hundred DateTime columns in scope for our requirements we are looking for the least logic/effort to accomplish this task. We can do this via Data Conversion and Derived Column transformations to cast the dates and strings but it is very labor intensive. It would be something like singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall eight times in a row with each verse taking 3 minutes each. Yikes.
We have tried casting the DateTime columns to varchar in the SELECT statement but receive this format €œApr 24 2006 12:22PM€?.
Is there a configuration we've missed that forces timestamp(10) with non significant digits?

This is driving me nuts..
I'm trying to extract some data from a table in oracle. The oracle table stores date and time seperately in 2 different columns. I need to merge these two columns and import to sql server database.
I'm struggling with this for a quite a while and I'm not able to get it working.
I tried the oracle query something like this,
SELECT
(TO_CHAR(ASOFDATE,'YYYYMMDD')||' '||TO_CHAR(ASOFTIME,'HH24:MM : SS')||':000') AS ASOFDATE
FROM TBLA
this gives me an output of 20070511 23:06:30:000
the space in MM : SS is intentional here, since without that space it appread as smiley
I'm trying to map this to datetime field in sql server 2005. It keeps failing with this error
The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data
I'm struck with error for hours now. Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks

I'm looking for a way of taking a query which returns a set of date time fields (probable maximum of 20 rows) and looping through each value to see if it exists in a separate table.
E.g.
Query 1
Select ID, Person, ProposedEvent, DayField, TimeField
from MyOptions
where person = 'me'
Table
Select Person, ExistingEvent, DayField, TimeField
from MyTimetable
where person ='me'
Loop through Query 1 and if it finds ANY matching Dayfield AND Timefield in Query/Table 2, return the ProposedEvent (just as a message, the loop could stop there), if no match a message saying all is fine can proceed to process form blah blah.
I'm essentially wanting somebody to select a bunch of events in a form, query 1 then finds all the days and times those events happen and check that none of them exist in the MyTimetable table.

I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:
PushD "
emoteservershareDIFF" &&(
forfiles -m *DIFF*.sqb -d -1 -c "cmd /c del /q @path"
) & PopD
It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?

I want to write a DTS that will import a file every day. The problem is that the files is not named the same thing every day. There is a naming convention (SOMMDDYY.TRN) that it will follow. I want to import this file (which is a fixed width file) each day to a table (The table will be empty each day).
After it is imported, I want to look at the NAME of the file, and pull out the date portion of it. So, if the file is called SO122603.TRN, i want to pull out 122603, and then update my table with that date for every record. So when I am done, I will have a table that represents the file I imported, with one added column. This added column would be a Date/Time that has the date that was in the filename. How do I do this???

Okay, here is a real mellon scratcher. I've got a server I've gotsemi-automated backups on. A typical backup looks like:BACKUP DATABASE MasterTO DISK = 'c:ackupsMaster20070418.bak'WITH FORMATThen I'll do a log backup if applicable (Not for Master). I then getsome error about the device being offline. But if I run:BACKUP DATABASE MasterTO DISK = 'c:ackupsMaster20070418.log'WITH FORMATthen it works fine. The ONLY thing I've changed is the extension onthe backup file. But that is what I wanted to name the log. As aworkaround I have the backups saved as:Master20070418-bak.log and then name the log files the way they shouldbe. That works, but I don't like it.Security is full access to Everyone, so I don't think it is an access/permissions issue.Any ideas?Thanks,-Utah

I need to ensure some naming standards to users while creating tables.
All table name should be in same pattern
(ie., ) TeamName_EmpId_tablename
I need a way to restrict user to follow the naming standard. If any user tries to create table without the above naming standard system should not allow.
