Distributing Subscriber Database On Multiple Machine - Install
Dec 9, 2005Hi,
View 4 RepliesHi,
View 4 Replieshi i am new to mssql db stuff. I just developed my first VB.NET application and it uses a mssql database which is hosted locally on my development machine. I built the deployment msi file for my application which can be installed easily on client machine, but have no idea how to move the mssql db with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a central server (CS1) with database CDB and a branch server (BR1)
Inside the branch server, there are two database DB1 and DB2.
CDB contains data for DB1 and DB2
I made a subscription in the brancserver named BR1:DB1(this will replicate the data from CDB to DB1)
I also made a subscription for DB2 named BR1:DB2(this will replicate the data from CDB to DB2)
Unfortunately, upon starting the synchronization for BR1:DB1, the data replicated into DB1 also contains data for DB2. same happens with the BR1:DB2..
How do I filter the data that will be replicate per database..Example:only data for DB1 coming from CDB should be replicated into DB1 if that specific subscription(BR1:DB1) is synchronized.
Thank you
Hello, I want to install only reporting services on one server, I already did, but i want RS databases to reside on another server.
I already gave me administrator permission on the other machie, and in the reporting services configuration i entered the server and clicked FIND and it Found the instance, but when I click connect, I got this error.

Hi,
Server A houses the Production DB which services an OLTP system. Transactional replication is configured on this server which has two subscribers - on two separate servers (servers B and C). The Distribution database currently resides on Server A (which is also the Publisher).
Server B is on the same LAN as Server A (on the same rack). I'm considering moving the Distribution database from Server A to Server B to offload some of the processing overhead from Server A.
Are there any gotchas/performance problems associated with having the Distribution database (remote distributor) and the Subscriber on the same server (server B) in a transaction replication topology?
Please advise or point me to the appropriate documentation - I haven't found anything that addresses this specific question...thanks in advance,
Smitha
Sorry if this something beaten to death already...
What is/should be required for a target client machine to use and connect to a local copy of a SqlExpress database? Can't seem to get a db connection established to a different machine through a VB6 app. Installed the sql native client on the machine, but still can't connect. What am I missing, or do I have to distribute/install the entire SqlExpress client? Working fine from my development machine.

Good Day!
I want to know how to distribute a database in SQL Server from one computer to another?

Hi,
I am new to SQL Server. I want to email my database and the diagram to a friend of mine so he can review my work.
I noticed that the sql server databases that I have downloaded had an extension of .msi. I don't know if I need to do something to make my database have the .msi extension before I can email it to my friend.
I have been able to copy and paste both the database and the log file to a folder on the desktop. I can't seem to open these though. I have right and left clicked on the
the databse file that is on my desktop. When I do both of these it prompts me to select a program to open it with. This is where I have problems. I go to the programs folder and then to the sql server folder hoping to be able to open it. I haven't been able to find anything to open it with. I have looked at every file in the folders but none seem to be appropriate.
I am using sql server 2005 express edition. Is this a limitation of the database that are made with this free edition?
thanks,
Krist
Why shrinkfile empty file does not redistribute data evenly in the primary file group with multiple files:
Please run the script attached to see what the end result is.
This is what I set up last night on my test machine.
1) Create database [FGTest] size 200MB
2) Create table called TEST on primary
3) Insert 40MB of data into test
4) Create another file group called temp in primary size 200MB
5) Shrinkfile('FGTest',emptyfile) so that all data is transfered from FGTest into temp file group.
6) Add another 2 files called DATA2 and DATA3. Both are 200MB.
7) We now have 3 empty files that I want data distributed evenly on. FGTest, DATA2 & DATA3
8) Shrinkfile('temp',emptyfile) to move all the data from temp over the 3 file groups evenly
I would expect at this stage to have the following:
FGTest = 13MB,
DATA2 = 13MB,
DATA3 = 13MB
(40MB of data over 3 files should be about 13 MBish in each file)
What I actually end up with is this:
FGTest = 20MB
DATA1 = 10MB
DATA2 = 10MB
It looks as though SQL Server is allocating 50% of all data to the original file and then 50% evenly over
the remaining files in PRIMARY.

In my situation I have multiple transactional publishers replicating to a single subscriber in SQL2005. When making table changes (like adding a column) I want to be able to add the column to one publisher, let it replicate and then add the column to the remaining publishers and have it not replicate (because it would error trying to add a column that already exists on the subscriber). So I thought I could set the first publisher to "Replicate Schema Changes = True" and the remaining to False. Then add the column to each publisher and then insert new rows in each publisher table. It works for the first publisher, but the remaining publishers fail with "stored procedure sp_MSins_dboMYTABLE expects parameter @c3 which was not supplied". The remaining publishers don't seem to recognize the new column to pass the value the subscriber sproc.
I feel I'm missing something basic here. Is there a way to fix this? Or a better way altogether?
Thanks!

Hi
I am developing a Report Project ,that contains some reports
using VS.Net ,My task is to install these reports on client Machine.
Is there any option to add a "Set Up Project" to the Report Project solution, so that client may run this setup project(.exe) to install the reports in his server.
My Main requirement is , client can install these reports into his machine by executing a set up file.
Is this possible?, Please suggest me a good solution
I've read that SQL Express will only use one CPU, can you install on a machine with 4 CPU's and have it only use one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to install the components I need to develop a SSIS custom component. Is there an SDK or install option for just the visual studio components?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I attempted to install SQL Reporting Services on a box that only has the OLE DB driver for Analysis Services and the MSXML components; both of which are SP2.
When running the SQL Server 2005 install to install SSRS, I get an error:
"SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
This box has barely anything on it aside from ProClarity Analytics Server and the components I mentioned above. My only guess is that the SQL 2005 installer sees some newer components that are SP2 and it thinks they are beta? I know for sure I do not have any beta software on this machine.
Any ideas?

Hi all,
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy coworker tried install SQL server 2005 on a server. The server already has a desktop engine running as "MSSQLServer". Because the new sql server 2005 need running as a default instance. So he still using "MSSQLServer" as the instance name.
After installation, the service's running file seems still point to the old location. When view the properties on Management studio, it still report as "desk top engine" and the version is 8.xx..xxxx.
My question is,
1. What has been done during the installation? Is current desktop engine was upgraded?
2. In current situation, what can we do to install the SQL server 2005 as a default instance. Is there way to rename the desktop engine to a named instance?

We need to replicate multiple databases (publications) to one central subscriber. The schema of those articles are identical in all publications and also the primary keys in publications do not have any overlap.
Is this possible?If yes is there any specific thing that I should consider for it's implementation? Should each publication has it's own dedicated distributor or all of them can share one distributor?
I have done a full Sql Server install on a server and the SSIS service is not available. Normally when I load Sql Server I get €œSQL Server Integration Services" as a service that I can start. On this machine it is not listed after the install. I don't get any errors through out the install.

Hello,
I am kind of new with .Net development and really new with using SqlExpress. Here is my question, I hope it is easy:
I have a shareware program that I have been selling since 2000 and it was written in VB6 using a third party database program. What I would like to do is rewrite this application using C# and SqlServer Express. The program as it stands right now is about 5mb to download and install.
My concerns:
1) How do I embed and quietly install sqlserver express to the end user's computer without them having any intervention?
2) By using sqlserver express as my database how much extra overhead is going to be included in the install package? I want to keep the install package as small as possible and the user experience of installing the program as painless as possible.
Thanks in advance,
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

We have multiple development environments on one machine for our VisualStudio .net projects.These are web applications so we have organized them by IP Address andHost Headers.When I installed Reporting Services, it installed into my default website (localhost) and that is fine.However, we want to be able to create our reports in our different .netprojects. It looks like an attempt is being made to restore

the RESTORE statement has a KEEP_REPLICATION options which implies (I would have

Hello:
I am running an application on mssql 6.5, sp4.
We are working on using a database as a publisher and a remote database as a subscriber for one replication in Canada.
WE havw just been told that another application on a different server(publisher/ distribution) wants to replication to our database as a subscriber.
We also will need(as a publisher/distribution) to replication to a second subscriber database after we completely test the first replication to Canada.
Therefore my questions are:
1) Can a database on a local database -- our database -- on one server be a publisher and subscriber to ther different databases?
2)has any one been involved with replication on a database used both as a publisher and subscriber to different replications requirements?
What are the pitfalls aside from the scheduling conflicts?
3) In terms of database space requirements, how much disk space extra do we need? What guidelines should we use? For each table as an article, assuming we are doing the full table, do we add 100% more space or what?
4) Any other pitfalls we should be aware of?
Thanks.
