I am thinking about moving some backups from the local machine to a remote server. Right now, I am using Ola Hallengren script for backups. The script performs checksum on the backup while it's being written on the disk. I am going to move the files using Robocopy utility. How do I check the data integrity once the backups are transferred to the remote server?

The package execution failed. The step failed. Now I have changed the SQL Server Agent service account to use a network account called "sql2008".Stopped and started the Agent service.
The account has access to the folders it is trying to back up to. It's a full admin on the sql box and the box where I am trying to backup to?
Does anyone have any great suggestions on how I can import an online XML file into an SQL 2005 table?
So far I tried to accomplish it with SSIS Data Flow Task where my source is XML Source (Data access mode: XML file location; XML location: URL, Use inline schema = True). This set up properly identified the columns to be imported.
I used Copy Column data flow transformation task to load data to OLE DB destination table that has same structure.
When I run the task it does execute with no errors, however the table remains empty. It looks like I am failing to read the actual data.
Do you have any suggestions? I am willing to go around this approach with stored procs/com/you name it €“ just make it work!

Is there any way to backup a remote SQL Server that is on a hosted account to a local drive? We have a web hosted account that has a SQL Server that we do not have full admin rights on, just dbo access to the data and structure. We would like to be able to do backups and restores to our local development server if possible. Perhaps vis DTS or some similar means? WE cannot use the normal backup/restore as we do not have right to these fucntions nor can we access the servers local drives directly.

i use 2 textboxes to register a user as member in web site one is user name and the other is password and save the inserted data in my database
but when i make login in the same registerd username and password a conflict happened because the both user name and password in data base stored with spaces after there's string in database.
I get the following error when I run a job created by a maintenance plan that
runs a database backup.

The backup was not performed since data verification errors were found.
Any input on how to correct this is appreciated.

here i have to check that, wether there is an entry in ISD codes table for 91 and 01 (india and us)
similarly AP , MC (Andhra Pradesh and MISSICippi)
please suggest me a nice approach, no of records in ISD codes and States will 350-450 records.

I'm looking for a bit of advice about the best way to make automatic remote backups of a MS SQL server.
I currently run a dedicated windows 2003 standard server that i have complete control over, but my databases are hosted on a shared machine that i have no control on.
Is there a way to automate backups from the SQL database onto the windows machine?
Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated!
Using SQL Server 6.5 and NT 4.0,..I'm trying to schedule a backup of a transaction log from one SQL Server
to another SQL Server both running NT 4.0. I keep getting:
dbsvolopen:Backup device t:ackup
emote.dat failed to open, operating system error =5 (Access denied)
I've checked every conceivable permissions entry on the target NT server and am now reading about the
different security modes for communicating between SQL Servers but I'm concerned that this may not be
where the problem really resides. Time is money.
Has anyone else configured a backup strategy where the database has a full backup to tape daily and the
transaction log is backed up every couple of hours, without truncatre, to disk, on another SQL Server?

I have installed Sql Server 2000 evaluation copy on Windows XP, which I use to monitor other sql server 2000 installations (on Windows 2000) through Enterprise manager version 8.
What has been noticed is that if you try and set up a backup job through enterprise manager you do not get the option to remove inactive transaction log entries (yes the database's use full recovery models). Also if you select the verify backup option, it is not included within the job.
This is the same if you try the above on the local instance. This is not a problem as you can use the server installations, but what I am wondering is:
1. Has anyone come across this before?
2. Is it sql server 2000 on XP?
3. Is it the evaluation copy that is causing the problem?
4. Is it none of the above but indeed a far more complex reason which will mess with my head?

We have about 40 locations worldwide, with a typical data size of about 200 GB per location, with some up to 2 TB. Most sites have 1024 to 1536 Kb/s MPLS links, with a few 2 Mb/s and one 4.5 Mb/s. Central data center has two 45 Mb/s links.
We are looking to remote, online backups to our data center from each location. I'm wondering which products and processes have worked.

What is the best way to perform daily offline/remote/off-premise backups of our websistes Sql Server 2005 database?
I've looked into using SSIS but for one reason or another am having serious problems with this. Ideally we'd like to be able connect over the internet and/or lan and pull the entire database down in one go. Our db is ~600mb so isn't major.
We used to use Sql Server 2000's DTS and this worked well, but I'm having a real hard time using SSIS to do the same so was wondering what the other options are

I have transferred my program to a 2000 server and while programming it was automatically using the local ASPNET login and when transferring it to the server it says that it is having problems logging into the sql server using an anonymous login. How do i change the program so that it can use the sa login or some other assigned login?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter the installer has asked for authentication mode and has started verifying the authentication it simply hangs. I've let it sit there for an hour before taking the installer forcibly down but nothing seems to be happening except for two osql.exe processes showing up in the task manager.
I've tried both windows authentication and SQL server authentication but the outcome is always the same. At the same time I'm, however, able to login to the database engine and all services with management studio using both authentication modes.
The last few lines in HotFix.log are as follows:
05/09/2006 09:49:09.999 Authenticating user using Windows Authentication
05/09/2006 09:49:10.015 SQL Service MSSQLServer was previously running, ready for authentication
05/09/2006 09:49:10.218 SQL Agent Service SQLSERVERAGENT was previously running

This would indicate that there's nothing wrong with the authentication but with whatever is supposed to take place after that.
There are quite a few lines in the log similar to the one below:

Redist9_Hotfix_KB913090.log seems to be the only individual log file that ends with line saying "Hotfix package launched" whereas all other logs have several lines of checks being completed successfully.
Any ideas what might be causing the installer to hang and how to fix it?
I setup this package to import data from a Sharepoint list to a SQL Server data table. The primary key of my SQL table is mapped to the Title column of my Sharepoint list. There is a possibility that duplicate values will be entered in the Title field of the Sharepoint list. So when importing data into my table via SSIS, my package always error-out when there it comes across duplicate values. how you others have managed data integrity when importing from a Sharepoint list with the Title column being mapped to the primary key of a table.

I am fairly new to SQL, so I have a few questions that may sound odd. First of all, I am trying to restrict users to putting in a three character code as an id item, or their team abbreviation. Here is the table definition:

Here is my code for adding the constraint
ALTER TABLE TEAMS

Here is the error that I get when trying to execute this statement:
Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 1
ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with COLUMN CHECK constraint 'Chk_id'. The conflict occurred in database 'statbookdb', table 'cabateams', column 'id'.
I am using SQL 2005 EM if this makes any difference.
My other question is in regards to once the constraints have been put in. Is there a way to make SQL throw a message out when a user violates a constraint? Right now, I have a numerical constraint in and whenever I violate it, all that happens is a "This page cannot be displayed" error. It doesn't make sense if you can only do this on the front end, as I don't see the point in enforcing it on the backend if there is no way to notify the user.

I have recently converted my DTS packages to SSIS and deployed them to the new server. I have the 2000 and 2005 server running concurrently, all that is left for me to do is compare the the tables generated by the DTS and SSIS packages to see if they are the same.
How do I go about comparing the tables, which are from two different servers using SQL server 2005?

Comparing data and integrity between two tables
I'm designing a database to store information about jobs that are in progress at a property. More than one job can be in progress at a property at one time and each different kind of job can contain different data, although they all share some common fields such as StartDate.
So I have a table that stores the property details PropertyDetails:
*ID
PropertyAddress
PropertyPostCode
Then I have a table that stores all of the jobs' shared details:
*PropertyID
*JobID - These three make up a compound primary key
*JobType
StartDate
EndDate
Then I have individual tables for each of the Jobs, for example BuildingWork:
*JobID
BuildingContractor
InsuranceCompany
Which works great, and enables me to query all basic job details from one table (JobDetails) rather than multiple tables for every job type.
BUT: I don't know how to enforce the referential integrity of the database. Obviously I can use a constraint to cascade deletes from the PropertyDetails table to the JobDetails table through the PropertyID, but there doesn't appear to then cascade the deletes from the JobDetails table to the individual Job tables as JobDetails has no idea what tables are there.
If I store the relevant individual table name as the JobType in the JobDetails table, could I use a trigger to somehow delete the related record from that table?

I am trying to figure out a method of transferring all objects from a SQL 6.5 database to a new SQL 7.0 server.
Right now, the only method I can see is to upgrade my SQL 6.5 server to 7.0. I tried to utilize 7.0's DTS but I
could not figure out how to transfer ALL objects into 7.0.
Any ideas?

I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI connected to the mirror server and the database is in restoring mode, which I believe means I can't query it. I found the Database Mirroring Monitor but it shows the same thing that Management Studio shows, which is Synchronized.
Do I just have to trust that Synchronized means everything is working?
I was hoping there was a way to look at the tables and verify that changes were taking place without performing a manual failover

I'm looking for some advice. We have multiple remote SQL Server 2005 systems at various clients that all contain the same WorkTrack database. We need to send this data on a daily basis from all of these remote servers to our main server (ChemWeb/Spindle) in our corporate office. The thing is that we need to do this over standard HTTP - no VPN connection, etc.
So I'm thinking of using SQL 2005 Web services to do such. Here's my plan (the name of the Database on the client side and server is WorkTrack, and SDP is the acronym I am using for a Spindle Data Packet which contains the data to be updated from the client)
1. Every day update a WorkTrack_SDP database on the client server that will contain all of the data from WorkTrack (name of Spindle Client Database) that has changed since the last SDP transfer. This WorkTrack_SDP database will only contain the tables from the WorkTrack database that are necessary for transfer to the ChemWeb/Spindle server
2. The WorkTrack_SDP database will have the same schema as the WorkTrack database with one additional Customer_No column in each table.
3. All of the tables in WorkTrack_SDP database will be truncated before insertion of updated data.
4. An acknowledgement of the previous SDP transfer and ChemWeb/Spindle Server update will be required before this process will proceed.
5. There will be an additional table in the Client WorkTrack database to track SDP transfers.
a. Date/Time range of updated data of each transfer
b. When the transfer was sent
c. When the transfer was completed.
6. Create SPROC’s on the ChemWeb/Spindle server to serve as SQL Endpoints (Web Services) to update/insert data from client systems to WorkTrack_SDP database on the ChemWeb/Spindle Server.
7. Create SPROC on ChemWeb/Spindle server that will transfer data from WorkTrack_SDP into WorkTrack

The new released SQL Server Web Data Administrator by Microsoft seems solving my issue.
I use it to connect to different SQL servers in different domains company wide successfully, but I failed to connect to home from company( I have static IP on the home server).
Also I want to know how to configure the sever name if I want to connect to company's SQL Server from home. The company SQL server is inside the firewall with a internal IP. How it works?
