Dear All
can any one help me to determine the exact size of existing row contain data type : varchar ?

Hi,
I have the fields like this.
Session1 Session2 Session3 Session4----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SQL Server-Part1 SQL Server-Part2 ASP.Net CSS
C# SQL Server-Part3 ASP.Net Javascript
I have set the Full-Text to all the columns. For searching i wrote the below query
SELECT * FROM <TABLE NAME> WHERE CONTAINS(*,'"SQL Server-Part1"')
My Result expectation is: The First Record should come. But the result of the query bring the two records. It see the "SQL Server" string also. I need to find the exact word. How to do it? Please answer me as soon as possible. Ganesh.
I ran a query to see how big my database on my SQL Server is and do not understand the metrics. I want to see how much of my 10GB database is left.

Hi all,
Does any one know how to determine file size using SQL stored Procedure or a function?
My requirement is that I need to kill a file from a specific directory if the file size is 0 kb or 1 kb
Any Ideas?
Simple question...
When I use the full version of SQL Management Studio, I can run a report to view the size. How can I do this with SQL Mgmnt Express?
I'm developing a website that will be suported by a SQL Server database. The estimated number of records for that database will be around one million. I'm concerned with the possibility of my machine being unable to respond to the needs of such a database so i decided to acquire a new one. How do i calculate the hard disk and RAM i'm going to need for this database to function properly ? I know that i can make a HD prediction by adding the sizes of each field of my database and multiplying by one million but i don't know how much KBs each field occupy (some of them -few- will even be free text fields). And the RAM ?
Help... Anybody ?
Thanks,
Carlos.

Is there any method to find out the size of an image datatype currently in the database. For example I have 2 tables that contain the same image, but the archive table is not displaying the same as the main. I am thinking the image file was corrupted somehow but don't know how to check this out.
Any ideas?
I am working on Sql Server 2012. and I have multiple databases there. Out of those, i want to move one of my databases to other SQL server 2012, For that i was trying to get approximate size of my database on current server. As i don't have the admin rights, so i can't get that. Can i get the approximate size by right clicking on database and by using the size property Under Database category to get the size idea?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on complex invoice document that handles various types of invoicing, credit, and progress bill customer facing documents. Â I am faced with same problem I see many SSRS devs posting on. Â And that is extra blank pages, being generated because the report width exceeds the width of the page.
My problem is I cannot shrink the horizontal width of the tablix and therefore the report width either...
While I would have done things differently if developing from scratch, the tablix in question has only one column and objects contained in rectangles are placed in the row/column cell.....The link to the image below shows the row I am currently working on. Â Essentially all the client wants a columnar report with column lines, closed footers, etc... Â so rather redoing the whole tablix, which I still might do, I am using rectangles with the column then lining them up. Â Anyway, that is a whole 'nuther post. Â My specific questions are: Â
Invoice in Report Builder
1. In the image I have selected the parent rectangle. Â The children are other rectangles and the data is with grandchildren textboxes that exist within those rectangles. Â I clearly have a bit of right side white space in the main parent rectangle, but there is no sizing tool on a hover... just move tool. Â And if I change the rectangle size in the prop form it just snaps back to the cell width. Â How do I size the parent rectangle and keep if from expanding.
Here I am guessing that to actually reduce the horizontal width of tablix and then the report, I have to first decrease the parent width of the rectangles that occur in each row?
I have a data field in a SSRS Report that contains the requestor's User Id. Their ID is prefixed with "PRIV"...And I'm assuming that is the direct result of the network domain. I need to create a SSRS expression to determine if the User ID is prefixed with "PRIV" and then parse that out and use what's behind the "" as their true User Id.
example...."PRIVID123456" should appear as "ID123456" in the report data line.
Is it safe to change 'max text repl size (B)' on a live system while it is running with users and services running?? I'm using SQL Server 7.0 running on Windows 2000.

Does anyone have experience with Full Text catalogs on large tables? We have a full text catalog on a table with about 30 million rows. Acording to BOL, once you get over 1 million you'll need to make some adjustements. Our system works, but we randomly get the following errors with ad hoc queries. The server has 8GB of RAM and 4 3GHz processors. Does anyone have experience working with a table this big? Any suggetions as to what could cause these errors? The only thing I could find was BUG#: 469483 on MS's site, but we're not using any OR clauses
Thanks

The Upgrade Advisor noted that SQL Server 2005 changed the way full text catalogs are utilized. It says that you must ensure tha tthe file group associated with the base table has enough space to accomodate the additional space requirements for full-text indexes. It says to use the formula (2*FTK + 34 bytes) * RC where FTK=full text key size and RC=rowcount of the table. I know which table but if I do sp_help on the table, it doesn't tell me anything about the size of the full text key. I've tried searching TechNet and I'm either not finding the answer or I don't know enough to know if it's there. Can anybody help me?

Hi,
I wrote this sql function which takes a comma seperated string of numbers, splits the numbers seperately and stores it in a table. I have specified the input parameter type as text instead of varchar, the size of the string can get more than 8000.
But the function is not working properly if the input size is more than 8000. For example if the input string is of length 8005 and this is the input string from 7995 to 8005 - '123,124,125'. It works fine till 123 and after that it throws an error, Syntax error converting the varchar value '124,125' to a column of data type int. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this. I am using string functions like charindex, substring. I can post the full function if you want.
Thanks.
Hello,
I have a matrix with a title column. My matrix has a column that is expanded in 2 with data changes
as followings:
MY TITLE1 MY TITLE2
YEAR 2007 YEAR 2008 } matrix
matrix Column column } matrix
How can I change de title (MY TITLE2) differently according to the changing value of the dynamic data column ?
My title2 has to be located above the YEAR 2008 and has to be different from MY TITLE 1.
Thank you for your help.
Best Regards,
Hirondelle.
Hello :
In a title of a column of a table, I put a too long text, with sorting, but when I spread (display) the report has a problem on text of the title of the column there.
The probleme settles (arises) when I activate the sorting to post (show) the image of sorting.
How to fit the size of the cell to the text?
Thenk's.
I am stuck! and need help!
I have a problem I can't seem to find the solution with this aweful limitations on VARCHAR fields of 255.
Within a stored procedure called Store_Check, I need to dynamically build a string (@string) using VARCHAR(255) since the text datatype can't be used in a stored procedure.
So,this string is built according to whether the Store ID is NOT NULL. So if the StoreID is not null, I start building this string 'Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID1, @address2'. There are 20 StoreID's passed into Store_Check. IF all 20 StoreID's are not NULL, the executed String greatly exceeds 255 because the string winds up looking like this
'Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID1, @address1 Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID2, @address2 Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID3, @address3 Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID4, @address4 Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID5, @address5 Exec Update_Store_Address @StoreID6, @address6 etc. etc.'
I am not executing this string within the StoredCheck procedure. It needs to be passed as ONE string to a VB program and it gets executed by the VB program. Even if I create 4 local variables and concatenate them, it stops at the 255th character.
Also, a local varialbe of type TEXT cannot be declared within stored procedure.
What can I do? I am stuck!

Impact on performance of changing Text column size.
However, many of them were regarding older releases of SQL Server.
Does the architecture in 2012, 2014 releases make this less of an issue ?
In other words, why bother going from Varchar(1000) to Varchar(50) ?
I'm just thinking maybe there is column compression automatically now.
Hello,A while back I dropped a text column from a SQL Server 7 databaseroughly 3GB in size. I expected the size of the database to decreaseby around 1GB, but no change occurred. After searching usenet, Idiscovered that SQL Server 7 has no way of reclaiming that space, butthat there is some command that can be run in SQL Server 2000 thatwill reclaim it.I have since migrated this database to SQL Server 2000, and am nowtrying to figure out what that command is, but cannot locate anyusenet posts about it... also tried searching books online, but can'tfind anything that way either.Does anyone know what I should run? Thanks,Tom
View 6 Replies View RelatedI received a pipe-delimited file that I need to import. (It has the equivalent of 650+ fields on a single row). While I had no issue importing it (SSIS 2008) I noticed that the input connector, Advanced option, shows an "OutputColumnWidth" of only 50 for all fields.
I say only 50 because some of the pipe-delimited fields can supposedly have a max of 250 characters so I'm concerned about potential data truncation. Unless someone has another thought I plan to manually set those OutputColumnWidth fields to 250.

can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?
I'm currently working on a match function to compare two char based columns in differnet tables to create a join.
In this particular case, I'm using a few different approaches to create a higher match ratio, as typos do happen.
For instance I use a join function using convert(char(10), tbla.field) = convert(char(10), tblb.field) to match only using the first 10 characters, as a lot of records have different endings, but are in fact the same.
Are there any other ways I could attempt to make matches? I was wondering if there was a dedicated string comparison operation giving me a percentage feedback. Debut joining dbut would give an 80% match, and thus I would leave it up to the user to decide to minimum match requirements.
Thanks in advance

I've a table with values that have the '-' char, ex:LO-AS-1.I'm trying to search the table for that value but it returns more records since it breaks the search term into several others:
SELECT * FROM sys.dm_fts_parser ('"LO-AS-1"', 2070, 0, 0) returns:
lo-as-1
lo
as - noise word
1 - noise word
nn1 - noise word
Is there anyway of searching for the exact word? With LIKE it works fine but it's very slow....
Hi.
I have some contracts and i want to find for every specific contract (every contract can be repeated 2-3 or more times (same policynumber) the contracts that have the same date. That's the contracts INSIDE the contract that have the same data.
I was trying something like
select distinct m.masterpolicyno from multicontract m
where m.category=3
and m.issuedate = m.issuedate
but it think i must use "having" and "in" but i can't figure it out.
Any help?
Thanks.
For a long running stored procedure, how can I determine the SQL statement within the stored procedure that is currently running?
The Activity Monitor only shows the name of the stored procedure and whether it is a SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE, never the complete statement.
Thank you.
In one of my packages, I am trying to create functionality that is similar to the fuzzy grouping transformation in that it takes a set of records and returns a subset of unique records. However, rather than fuzzy-matching columns which creates significant overhead, I just want to compare columns exactly, similar to how the lookup transformation works. At this point, data has already been fuzzy unique/duplicate seperated, this step is to only keep one record for each exactly similar dupe for an alias table.
At the moment, I am doing this (with lack of scalability foresight) with a fuzzy grouping transformation with all columns set to exact except for one which is set to fuzzy with a minimum similarity of 0.99. While this worked during development when I was testing with a small subset of data, it is unreasonable for the ~5mil records of production data it needs to operate on.
I am sure there is an efficient way to do this. I have thought about using a lookup transformation or combinations thereof, but I have not come to a definite solution yet.
Does anyone have any experience doing something similar to what I am trying or have any suggestions/ideas/questions/etc? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hello All,
I'm looking for a TSQL function or technique that when provided a date time as string and also a format, it must return a valid tsql datetime object/variable.
for example somethig like
GetDateTime('20071010', 'YYYYMMDD') or GetDateTime('10/10/2008', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
Essentially I want to get away from Implicit conversion from string to datetime. I want better control over this to ensure we dont run into any issues when our code runs on systems configured to be on various cultures.
I can even live with a few fixed formats and not being able to support arbitrary formats.
Any help/ideas/advise will be appreciated.
