Default Values For Parameters Automatically Generates Report
Apr 26, 2007
I have created a report, and am setting default values for the parameters. Once the default parameters is set, the report automatically generates. Is there a way to make it not automatically generate the report? We are setting the parameters with values that will get the end user the most recent data, but alot of times, they will want to pull older data as well. We don't want them to have to wait for the report to automatically generate before they can change the parameter values
I am building code to look into the database and create "CRUD" stored procedure scripts automatically for each table. I am in the finishing stages as my procedures take into consideration all necessary parameters and keys wheter they are natural or identity. It also takes into consideration User Defined Types.
I am working on the section which defines the parameters and their default values. ie. CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[TransactionHistoryInsertOne] ( @ProductID Int = 0, @ReferenceOrderID Int = 0, @ReferenceOrderLineID Int = 0, @TransactionDate DateTime = '1/1/1900', <-- Possibly arbitrary @TransactionType nchar(1) = '?' <---- How to get this. @Quantity Int = 0, @ActualCost Money = 0, @ModifiedDate DateTime = '1/1/1900' ) AS...
I have three problems remaining. 1. Using the AdventureWorks database as a data model, I run into the TransactionType field in the TransactionHistory table, a non-nullable nchar(1). How do I determine and use any default values that may be defined for this object? 2. Do UDTs have default values already defined? 3. How do I make sure I am not arbitrarily setting the default values?
Here i my select statement into the system tables:
SELECT C.*, T.name as xtypename, U.name as xutypename, S.*, so.* FROM syscolumns C
left join systypes T on (C.xtype = T.xtype) and (T.xtype = T.xusertype) left join systypes U on C.xusertype = U.xusertype left join sys.all_columns S on (C.id = S.object_id) and (C.name = S.name) left join sysobjects so on S.default_object_id = so.id WHERE (C.id = [TableId])";
A have a multi-valued parameter (B) which is dependent on a single-valued parameter (A) on my report. When a value is selected in A, I want all matching values in B to be selected by default and the "Select All" option checked. To do this I have set the Default Values section in B to point to the same dataset as the "Available Values" section. Both A and B have default values so the report runs automatically.
One of the values in parameter A (say Value1) yields more values in parameter B than the other (say Value2).
If I run the report the first time with Value1 selected as the default for parameter A, all values in B are checked correctly. If I run the report with Value2 selected the first time and then change the selected value to Value2 and run my report, all values in B are displayed but only the values that were previously checked (when Value1 was selected), are now checked, leaving the "Select All" unchecked.
What am I doing wrong? Why are all the values in B not checked? The dataset is the same in "Available Values" section and "Default Values" section.
I have a project where I need to automatically pass 2 sets of parameters to a SSRS report and generate PDF files. I have set the defaults for the parameters based on one set of parameters and created a subscription to automatically generate PDF copy. However, I am not sure how to generate the report automatically using the other set of parameters. Also, I don't want to create two report files to accomplish this.
It seems that my report runs immediately now that I've set defaults on all parameters. Is there a way to allow defaults on all params but still require that the user click "view report" before it runs?
I am using SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services (Using the Visual side - not direct code)
I am having problems understanding the dates. eg where to put them,
I want a report that runs on the 1st day of the month for the previous month. I know you can set up something in subscriptions but then how do I get my report header to say from .......to...............
I have been through the AW reports but can't see what I need.
Happy if someone wants to direct me to somewhere that has date examples.
I have my stored procedure set to Territory_code IN (@Territory)
, now , how do i enter in more then one value. When i select the multi value check box, it gives me more spaces. But then doesnt recognize the values when i put in more then one. am i doing something wrong?
This is regarding Report Services 2005 designing the report in Visual Studio.
Currently I am using a query to populate 2 date selectors in the parameter section at the top of a report. The start and end dates are determined by a query which returns the values based on yet another parameter. If I change the value of the paramter which is supposed to be used by the date selectors they don't seem to feel the need to re-calc themselves. I have 3 other dependent param's in the same report which behave reasonably.
Has anyone seen this before or is there way to somehow force a parameter re-caluclation?
I'm generating a list of parameters needed by stored procedures, and I'd like to know which ones have default values assigned to them. To retrieve the parameter information I use:
sp_sproc_columns @Procedure_Name='InsertUser''
However, the column that is supposed to give the default value, 'COLUMN_DEF' always returns as NULL, even when that column has a default value assigned to it. i.e. CREATE PROCEDURE InsertUser@UserID INT = 10,.....
And then if I do a sp_sproc_columns @Procedure_Name='InsertUser'', the COLUMN_DEF value for the @UserID column is still NULL.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how I can retrieve the default value?
Can someone please explain how i would define a multi-valued default parameter within the report Properties -> Parameters. I have an OLAP based report with multi-value parameters. I do not want to set the default values from within BIDS. Instead, I'd like to do this from the ReportServer (after report deployment). I have no problem when i enter a single value as a 'default value', for example: ReportParm1 String [Deal Dim].[Shelf].&[AAM] But, how would i define it with multiple values as a 'default value' ?, for example: ReportParm1 String [Deal Dim].[Shelf].&[ABC] , [Deal Dim].[Shelf].&[DEF] NOTE: It appears that you cannot use expressions, such as the 'split' function in the 'default value' space. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
I am experiencing some problems calling reports in ReportServer using URL. I have several multivalue parameters that are not being set through the URL. The values for this parameters should be the default ones that I have set in VS. When I preview the report in VS, the default values are correctly set but, when using the URL call, I keep being prompt for this parameters and the report is not rendered until I set them manually.
Hallo is it possible to perform an insert/update query upon the execution of a report, using the report Visual Basic expressions? I mean, the user enters some values for the report parameters, and i would like to store them, along with the resulting recordset data, into a dedicated table in the database.
I want to send a reports to two person. Reports are going to be delivered automatically. I hope to use snapshot option. In my report there is one column which can be seen by only one person. Can I use parameters to hide one column from one person? If its possible, can you explain how to do that please. If its not possible, what are the other option excet creating two different reports. Also If I use parameters , can reports be executed automatically? Thanks
Hi all, I've developed few reports I'm passing values to few parameters in a report from menu report. when I click on "View Report" button values are changed to default for parameters eventhough I've not changed specifically any values for parameters. thus report is missing few parameters and not able to execute properly.. this error occurs only in web environment.. after publishing reports.. they are working fine in developer suite(Visual Studio)
I have parameters in my report. The user can choose the year, month and date (3 parameters). Now I want to set default vaules for the parameters , so that the user sees the report for example for the current day without selecting the parameters. I tried to set the type of the parameters to DateTime and the default value for example for the year to "=Today().Year" . But when I execute the report an error occures . Something like : no validValue for this parameter.
My Attributes for the year month and date are from an Analyis Services Cube from a Server Time dimension . Does somebody know how to make it possible to set default values for this parameters?
Other question :
Does somebody know how I can reduce the values for a parameter. For Example I have a parameter "year" from a server time dimension from a cube. The values which are available are "Year 2004", "Year 2005", "Year 2006", "Year 2007". But I want that the user only can choose "Year 2006" or "Year 2007" ant not every Year or "All". Or Other Example: The User should only choose a Date that is int the past or Today but not a Date in the future.
hi, i'm using the following code to generate the value of a column in a database, where the colums value is dependent upon the multiplication of two other cells in the same row. When I execute the statement, it will work fine for whole numbers, but it does not work correctly for decimal values. All columns are of type varchar(50). An exmple.................It just multiplied 200 by 2.50 and returned 600SqlCommand objCmd2 = new SqlCommand("UPDATE Portfolio SET Current_Worth=Current_Price*Number_Of_Shares WHERE Name_Of_Asset LIKE '%'+@Name_Of_Asset+'%'", objConn);objCmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Name_Of_Asset", DropDownList1.SelectedValue);objConn.Open();objCmd2.ExecuteNonQuery();objConn.Close(); Any ideas?
I have a table that stores Terminal ID, Product Name, Cost and Effective Date. I need to generate query that will produce record set with start effective date and end date based on terminal and product. Table has over million records. In example below you could see table structure/data and desired outcome.
SELECT fmc_terminal, fmc_date = CAST(d. fmc_date AS DATETIME) ,d.fmc_prodlnk, d. fmc_cost INTO #TestTable FROM ( SELECT 1, '2014-12-03 00:04:00.000','A', 2.25 UNION ALL
I have a report I want to modify and when I go to deploy it I get:
Changing the report parameters or data sources to the values you specified is not allowed. The report is configured to run unattended. Using the specified values would prevent the unattended processing of this report
Now I understand the error, it is because on the report server's web management interface I entered credentials for the report to run that point to a custom datasource and supplied the appropriate credentials to run the report.
However, I don't want to have to reconfigure that just to deploy a slightly modified version of the report.
How can I get around this? Or what is the proper work around? I just want to change the background color from dark gray to light gray on a header column....
I have the following report I need to create with 2 parameters. An equal OR not equal. I need the report to have a drop down that has equal to '1024' or a drop down option that IS NOT equal to '1024'. I also need the WHERE clause to return the equal or not equal based on the user selection inside of SSRS.
SELECT user1 AS [Company], reference AS [PAI_REF], statenumber, LEFT(user4, 7) AS [Supplier Code], user4 AS [Company Information], user8 AS [Transaction Type], user2 AS[Invoice Number], --CONVERT(VARCHAR,CONVERT(Date, user3, 103),101) AS [Invoice Date], [routeName] AS [Route], username AS [User Name]
I have requirement where first I need to show only one report parameter. Based on user selection I need to prompt or show the user another report parameter.
Say suppose I have 3 parameters. User selects first value in first parameter I should not show the other 2 parameters. If user selects second value in first parameter I should show second parameter and hide third parameter. There is no relationship between these 2 parameters except user selection. Similarly if user third value in first parameter then I should show third parameter and hide second parameter.
Is this possible? I can not see any Visible property for report parameters.
Hi, I'm new to SQL Express 2005. I found information regarding : "Cannot open user default database. Login failed."on this forum but I think that in my case it's a bit different issue. I have a website (ASP.NET 2.0) accessing DB, in the mean time Windows Service tries to update some data in the same DB (Service runs as NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SYSTEM). The second connection is rejected: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user ....". Problem occurs only when both: service and website are running at the same time. So service and website are running without problems when they are connecting DB exclusively. My connection string is: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|DataDirectory|spider-lab.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
I am working on Sql server Reporting Services(Sql Server 2005),
i have designed a Report and deployed that report on Report Server, on this report i need to show the user selected values in page header by using Parameters which i have already created in the Report.
There are 35 to 40 fields in the Front End(Asp.net2.0)
on passing all these values from front end Report is prompting for parameters which is not desired for my case even though i have made ShowParameterPrompts to false.
In my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE), pubs Database has a Stored Procedure "byroyalty":
ALTER PROCEDURE byroyalty @percentage int
AS
select au_id from titleauthor
where titleauthor.royaltyper = @percentage
And Table "titleauthor" is: au_id title_id au_ord royaltyper

NULL NULL NULL NULL //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI;"
Dim connection As SqlConnection = New
SqlConnection(connectionString)
Try
connection.Open()
Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("byroyalty", connection)
command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure ................................................................... .................................................................. etc. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// From the above-mentioned (1), (2) and (3), you can see how much I am lost/confused in attempting to do this task. Please help and give me some guidances and good key instructions for getting the output parameter printed out in the FORM.vb in my VB 2005 Express project.
I run these stored procedure to build the report and I am able successfully to build the report but I need some prompts to in the report to get the specific data .
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Sharepoint_Ticket_Report] @StartDate DATETIME, @EndDate
[Code] ....
And for prompts how to create created_by and message_type dropdowns as shown in picture.
We have a lot of VB6 code that uses ADO 2.7 and stored procs wih Sql 2005. I have noticed recently that if I use the follow code:
Dim con As New ADODB.Connection con.ConnectionString = "driver={SQL Server};server=(local);database=test;uid=sa;pwd=" con.Open
Dim com As New ADODB.Command
com.ActiveConnection = con com.CommandText = "usp_GetSetting" com.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
com.Parameters.Append com.CreateParameter(...)
It will fail. the reason being the after setting the CommantText and Type ADO then seems to automatically go away and populate the Parameters collection from the databases metadata according to the SP we are calling.
I have never seen this before, I thought the Refresh method had to be called before the parameters collection get populated.
I am new to SQl Server, i have created a logical model for a database that i am creating for a project. Is there a way i can assign automatic values to my Primary Key (PK) Column other than using an identity?
For example i have a table called indicator for which the Primary Key (PK) is indicator_identifier; i want the primary key values to be ind_0001 ind_0002 ind_0003
Please note that i may be populating the tables from a VB.NET form
In Report Builder(SSRS 2005 sp2), is there a way to automatically save a report the user is working on? The problem is that somtimes a user would be spending a long time working on a new report and the connection would timeout and the user has to start all over again.
I am SSRS user, We have a .net UI from where we want to pass multi select values, but these values are comma separated in the database. how can I write a sql query such that when I select multi values on my UI, the comma separated values are take care of.
I have two practice tables I have created and want to export the values of one into the source table. I want to know if I can export into a table and have the destination table automatically give a primary key value to a record? I haven't been able to figure this out even after fiddling with the "Enable identity insert" checkbox under the Column Mappings tab. I have created source tables with and without primary keys and neither works because of the fact that I need to have a value for a primary key in order to INSERT into the destination.
Do I have to copy the source records into a staging table and assign the PK values myself by hand? This can't be the answer.
