Dtsconfig File Is Binary?

Feb 16, 2006

Hello all,

I'm trying to easily change a value in 80 ssis configuration files from "localhost" to "myservername". I downloaded WinGrep to do this, but it's balking on some of the files, saying that they are binary files.

Does anyone know how to make the *.dtsconfig files NOT binary in SSIS?

Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.

I won't go into the reason I have my servername in 80 places...

Andy

How Can I Do A Dtsconfig File For Connections?

Jul 9, 2007

Hi,

Up to now, we're using SSIS variables for storing values such as server name, database or several paths.

All these variables are required when our developers give to us their DTSX packages for to be updated in production scenarios.

And now, we'd like to use xml files but I don't know how to. We've already got xml files for Data Flow, Sql Task and so on..

Thanks indeed for your time,

Database Connection In Dtsconfig File

Mar 13, 2007

Hi frnds,

im running the SSIS package " data" in XXXdatabase.

now i have to run the same package in different database and in different server.

so i mentioned all the database config details in sql_server.dtsconfig file.

here i had attached my file :-

<?xml version="1.0"?><DTSConfiguration><DTSConfigurationHeading>
<DTSConfiguration>
<Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[YYY ].Properties[ConnectionString]" ValueType="String">
<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=YYY;User ID=XXX;Password=XXX;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
</DTSConfiguration>

after i attached the file in package configurations .

i was unable to see the db connection in connection managers.

i tried to attach the .dtsconfig file in (New OLEDB connection manager) but after clicking the test connection " Testconnection failed because of an error in intializing provider.The connectionString property is not intialized"

Please help me in this.

Thnkx in advance.

DTSConfig File Not Found Error

May 8, 2008

I was requested to build and move and existing SSIS package from the developers local PC to the Dev server. Both are running SQL 2K5, I built the following command file so SQL Agent can run the import job.

Why Is The DtsConfig File Not Included In Build?

Dec 27, 2007

I use an XML configuration file for my SSIS package, and I have "Enable package configurations" checked. When I build the package, however, there is no dtsConfig file in the output (set to in) or the Deployment folder, and the config file is not included in the SSISDeploymentManifest file. There are no build errors or warnings.

This was working fine the last time I worked on this package (~9 months ago), but not now. I have since installed SP2, but can't confirm if the problem is related to a "fix" in SP2.

Incorrect Warning About Missing DtsConfig File

Dec 1, 2007

I built my package on my development machine with a config file at a given location. Let's say:-

C:DevelopmentdtsConfig.xml

Then I shipped my package to the Production machine and ran my package (in a .bat file) as follows:-

DTExec /FILE "C:ProductionPackage.dtsx" /CONFIGFILE "C:ProductiondtsConfig.xml"

But I get the following output:-

Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility

Code: 0x80012012
Source: Package
Description: The configuration file name "C:DevelopmentdtsConfig.xml" is not valid. Check the configuration file name.
End Warning
...

But then it goes on to read values from my Production config file.
How can I stop the annoying warning about my Development config file-path (which doesn't exist on the Production machine)

Thanks

adoRS!Field6 = CSng(NonStdCurrRecord.Field6)
adoRS!Field7 = CSng(NonStdCurrRecord.Field7)

Unfortunately, it takes about 8 mins to import a file with 180k records. Is there a faster way to do this?

Retrive A File From A Binary Data Field

Nov 6, 2006

hello dear friends
I am trying to save a binary file to database with the following code:
public static void memorystreamToDb()
{
          MemoryStream mst = new MemoryStream();
          UnicodeEncoding u = new UnicodeEncoding();
          string Textn = "Test";
          byte[] b = u.GetBytes(Textn);
          mst.Write(b ,0,Textn.Length );
          BinaryReader reader = new BinaryReader(mst);
          byte[] file = reader.ReadBytes((int)mst.Length);
          using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("Some Connection String"))
          {
                    SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO temp (examplefile) Values(@File)", connection);
                    command.Parameters.Add("@File", SqlDbType.Binary, file.Length).Value = file;
                    connection.Open();
                    command.ExecuteNonQuery();
          }
          reader.Close();
          mst.Close();
}
or with the other method from a real file (not memory stream)
public static void Addfile(string path)
{
          CommonMethods_class k = new CommonMethods_class();
          byte[] file = GetFile(path);
          using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(k.Get_connection_string()))
          {
                    SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO temp (examplefile) Values(@File)", connection);
                    command.Parameters.Add("@File", SqlDbType.Binary, file.Length).Value = file;
                    connection.Open();
                    command.ExecuteNonQuery();
          }
}
and after running each of them seams that the file have been saved; but I can not retrive the files. I have tried some solutions from msdn but inside the created file is empty. the point that i really look for it is to just working with memory not in the disk before saving. and then retriving each field that I want.
looking forward your points
thank you in advance

Binary Column Or Flat File Best Practices?

Jul 17, 2007

I have a design oriented question for a system I am developing. Because of various business concerns and issues we have been moving towards as desing that brings files into the SQL 2005 system as binary columns in a database. These files will then be processed at a later time using SSIS into relation model tables.

Normally I would just have the process be files are placed on a FTP location (or other drive path) and a location is stored in the database versus the storing of them as binary rows in the database. Then later the SSIS package runs using the path information for the conneciton manager.

Based on the proposed binary design I have two questions.

1. Can anyone speak to the advantages, disadvantages, issues they have had, etc to the binary storage method?

2. Can anyone make a suggestion on how they would handle the pulling of the file out of SQL when the file is ready to process? Do you stream it to a file and rebuild it on the physical disk, to then just import it with a connection manager for the flat file structure.... or can you stream it directly into a conneciton manager that reads it like a flat file and parses the file without ever going to disk? Any information on suggested implementations would be helpful.

Thanks.

Writing Binary Data To Database Only To Refrence A File Location?

Sep 29, 2006

Hey everyone I've got this question that has me stuck for the last few days but its an important part of my website.....What I am trying to do is basicly have a user be able to upload a file, have that uploaded file plus some other info automaticly display on other parts of my site, and have a different user eventually be able to download that file....I have thought about allowing the file upload as a BLOB but still cannot find a proper way to execute this using VB, plus I have heard that this way of doing it is not reccommeneded cause databases were not designed to store large files like this, lots of articles recommened having the file upload to a Folder on your server then get the binary data for the file that can be placed in a database to refrence that particular file.....Well this also proves to be a lot harder then said here is what I got so far (written in C#) protected void UploadBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (FileUpLoad1.HasFile)
{

FileUpLoad1.SaveAs(@"C:Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsWebsiteFiles" + FileUpLoad1.FileName);
Label1.Text = "File Uploaded: " + FileUpLoad1.FileName;
}
else
{
Label1.Text = "No File Uploaded.";
}
}
and here is the asp part of the code that goes with it<asp:FileUpLoad id="FileUpLoad1" runat="server" />

<asp:Button id="UploadBtn" Text="Upload File" OnClick="UploadBtn_Click" runat="server" Width="105px" />

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text=""></asp:Label>
 Now from what I know is I need to get the binary of the file which I have read you can do with the Page.Request.Files statement but again not sure how I would impliment this.  Does anyone have any suggestions on which way I should take when dealing with this should I try and just use the BLOB method or use the binary refrence method? and if so how would I impliment this, heck even some good tutorials on the subject would be great... Thanks.....Adam

SQL Server 2008 :: Large Binary Dataset - Database Or File System?

Jun 2, 2015

I have a well-structured but also very large binary data-set that is generated by a C++ application every five minutes. The data needs to be accessed by SQL applications. Since data is generated every five minutes, performance is key, both for write and read. The data set is about 500MB.If data is written to the file system, the write performance doesn't involve SQL server. For reading it, I have a CLR to read the portions of the data that I need based on offset and length. That works and is very fast. The problem is that data is stored in the file system, so it is not self-contained within the database.

A second option that I haven't explored yet, is to write the data into a table as VARBINARY(MAX). I would read the data using SUBSTRING with appropriate offset and length. Performance of SQL write/read of binary data of this size, and whether there is a third option I haven't thought off. I'm using SQL Server 2014.

Reporting Services :: Open PDF File Stored As Binary Data In Database Table With A Link In SSRS Report

Nov 2, 2013

I'm working on a report to show financial transactions from a table over a certain period. For most transactions there is a PDF document that is stored in a separate table in a binairy format. In my report I would like to include a link on every line with transaction information  in the report that opens the PDF that is linked to that transaction. Just to be clear, I don't want to embed the PDF in the report but I want the users of the report to have the option to view the PDF that is related to that transaction in their standard pdf reader (adobe).

Code to do the following:

Once a user clicks on the link to view the PDF I need the code to get the binairy data of the PDF file from the table, convert it back to a PDF and open it in the default pdf reader (for example adobe reader). If it can't directly open the file then it's maybe possible to activate the 'open or download' pop up that you also get when you download something from a website.

Setting Expressions In DtsConfig

Jun 12, 2007

Hi, i'm new in this forum and in SSIS, so I apologize if mine is a stupid question and also for my english.

I have this problem: i have to develop an ETL package and i have to set the transformation between input and output columns using a configuration file, i.e. my client want to change the transformation simply modifying a config file( for example from UPPER to LOWER ).

I tried using dtsconfig and setting EvaluateAsExpression with value 1( true ) and Expression UPPER[Column 2] but i get an error saying that Column 2 is not a variable.

There is a way to do it?

I don't know if i explained the problem well.

.dtsConfig Stuck Values

Apr 28, 2008

I have an SSIS package with a small number of connections for various databases, both SQL2K5 and AS2K5.

When I build the package the .dtsConfig file is produced but the contents for some of those connections are not accurate relative to the package itself. There are some old values retained in the .dtsConfig file.

Worse, when I deploy the package to another machine the installation should allow me to change these values to ones appropriate for the new server. While I am able to change them they are not retained and the old values crop back up making the package fail during execution.

Any idea where I can smack this thing to unstick these values?

Would specifics help? I can post the file(s) if need be.

Thank you in advance,

Erik Klein
