Database In Dropbox Sync Folder Accessing From Multiple Computers?
Nov 2, 2015
I currently use Access and have found that I need to migrate to SQL Server. I need setting it up.
Currently, I have multiple computers (home, office, laptop, etc.). On each of these computers, I have a folder which syncs via Dropbox. In this folder, I have my Access database which allows me to read/write to the Access database from any computer, and these changes are automatically synced to all the other computers via Dropbox.
I have installed the SQL Server database in the Dropbox folder then installed Management Studio on each computer. But only the computer which did the database install can link to the the SQL Server database. The other Management Studios cannot see the database.
Is there a way to achieve what I am after or is this a limitation of SQL Server? I do not want to have to manage a network or anything.
I have an ODBC setting on my computer that I need to distribute to numerouse other computers throughout the company. What is the best way to do this? I exported mine and did an import on another computer, it showed up in the HKLM registry key, but did not show up in the ODBC system settings in control panel. Am I missing something? Any ideas?
I solved the previous issue I had and now need to find out how to make it so I have Service Broker running on one machine and the services running on another machine. I mean you can set a connection string to post a message to the service broker but then it will need to respond and the connection string in the method called does not allow you to put a server in the connection string. The other issue is because the stored procedure calls the method in your code based on a namespace and then a method but does not specify a server. I am sure a way exists but am not familiar with it. This is the last piece of the architecture I need to work out before I finish designing the system.
Hi All, I have an application that I have installed on 3 computers. Is there anyway that I can make them all access the same database? All the 3 computers are located on the same network. Thanks
do i need to use specially synchronized code if i have multiple threads inserting, updating and reading rows to and from the same database?? in this case, i know that no 2 threads will try to insert or update the exact same row into the DB, however, multiple threads might try to read the same row from the database.
Apologies if this question has been asked before. I am about to upgrade a multiuser application based on Access97 and VB6 to C# and possibly SQL Server Express.
My customer does not want to use a server based database solution ie a single instance of SQL Server, but prefers to have a common networked dataset which is accessed via user's own individual database engines. This is because of restrictions on the installation of server based apps.
Does this scenario completely rule out the use of SQL Server Express?
I'm developing with Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, my problem is that as default SQL Server Express uses windows authentication.
Since I develop in my own PC and install the software in another PC, my SQL Server Database is useless cause it still tries to log in wih my computer name and windows user. I'm using a conventional intallation project in which I include all the files (fonts, project output) that the computer should have, and I also included the .mdf file for the Database to work.
I tried using SQL Server Management Studio CTP to help me create a user for my Database, but the users I create with it are useless, I can't even create a login, I always have to use windows authentication.
I really need to change that because if I don't I won't be able to distribute the aplication I'm working in right now.
we currently have a web server/db on-site and a similar backup machine across the country. we're using a pretty bad backup strategy. we zip up a backup file, thats done on the main server every night, then ftp over to the back up server then run a restore.
lately ive been having problems with the main server. i would like to have the machines sync'd up as close as possible.
ive searched the threads and noticed replication and log shipping to be the most practical, but im assuming most of the machines are on the same domain.
what would be my best bet for machines connected over the internet, no vpn?
also the db on the main machine get queried/inserts all day from 7am - 6:30pm
Hi, i am working with windows mobile Cf 2.0 and desktop. i got problem when i were trying to synd mobile database and ms-access database. my requirement is online i want to transfar data records from mobile to desktop vice versa. but how? i dont knwo any body would like to guide me. i am ready to accepting yours valuable views. waiting bye Rajat.
Scenario: In general user will take database backup from database server to local system. User perform some changes to his local database based on his requirement. Again user connects to database server and click on update, local database should update to server database by informing each record status to the user. ex: record 1 updated / call closed do you want to update?
Here local database is going to be Pocket pc database and server database is on SQLDatabase. Can any one suggest best way to implement this feature in Windows Pocket pc, c#. I would appreciate your reply.
If you deploy a clustering algorithm project with the same clustering algorithm properties on 3 different servers (development/test/production), but with the same underlying database tables and cubes will the clustering be same, if yes, is this guaranteed by any way?
hi. I have two database( one on local system and another on my host ) there are same in table and stored procedure. i just want to sync data between there in my application ( ...on button on click event ! ). please help me to do it. tnx
SQL Database Schema Sync We have development and production databases, when we change database schema in development database how can I synchronize it to production without creating data problems in production, is this possible in SQL2005? Or any external tool I can use?
I'm working on an application that will be running on two or more machines. Each machine is logging data to a local SQL Compact database. I would like to make these two computers sync the data with eachother, but I am unsure what the best method is to transfer data between machines in a table format. I think XML would work well, but there may be something easier, so I thought I'd ask. Do I want to use sockets to do this, or is there another type of connection that would work better?
All PCs will know the IP addresses of their peers. I forsee each PC having a server thread that is listening all the time. Each PC also has a client that checks to see if it can connect to the server on the other side. It then requests certain data, which the server part sends. Does this sound right?
The rest of the app is in Visual Basic 2008 Express.
I have several database files, all in the same directory. I want to write SQL statements that access two databases at once. For example, if only one database would be involved, I would write:
SELECT Test_Source_ID_column, Data_column INTO Test_Destination_table FROM Test_Sources_table The above query copies two columns (Test_Source_ID_column and Data_column) from Test_Sources_table into a brand new table called Test_Destination_table. Now the above query is fine for both the old and new tables being in the same database. But what if Test_Sources_table is in file Old.dbf and I want the new table Test_Destination_table to be in New.dbf? Both Old.dbf and New.dbf are in the same directory. Therefore, there is no security issue about using ......etcpasswords. I should therefore be able to use relative paths. So, I also want to know how I can do that select on two databases in the same directory without typing long, long paths. Is there a way to do queries that access multiple database files (all database files being in the exact same directory) AND use relative paths or no paths (and certainly not type a full path)? NOTE 1: I'm using SQLEXPRESS, therefore do not have the SQL Server 2005 tools. I have Visual Studio 2005 Developer Edition with its tools. NOTE 2: One table is accessed through ODBC. The other table is accessed through SQLEXPRESS.
I have around 5 databases with same structure used to store data for different locations and services.
I have created an intermediate database which will have all the stored procedures to access data from above 5 databases.
My queries are common to all the databases. so,I would like to pass database name as an argument to my stored proc and execure query on specified database.
I tried this doing using "USE Databasename " Command. but it says ...We can not use "USE command " in stored proc or triggers. so ..what i did is ..
I have a software written in C#, using RDA to sync access database from desktop. But it is tricky that some time during "Pull" data from SQL Server Agent, my PDA tell me "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT".
This also happening when I try to unplug the ethernet cable from my desktop however the push and pull actions did not required to go through internet.
Here are part of my codes m_intdb = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess("http://desk01:1024", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW");
m_intdb.InternetUrl = "http://desk01:1024"; m_intdb.LocalConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW""; m_intdb.Pull("pulltest", "SELECT * from pullTest", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW", RdaTrackOption.TrackingOff, "Err_PullTest");
and the error message look like A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT.
Seasons greetings to everyone,A simple question. Could someone show me the syntax to produce multiple (2 or 3) result sets in a stored proc and how you access those sets from a c# program (ASP.NET)..Couldn't find a reference on Google, maybe I was asking the wrong question! Thanks for any help regardsDavej
We have a system that uses 3 databases, one for Membership db standard MS membership only the application has access to that data, one with User Data which we would like to make multi-tenant using Schema-Separation, and a third read-only reference db which is Common Market data for all users.we anticipate Tenant numbers in the thousands.Current we have multiple queries which create joins between the Main db and the Reference database using something like
Selec S.*, M.ScheduleDate, M.substation from Sites S left outer join Market.dbo.MarketUnit M where S.MarketUnitID = M.MarketUnitID
i'm planning to have a new schema for each Tenant on the Main Database, so I would create a Schema T1 for the first customer, a user T1User with access to T1 schema. and grant T1User access to Market.dbo. My First question is are there any concerns about the above T1User setup? My second question is, are there any tools which would automate the setup of the multi-tenant with schema separation, or should I just script the whole Main Database schema creation and replace schema name globally and then execute the script?
My Third question, how about upgrade and updates... currently using VS to compare dev/qa/prod database to identify changed which need to be promoted, and pushing updates... this could be a big pain to promote code to thousands of Schemas. grantedwe will likely keep the overall number of schemas spread over different SQL servers.
I set up MA plan to full back up by schedule and I would like to move them each completing process to another computer for preventing failing if harddisk of server was damaged.
How to move them by schedule to any computers ?? Please give me some suggest.
I'm sure this is rediculously simple, but I am totally new to sql. We are upgrading our practice management software to an edition which requires sql to be installed on our Win2003 file DC server and 18 client computers, all running xp-sp2. New software comes with an option to automatically install MSDE but I would like to try sql05 express instead, which they support if it is pre-installed on the server and all workstations. We meet all necessary sql05-exp requirements. After spending several hours online and downloading 05 books online, etc I beleive I understand how to set up the file server where the data resides, but I am now confused about what exactly I am to install on the client computers. Clients have .net 2.0 installed. I see no option to download specific "Client" software, just sql05 server express edition sp1, management studio express, and express edition toolkit sp1. Are you supposed to just run the server ed sp1 on each workstation, enable tcp/ip, and tell it to connect to the server's sql database, and if so, doesn't that leave a sql 'server' running on each workstation? Other documentation mentions installing the toolkit and connecting to the server, but I've found nothing which explains this simple procedure everyone must do, so I know I'm missing the obvious. Please help and Thanks.
While attempting to set up sql replication in MSSQL 2005 one of my user databases is now in the systems database folder. I need to move it back to the user databases folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm working with a legacy database whose structure I cannot change. I'm building a web-based editor for one of the DB's tables. This table has a Primary Key called "Master_Idx" that is an Identity (autonumber) field. To start, I query the DB and populate a data table which is cached. This is used to "feed" the web form. Any additions, changes, and deletions are reflected in this cached table. The user then has the flexibility to press Save at any time, which ensures that the database is modified accordingly. Here's my question:When new records are added, I assign them a Master_Idx value, the first of which was calculated to be 1 + the Max(Master_Idx) value when the editing session started. But when I insert these records back into the database it's possible that another user might have also been doing similar editing (of different records from the same table), so there's no guarantee that the Master_Idx values in the data table will be identical to those in the DB. When I insert a record from the cached table back into the DB, what technique can I use to check what value was assigned to the Master_Idx? If it's not the same as in the cached table then I need to update it locally in a few places.I hope all of this makes sense but if it doesn't then let me know and I'll explain it in another way.Robert W.
hello everyone, i am developing a application using C#and .NEt compact framework. for that i need to sync pda data (in xml format) with the remote database server(SQL) and vice versa. please help me out thanks in advance.
I've stepped into a new environment and have never dealt with multiple data files on user databases only with Temp db.What would be the best way to get all my data files in sync. I have done this on databases that aren't that big in size or off in size by a lot. Here is what I have
How Sync the user and password from my Active Directory, to a SQL Database. Actually, my environment have a database with users and password added, my custom applications uses it like a passport, but now I want to use Active Directory to control these users, but I can't use windows authentication in my old apps. I was reading about Forefront Identity Manager to do this, but I need a free solution. The Sharepoint database sync user credentials with AD?
I want to have an application like a web front end on a pda where customer details can be added into a database. Then later the user connects to the internet and sync the pda database with the database on the server. I want the infomation from the pda database to update the data on the server database.
I know this is a big question but any help would be appreciated.
I Created one database named login.sdf in sql Ce ,i created one table login having two fields (username and password).it is working well.I trying to synchronise these with SQL2000 using Active sync.it is not working ..And one more things ,i tried to connect the default pocket PC 2002 emulator with Active sync.it is also not working.can anybody give some solution for these problem
