Oct 22, 2007I am trying to launch a SSIS package remotely, and found this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403355.aspx#agent
however, i cannot add a reference to Microsoft.SqlServer.DTS.Runtime ? My Visual Studio 2005 interface does not show that as a possible reference when using "Add Reference"
How can I fix that?

Oct 18, 2007I'm trying to run a piece of code in BOL and it imports the dts.runtime class. The problem is when I do the import statement in my form, I get the green line. It can't find the class. The only class found inside SqlServer is Server.
Can anyone tell me why the DTS class isn't there. The box I'm working on has visual studio 2005, and Yukon sp2. And I think I'm running v.3 of the framework, so I should be good all the way around.

Why Do I Need Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper Namespace

It states pretty clearly in the documentation for the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper namespace that "This assembly is a Primary Interop Assembly (PIA) for the namespace Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime, which is the assembly Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS (in microsoft.sqlserver.manageddts.dll). The classes in this namespace should not be instantiated. Instead, use the classes found in the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime. "
And yet as I have found out earlier today and talked about here, sometimes it is absolutely necassary to use Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper. Why is this? Why is there no class in Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime that allows me to access the specific connection managers rather than using the generic ConnectionManager class?

I am logged in to the app as DomainMe.
I have Windows Integrated Authentication configured in IIS and am using Windows Authentication in ASP.NET. I am using impersonation to impersonate a fixed identity, say DomainBob. This has the following effect:
WindowIdentity.GetCurrent() returns DomainBob as expected since the process is being impersonated by DomainBob.
Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name returns DomainMe as expected since the ASP.NET application is using Windows Authentication.
The id variable successfuly is initialized to the GUID of the package, proving that the package name is resolving, however, from the ASP.NET application, the package fails.
Issuing the ? package.Errors[0] command at the command window provides the following information:

For some reason, the ASPNET process account is being passed to the package!
This makes no sense, because clearly, DomainBob is impersonating the worker process and all downstream resources should be accessed via DomainBob. This includes SQL Server Database Engine and I would imagine SSIS as well. ASPNET should not come into play at all since I am impersonating.
I also tried using regular (non-fixed identity) impersonation (<identity impersonate="true" />), but again, SSIS is trying to authenticate ASPNET, instead of DomainMe as would be expected.
This is definetely isolated to ASP.NET applications, because making the same call from within a unit test succeeds. It would seem that this is a definete issue because the behavior is inconsistent with ASP.NET security principles.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Any direction or suggestions very much appreciated.

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime ASP.NET Security Issue
Dec 21, 2006I am struggling in calling an SSIS package programatically using the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime namespace.
I am succesfuly connecting to the package insofar as I am able to retrieve the package ID (GUID), but when I call package.Execute I get a 'login failed for user' error, which indicates a security problem.
My ASP.NET app is running as a domain user which has temporary 'SA' rights on the server where the package is hosted. In addition, I have set the protection level on the package to 'DontSaveSensitive'.
What am I missing to be able to execute the package remotely?

The error occurs on the following line:

Looking at various forum threads, it would appear that it's because either (1) DLL(s) are not registered on the customer machine, or (2) DLL(s) are missing from the customer machine. The first explanation doesn't seem right -- even though Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS is a COM dll, doesn't .NET provide a wrapper when it references it? I downloaded Process Explorer from Sysinternals.com to compare loaded DLLs on my dev box to those on the customer's box and while several dlls are loaded when the line is successfully loaded, all of them exist on the customer box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

VB.Net 2005 Setup Creation Gets Error Using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime
Feb 3, 2007I have a very small project written in VB.Net 2005 using the SQL Server 2005 SSiS DTSx package.
I migrated a SLQ 2000 DTS package using the SQL 2005 Legacy tools and saved the package as a local .DTSx package on our file server.
I need to run the package from a clients PC.
I added the reference Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS so I could then use the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime so I can execute the commands:

Ok. That works fine and is basically the entire app. It executes without a hitch in debug and as a compiled exe on my PC, but I have all the tools. So now I try and create a setup project for this and I use the setup wizard.
During the creation of the setup project I get a message that states:
The following files may have dependencies that cannot be determined automatically. Please confirm that all dependencies have been added to the project.
C:windowssystem32msxml6.dll
OK. The dll is part of the reference I mentioned above and I have no idea what other dependencies it may have.
How do I find this out?
Has anyone else created a project like this and experenced the same?
I am on a clean build running WinXP Pro with SP2 - VS2005 with SP1 and the SQL Server 2005 tools.

I would like to inform that everything run inside a thread because the Package do a lot of things...
When I build up the setup for the exe inside the Detected Dependencies there are several DLL related to SQL Server (Microsoft.SQLServer.DTSRuntimeWrap.dll etc..etc..) that I don't register ..
Tis could be the problem?
If yes, somebody can tell me which one I have to register ? as COM or COMRelativePath?
Some other hints?
This error could be also caused by wrong permissions on the ssis?

Lookup Task Data Flow Transformation Causes Data Flow Task To Hang?

I'm trying to implement an incremental data pull (Oracle to SQL) based on Andy's blog:

My development machine is decent: 1.86 GHz, Intel core 2 CPU, 3 GB of RAM.
However it seems the data flow task gets hung whenever I test the package against the ~6 million row source, as can be seen from these screenshots. I have no memory limitations on the lookup transformation. After the rows have been cached nothing happens. Memory for the dtsdebug process hovers around 1.8 GB and it uses 1-6 percent of CPU resources continuously. I am not using fast load to insert new records into my sql target table. (I am right clicking Sequence Container 3 and executing this container NOT the entire package in the screenshots)

The same package works fine against a similar test table with 150k rows.

The weird thing is it only takes 24 minutes for a full refresh of the entire source table from Oracle to the SQL target table.

I am trying to create a simple BI Application for SSIS. In Visual Studio 2005 I just get a Data Flow Task from the toolbar and add it to the project. When I double click it I get the following error:
The task with the name "Data Flow Task" and the creation name "DTS.Pipeline.1" is not registered for use on this computer.
Then when I try to delete it it gives this other error:
Cannot remove the specified item because it was not found in the specified Collection.
I am creating this application in an administrator account in this computer, so I doubt the problem is related to permissions. I am running SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 in WinXP Tablet PC Edition.
Any suggestions why this is happening and how to fix it?

I am using SQL 2005 SSIS. I am joining several large tables and then the move result into another table in the same database.
I would like know which method is faster:
Use Execute SQL Task to insert the result set to the target table
Use the Data Flow Task to insert the result set to the target table. (Use OLE DB source to execute SQL command and then use the SQL destination)
Could you tell me why then other is slower?

Error Using Row Count Task In Data Flow Task

I'm trying to get a record count out of a databse using OLE DB Source and row count tasks but keep getting an error. I set up a variable as int32 and select the variable name in the row count task and when I go to the Input Columns tab to select a field to count, it gives me this error:
Error at Data Flow Task[Row Count[505]]: The component "Row Count" (505) has forbidden the requested use of the input column with lineage ID 32.
I don't even know what this means?

Recompile SQL Task With Data Flow Task

I created a package with SQL 2005. The package gets the Access DB and then inserts it into SQL Server.
If I open the package in .NET, I can see the SQL Task and Data Flow Task. The SQL Task has a property sqlstatementsource, which has the necxessary SQL code to create the tables.
How can I tell the SQL Task to recompile the SQL code if I give it another DB name, because the tables differ and don't map in the Data Flow Task

I have a custom (dataset) destination component from ms samples and it has an input holds DT_NTEXT value.
Whenever I try to retrieve data from this it returns "Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.BlobColumn" as value.
I try this but didn't work:

Data Flow Job Failing, Destination = Microsoft SQL Native Client, Error Message Not Too Helpful...

I have a Data Flow task which uses an XML File Source with six parellell Outputs, each going firstly to a Data Conversion Task, then the results of each end in a SQL Server Destination Object. (All using the SQL Native Client)
To eplain this further, the Xml file contains 6 different types of elements, the Dataflow splits out each type of element and processes them into different tables. The Data Transformation object exists only because the XML fields are Uni-code and the table fields are VarChar not nVarChar.
Initially using this setup I found that the Connection would timeout using the SQL Native Client so I changed the Timout on the Destination Objects to 0. This fixed the problem to some degree, however at present I can run the Pakage using the Visual Studio enviroment and everything works fine, no problem. When I run the Dtsx file using the SQL Server Agent, I end up getting the error below...

I understand that this error is somewhat of a 'catch all' and that the way the Native SQL Server Connection object works makes Error Capturing difficult. I have tried a few things which I will list as I'm sure they will be suggested...
I have played around with the 'MaxInsertCommitSize' property of the SQL Server Destination Objects to no avail (IE, changing to 50000, 10000, 1000 all of which resulted in the same problem)
I am running the ssis pakage from the server which is the destination
As mentioned above the Timeout on the SQL Server Destination Objects is set to 0
What I have already mentioned and still don'tt quite understand is that I can run the job successfully from the Visual Studio enviroment but as a job run off the SQL Server it fails...

Data Flow Task Error To Extract Data From Sql Server To Excel

I want to export data from SQL Server2005 to an Excel spreadsheet thru "Data Flow Task". I am using OLE DB for SQL Server for the source connection and a Connection To Excel as my destination source. The Excel spreadsheet (2003) exists and has the first row with column names. I don't have any warnings before trying to execute.
The SQL datable fileds are
i) ID - Int
ii) RefID
iii) txtRemarks - nvarchar(MAX)
iv) ddlWaterLevel - nvarchar(50)
While executing the tasks, I got the error
Error: 0xC0202025 at Data Flow Task, Excel Destination [427]: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
Error: 0xC004701A at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: component "Excel Destination" (427) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.
After analysing I found in the DataFlow --> Excel destination --> Advanced Editor for Excel Destination, the default data type for txtRemarks shows as "Unicode string [DT_WSTR]". But this is supposed to be "Unicode text stream [DT_NTEXT]". Even if I change the data type in the design time, It doesn't accept.
Please do help me out.

I am currently trying to use OLe Db Destination, but I am not sure how to map inputs to OLE DB Destination to my stored procedure insert.

Dec 12, 2007Hi all, I am getting the following when trying to import text coloums from execl to SQL server 2005. Any ideas?
Error at Data Flow Task [Destination] Coloums "blar" and "Blar_name" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode sting types.

again for the same teacher "101" and taskid "task2" there are 2 students
For teacher "102" and taskid "task3" there is only 1 student
Similary for teacher "103"

After i run the ETL the data should look as follows :

Note : If u observer the values in 3rd column of the trg table, instead of directly mapping the taskid we need to generate a separate sequence for every teacher.
BottomLine : for each and every task created by each teacher there should be a unique record along with the count of students in "STUDENTS" table
Can anyone help me out in designing the Data Flow task for this Functionality.

Data Flow Task Question
May 24, 2007Hi there. I'm trying to learn SSIS, please, help me. I have 2 questions:
1)
There are 2 databases on 2 different servers. I need to get data from Table1(database1) and put it to Table2(database2). But I have to insert rows, which ID is not exists in Table2. How Can I do necessary filter?
2)
In the OLE DB DataSource Component I have used SQL Command(it's simplified):

INSERT INTO @TmpTable (WorkCode)
select WorkCode
from Table1
SELECT WorkCode
FROM @TmpTable
SSIS Package works without any exception. But there is no any inserted record in destination table. If I try similar query without temporary table - it works good. Why?
Data Flow Task Error

I have SQL Server 2005 Express edition on my machine. On an SSIS project in BIDS, when i drag a "Data Flow Task" to the package it returns the following error:
The designer could not be initialized. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design)
Does this has anything to do with the fact that i don't have SSIS installed on my machine?
I thought that SSIS was only needed (on my machine) for the runtime, just to run the packages. To create and edit the pachages i need to install SSIS on my machine too? this doesn't makes sense, maybe it's another problem.
Can anyone help me on this?

Error With Data Flow Task
Jul 3, 2007I am having problems with the Data Flow task. It does not even show up in the list of items to drop into the SSIS project.
If I go to the Data Flow tab and hit create, I get the follow error. I have tried repairing and reinstalling, but nothing seems to clear up the error. Without rebuilding my machine, is there anyone who knows how to get the Data Flow Task reinstalled properly?

Data Flow Task Stuck
Jul 12, 2007I have a simple data flow task setup...
2 ADO.NET connection managers, each referencing a DSN pointed to a Unidata database.
2 DataReader sources, each using a single ADO.NET connection managers, running a simple SELECT statement from a table.
I have a Union All transform setup to merge the data and write to a OLE DB Destination (SQL05 database)
When I run the package, each source will validate, but only one will execute. The other source will do nothing. The data source will be colored yellow, and will just sit there. The package will just sit, almost like it is waiting for input.
This behavior is not consistent, however. It varies which data source will hang, pretty much 50-50. About 25% of the time, both sources will execute, and all rows will be written to the destination.
Any help is appreciated.

Data Flow Task Problem
Dec 8, 2005I have a Windows XP X64 machine with SQL 2005 Developer and VS 2005 Team Edition for Architects on it. For the most part it appears that all normal VS and SQL functions are working properly with the exception of SSIS. If I open the developer studio and drag a Data Flow Task onto the design surface I get the message below. I have tried doing an unistall and reinstall of Integration Services as well as a repair on VS 2005 with no success. I've searched the web and newsgroups and can't find any mention of the problem I'm having. Any help greatly appreciated.

How To Debug Data Flow Task?
Nov 6, 2007How can I debug data flow task. From this article (http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3567961) and this video (http://www.jumpstarttv.com/Media.aspx?vid=3) I found that when we are executing the task, the data count will be shown along with color coded task but when I debug the package, no count is shown. I have SQL and source and flat file as destination. There is nothing stored in the destination file but the sql script returns the data.
