I have bunch of reports that take same set of parameters. I am trying parametrize the report type so that depending on the report type selected, body should display that report when user hits "View report" button. How can I do this? Pardon me if there is an obvious solution as I am pretty new to the joys of MS Reporting Services.
I have a report parameter called para1 which is a drop-down list and what I want to do is display another report parameter based on the para1 selection.
So for example, para1 contains a, b, c choices. if a user selects b, I would like para2 to display but if the user selects a or c, I don't want the para2 to display.
I have built an ADP for an internal project. The rpoblem I'm having is that one computer is not displaying reports. No matter who the user is it will not show the reports. I thought it might be a software issue/conflict, so I changed out the hardrive and started with a clean OS with only MS Office installed on it. I have also made sure that the users have access rights to SQL along with all sprocs used in the reports. But I'm still having the same problem. There are four other computers in the office that use the application and all work fine. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
I want to use a hosting service that has ssrs capability. I am using asp to generate a website that's data driven by sql 2005. I want to know if it's possible to display the reports I've created to anyone on the web site with the use of URLs to the report rdl. Can this be done on an asp page or does it have to be an aspx page (.net)? It seems like this would be a very common application of sql and report services. Thank you for any help you can give me.
I've installed Report Server 2005 Express on my XP Pro workstation. When I try to pring up the reports page (http://localhost/Reports) all I get is the following:
I've been trying to go through the Video training from MSDN, and followed the install as they did it, but my page won't come up. Very new to this so any and all help would be greatly apprecicated. My IIS knowledge is beginner.

HelloI'm using FromView to Insert record into a DB. My SP checks for the existence and returns -1 if record already exists. I know that my SP returns -1 but how do I capture that into FormView and display error message to the user? All I get is the "Agreement was created" regardless of what SP returns.Your help is appreciated.MarkHere is the code I'm using:Protected Sub OnInserted(sender As Object, e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs) Dim retValParam As New SqlParameter("@RETURN_VALUE", SqlDbType.Int) retValParam.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue Dim valParam As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(retValParam.Value) If valParam = -1 Then lblMessage.Text = "The Account ID is not valid" Else if valParam = -2 then lblMessage.Text = "Agreement ID already exists" else lblMessage.Text = "Agreement was created" End If end if End Suband parts of ASPX page with FromView: InsertCommand="spNew_Agreement" OnInserted="OnInserted"> <FilterParameters> <asp:ControlParameter Name="Acct_Name" ControlID="txtAcct_Name" /> </FilterParameters> <InsertParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="acct_id" Type="string" /> <asp:Parameter Name="agreement_id" Type="string" /> <asp:Parameter Name="return_value" Type="int32" Direction="ReturnValue" /> </InsertParameters>
I am producing a report in Report Builder 2 containing a chart and table. The user is able to select single or multiple choices on a parameter called Specialty. My present chart is only suitable when one Specialty is selected. Therefore I only want this to be visible when the user has selected one Specialty. I am planning to create a second chart which is suitable for than more than one selection. So if the user selects more than one Specialty the existing chart will not be visible and instead will be replaced by the second.I think this should be done using Chart Properties>Visibility but cannot develop the logic of the expression.
Does anyone know if this is possible right out of the box in SSRS 2005 against an OLAP data source?
I have several parameters. My second parameter is to be filtered based on the first parameter (kinda like cascading), but how do I do this against an OLAP data source? Lets say I have param1 and param2 in a dataset. I want Param2 to show the locations only based on what I select in Param1. Same but a little different: I have Parameter1 and then my second parameter (Param2) is a boolean (True/False). I want to show Parameter 3/Paramater 4 based on selection of Param2 (So, if true, show Param3, if false, show Param 4) and remember we are doing this in a sequence. Can you do this thru SSRS? Any help would be great. Thanks for your time in advance. Kent
Is it possible to fill a parameter list with values based on another parameter value? Here's what I have so far (which hasn't worked)... I'd like to generate a report listing information for a student. The report viewer would first select a school from the first drop-down menu, and then the second drop-down menu would populate with the list of students at that school. I have a dataset that calls a sp which returns a list of schools (SchoolID and SchoolName fields from the database table). I have another dataset that calls a sp (with SchoolID as the parameter) which returns a list of students for that school. Both datasets return the appropriate data when tested individually, but when I set up the Report Parameters and build the report, these errors come up... The value expression for the query parameter '@SchoolID' refers to a non-existing report parameter 'SchoolID'. The report parameter 'Student' has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter "SchoolID". Forward dependencies are not valid. ...Is it possible for the reoprt to generate a list of available parameter values based on the value selected for another parameter? Any help you can give me would be great!! Thank you
I am using reporting services 2012, Can we make visibility of report parameter dynamic, ie can we make parameter visible or hide on certain condition or its visibility depends on other parameters Is this feature available in any other updated version of ssrs?
I would like to be able to adjust the multi-value property of a parameter based on the value of another parameter in my report. The controlling paramter would be binary with two options for Single or Multiple selection. I would like my parameter to default to multi-value, which I can do on the screen selection. I have tried to add an IIF statement to the XML code, with no success. Any ideas would be helpful.
At the top of my report, if I want to display the selected value for a given parameter, I can put this expression in a text box:
="The xyz param's value is: " & Parameters!paramXYZ.Label(0).ToString
How do I go about displaying all the selected values for a multi-value parameter (one that has mulitple checkboxes in the drop-down list)? Is it possible to do a for loop and iterate through the values of the param within an expression? Something like
for i = 0 to Parameters!paramXYZ.Count - 1 mystring = mystring & ", " & Parameters!paramXYZ.Label(i).ToString
And then display mystring in the textbox? Or can I use a list control on the report?
New user here. I've got a report with a couple of multi-value parameters and I'm displaying the selected values on the report using = Join(Parameters!ReportingGroup.Value, ", "). This works properly.
The users now want the report to display "All" if "Select All" is chosen, rather than showing the whole list.
Can anybody help me with this? I'm thinking of using an IIF statement in my expression, but have no idea how to define the condition?
I want to set the default value of the parameter based on the query result, when the current_status parameter is set as "opened" I want a certain date value to be displayed in the next parameter (start date), if it is set as closed I want a different date value to be displayed in the next parameter (start date), so I created the dataset with the query given below and assigned the default value to the query fields start and end date, however my Report parameters are not changing as expected.
dataset query:
IF @current_status = 'Opened' SELECT DISTINCT cast(DATEADD(yy, DATEDIFF(yy, 0, getdate()), 0) AS date) AS Start_Date1, cast(MAX(estcompletion_date) AS DATE) AS End_date FROM <Table Name> ELSE IF @current_status = 'Closed' SELECT distinct cast(DATEADD(yy, DATEDIFF(yy, 0, getdate()), 0) AS date) AS Start_Date1, cast(getdate() AS DATE) AS End_date FROM <Table Name>
I have this semi-complex query that is selecting items from numerous tables residing on 2 different databases. So far the query works perfectly. Here is the problem: The user is given the option of selecting items based on whether a course is Completed (C) Incomplete (I) Passed (P) Failed (F) or (ALL). I am not really sure how to do the select all, the others I can do depending on the value...
Any thoughts??
Query:
sql Code:
Original - sql Code
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Sel_CourseActivityPerUser] ( @status varchar(25), @course varchar(100), @datesmalldatetime ) AS
I'm new to developing reports using 2005 SQL Reporting Services. Is it possible to develop reports based on more than one database, (generally MS SQL)? I need to set up a dataset that includes tables from several different databases linked together so that information can be viewed together in one report. thanks
1) How can i create RSBuild.config file to deploy reports which are created out of Analysis Services cube? What should be the datasource tags for SSAS extension. I've tried with OLEDB-MD and it doesnt work.
2) Few reports has two datasources. How can i mark multiple datasources in the config file for one report?
3) The folder names are created in lower case font by default. Is this a known behaviour of RsBuild or we can do some work around to get this done. For instance, folder name "Employee Reports" is coming as "employeereports"
This is bit urgent, your respose would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
Hey guys, I need a little help for my group project(Using ASP.NET 2 connected to SQL Server 2005). Here's the scenario:
Our system is basically a sort of login/logout system, so we have a table that has (Name, Date, Subject, TimeIn, TimeOut).
1. User registers on website, so information like e-mail is recorded into the database (and the user in the website is "linked/checked" to his data in the SQL Server for verification). 2. Users can choose to subscribe to a weekly report e-mail(maybe using a simple "IsSubscribed" boolean value in the database). 3. Every week, our system scans the database for those users who subscribed, then send different e-mail reports depending on the particular user (a compiled weekly report for Mon-Fri).
Is there such a feature in Database Mail? If not, how do I execute these types queries and just set them as a Scheduled Task?
Hi,We have XML files (and its XSD) that are dump of our tree-like datastructure in memory. These XML files may potentially have unlimitedlevels of nesting because some elements can contain themselves(recursively defined). We want to build some reports using some third party reporting tool(Crystal Report, for example). The first question is - is there any way for Crystal Reports toprocess such complicated (some elements have recursive definitions)XML file directly? If not, anyone knows any other reporting tool thatcan do that job?The second question is - if we have to develop a small applicationthat converts the XML to dataset, anyone who has done similar thingbefore can give us some recommendations as to which approach is theeasiest to take (Java, .NET, etc.)? I'd appreciate it if someone canpoint me to some resources to get me started.Another approach is to convert the hierarchical XML into relationaltable set and store the data into relational database. In that case, the reporting tool can simply read from the database. I'd appreciateit if someone can let me know if there is any softeware/program thatcan do the conversion. (I heard that some database server can do theconversion from XML to relational tables, but didn't find anythingconcrete.)Any comment/recommendation is appreciated!Thank you for your help in advance!!
I would like to know if is possible to create dynamic reports based on cubes. What i mean is,after creating a cube with a couple of dimensions and measure if is there any way to give the normal users on the report manager or report builder the freedom to choose their own dimensions/measure so they can output the report with the choosen criteria.
I have a reporting scenario, where the reports are fetched from Analysis Services. The reports should display data only spcecific to that user. All users except those in admin roles should be validated using the Windows Authentication ID and data specific to them has to be displayed.
Any pointers/suggestions on how to implement this in Reporting services/ Analysis Services 2005 would be highly appreciated
I'm a beginner to Report Services, and have tons of questions.
Here's the first one:
if the reports are created based on the condition that the user selects, how can I create the reports with Report Services?
For example,
the user can select the fields that will be shown on the reports, as well as the group fields, the sort fields and restrict fields. So I would not be able to pre-create all possible reports and deploy them to the report server, and I think I should create the reports dynamicly based on what the user select.
Could someone tell me how to do it (create and deploy the reports)?
Hi everyone, I am working with SSRS 2000, and I have 2 reports that are linked with a hyperlink. Well, one is the report with all the data (numbers, months, etc) and the second one is a Chart with all the information. Well, both have a parameter, that prompts the part #. I want to know, how can I get both reports to run with one parameter only. For example, the first report with the data, fill in the parameter (part#), and when click on the hyperlink to have the Chart (second report) automatically fill in the part # that was typed in the first report so it can display the information. I know excell does it, but how can I do this with SSRS?
I have some sensitive and non-sensitive info/fields in one of my reports. Is there a way to hide/show the info based on the logged in user? or do I have to create separte reports for each type of info like one for sensitive and another one for non-sensitive info.
I have one requirement. We have one application in banking and they have developer that application using c# and .Net code so For Business Users--when they enter their details and when they want to check Reports--it should take to a another UI or web page where Users will see all the reports--- and clicking the report he/she should be get able to export it into different formats..
i know that we can give report manager URL--but due to various issues-- we have choosen to built a web[age where they can see the reports work-flow:
so--user opens bank site--enters his details-goes into reports--it should open new webpage or UI, he should see all reports--he should export these reports..
After that based upon security levels each user can see their individual reports.
I am fairly new to SQL 2005 and Reporting Services.
We are trying to create a report that will display sales data based on group membership from Active Directory.
For example, if USER1 logs in and looks at a Year to Date Sales report, it will only show data that pertains to his group. If USER2 logs in and accesses the same report, it will display different Year to Date information because he is in a different group.
Background Information: We are running SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 with Analysis and Reporting Services. We are delivering the reports through a Sharepoint site.
Please let me know if anyone has a good way to tackle this.
