Display A Table From A Gridview But Every Column Has Its Own Where Arguments??
Mar 10, 2008
Hi,
please help me, i have a data driven site,
i need to display a table who look like this
Name Total Used Remaining
A 10 5 5
B 20 13 7
C 12 12
if you would look on the field of total, used and remaining, they look like an excel formula which is total - used = remaining or vise versa.
but the problem in this table is the database, it look like this
name On/Off
A 1
A 1
A 0
and soon.......
B 1
B 0
B 1
and soon.... until C
so how do i count the total, is the number of A's or B's or C's in the whole database then Group By the 'name' field
then how do i count the used is the number of ON in the On/Off field while remaining is counting the Off,
so my question is i have RUN this using 3 different gridview each has its own datasource, that look like this
for the used select name, count(on/off)
from myTable
where on/off = 1
group by name
for the remaining select name, count(on/off)
from myTable
where on/off = 0
group by name
and for the total, just used the same Select but without the where clause,
i get this problem when the field "used" (please refer from the 1st table) it has a blank value, which is because my data base show that in deed name "C" has not been used, but eve though it should show '0' instead of a blank,
so how can i do that???
please help me, thanks

Can someone help me with this issue? I am trying to update a record using a sp. The db table has an identity column. I seem to have set up everything correctly for Gridview and SqlDataSource but have no clue where my additional, phanton arguments are being generated. If I specify a custom statement rather than the stored procedure in the Data Source configuration wizard I have no problem. But if I use a stored procedure I keep getting the error "Procedure or function <sp name> has too many arguments specified." But thing is, I didn't specify too many parameters, I specified exactly the number of parameters there are. I read through some posts and saw that the gridview datakey fields are automatically passed as parameters, but when I eliminate the ID parameter from the sp, from the SqlDataSource parameters list, or from both (ID is the datakey field for the gridview) and pray that .net somehow knows which record to update -- I still get the error. I'd like a simple solution, please, as I'm really new to this. What is wrong with this picture? Thank you very much for any light you can shed on this.

I have a webform that I am wanting to display data from a database. Right now I am using the gridview but for future purposes when it comes to maintenance what would be the easiest way to do updates? For example, if I add a new record into the database I would like the webform to automatically update itself to show all the records including the new record I added. Do I need to use a "table" and somehow connect it to a database? Do any stored procedures need to be created? Suggestions/ideas/codes help help help would be verrrry much appreciated!!! Also I am using MS Server 2003 and C# as the programming language. Thank you!!!!

Good Day, Please help me, I have a database that looks like this, Building No. Floor No. Room No. Customer Name Appliances Appliances Codea 1 01 John TV 12a 1 02 //up tob 20 10 james Ref. 22b 20 10 joe Microwave 15 //and soon so if you would notice some rooms are vacant, as it usually happens, the buildings, floors and rooms are fixed except for the customers and the appliances. so at first i made this gridview and display this data in this manner:Customer Location (Building + floor) total rooms Used Rooms Available rooms A1 2 1 1 B2010 2 2 0 so if you would look at the table above, it just SUM up all tenants in a specific Location then Group it by Customer location,but i need to add the appliances in a different format like this: Customer Location (Building + floor) total rooms Used Rooms Available rooms TV Ref Microwave
A1
2 1 1 tick
B2010
2 2 0 tick tick so this is what i need to show, i already have done the first table (w'o appliances) but how can i make this second table?? please help me, SALAMAT PO.,Thanks

I have built an Advanced Search page which allows users to select which columns to return (via checkbox) and to enter search criteria for any of the selected columns (into textboxes). I build the SQL statement from the properties of the controls. Works great.
My problem is getting my gridview control to play nicely. At first I used a SqlDataReader and bound the gridview to it, thus giving me the ability to run new SQL statements through it (with different columns each time). Worked nicely. But, per Microsoft, sorting can only be done if the gridview is bound to a datasource control like the SqlDataSource. So I wrote the code to handle sorting. No big deal; worked nicely. But I could not adjust the column widths programmatically unless bound to a datasource control like the SqlDataSource. And could not figure out a work around.
So, I decided to use the SqlDataSource. Works great. Except, I cannot figure out how to run a new SELECT statement through the SQLDataSource and have the gridview respond accordingly. If I try to return anything other than the exact same columns defined declaratively in the html, it pukes. But I need to be able to return a new selection of columns each time. For example, first time through the user selects columns 1,2,3,4 – the gridview should show those 4 columns. The second time the user selects columns 2,5,7 – the gridview should those 3 columns (and ONLY those 3 columns). Plus support selection and sorting.
I am desperate on this. I've burned 2.5 days researching and testing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brad

Hi all,
I have created a trigger in SQLExpress which looking for any insertion to a specific table in a database:
Create Trigger Tg_Insert on [tablename]
FOR Insert
AS
Select * FROM Inserted
---------------------------------------------------------
Assume there is nothing wrong with this trigger as I have already checked the output with Query tool.
My question is how can I display the newly inserted data to the client? In my case, Console application.
I want to do something like Console.WriteLine("data from inserted table here");
How can I achieve this? FYI, I'm using VS2005 with sqlexpress 2005.
Thanks in advance.

SHAH

I have a table with a column AttributeNumber and a column AttributeValue. The data is like this:
OrderNo. AttributeNumber AttributeValue
1.-Order_1 2001 A
2.-Order_1 2002 B
3.-Order_1 2003 C
4.-Order_2 2001 A
5.-Order_2 2002 B
6.-Order_2 2003 C
So the logic is as follows:
I need to display in my query the values are coming from Order_1, means AttributreValues coming from AttibuteNumbers: 2001,2002,2003...and Order_2 the same thing.
Not sure how to create my Select here since the values are in the same table

I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension transformation to an SSIS package and have launched the Wizard to edit it. After selecting the source (a SQL Server 2005 instance), if I select a very large table (9+ million rows), I'm encountering two strange behaviors:
1. The wizard hangs for several minutes before displaying the columns from that table.
2. The wizard does not display the primary key column. This, of course, is the column I want to designate as the "business key", but can't because it's not displayed.
I know this is more like a fact table than a dimension, but this is not a data warehouse. This is just a very large table, and I need to update a field in certain records based on the contents of a source text file. Is there another transformation I should use to perform updates?

The documentation for sp_trace_generateevent states that the following arguments are available:
Arguments
[ @eventid=] event_id
Is the ID of the event to turn on. event_id is int, with no default. The ID must be one of the event numbers from 82 through 91, which represent user-defined events as set with sp_trace_setevent.
[ @userinfo= ] 'user_info'
Is the optional user-defined string identifying the reason for the event. user_info is nvarchar(128), with a default of NULL.
[ @userdata= ] user_data
Is the optional user-specified data for the event. user_data is varbinary(8000), with a default of NULL.
@userinfo is stored in the textdata column, which after inspecting sys.trace_columns is of type text with a max size of 1073741824.
@userdata is stored in the binarydata column whose type is image with a max size of 1073741824.
I am attempting to build a stack trace of sorts that will capture detailed information about the run-time code executed when an error (contained within a try/catch) occurred.
The sql returned from dm_exec_sql_text goes well beyond 8000 and is getting truncated.
I haven't found any hot-fixes for SQL Server 2005 that addresses this issue. Has anyone else bumped into this limitation or found any explanation on the inconsistency between the stored procedure€™s arguments and the column types that the values are stored in?

Hi, I am seeking a hopefully easy solution to spit back an error message when a user receives no results from a SQL server db with no results. My code looks like this What is in bold is the relevant subroutine for this problem I'm having. Partial Class collegedb_Default Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub submit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submit.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] WHERE [name] like '%" & textbox1.Text & "%'" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() If (SqlDataSource1 = System.DBNull) Then no_match.Text = "Your search returned no results, try looking manually." End If End Sub Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End Sub Protected Sub reset_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles reset.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End SubEnd Class I'm probably doing this completely wrong, I'm a .net newb. Any help would be appreciated. Basically I have GridView spitting out info from a db upon Page Load, but i also have a search bar above that. The search function works, but when it returns nothing, I want an error message to be displayed. I have a label setup called "no_match" but I'm getting compiler errors. Also, next to the submit button, I also have another button (Protected sub reset) that I was hoping to be able to return all results back on the page, similar to if a user is just loading the page fresh. I'd think that my logic would be OK, by just repeating the source code from page_load, but that doens't work.The button just does nothing. One final question, unrelated. After I set this default.aspx page up, sorting by number on the bottom of gridview, ie. 1,2,3,4, etc, worked fine. But now that paging feature, as long with the sorting headers, don't work! I do notice on the status bar in the browser, that I receive an error that says, "error on page...and it referers to javascript:_doPostBack('GridView1, etc etc)...I have no clue why this happened. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I 'm having problems retrieving a sqldatasource's asp:control parameter values from a selected row (during edit) in a gridview to update a record thru a stored procedure. The stored procedure is pretty intense, so I'd like to keep it in SQL if possible instead of creating the generic "update table set ..." that I see in most examples. It seems as if I can't get the propertyname right or something because it keeps giving me a "Procedure or function XX has too many arguments specified error". Maybe the DataKeyNames is not right?? I've tried just passing one parameter (ProductID-same as DataKeyNames) using "SelectedValue" as propertyname and still get the same. It's got to be something very simple, but I'm at a loss. All parameters are spelled the same in the sp (with an added "@" at start) as in the asp:controlparameters. Here's the gridview (asp.net 2.0 connecting to SQL Server 2005):
<asp:GridView ID="gvLoadEditProductPrices" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="ProductID">
<Columns>
<asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="ProductID" HeaderText="ProductID" HeaderStyle-BackColor="white" InsertVisible="False"
ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="ProductID" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="Product" HeaderText="Product" SortExpression="Product" ReadOnly="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="ProductCat" HeaderText="ProductCat" SortExpression="ProductCat" ReadOnly="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="VarRate" HeaderText="VarRate" SortExpression="VarRate" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="loadid" HeaderText="loadid" InsertVisible="False" ReadOnly="True"
SortExpression="loadid" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="loadamount" HeaderText="loadamount" SortExpression="loadamount" ReadOnly="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="ProductCol" HeaderText="ProductCol" SortExpression="ProductCol" ReadOnly="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="PageID" HeaderText="PageID" SortExpression="PageID" ReadOnly="True" />
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
and the sqldatasource's info:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:MARSProductEditor %>" ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient" SelectCommand="spGetLoadEditProductPrices" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" UpdateCommand="spUpdateProductPrices" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure" >
<UpdateParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="ProductID" Type="Int32" ControlID="gvLoadEditProductPrices" PropertyName=SelectedDataKey.Values("ProductID")></asp:ControlParameter>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="LoadID" Type="Int32" ControlID="gvLoadEditProductPrices" PropertyName=SelectedDataKey.Values("LoadID")></asp:ControlParameter>

<asp:ControlParameter Name="NewRate" Type="Double" ControlID="gvLoadEditProductPrices" PropertyName=SelectedDataKey.Values("NewRate")></asp:ControlParameter>
</UpdateParameters>

Hi!
I have a table like this below and it doesn't only contain English Names but it also contain Chinese Name.
CREATE TABLE Names
(FirstName NVARCHAR (50),
LastName NVARCHAR (50));
I tried to view the column using SQL Query Analyzer, It didn't display Chinese Character.
I know that SQL Server 2005 is using UCS-2 Encoding and Chinese Character uses Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) Encoding.
I want to read the FirstName and LastName columns and display in Window Form Data Grid and ASP.NET Grid View.
I tried to use this code below and it didn't work. It convert some of the English Name to Chinese Character and it display the chinese character and some still in the original unreadable characters.
Does anybody know how to read those character from SQL Table and display the correct Chinese Character without converting the English Name into Chinese also?
Thanks
int codePage = 950;
StringBuilder message = new StringBuilder();
Encoding targetEncoding = Encoding.GetEncoding(codePage);
byte[] encodedChars= targetEncoding.GetBytes(str);
.
message.AppendLine("Byte representation of '" + str + "' in Code Page '" + codePage + "':");
for (int i = 0; i < encodedChars.Length; i++)
{
message.Append("Byte " + i + ": " + encodedChars);
}
message.AppendLine(" RESULT : " + System.Text.Encoding.Unicode.GetString(encodedChars));

I have a products table in a Sql Server 2005 database. One of the fields contains the products attributes in xml. The most commonly used attribute is color. An element of color is inventory. This is the only way I could think of to maintain inventory numbers of each color of each product using someone else's (opensource) code. An example of an attribute field would be <?xml version="1.0"?> <ArrayOfAttribute
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Attribute>

Hi all, Im trying to use a temporary table along with a gridview. But i keep getting an issue that says that I need to declare the variable name.
Right now, I have it set up that I have a permanent table in the database that is serving as my temporary table, however Im running into issues if multiple users access at once... So I would like to dynamically create a table and use that for my temporary table and then drop the table when the user is done with it...
heres my code so far..Private Sub AddRecords(ByVal prodins As String, ByVal releaseins As String, ByVal opsysins As String, ByVal currelins As String, ByVal schemains As String, ByVal commentins As String, ByVal freeformins As String)
Dim tablevar As String = lblRequestor.TextDim tablename As String = "##" + tablevar Dim myConnection As New SqlClient.SqlConnection
Dim query As String = "CREATE TABLE " + tablename + "(UniqueID int Identity(1,1), Product varchar(50), OperatingSystem varchar(50), CurrentRelease varchar(50), Release varchar(50), SchemaSize varchar(50), Comments varchar(50), TempRelease varchar(50), FreeFormFlag varchar(50), sourcereleasedir varchar(125))"
Dim query2 As String = "INSERT INTO " + tablename + "(Product, Release, OperatingSystem, CurrentRelease, SchemaSize, Comments, TempRelease, FreeFormFlag) VALUES ('" & prodins & "','" & releaseins & "', '" & opsysins & "', '" & currelins & "', '" & schemains & "', '" & commentins & "', '" & currelins & "', '" & freeformins & "')"Dim myCommand As SqlClient.SqlCommandmyConnection = New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=mydatasource")
myConnection.Open()myCommand = New SqlClient.SqlCommand(query, myConnection)
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()myCommand = New SqlClient.SqlCommand(query2, myConnection)
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
myConnection.Close()
And here is my query for the gridview....
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM @tablename where FreeFormFlag <> 'Y'"
and
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="tablename" Name="tablename" PropertyName="Text" DefaultValue="##default" />
</SelectParameters>
so @tablename is set to the value of a textbox i have hidden which the textbox gets the username of the user and adds ## to it..so if john doe comes on... the texbox reads ##jdoe... and thats what im trying to name the temp table. SO the syntax is all there.... But i keep getting an error saying i need to declare @tablename... which is puzzling to me.. I tried doing
declare @tablename varchar (50)
select.....etc.
but then it brings up an error saying... @tablename is already declared, each variable must be unique..., You must declare @tablename... It tells me that its already declared then tells me i must declare it??? it makes no sense..
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,

I am JOINing a Table with a View, and the View can have multiple rows relating to the join condition(i.e. My view as 4 columns, and can look like the following:
A B C D
A E F G
B H I J
I want this to look like -
A B C D E F G
B H I J
I want one row, but not one column, I need to maintain each value in its own column, withinin a single row.
Doesn't matter to me if that transition happens in my View or as the outcome of my Join.
I've been looking at the PIVOT command, but that appears to only work with an aggrgrate function. I don't want to calculate/aggreagte anything, just combine my multiple rows in one.
This is my VIEW stmt -
SELECT [PKG ID] AS PKG_ID, [APPR GRP NAME], [USRID OF APPR], [APPR STATUS]FROM dbo.pkgapproversWHERE ([APPR STATUS] = 'approved') AND ([APPR GRP TYPE] = 'E')
This is my Join stmt - set @sql = N'SELECT DISTINCT [PKG ID] AS PKG_ID, [ELM ACT] AS Action, [END EXEC DATE] AS "Exec Date", [COMMENT] AS Comment, [USRID OF APPR]
FROM [PkgAction]
FULL JOIN vw_PkgApprovals
ON PkgAction.[PKG ID] = vw_PkgApprovals.[PKG_ID]
WHERE 1=1'
Any thoughts....Thanks

Hi,
1. This is what SET NOCOUNT ON does:
-- SET NOCOUNT to ON and no longer display the count message.
SET NOCOUNT ON
GO
SELECT au_lname
FROM authors
GO
2. Now, is it possible and what is the statement to use if I don't want to display
the header column? au_lname. Thanks.

Hello!
I am wracking my brain, trying to figure out how to return & display a column's description.
I work in Cold Fusion with SQL 2000 database.
My table name is "clients" and the column in question is "client_firstname"
The description of this column, as entered in Ent. Mgr, is "First Name"
If anyone can please help me, it would be very greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Now for the details...
I am trying this:
----------------------------------------------------------------
<cfquery name="get_ext2" datasource="#application.dsn#">
SELECT
objname As 'Column'
, value As 'Description'
FROM
::fn_listextendedproperty
('MS_Description', 'user', 'dbo', 'table','client', 'client_firstname', default)
</cfquery>
<cfoutput>
"#get_ext2.Column#"
"#get_ext2.Description#"
</cfoutput>
----------------------------------------------------------------
... and it is returning this:
"" ""
In my debug output, the query result appears as such:
----------------------------------------------------------------
get_ext2 (Records=0, Time=16ms)
SQL =
SELECT
objname As 'Column'
, value As 'Description'
FROM
::fn_listextendedproperty
('MS_Description', 'user', 'dbo', 'table','client', 'client_firstname', default)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Haaalp!
Thanks....
Richard

Would like to know if it is possiblefor any of you to suggest how to conditionally diaplay a Column based on the values of the other columns.
Here's my query
SELECT
[ProductionDay]
,DATEPART(wk,StartTime) AS WeekCount
,(AVG([RNTDuration])) AS AvgRNT
,MIN([RNTDuration]) As LeastRNT
,MAX([RNTDuration]) As WorstRNT
,dbo.fn_MinimumRNT_sp([ProgramNo],[Machine],[ProductionDay]) AS BestRNT
,dbo.fn_MinimumRNT(SubAssemblyNo,[Machine]) AS BestRNT_txt
,SUM([LoadingDuration]) AS LoadingTime
,[ProgramNo] AS ProgramNo
,COUNT(RNTID) AS PartsCount
,[SubAssemblyNo]
,[Sheetsize]
FROM [RPMS].[dbo].[List_MachineShopRNT]
where Machine = @iMachine and dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, [StartTime]),0) = @dtMonthStartDate
Group by DATEPART(wk,StartTime), [ProductionDay],[Machine],[ProgramNo],[SubAssemblyNo],[Sheetsize]
Here I would like to Run the function dbo.fn_MinimumRNT_sp or dbo.fn_MinimumRNT if the ProgramNo is 100
Thank you

Hi,I have a DataGrid whose DataSource is an SQLDataSource. This SQLDataSource references a SQL Server table with an Identity column, named Id. The SQLDataSource has generated an Update statement for me, but this only works if the Id column is selected for display in the DataGrid, and has Visible = True. If not, then the @original_Id parameter to the generated Update statement has a value of Nothing, and the Update has no effect. So is there a way to enable the Update statement to work, without the user having to see the Id column in the DataGrid? Many thanks,Keith.

My first ASP.NET/SQL project. I'm creating an Asset Management DB. I wish to view the Asset number, the full name of the user it's assigned to and the Make and Model of each record in the DB. However assets are split into different categories e.g. monitors, PCs, Preinters etc. and they are all in different tables. The SQL below displays the asset number, Name of person assigned and the model of the asset.
SELECT Hardware.AssetNo, [User].FullName, MonitorModel.Model, PCModel.Model AS Expr1, PrinterModel.Model AS Expr2
FROM Hardware INNER JOIN
[User] ON Hardware.UserID = [User].UserID INNER JOIN
Model ON Hardware.ModelID = Model.ModelID LEFT OUTER JOIN
MonitorModel ON Model.MonitorModelID = MonitorModel.MonitorModelID LEFT OUTER JOIN
PCModel ON Model.PCModelID = PCModel.PCModelID LEFT OUTER JOIN
PrinterModel ON Model.PrinterModelID = PrinterModel.PrinterModelID
This outputs:-
Asset number FullName Model Expr1 Expr2
00000 User Name Model NULL NULL
00001 User Name NULL Model NULL
00002 User Name NULL NULL Model
However what i hope to acheive is output Model, Expr1, Expr2 into one column like so:-
Asset number FullName Model
00000 User Name Model
Can i do this in the SQL or do i have to do it in my ASP.NET (VB) Page?
Using VSWD 2005 Ex Edition and SQL Server 2005 Ex Edition
Thank you for your replies

I am trying to display component usage in January for the past year, if I want to display the year in different column, what should I do?
eg.
component_id component_description qty_used_on_2005_Jan qty_used_on_2006_Jan
C58B0BDD tape drive 2 3
Currently I am using this sql:
select cast(year(date_complete) as varchar(10)) + ' Jan' as Year, component_id, component_description,sum(component_qty) as total_qty_used
from view_jobComponent
where month(date_complete) = 1group by component_id, component_description, cast(year(date_complete) as varchar(10)) + ' Jan'order by component_id, component_description
which I will get something like this:
Year component_id component_description total_qty_used
2005 Jan C58B0BDD tape drive 22006 Jan C58B0BDD tape drive 3
