Apr 5, 2004We just started using SQL Server. I'm new on the SQL side of things. We have SQL setup in a test environment with users connecting and performing job related functions. An in house programmer has developed software for our users which connects to the SQL Server
I'm looking for information pertaining to events that have teken place within SQL. Does SQL give you details on updates and changes made to specific tables. I'm looking for some way of looking up item numbers and the user that entered the data. We have noticed that some of the users may be entering in wrong data within certain tables. And would like to educate them on what they are doing wrong.
I need to know what certain users are logging and entering into our SQL Server.
What are the most detailed logs that SQL Server provides that has information on what the users are doing has far an entering in data.

Where To Find Detailed Error Report When Setting Up Mirroring Fails
Dec 14, 2006I had a problem with mirroring that I only was able to resolve when I attempted to replicate instead. Replication gave me an error message that expained the problem; mirroring simply failed.
Is there any place where mirroring logs the details of what it is doing & why it is failing?
BTW, the problem was that the server name was changed after SQL was installed. Although i knew this, the forums indicated taht SQL 2005 automatically picks up the new name after it is restarted. This apparently is not true...

DB Mail And Notify Operator Through DB Mail Error Could Not Retrieve Item From The Queue
Feb 2, 2007I've set up DB mail and sent a test e-mail and that comes through fine.
I set up an Operator with email Name: DWhelpton@k-and-s.com;MWeaver@k-and-s.com
I created a job and set up the notifications to e-mail the operator on failure.
When the job runs and fails, I do not get an e-mail and I get the following exception in the db mail log:

Error Sending Mail With Send Mail Task
Feb 6, 2008I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:
A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com)
B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com)
C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com)
D - My email address (my.name@company.com)
I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.
Detailed Db Configuration With MS SQL
Oct 23, 2001I would like to determine the configuration for a given database in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0/2000.
If you examine the properties of databases using SQL Server Enterprise Manager, you can see that certain options exist for a database.
For example:
- ANSI NULL Default
- Recursive triggers
- Auto Update statistics
- Torn page detection
- Auto close
- Auto shrink
- Auto create statistics
- Use quoted identifiers
Can this information be obtain via a stored procedure?
What about information regarding the SQL server configuration itself?
If I use SQL Server Enterprise Manager, I can get properties for the
server.
For example:
- "Dynamcially configure SQL server memory" vs "Use a fixed memory size"
Is this information available?

Subscription Error : Failure Sending Mail: An Error Has Occurred During Report Processing

Hello,
On the development server, I am trying to work with subscriptions . Report Server is windows authenticated.
When no paramters exist for the report, the sucbscription is successful.
But if there are paramters for the report, email delivery fails.
These are not data driven subscriptions.
Did anyone face the same problem ? Can anyone tell me where to start debugging since logfiles just say failure to send the email.

XML Task Validation - No Detailed Errors
Sep 18, 2007I am using the XML Task to validate an XML file against the XSD schema.
Everything works fine, but about detailed errors in the case of the failed validation?
1) I specified €śOperationsResult€? Destination property to save the task execution outcome into a file.
2) Also, I turned on all possible events for logging.
Unfortunately, neither option produces a detailed validation error message.
Option 1 saves one single word €śtrue€? or €śfalse€? to a file.
Logging produces the following message:
Task failed to validate "A validation error occurred when validating the instance document.".
As end result, it is impossible to pinpoint the problem with the xml file and, consequently, fix the issue.
The expected behavior should be a detailed error message like the following (produced by StylusStudio):
file:///c:/temp/fafa/feed_bad.xml:12824,52: Datatype error: Type:InvalidDatatypeFacetException,
Message:Value '244212' must be less than or equal to MaxInclusive '4'.
It shows a precise location of the error in the XML file plus the specific XSD rule which failed.
Any idea what could be done to get the detailed error message for the XML Task Validation?

I have a code for creating view in T-SQL. I want to ask you guys, i want to make this result set should grouped by DepoAdi column and StokKodu (this is an alias sure you can get it from code). Did i make it on group by line? My second problem is i want to add 2 columns to this query. This 2 column will calculate some values with SUM function and - operator. At CRM.Depolar.DepoBilgileri table i have a column named Miktar (this one stores int type datas) and i have a column named islemturu(this one stores 1 or 0). I want to calculate Miktar values which rows has islemturu column 0 and subtract them from which rows has islemturu column 1 value and this computing action must be based on Grouped columns.

Why Additional Information: System Error.?

the problem is:
no data in the datagird, only a record "null" in all field.
I find a sample is add a "sqlDataAdapter1.Fill".
but if I add the code:

Package Crashes Without Error Information
May 20, 2006I am creating an SSIS Package to import some data. The package contains a big for each loop with 3 parallel running nested for each loops. The package crashes within the big loop without returning any error information. It starts up the sqldumper and genreates an dump - but does not report any error to the UI (Visual Studio or dtexec). While I am running only one for each loop and disable the others the package executes successfully. Has anyone an idea what might be wrong ? or is the only chance to submit a bug report ?

How To Get Extended Error Information From Stored Procedure

I have a stored procedure in SQL server 2005. It works fine when I execute it from the Management Studio.But when executing it from ASP.NET code like this:
..... Of course more code is executed before this call .....int retVal = this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
retVal is -1. But -1 doesn't really tell me what the problem is?
Is there anyway to get extended error information so I can figure out whats going wrong?
(The stored procedure was working fine in SQL server 2000 before I upgraded to SQL server 2005. I use .NET Framework 1.1 and ODBC Sql Native Client to access the 2005 server.)

1 computer with VS2005.
When I try to make merge replication I have this Error :Header information is either corrupted or missing.
I search on the web and find some information like that error is cause by NIS (Norton Internet Security) but I dont have it.
I have another mobile software in VS 2003 and I don't have trouble whit im. It work perfectly but not in VS 2005.
I can access to the replication folder. I use sscesa20.dll.

Sep 6, 2007I'm sorry for asking this, as I'm sure tha the answer is in one of the 208 matches I found searching on "ErrorCode". Unfortunately, this project is overdue and I need a solution fairly soon.
I should add that I've only been developing in SSIS since August 2007.
I have a complicated package, loading about 17 outputs of the XML Source into staging tables. I have been using the error outputs of any standard components I use, out of faith that, if Microsoft provided them, then they should be useful for something. I've been directing all of the error outputs for one of the 17 "tables" from the XML Source into a Union All, and then into an "Error staging table", for each of the 17 outputs. This table includes all of the possible columns, but permits nulls for all of them. It also incldues the ErrorCode and ErrorColumn.
Unfortunately, if these latter two are useful for anyting, I haven't found it yet.
Right now, working with our first "mostly real" data, I'm getting 100% of my input rows written into error tables. Unfortunately, the information in the tables are of limited use in determining what went wrong. For instance, the ErrorColumn seems only to be populated if there was a specific error with a specific column. The Lookup component, doesn't seem to populate ErrorColumn, even if only one column was used for the lookup! No information about the component producing the error output is supplied in the error output, either, which makes it difficult to determine which of the five or so possible error outputs is the one that produced the particular error row.
This proves that I'm missing something simple. How do people handle errors? In my custom components, I learned to use the Fire* methods to produce detailed messages before redirecting the row to the error output, but this sort of thing is not available through the standard components.
Do I really have to create a separate "add useful information to the error output" component, and use it on each error output?
Sorry for the attitude, but just when I think I'm winning, SSIS brings me back down to earth!

In Service Manager, all SQL Server 2005 services are running with Logon as Administrator, and I am also able to connect to SSAS, SSRS, SSIS via Management studio both via Windows authentication and sa account information.
Would you please inform if I have to change any security settings before SP2 installation here.

Error Trying To Add Information To DateTime Field Using Data Access Layer
Sep 20, 2006I am taking my first stab at a 3 tier architecture within ASP.Net. I have been adding datasets and creating a new Insert to add certain parts to a table. I am trying to add a date field called 'DateAdded' and is setup in SQL as a DateTime. When Visual Studio auto created the dataset, the Insert function is not "DateAdded as Datetime" as I would have expected, but it is "DateAdded as System.Nullable(Of Date)". There is a space in between 'Of' and 'Date'. If I keep the space in there the insert function shows an error that says "Arguement not specified for parameter DateAdded of funtion( etc. etc.). If I take the space out, the error on the insert function goes away but there is an error within the "OfDate" that says "Array bound cannot appear in type specifiers". I am confused on why the date format changed and how I can get a date to go into the database using the autogenerated datasets from Visual Studio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I am trying to set up a data flow task. The source is "SQL Command" which is
a stored procedure. The proc has a few temp tables that it outputs the final
resultset from. When I hit preview in the ole db source editor, I see the
right output. When I select the "Columns" tab on the right, the "Available
External Column List" is empty. Why don't the column names appear? What is
the work around to get the column mappings to work b/w source and
destination in this scenario.
In DTS previously, you could "fool" the package by first compiling the
stored procedure with hardcoded column names and dummy values, creating and
saving the package and finally changing the procedure back to the actual
output. As long as the columns remained the same, all would work.
Thats not working for me in SSIS.

What is this SqlQueryNotificationService in my database? Is it a SQL Server 2005 thing? Why the same kind of stored procedure does not exist in other databases, but BW_Content? This error is getting repeated most probably every second and is filling up our server.
I believe our corporate IT people removed our domain accounts from BWCINC domain to BWCORP domain and probably some application which is using BWCINCHoffK credential is getting errored out. I tried to locate this application and was not successful.
Is there anyway that I can stop this ERRORLOG from growing? How can I delete these log entries so that I can make space on our Hard Drive? Is there an easy way in SQL Server 2005 to locate which application is creating this error?

The 'SqlQueryNotificationService-...' is the service created by SqlDependency when you call SqlDependency.Start (). The problem you describe appears because the 'dbo' user of the database is mapped to the login that originally created this database. The SqlDependency created queue has an EXECUTE AS OWNER clause, owner is 'dbo' and therefore this is equivalent to an EXECUTE AS USER = 'dbo'. The error you see is reported by the domain controller when asked to give information about the original account 'dbo' mapps to (that is, BWCINCHoffK'): Error code: (Win32) 0x534 (1332) - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
To solve the issue, change 'dbo' to match a correct login, using either sp_changedbowner or ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[dbname] TO [somavalidlogin]
To find the databases that have this problem, run this query:
select name, suser_sname(owner_sid) from sys.databases
The databses that have the problem will show NULL on the second column.

To remove the entries, use sp_cycle_errorlog to force a new errorlog file, then delete the huge log file.
