Hello, there this is my first post and I´m desperate seeking for help, I have almost not knowledge of SQL as it is not my usual work.
However, suddenly it has converted in mine....Hopefully I will got help in here.
Well the issue is that our database manager has resigned suddenly and before doing it he has changed the passwords of all the users in
our database of a monitoring web application. So all our users have no access now to the application. After many tryouts I finally got
access to the database and to the users table. However I have the issue that the passwords looks as below showed and I don´t know what
the real password is.
I have tried to decrypt using web decrypting pages as it looks like normal base64 strings, but it returns weird stuff. Also as I don´t
know the real encryption used I can´t change to a know string. So if some could help me getting how it was encrypted or better to find
out the real passwords it will be truly appreciated. If it is needed more info please tell me so I can send it to you, or if you need the
database itself I can send you a backup.
Best Regards to everyone.

If you re-attach a db to a different server, presumably you are shutting out your users (by them not having logins to the new server). If you are moving to a different domain I can only think that having the sa pwd and switching to "Mixed Authentication" would be the only way to get back in to start adding new logins/users, is that correct?

Hey everyone,
I've run into a fairly big problem. Apparently, the automatic backup has not been working since September, and that backup is of no use to me.
What I'm trying to do is restore the database without using the transaction log file. I don't care about a dirty database or lost data. The data is all I need, and the database structure of course.
I've tried several things.
Right click on the <database> go to tasks->attach-> pick MDF file etc.
Following this guide The only problem is I get a different error message. It doesn't ask a yes no question it just says the file doesn't exist and it can't create the database.
I've tried running it from other SQL management software and removing the LOG file when attaching, and that doesn't work. I tried:
Code:
MS SQL
EXEC sp_detach_db @dbname = <my db name>
EXEC sp_attach_single_file_db @dbname = <my db name>, @physname = <my db mdf file>
and I get the same message pretty much.
I tried this but I can't seem to get the database into emergency mode.
Am at the end of my rope and I really need this up and running ASAP.
Although I'm not sure of the proper syntax for setting a database into emergency mode, I think the last link I provided might do the trick.
I also tried the following:
http://www.spaceprogram.com/knowled...file-on_12.html
But when I get to step 8, the database is not in a suspect mode. When I click on it it says the database is in accessible.
When I right click and click on properties I get:
Quote:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
------------------------------
Cannot show requested dialog.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Cannot show requested dialog. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SqlMgmt)
------------------------------
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo)
------------------------------
Database 'BridgeTrak_Central2' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 945)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=08.00.0194&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=945&LinkId=20476
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
I checked the server and there is enough memory and disk space, about 2GB on each drive. Should be plenty for my 32MB database.
It's not my neck on the line but I would like to see my coworker stay here.
If anyone here knows anything about this, that would be great.
MS SQL 2000
Windows Server 2000 SP 4
_Any_ help or suggestions, other than the obvious, make sure backups are working, will be greatly appreciated....
Did I mention greatly appreciated?
I think the issue is that the original database was lost when someone else was trying what I'm trying now. They're very delete happy.
I think they may be SOL... glad it's not me, then again I wouldn't use the delete key without making 100% sure it wouldn't screw things up...I especially wouldn't empty the recycling bin. I probably would have deleted a database already burnt to CD, or burned some to CD....or made sure my backups were working. Messy messy network state, last guy left it in a mess. New network/DBA/ if it's got a network cable attached you're responsible. :S I don't like this new company that much. Too stingy... Dual P2 server?!?!?! Isn't that like, antiquated? No wonder there have been 3 dba/network admins/"if it's got a network cable..." that have left in the past year.

Ok guys, I do a regular daily ntbackup of my entire server. I thought I had sql backups going daily but I think a admin password change stopped that and well those backups are a LONG time ago. The ntbackup is just 1 lost half day.
Windows crashed and had to be reinstalled, so I have all the files in the database folder and what I've done so far was reinstall windows, sql, and all that stuff so now windows is back up and going. I used sql admin and created the database ncdsm. Then I took the folder from the backup of the database for ncdsm and copied it to the new sql install (after stopping the service) and then turned it back on, and it shows that the tables do not exist, but it shows the list of tables in red.
How can I fix this and get all my databases back to normal? Thanks.

Hi.
I've following problem:
- Customer played with his logical drives in a CPQ smart array
- He played too much: he lost the drive with the LDF-File
- Now the SQL-Server is in a kind of wired mode; you can
start and stop it, but you cannot connect to (neiter 'sa' nor
any other user available before)
In fact the mode is not wired: what shall he do other when
most important file is missing... :o
- The problem for me now is:
> How can I get the Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer
up and running again to start a restore?
PS: The restore is to be done from a tape-library running
Veritas Backup Exec + SQL-Agent
PPS: Error-log says (what I already know):
2005-10-04 17:18:02.69 spid11 Device activation error. The physical file name 'H:DEVLOG1DEVLOG1.ldf' may be incorrect.
Thanks in advance for assistance.

Hello,
Im running SQL 7.0 in production with no SQL service pack applied. I am trying to copy the database over to a test box running SQL 7.0 SP3. Both servers are NT 4.0 with SP6.1a. When I restore the database on the test box, I do not get the Users restored but I do get the Tables and other items. The SQL backup Im restoring from is a complete backup. Could the fact that the server Im restoring on is SQL 7.0 SP3 and it came from a pure SQL 7.0 server?
Thanks

I just restored a database on a new server with a backup(complete backup stored in backup device) from another database on another server using the "with move" option. In fact here was my process:

restore database ngauge
from disk = 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBACKUPgauge1.BAK'
with move 'NGAUGE' to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDatagauge_Data.MDF',
move 'NGAUGE_Log' to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDatagauge_Log.LDF'
Alter database ngauge SET READ_WRITE
it worked.
But it did not move the 98 or so users/logins...from the source database

Third question:
I'm backing up a database which has some users.
When I try to restore it to another machine which has the same users and already has an old version of the database the database cannot be accessed. I must drop the users from the database by using the stored procedures sp_dropuser <username> and then add it again to the database from the Enterprise Manager.
Why this happens??

Manolis

What I want to do is :
- restore a backup of a 3rd party database onto one of our servers
- this has no users that I can use
- there is some ETL processing so we're using Control-M to manage the process
- create a database user and grant it db_reader.
I'd like to do this without granting any users elevated privileges if possible.
What I've done so far is grant the Control-M user (this is a domain user) dbcreator rights and made it owner of our copy of the database that is being refreshed.
The refresh is completing, but Control-M is not able to log onto the database to create the user.
What is the best way to accomplish this task without granting the control-m user sysadmin rights?
Would I be able to do it if I used a SQL Agent job for the restore and user creation?

Anybody figure a way around this:
In a development server you take a backup and you want to move the entire database to a production server. The production server does not contain the database, users, or logins in master.
When you restore the backup to production in 7.0, the users get moved to DBO because the logins do not exist and then you cannot delete them.
We are having to drop the users from the database on development, back up the database and restore it to production, then recreate the users on production.
This is bogus and did not happen in 6.5 because of the aliases.
Anybody come up with a better way?

We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?

hi alli've got two tables called "webusers" (id, name, fk_country) and "countries" (id, name)
at the meantime, i've a search-page where i can fill a form to search users. in the dropdown to select the country i included an option which is called "all countries".
now the problem is: how can i make a stored procedure that makes a restriction to the fk_country depending on the submitted fk_country parameter?it should be something like
SELECT * FROM webusers(if @fk_country > 0, which is the value for "all countries"){ WHERE fk_country = @fk_country}
who has an idea how to solve this problem?

In SQL Enterprise Manager, when we expand "Database -->Users", we see the
users there. When we expand "Security --> logins" we see the same users there.
Can you differentiate these two.

If you make a mistake it is not fun removing it. Sometimes it corrupts the machine and it is difficult to uninstall since there is not an Oracle Universal installer for Oracle 11g.If you install the 32 bit before the 64 you mess up the machine.how to create a restore point.

I am looking for a SQL Backup/Restore tools which can restore multiple environments. Here is high level requirements.
1. We have 4 DBs, range from 1 TB - 1.5 TB Each Database. When we restore to QA, DEV, or Staging, we usually restore 4 of them.
2. I am looking for the speed to complete restoring between 1 - 2 hours for 4 DBs.
I am evaluating the Dephix Software but the setup is very complex and its given us a lot of issues with Windows Authentions, and failure in the middle of the backup. I used Guess Software many years ago but can't find it on the web site any more. Speed is very important for us mean complete restoring as fast as possible. We are on SQL 2012 and SQL 2008 R2.We are currently using NETAPP Technology and I have Redgate Backup Tool but I am mainly looking for fast Restore Process.

I need help ASAP!
For some reason, we lost a dozen of our tables with valuable data. could be a virus or something that cleared out our data.
The last backup we have is last night at 11PM. If we recover from that backup, all the users lose all of today's work!
Is there a way I can just roll back the transactions from today?????!
I'd really appreciate any help urgently

Would to import an Access table in the SQLEXPRESS but can't figure out how. Can I get some guidence?
Any help I can get would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
