I am getting a type mismatch error when I do a bulk insert.---Begin Error Msg---Server: Msg 4864, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Bulk insert data conversion error (type mismatch) for row 1, column 14(STDCOST).---End Error Msg---The STDCOST is set to decimal (28,14) and is a formatted in Access as anumber, single with 14 decimal. I don't know why I would be getting a TypeMismatch error.Any idea?Mike
I'm trying to use Bulk insert for the first time and getting the following error. I think it might have something to do with my Format File and from the error msg there's a conversion error for the first column. In my database the Field is nvarchar(6) so my best guess is to use SQLNChar for the first column. I've checked the end of each line is CR LF therefore the is correct for line 7 right?

I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.
Thanks in advance,

"Bulk insert data conversion error (truncation) for row 1, column 1 (id)."
when you get the error above or similar in sql server 2000 does it continue inserting the data by truncating it or does it stop beacause looking at the data that i have got it seems to continue inserting the data but just truncates the colunm. i have tried it several time its seeems to be consistent.
I have data that has white spaces after the actual data e.g. '00093 ' hence i am happy aslong as i can be sure that it does always continue as i will be loading alot of data using a similar process.
hence my question is that will it load all the data all the time and just truncate it to fit the column size?
I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
I'm doing a custom clustering plugin for text to pre-process ("clean" the texts), calculate weights, estimate the number of clusters (using the PBM index) and finally, do the actual clustering.
So... I've made each of these modules on C++ and I'm putting them all togheter on the plugin.
My database (MDB file) has only one table, with only two fields within: a key (auto-incremental) and a small text. What I intend to do is to get the text in each test case, store them togheter somewhere and call my classes to cluster these texts.
I'm trying to log the texts in a file (just a test) on the ProcessCase method, in the CaseProcessor class. I've did it with no problems with numerical data.
But when I load the MDB file on the Mining Structures Wizard, it says the content type of the field holding the texts is "Continous" and the data type is "Text". Actually, when I saw it I didn't really mind.
But when I run the mining model it gives me the following error: "Error 1 Error (Data mining): The data type of the Table1.Texto mining structure column must be numeric since it has a continuous content type (Content is set to Continuous or Key Time or Key Sequence). 0 0 "
So... How do I change this content type ? (the content type combobox on the Mining Structures Wizard couldn't the changed)
i have a log file, i am trying to import data from it to SQL in order to analyze the data (able to query on the data), however that task seems impossible. In fact the log file contains a varying number of column fields (error logged, various types of data logged demand varying number of columns). More than that the fields themself are hard to extract.
An example of data in my log is:xxxxxxxx is some alphanumeric chars2008-01-09 20:16:05,4784E36F.req,10.1.1.26,xxxxxxxxx,OK -- SMPP - xxxxxxx:xxxxx,Sender=xxxx;SMSCMsgId=2028eecc;Binary=1;DCS=8;Data=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx...2008-01-09 20:16:05,4784E338.req,10.1.1.26,xxxxxxxx,Retry Pending - ERROR: Timeout waiting for response from server or lost connection -- SMPP - xxxxxxxxxxx:xxxxx,Sender=xxxxx........
I may use regular expressions to extract the data, and maybe use a regular INSERT to put in the right table. Thus it seems like making a manual Bulk Insert(yeah and it may take much more time), it seems strange, can i use somehow some additional tool (in SQL package or external), to assist somehow.
Hi all,I have a table called PTRANS with few columns (see create script below).I have created a view on top that this table VwTransaction (See below)I can now run this query without a problem:select * from dbo.VwTransactionwhereAssetNumber = '101001' andTransactionDate <= '7/1/2003'But when I create an index on the PTRANS table using the command below:CREATE INDEX IDX_PTRANS_CHL# ON PTRANS(CHL#)The same query that ran fine before, fails with the error:Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted inan out-of-range datetime value.I can run the same query by commeting out the AssetNumber clause and itworks fine. I can also run the query commenting out the TransactionDatecolumn and it works fine. But when I have both the conditions in theWHERE clause, it gives me this error. Dropping the index solves theproblem. Can anyone tell me why an index would cause a query to fail? Thanks a lot in advance,AmirCREATE TABLE [PTRANS] ([CHL#] [varchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL ,[CHCENT] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHYYMM] [numeric](4, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHDAY] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHTC] [char] (2) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GOCREATE VIEW dbo.vwTransactionsASSELECT CONVERT(datetime, dbo.udf_AddDashes(REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHCENT)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHCENT) + REPLICATE('0', 4 -LEN(CHYYMM))+ CONVERT(varchar, CHYYMM) + REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHDAY)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHDAY)), 20) AS TransactionDate,CHL# AS AssetNumber,CHTC AS TransactionCodeFROM dbo.PTRANSWHERE (CHCENT <> 0) AND (CHTC <> 'RA')*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!
I have imported data in my table using the bulk insert command. I was supposed to fill specific columns of my table with that data so I used a view to put them in the column I wanted.
The table looks like this now:
id | id_param | val_param +-----------+--------------+ 1 | no_tel | 742062141 2 | sex | 1 3 | age | 23 4 | no_tel | 765234157 5 | sex | 1 6 | age | 34
When I want to select only the val_param that is=1 for the id_param=sex using this interogation:
select * from bd_rox where id_param='sex' and val_param='1'
it returns no value and I don`t know why.The wanted result should look like this:
id | id_param | val_param +-----------+--------------+- 2 | sex | 1 5 | sex | 1
hello, I am working on an application that will import data from ascii tab-delimited files into corresponding tables in a sql server 2005 express db. The problem I am facing is that i get errors when running bulk insert. The tables all have one extra column which is a primary key identity value. Additionaly, the column data types include: int, bigint, nchar, nvarchar, datetime and bit an example table looks like this:
So, what I do is: 1. for each table I generate a character format file with the following command: bcp mydb..table format nul -f tableformat.fmt -c -T -S hostsqlexpress 2. I modify the format file to exclude the first identity column by zeroing the field length, the column order and terminator. The resulting format file looks like this:
3. I run BULK INSERT BULK INSERT tablename FROM dataFile WITH ( FIRSTROW=2, FORMATFILE = formatFile DATAFILETYPE = 'char' FIELDTERMINATOR=' ' ROWTERMINATOR=' ' KEEPNULLS )
As a result of the above configuration I get this:

What am I doing wrong here? With previous configurations I got errors about the BIT fields. In general, I only receive errors... The only thing that worked was with a table that only had nvarchar. Is there a fundamental mistake in what i do? I have read many posts, but nothing specific about handling different data types with bcp and bulk insert. I would appreciate any help, as I am running out of time Thank you.

It seems to me that files created on Unix machines with line terminator , or chr(10), cannot be imported using the Bulk Insert statement. Is this a bug, or an oversight by Microsoft? Does this mean that unless one replaces all with , there is no way to use Bulk Insert to import Unix files? This is a very strange behavior by MSSQL. Even lessor programs such as Excel and Word automatically recognize chr(10) as a line termination character. Am I missing something, or is this just the way MSSQL is?

Is there a switch I can use to force a bulk insert and if data is truncated, I'm good with that. The truncated data, in this case, is not data I can use anyway if it is long enough to be truncated.
I need to keep the field at VARCHAR(23) and if I expand it, I won't be able to join on it after the file load completes. I'd like the data to be inserted (truncated if need be) and then I'll deal with the records that are truncated after I load the file.

I'm trying to convert a column from a varchar(14) to float, some of the rows contain some non-numeric characters. I've tried to write a cursor to step through the records, run cast(col1 as float) on each record, then use if @@error <> 0 to capture an error but it doesn't work. It steps through fine but when the cast command fails it ends the execution of the script with "Error converting data type varchar to float."
How can i capture this error without having the script fail? Is there another way to get this done?

Hi, Create Table tb_mismatch (x int) Create Procedure proc_mismatch as begin insert into tb_mismatch values('s') if @@error<>0 begin print ' entered error loop' end print 'successfully exited' end exec proc_mismatch --executing the proc Now, when i try to capture the above error its not getting trapped..its directly going to the final end statement. I have even tried calling subprocedures so that it comes out of the inner procedure and by some means i can move forward in the outer proc, but even that failed. The proc. is able to capture all the other errors like primary key violation, binary data truncated etc but not the datatype mismatch error (mainly int with varchar...) any ideas are highly appreciated. Thanks & regards, Pavan.
Hi All, I am moving some numerical data from SQL server to excel. After the data is moved, i am getting green flag in excel cell to which the data is moved. When i click the cell i am getting this message "The number in the cell is formatted as text or preceded by a apostrophe"
I have a data flow that is updating an Access database using an OLD DB Command control. I am getting this error and have narrowed it down to a column the Access table called CreateDate. I don't think this is a reserved word, but even surrounding it in [] did not resolve the problem. The column from SQL Server is called order_date and is a datetime and the destination column createdate is a datetime in Access. When I remove this column fromt he insert command, it works fine but when included, it gives the data type mismatch on criteria error. Any ideas?
I am programatically loading a template DTS package that imports a text file to SQL Server. I change the properties (source, destination, ...), SaveAs to a new name, and then SaveToSQLServer. The package itself is good, I can programatically execute it and it works, but when it gets saved to SQL Server someting gets corrupted. When I try to open the package or manually execute it, I get a DTS Package error w/Description: Type mismatch. This problem is not constant. Sometimes dozens of packages can be programatically "Saved as" with not even one being corrupted. Currently, I am unable to get a single one to be successful.
This is a big problem for me because the package gets programatically scheduled to a Job in SQL Agent. I have placed the DTS "save as" creation into a loop that loads it and checks for an error. If the error occurs, it is removed from SQL Server and recreated. My loop is currently running forever instead of for seconds.
Msg 4862, Level 16, State 1, Server PATH-SQLDEV, Line 2 Cannot bulk load because the file "c:DATABATCHBCPFormat.fmt" could not be read. Operating system error code (null).
Above is the error I get. The problem is I do not know what is causing this error. It occurs when I attempt to use SQLCMD with bulk insert.
I am using SQLserver 2005 and I have a similar set up in a test database that works, why this format file does not is beyond me, but my experience is when the format file has an error in it, such as a mispelled datatype or a incorrect column number, the error will zero in on that, rather then declare the entire file unreadable. Furthermore if I go into the file, change something so where it is incorrect (like a column number) it will zero in on that error. So I know that the format file can be read. If I knew what this error was all about I would at least know where to begin in fixing it. I have also tried using a very small sample file for the data being inserted. Same error.
