Dates And Time Comparisons

Feb 17, 2006

got a quick question guys.

if i use this to parse the current date to the right side of the time.
right(getdate(),7) - i'll get something like 7:30AM.

i also have Times stored in a column of a table, but as a string not a date time.
it seems to compare okay, but when the time is say 1:30PM and im comparing it if its greater than or equal to (>=)to 7:30AM - it doesnt return.

i think its ignoring the AM/PM Meridian Values and just comparing the numbers.

is there a conversion i could use to do this?
ive tried a military time conversion i found but it converts to hrs,min,milliseconds.
convert(char(8),(convert(datetime,current_timestam p,113)),114)

if anyone knows a good way to do this - i would appreciate it.

thanks again

Best Way To Ignore Time In Datetime Comparisons

Sep 27, 2000

What is the best method for ignoring the time in datetime comparisons. Say I want all records on 07/08/1996 regardless of their time. Or all records between 01/01/1999 and 04/01/1999 even if one of the records on 04/01/1999 had a time of 16:32:22

Calculate Elapsed Time Between Dates And Exclude A Time Span.

Dec 18, 2007

I need a formula to calculate the time (let's say in minutes) between two dates/times.
The problem is that I have to exclude the time between 06 PM and 06 AM and also exclude the time in the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
I will use this in a couple of reports made in Reporting Services.
If anyone have an algoritm that could be modified for this and is willing to share this I would be very grateful.
Many thanks!

Time Difference Between Sequence Dates?

Feb 27, 2013

It has been a while since I have used SQL server and require to show a time difference between a start and end time, with only 1 date to determine these times

SQL
select
Arrival_date
locationdate as LocDate,
locationid as Loc_ID,
locations.loc_name as Location_Name
from current_locations
left outer join locations on
locations.loc_id = current_locations.location_id
where current_locations.Attend_ID = '1234567'

Results
Arrival Date LocDate Loc_IDloc_name
26/02/2013 19:2126/02/2013 19:271270Queue
26/02/2013 19:2126/02/2013 19:341278Dept 1

Analysis :: MDX - Get Data For The Time Between Two Dates In Where Clause

I have this simplified query below to illustrate what I'm looking for.  I would like to get the data for the time between the two dates in the where clause ('01-05-2015' and '10-03-2015').  In SQL it would be a BETWEEN.  I'm looking for the MDX equivalent.

I have these dates hard coded but what I eventually will be doing is an @BeginDate / @EndDate parameter in an SSRS report.

SELECT [Measures].[Ship Resale S&D Run Rate] ON COLUMNS,
[Branches].[Region].[Region] ON ROWS
FROM [Sales]
WHERE [Time].[Date].&[01/05/2015]:[Time].[Date].&[10/30/2015]

Comparisons

Apr 27, 2001

This question is from a deveoper that I work with:

In SQL Server 7.0:

Do you know of a query or sp which will return the list of objects in a DB, sorted in descending order by last changed date?

I need to generate a list of all the stored procedures created or modified since a specified date. I can get the created ones, but I can't see how to get the modified ones.

Thanks!

Any ideas on how to tackle this one?

Aggregate Comparisons??

Dec 12, 2007

I have implemented a login audit on a particular system which catches the users login details, including their application logon name and NT username.

What I want to do is report on users who have logged on to the software using someone else's workstation (i.e. logged on to more than one workstation).

Here's some sample stuff to play with

DECLARE @logins table (
loginName char(20)
, ntUsername char(25)
, loginDate datetime
)

--Insert test data. Please note that loginName and ntUsername are rarely the same
INSERT INTO @logins (loginName, ntUsername, loginDate)
SELECT 'Amy', 'Amy', '20070101' UNION
SELECT 'Amy', 'Amy', '20070102' UNION
SELECT 'Amy', 'Amy', '20070103' UNION
SELECT 'Bob', 'Bob', '20070101' UNION
SELECT 'Bob', 'Bob', '20070102' UNION
SELECT 'Bob', 'Amy', '20070103' UNION --Bob has logged on using 2 different NT accounts
SELECT 'Cal', 'Cal', '20070102' UNION
SELECT 'Cal', 'Amy', '20070102' UNION --So has cal
SELECT 'Dom', 'Dom', '20070102' UNION
SELECT 'Dom', 'Dom', '20070102'

Any ideas? I just can't think of the logic needed to get what I want.

Any extra info needed - just ask!
Cheers

Getting Started With Phonetic Comparisons

May 29, 2006

I've been reading a bit about full-text searches, phonetic values and match-queries and just don't know where to begin.

What I'm eventually going to do, is make procedures for matching names, finding records that are close matches and presenting them in a subform below the actual member that you look up.

E.g. if an employee looks up Sergej, he or she will also see Sergey, Sergei etc. below the membersheet.

BOL isn't very practical in examples, and its about 7 years since I took my SQL-Server 7.0 MS courses, plus I've primarily worked as an administrator up until last fall, not a developer. So where to begin?

Thanks in advance,

Trin

Performance Help: Binary Comparisons Vs Full Normalization?

Feb 18, 2008

I have a pretty intensive query that I need performance help on. There are ~1 million de-normalized 'adjustment rows' that I am checking about 20 different conditions on, but each of these conditions has multiple possibile entries.

For example, one condition is 'what counties apply' to each row? Now I could cross-join a table listing every county that applies to every row, which would mean 1 million rows X 3,000 potential counties. And for every one of these 20 condition, I'd need to be joining tables for each of these lookups.

Instead, I was told to do a binary comparison of some sort, but I'm not exactly sure of how to do it. This way, I'm not needing to do any joins, but just have a large binary string, with bits representing each county.

Since each query I know the exact county searched, I can see if each row applies (along with each of the other conditions I must check vs the other binary strings).

I accomplished this using:
AND Substring(County, @CountyIndex, 1) = '1'
I have a character string for county, which is painfully slow when running all of these checks.

My hope is if the county in the lookup is 872, I can just scan the table, looking at bit #872 for the county field in each record, rather than joining huge tables for every one of these fixed fields I need to test.

My guess is the fastest way is some sort of binary string comparisons, but I can't find any good resources on the subject. PLEASE HELP!

How To Convert UTC Time (retrieved From SQL) To Local Time In Reporting Services Based On Time Zone

Aug 7, 2007

Hi all,

I have created a report in SSRS 2005 which is being viewed by users from different Time Zones.

I have a dataset which has a field of type datetime (UTC). Now I would like to display this Date according to the User Time Zone.

For example if the date is August 07, 2007 10:00 AM UTC,

then I would like to display it as August 07, 2007 03:30 PM IST if the user Time Zone is IST.

Similarly for other Time Zones it should display the time accordingly.

Is this possible in SSRS 2005?

Any pointers will be usefull...

Thanks in advance

Generate Dates Between Two Dates

Nov 8, 2006

Hi,

I have a table which records employees'time-off records. There are 6 columns in this TimeOff table. They are RequestID, EmpName, StartDate, EndDate, Type, NumofDays. I have another table which has all the dates from 01/01/1950 to 01/01/2056.

I am trying write a query which lists all the dates between the timeoff startdate and enddate, including the the start and end dates, but my query so far only lists the start and end date in a timeoff record:

SELECT D.[Date], Datename(dw,D.[Date]) AS Weekday
FROM Dates D LEFT JOIN TimeOff T ON D.[Date] = T.OffStartDate OR D.[Date] = T.OffEndDate
WHERE (OffType = 'Sick Day' AND EmpName = 'Cat White') AND (D.[Date] BETWEEN T.StartDate AND T.EndDate)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

So, if select datediff(d,'07/01/2007','07/15/2007') as NumOfDays returns 14, I'd need to iterate through the 14 days and get the weekends and holidays. Would I have to use a cursor to iterate through the days?

SQL 2012 :: Accurate Sorting Data Each Time With Millions Of Records Without Time Field?

Apr 25, 2014

Sample Table

USE [Testing]
GO
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[Testing] Script Date: 4/25/2014 11:08:18 AM ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

[Code] ....

It seems to work fine with one million records.

Each primary key is unique, but the begindate is non-unique, and i guess even if i use datetime2 and add nanoseconds, from what i have read, there is a chance that i could have a duplicate datetime since the date is imported via XML from multiple sources.

SQL Server 2014 :: Gathering Stored Procedure Execution Time In Real Time?

Jun 11, 2015

Is there a way to keep track in real time on how long a stored procedure is running for? So what I want to do is fire off a trace in a stored procedure if that stored procedure is running for over like 5 minutes.

Integration Services :: Exclude Time In Date Time Variable In SSIS For Loop?

Oct 22, 2015

I am trying to load previous days data at 3 am via a SSIS job.

The Date variable is initiated as DATEADD("dd",-1, GETDATE()) in the for loop.

Now, as this job runs at 3 am, and I set the variable as GETDATE() - 1, it excluded the data from 12 am to 3 am in the resultset as Date is set as YYYY-MM-DD 03:00:00:000 I need this to be set as YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00:000

How can i do this?

Transact SQL :: Update Time Portion Of DateTime Field With Time Parameter

Oct 3, 2015

I hope to update a DateTime column value with a Time input parameter.  Poor attempt below but it looks like the @ApptTime param is coming in as 10:45:00.0000000 and I might have an existing @SendOnDate as: 2015-10-05 07:00:00.000...I hope to end up with 2015-10-05 10:45:00.000

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[SendEditUPDATE]
@QuePoolID int=null
,@ApptTime time(7)
,@SendOnDate datetime

It Takes A Long Time To Insert The First Record Each Time When The Program Start

Dec 15, 2006

I am using VS2005 (VB) to develop a PPC WM5.0 Program. And I am using SQLCE 3.0. My PPC Hardware is in 400MHz.

The question is when the program try to insert the first record into sdf database after each time the program started. It takes a long time. Does anyone know why and how can I fix it?

I will load the whole database into a dataset when the program start and do all the "Insert", "Update", "Delete" in this dataset and fill it into database after each action.

        cn.Open()
        sda = New SqlCeDataAdapter(SQL, cn) 'SQL = Select * From Table
        scb = New SqlCeCommandBuilder(sda)
        sda.Update(dataset)
        cn.Close()

I check the sda.update(), it takes about 0.08s for filling one record into database normally. But:

1. Start the PPC Program

2. Load DB into dataset

3. Create a ONE new record in dataset

4. Fill back to DB

When I take this four steps everytime, the filling time is almost 1s or even more!

Actually, 0.08s is just a normal case. Sometimes, it still takes over 1s to filling back a dataset which only inserted one record when the program is running. (Even all inserted records are exactly the same in data jsut different in the integer key)

 However, when I give up the dataset and using the following code:

            cn.Open()
            Dim cmd As New SqlCeCommand(SQL, cn) ' I have build the insert SQL before (Insert Into Table values(XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX All field)

           cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
            cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
            cn.Close()
            StartTime = Environment.TickCount

 I found that it is still the same that the first inserted record takes more time, but just about 0.2s. And the normal insert time is around 0.02s. It is 4 times faster!!!
