When the user types a userID which has no data in the database can I display an error msg instead of the chart and table that is displayed on entering a valid userID.

Installed SQL server 2000 as a SERVER in one machine and Client tools of SQL server 2000 in another machine as CLIENT.
Able to connect and view SERVER machine SQL SERVER 2000 database from CLIENT machine and it is working fine.
while trying to connect locally SQL Server 2000 in CLIENT machine itself,getting the Error "VNSAPI32.dll not found or Missing"
Not used Banyan VINES network, still getting
SQL server does not exist or Access denied "ConnectionOpen(Connect())"

I've a complex stored procedure, which I'm trying to get a list of one or more users based the list of records that are being display. If I mentioned the overall store procedure here it'll turn you off, so I'll put the questions in bitesize chunks.
Example would be if Bob and Luke work for Acrm Corp and John for Maxwellarms Ltd, and there was an intimediate table which linked both. With my stored procedure I want to display both names in the same row as Acrm Corp. Is there a way to do this?

I have this fairly generic code I've created where I return data from an SQL table in a DataList control. I want to take it to the next level and return only the last record in the table, but I am unsure of how to do that. Perhaps I shouldn't even be using a DataList control, I'm not sure.

Jan 17, 2008I encountered a problem in SQL server 2005 (sp2) when using a Contains statement on a table with Full-Text indexation turned on.
I have a table named 'Dealer' with Full-Text index turned on for a couple of fields. I also have website that people can use to search this table. The search is 'freetext' and will result in the following statement:

WHERE contains ((Dealer.Company, Dealer.Address), ' "searchword*" ')
As you can see we search two columns (both are included in the index) and 'searchword' is the word people have filled in on the website. This all works pefectly.
The problem.
The problem occurs when users search for the word 'most'. There is a dealer in the dealer table with 'Materieelverhuur vd Most bv' as company name. The statement above should return this dealers records but for some reason it does not. I execute the query in the MS SQL Server Management Studio. Couple of things I checked to solve it:
- When the search word is 'mater' (start of the name) or 'vd' the record _IS_ found.
- When I change the company name to 'Materieelverhuur vd Mast bv' (with an 'a') and I search for the word 'mast' the record _IS_ found.
- When I change the companyname to ''Materieelverhuur vd Moste bv'' (wiht an 'e' appended') the record _IS_ found. This will work with other letters and numbers as well. But if I append a '.' or an '&' the records _IS NOT_ found. So there seems to be a problem with non-alphanumeric characters.
- The same problem occurs in the 'address' field with the word 'most'
- The problem occurs both on our live server as my local setup.
- I tried to rebuild the catalog but that didn't help anyhting.
- I can reproduce the exact same behaviour on a different table as well.
Has anyone seen a similar behaviour? Or can anyone tell me how to solve this? Any suggestion would be very much appreciated!

I'm running W2K3 SP1. The MDAC Configuration Checker reports MDAC 2.8 SP2. The only discrepancy is MSADCO.DLL, where the expected version is 2.82.1830.0 and my actual version is 2.82.2651.0 (svr03_sp1_gdr.060301-1546).
The error message I'm getting when I use the ODBC Administrator dialog to set up a new entry is: "The setup routines for the SQL Server ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver."
This is followed by a dialog titled: "Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed." The body text of the dialog is "Component not found in the registry."
Does anyone have any idea how I can repair this?

Service Broker TO Service Could Not Be Found Message Origin: Transport
Mar 30, 2007I am trying to send a message between to SQL Server 2005 instances on two different machines. I have checked all my routes and all my objects appear to be setup correctly. However, when running Profiler on the target machine, I receive the "This message has been dropped because the TO service could not be found. Service name: "[tcp://mydomain.com/TARGET/MyService]". To Display An Alert Message While Inserting A Duplicate Record
Dec 21, 2005I am duplicating a record from my asp.net page in to the database. When i click on save I am getting the following error message
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_clientinfo'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'clientinfo'. The statement has been terminated.
The above message i am getting since i have tried to duplicate the clientname field of my table which is set as the primary key.
What i want is instead of this message in the browser i need to display an alert saying "the clientname entered already exists" by checking the value from the database.

Delete Syntax To Delete A Record From One Table If A Matching Value Isn't Found In Another
Nov 17, 2006I'm trying to clean up a database design and I'm in a situation to where two tables need a FK but since it didn't exist before there are orphaned records.
Tables are:
Brokers and it's PK is BID
The 2nd table is Broker_Rates which also has a BID table.
I'm trying to figure out a t-sql statement that will parse through all the recrods in the Broker_Rates table and delete the record if there isn't a match for the BID record in the brokers table.
I know this isn't correct syntax but should hopefully clear up what I'm asking

May 1, 2007I've got a package which reads a text file into a table and updates another. I set up configurations so that I could import it into the SSIS store on both my dev and live servers. Now, I'm getting this error. I tried removing the configs and am still getting it.
I've been through each step and everything looks okay. Does anyone have any idea (a) what's wrong, (b) how to localise the error or (c) get any additional information? Or do I just have to recreate the package from scratch?

When I save the application event viewer and open it in another server, I do not see the above message, instead I get the following message:
" Can't find or load message DLL. Message DLL must be in path or in current directory."
Any thoughts to overcome this problem is appreciated.

Aug 8, 2007I run SB between 2 SQL servers. In profiler on an initiator side I see next error: 'This message could not be delivered because its message timestamp has expired or is invalid'. For the conversation we use best practice, i.e. target closes a conversation. Target side succeed to close conversation, but initiator still stay in DO (disconnect_outbound).
What is a reasone for the error? What to do?

I am having trouble specifying a message body that is valid. I mean for the client to send. If I leave it as null then everything is ok but if I create a memorystream and add a line of text it reports back it did not pass validation. I do not understand this and am not sure what to do. I need to send a message based on a code and text but do not know the format of the body that is allowed. The code I am refering to comes out of HelloWord_CLR because that is what I am formating my sample after. I call it the same way it calls the return message done in ServiceProc. I need to know the message format including body since this does not seem to work. A sample of the call is bellow.

Looping Through Stored Procedure Inside Another Stored Procedure And Displaying The Category And Then Displaying 1 Item In Each Category
Sep 21, 2006I used to do this with classic asp but I'm not sure how to do it with .net.Basically I would take a table of Categories, Then I would loop through those. Within each loop I would call another stored procedure to get each item in that Category. I'll try to explain, Lets say category 2 has a player Reggie Bush and a player Drew Brees, and category 5 has Michael Vick, but the other categories have no items.Just for an example.. I just don't know how to loop through and display it on a page. Right now I have two datareaders in the code behind but ideally something like this, I would think the code would go on the page itself, around the html.

I want to create a copy of the record where the user="user1" and insert that copy in the same table in a new created record. But I want the new record to have a value of "user2" in the user column instead of "user1" since it's a primary key

Sorry for the less then descriptive post title but I didn't find a better way to describe it. I'm developing an app in the express editions of VB and SQLserver. The application is a task/resource scheduler. The main form will have a datepicker or weekly overview and show all tasks scheduled per day. The problem is, I've got one or more people assigned to tasks and I wonder what's the best way to design this. Personally, I'd go for one Task table, a People table and a table that provides a link between them (several record per task, one for each person assigned linking TaskID and PplID). However, I don't see a nice way of showing this data to the end user, allowing him to edit/add etc on ONE screen.
To fix that the only way I see is just add columns to the Task table for every person with select boxes. This way everything can be done on one simple screen. This obviously does present some future issues.
On top of this, which people are available on a day varies and there should be an option to allow a user to set who is available on a specific day. Which would lead me to my first idea and add another table that would provide this. but then I'm having design issues again for the form.
I'm kinda stuck atm, can anyone shed some light on this. I'm sure there is an elegant way of doing this but I'm failing at finding it.

Query Timeouts When Updating A Record Retrieved Through A Websphere JDBC Datasource - Possible Record Locking Problem

We're running a Sage CRM install with a SQL Server 2000 database at the back end. We're using the Sage web services API for updating data and a JDBC connection to retrieve data as it's so much quicker.
If I retrieve a record using the JDBC connection and then try and update the same record through the web services, the query times out as if the record is locked for updates. Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what I'm doing wrong? If I just use DriverManager.getConnection() to establish the connection instead of the datasource, and then continue with the same code I don't get these record locking problems. Please find more details below.

The JDBC provider for the datasource is a WebSphere embedded ConnectJDBC for SQL Server DataSource, using an implementation type of 'connection pool datasource'. We are using a container managed J2C authentication alias for logging on.
This is running on a Websphere Application Server v6.1.
