im really new to SQL stuff, this is my first time seeing this and my problem is its either i can't find it or i dont have it, microsoft.com has the solution but i can't fix it w/out SQL
i started getting this error from a website in which i started visiting alot, i dont know what caused this but all i did was browse:

When I test the DSN it's susccessfull, But when I connect throught the Application I receive: " error is -2147217871///[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired ///Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers".
I am using the correct login name & password as well as the the DSN that I have tested that said it was successfull. I'm using 7.00.842 and my driver version is 3.70.06.23.
trying to install sql server2005 on a windows 2003 server box.
getting msg below at the sql server . i looked at other posts on trying to uninstall SQL Native Access Client and norton antivirus. i could never find the snac on the add - remove programs and this server does not have a virus protection program yet.
here's the history of the installs on the server:
wanted to test a 2005 upgrade so:
1) installed sql server 2000 then sp4 then restored some databases to it - all OK
2) tried to upgrade to sql 2005 but ran into problems and left it at that.
had a disk drive crash on the d drive so lost the installs but not the operating system
when the drive was replaced, left alone for a while
then wanted to test a straight 2005 install
1) removed the broken 2005 attempt
2) removed the 2000
3) installed 2005 and got the error on the subject line:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
i've gone through as many of the forums that i can and have tried several things - like uninstalling 2005 and installing pieces and parts but but nothing seems to work.
i am attempting to run phpbb using ms sql 2005 on the same box but get the following error during the setup
Could not connect to the database, see error message below. [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
i am not sure yet if this is an issue with sql, php or phpbb
php is installed in iis and has all the modules installed which the php msi installer supported. i can run php code but in this case when i'm running the install.php file for the phphbb setup, i fill in the values for the database and got that error
phpbb detects all the required server settings and sees that i have ms sql installed
any suggestions on what that error means or how to go about configuring odbc driver?
probably a simple issue. but i'm still new with sql stuff
I installed SQL7 on my windows 95 desktop for testing. When I try to open the tables for the Northwind database, I get the message box "ado could not find the specified driver". No records are displayed.
I have just restored a database which is quared thru a program written in visual basic. I need to set up the ODBC data source on the workstations and keep getting the error Sql server Error:4064 can not open user default database. Any ideas? also when you restore a database do the users & permissions come with the restore?
hi, i am using sqljdbc.jar in a java applet and i am using Netbeans for development. i am able to connect with the SQL Server from the IDE. however, when i try to debug the SQL part of the code, i am getting an exception at :

i am currently using java web start to debug the application. earlier, the application was running smoothly during debug (when not being run through java web start), but was failing to run when started externally say within a html file as an applet. however, when i used java web start, the exception is being pointed to the line in bold. i have added sqljdbc.jar to the list of libraries and have added it under the compile as well as the run time configuration. i would appreciate if this exception could be resolved. if i have to configure anything in the classpath, pls suggest how i can configure it under netbeans.
A developer installed a FoxPro application on my workstation and every time I connect to SQL Server 7 I get the following message:
The ODBC resource DLL(C:WINNTSystem32odbcint.dll) is a different version than the ODBC driver manager (C:WINNTSystem32odbc32.dll). You need to reinstall the ODBC components to ensure proper operation.
I can still connect to the database and everything seems to work but I want to correct this problem. Could anyone tell me how to reinstall the ODBC components? I tried reinstalling SQL Server 7 on my workstation but it tells me that I have not selected any components, even though everything is selected. Do I need to uninstall SQL Server and then reinstall it?
I have a problem with ODBC Driver for SQL Server 6.5. The user always receive the following message in client machine when try to access the application : "08S01 : [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure".
Hi, When Iam browsing my website, It showing an error:
Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E37) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'tbl_Users'. (this is the table name)
I am experiencing the following error in a server 2003 and SQL 2005 environment. I don't know much about SQL, and any help would be appreciated. I have been told to look at the ODBC, as well as several items in SQL. But alas I have not been able to do much with it. Software program was purchased and support for the system is extremely limited.
Here is the error:

but when i use sql server 2000 driver jdbc ("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver"), It works fine but i need to use type 4 driver please help me to fix this issue.
Current (working) Environment within same domain: Quote: MS SQL (v8 sp3?) on windows 2000 sp3 web server on windows 2000 sp3
New (not working) Environment: Quote: MS SQL (v8 sp3?) on windows 2000 sp3 web server on windows 2003 sp3
when i try to connect to the remote sql db (the asp page code has remained unchanged), i get this error: Quote: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
/Default.asp, line 567 line 567 is the attempt to open the connection (again, no code changes).
The ODBC reg tree has the IUSR internet guest account permissions.
When I try to create a system DSN via the ODBC manager on the current, working system, I can see a list of the SQL boxes on the network. When I try the same on the new 2003 server...our SQL server list isn't displayed.
Any ideas on why I'm getting this error in the asp page? {UPDATE} Creating a system DSN on the new 2003 server works, if the "Named Pipes" network libraries are choosen in the set up. If the TCP/IP network libraries are choosen...the connection fails. Named pipes uses port(s) 445 & 139. The TCP/IP libraries use port 1433.
Why would Named pipes work and not TCP/IP?
Thanks.
P.S. I posted this in the O/S forum, but it looks like no one browsing that forum can help on this, so it was suggested I post in the DB forum. http://forums.devshed.com/showthrea...061#post1086061
Very common error but wired scenario. Every client machine get this error in morning. VB application works fine until evening but when everyone goes home after shut down the machine and they come back again in morning and try to run the application they get this error. Application runs fine, It can access data, pull data, view data but It can not write any data. (Other words can not enter any data).
Application again starts working fine after I copy database on different SQL server. For temporary solution I swap database from one SQL Server to other one day and back to original SQL server next day. Every morning it takes about 2 hours to copy database. I’m doing this from last few days as working solution. FYI, I have 2 different VB application, each has their own database. One working fine and other started giving me problem, the one I described above.
Few thing I want to let you know:
Recently I changed the SQL server. After I changed I started having this problem. But other application working fine. So I don’t think that could be a problem. (Both application basically same in terms of development and tools they use. VB and SQL Server, ODBC connection, Crystal Reports).
In old SQL server both database had daily backup on third party backup built on different server using Client Network Backup. After I changed the SQL server I never modify backup setting. So after I moved SQL server , every night backup was trying to connect to old SQL server and but It couldn’t take the backup cause I changed the machine. Again if that’s the problem both application should not work but one working fine other is giving me problem.
One more thing I want to mention here is I started having this problem when I left the SQL server copying database overnight. Means, I started copying database and I left the machine ON when I came in the morning copying database was done and I just click on the OK and close the window. Basically It has finished copying database in around 2 hours after I started and I close the window when I came back next morning.
That’s the few things I’m thinking about but I don’t know what kind of database setting this might have changed and how to reset again. Any help will appreciated.
Dose any one know how to combine .mdf (Primary data file) and .ndf (secondary data file) ???
I am getting the below error when I try to access the table in 2005 database through 3rd party application from the application server.
“[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Connection is busy with results for another hstmt
This database was restored from sqlserver 2000, so the ODBC connection in the application server first was pointing to 2000 database and now its dropped and recreated to point to the 2005 database.
I dont get this error message when I do the same action from my pc.
I google'd on this error message, and I am not sure if the driver has to be upgraded or if there is anything else that I am missing here.

im stuck and despirately need help. my jdbc driver for mssql server 2000 (dont laugh).
here's the code:
Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"); Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoftqlserver://user:1433");
and here's the exception it throws at me:

i know this is a very common question for a thread, but u gotta pls answer me.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? My JDBC is erroring. I'm using the Microsoft 1.2 driver, I have a SQL Server 2005 back end with the following clients connecting to it:
ASP.NET 2.0 web application Visual Studio C# console applications (*2) Java command line client.
Everything runs hunky-dory on my dev. environment (laptop, local, launched via Visual Studio) but now it's on the server, the Java client is erroring.
When I use the 1.2 sqljdbc.jar file, I get:
25-Jan-2008 12:20:29 com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection Prelogin WARNING: ConnectionID:1 TransactionID:0x0000000000000000 Prelogin response packet not marked as a REPLY
My Error Trap: -------------- SQL STATE : 08S01 ERROR CODE: 0 MESSAGE : The TDS protocol stream is not valid.
When I use the 1.1 file I get:
My Error Trap: -------------- SQL STATE : 08S01 ERROR CODE: 0 MESSAGE : The TDS prelogin response is incomplete. The target server must be SQL Server 2000 or later.
I don't know what these errors mean. I've tried compiling as java 1.5 and 1.6 with the same results. It works fine on my laptop (Vista Home Premium) but won't when I try and connect to the server. I've searched the web on the error messages and can't find an answer yet.
Any help appreciated.
My drivers are the Windows versions. Also, everything else is working okay on the server: The consoles are up and running and the web browser connects and SELECTs, UPDATEs & INSERTs okay. I ought to mention: My laptop is running SQL Server Development edition and the Server is running obviously something else.
My SQL Server version is 9.0.1399 and the OS is Windows Server 2003. SQL Authentication is mixed mode.
I'm getting a strange error in SSRS when there is no data returned from a OLEDB datasource.
Here are the steps to simulate the error
1. Create 2 shared datasources to the Adventure Database - one using ADO MD provider (Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (AdomdClient)) and another using OLEDB (OLEDB 9.0 for Analysis Services)
2. Create a new report and create a dataset with the ADO-MD provider and copy and paste the below query. (This query will not return any data)
SELECT NON EMPTY [Measures].[End of Day Rate] ON 0 ,NON EMPTY {[Date].[Date].&[10000]} ON 1 FROM [Adventure Works]
3. Run report. It will be blank as nothing is defined in the layout. But this shows that the query is executed in the dataset and is succesfull although the query does not return any data.
4. Create another report and create a dataset with the OLE-DB provider and copy paste the above query.
5. Run the report. It will come back with error in the lines of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". The reporting services log file will show that the query execution has failed although this is not the case when analysed from profiler.
Any ideas on how to solve this? What I'm trying to acheive is to use the NoRows property of table to display a message when there is no data. But I'm not able to pass the above hurdle when no data is returned from the dataset.
The error happens on the last line where I try to open the connection. I've tried also using a dbConn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" line, to no avail. The item that is passed to the Open command is
I'm not familiar enough with DNS and IIS to figure this out. Any suggestions -- other than porting over to SQL and .NET? You don't buy a Ferrari when you only drive in a 30 MPH town.
I created a package that extracts records from a .DBF file into an SQL Server database. I installed a Visual FoxPro plugin (vfpoledb). When I run the package from my PC, it runs smoothly. But, when I try to run the same package in another PC, it displays a DTS_E_OLEDBERROR "Class not registered" error. Anyone has an idea about what this means? thanks in advance.
The javadoc for statement.setMaxRows(maxROWS) reads:
"Sets the limit for the maximum number of rows that any ResultSet object can contain to the given number. If the limit is exceeded, the excess rows are silently dropped."
In fact, it seems that the driver calls set rowcount MAXROWS on the connection.
While this superficially will work, if your query manipulates records sets that exceed MAXROWS, the subqueries will also be limited in their size. And this is not what you expect. The javadocs suggest that it is only the result that is truncated. Silently.
It seems that setFetchSize is more appropriate.
I am using a relatively recent jar (248KB).
I hope that somebody finds this useful and that the development team will adjust the javadocs or the behavior.
while (resultSet.next()) { System.out.println(resultSet.getDate("end_date")); }
The date field is nullable, and the records in the database are currently null. But when I run this program, I get the following exception when using version 1.2 of the MS JDBC Driver:
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The conversion from int to DATE is unsupported. at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.ServerDTVImpl.getValue(Unknown Source) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.DTV.getValue(Unknown Source) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.Column.getValue(Unknown Source) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.Column.getValue(Unknown Source) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerResultSet.getDate(Unknown Source) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerResultSet.getDate(Unknown Source) at jdbc.main(jdbc.java:38) Exception in thread "main"
This started happening when we upgraded to the new driver. Any ideas why?

Receiving error "Microsoft ODBC Server Driver Timeout Expired". This is happening when running queries or stored procedures through VB6 and also in Enterprise Manager. Have set query timeout to 0 and command timeout to 0 but no joy.
Enterprise manager cannot even perform a count of records (16Million) without timeing out.
It appears that the VFPOLEDB driver tries to convert numeric types in VFP to decimal types in .NET. In this case, it's a Numeric 9,3 in VFP and it's trying to put it into a decimal 8,3 in .NET.
I know that VFP has this funny quirk where if you don't use all of the decimal places after the decimal point, it allows you to use extras in front of the decimal point. In our case, the number is 104895.83 and yes, VFP is happy storing this in a Numeric 9,3 column.
When trying to read this in .NET, you get this message:
System.InvalidOperationException
The provider could not determine the decimal value. blah, blah, blah...
The question then is - is there a work-around? I can find no way to force .NET to use greater precision. About all I can come up with is to catch the exception and return a nice error message asking the user to make the column larger in VFP.
Here's the .NET code, thanks in advance
Mike
string sqlString = "SELECT * FROM " + Path.GetFileName(dbfFullPath);
OleDbConnection oleConn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Data Source=" +
folderName + ";Collating Sequence=MACHINE;");
OleDbCommand oleCmd = new OleDbCommand(sqlString, oleConn);
We are in the process of configuring a j2ee application with SQL Server 2005. We have downloaded the new version of SQL Server 2005 Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Driver 1.0.
We are having some issues in getting it to work using the XA datasource. Description of the error is as follows:
javax.transaction.xa.XAException: java.sql.SQLException: Failed to create the XA control connection. Error: Could not find stored procedure 'master..xp_sqljdbc_xa_init'.. at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerXAResource.start(Unknown Source)
Has anyone else has encountered this and possibly found a solution.
I'm trying to configure JBoss application server to use SQLServer 2005 as database with XA transactions. I can start a new transaction, access SQLServer from within the transaction, but when committing, there is the following XAException from SQLServer: 16:04:20,926 INFO [STDOUT] javax.transaction.xa.XAException: java.sql.SQLException: COMMIT: Status:0 msg:*** SQLJDBC_XA DTC_ERROR Context: xa_commit, state=1, StatusCode:-4 (0xFFFFFFFC) ***16:04:20,926 INFO [STDOUT] at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerXAResource.commit(Unknown Source)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.xa.XAManagedConnection.commit(XAManagedConnection.java:176)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.internal.jta.resources.arjunacore.XAResourceRecord.topLevelOnePhaseCommit(XAResourceRecord.java:641)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.arjuna.coordinator.BasicAction.onePhaseCommit(BasicAction.java:2619)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.arjuna.coordinator.BasicAction.End(BasicAction.java:1779) [...]
The system is running on Windows Server 2003 64bit with SQLServer 2005 64bit, and JBoss running on JDK 1.5.0 (32bit) Can anyone tell me what this message indicates?
OS: Windows XP (SP2) App: MS Access 2003 (SP2) DB: MS SQL 2000 (SP4, 2040)
User is using MS Access linked table to query database (using ODBC). User can open the query in MS Access. However when the user goes to export the data to MS Excel format, the user receives the error message:
"Unexpected Error from External Database Driver (22)."
A trace on the db, reveals that the user process is attempting to log in to the server as 'Admin'. However, when the query with the linked table is first opened, the user is prompted for username/password (non Windows authentication).
Any ideas? I googled and found some stuff, but nothing directly related and most of what I found was supposedly fixed with SP1.
Hi guys! I am using SQL 2005 and I wonder why I am encountering the error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Syntax error or access violation" everytime I am trying to create stored procedure with temp table and table variable. See my code below with temp table.
Any thoughts will be appreciated!
